  1. Hi everyone! Used to post here a lot when I was in my first year and doing my Sunday blog....all is well, I have been at goal for one year, very happy. Here's my question: I get a B12 shot every month...should I still be taking a B12 supplement? What size? I have been taking 1000mcg in addition to my shot; but now I'm thinking that seems like too much. Can't find the answer in my paperwork. Also, I have always taken Biotin since a couple of months after surgery....is 500 mcg what most people take? My blood work is good (except the B12 has always been off the charts because I stupidly have gotten my blood work done right after my shot). My weight is a healthy 136, I can eat anything except for rice, and I love my new life! I did have a breast lift done last May and am SO happy to have done that....with the 87 lb loss they were looking pretty droopy and sad..... I haven't done many posts on my blog, but I did post one a couple months ago about my breast reduction/lift if anyone is interested. I'll do a another post at my two year anniversary. At this point, who ever is reading this is probably all new people on here....I used to post all the time! For all those who have signed up in the last year.....congratulations; you are in for a great ride.....I wrote about my first year every Sunday at the blog below if you want to be inspired.....

    going nuts.....

Congrats, but I'm a little lost on your weight loss and the ticker (you probably have not updated your status). Here are some of my questions: 1) Have you had any recent blood work done? Vit. B and D deficiencies checked? (Both can create some muddled thinking) 2) Glad you are getting counseling especially with the eating disorder history. Are you seeing a NUT? 3) What is your exercise? I was surprised how much that affects my mental stability, and I'm wondering if I am the only one.

    Labor Day

Labor day was the 2nd event since reaching my goal. The first event was supposed to be my 50th birthday and associated party, but it turned into traveling and attending a funeral. Still both cases were a long weekend away from home that usually involved eating. In each event I gained 3 pounds, but got them back off and back to my goal weight in 3-4 days. I still weigh myself daily at home, but I've found the scales at my family's houses to show me weighing 3-6 pounds less than what I know I weigh, so its hard to monitor away from home. I think the hardest thing was getting in the same amount of water I normally drink at home and work because we were on the run. Still, I'm glad staying around goal is not been too hard.

    excess body skin anyone?

I think if you work out the excess skin shouldn't be too bad. You're young... and unless you've lost and gained a lot of weight repeatedly your skin should be okay! I am 23... I do have some excess skin on my arms.. but it's not too bad. In my mind I'm losing quicker than I can tone. So I'm going to work on it for awhile to see how it responds ! Good luck getting approval! For me the first two days were THE worst. Then each day I got better. I didn't have any incision pain. I thought I had 4 incisions until one day my belly button itched and I discovered one more in there LOL! I had about two weeks to recover.... and, like I said after the first two days I was moving around more.... going out, etc!

    Waking Up Choking

In the past few months, about once a month I wake up chocking and gasping for air. I am under a great deal of stress due to my mom having a stroke and work stuff. I have never experianced this before -- from what I have checked on the web it points to sleep apnea, however I have no issues with sleep. Also went to the doctor about this when it first happened and I did poorly on the respiratory test and she prescribed me an inhaler - but I discontinued because I didn't find it helpful. I know my weight may be a factor -- I have my last 3 month insurance required nutrition meeting this week - finally. Its really scary to wake up gasping for air and choking like that and was curious if anyone else ever had this? Thanks

Tired Of Feeling Like A Patient

Just hang in there. You will look back on this time and realize how short it was in the scheme of things. Think about how much time it took from when you started thinking about having the weight loss surgery until the time it took for you to have the surgery. I don't know if you had a lot of insurance hoops or not, but chances are it took a lot longer than a month's time. Soon enough you will be on "normal" foods and yes eating out at this stage is pretty difficult. I would try to avoid that until you are cleared to eat solid foods.

    Starting to look into WLS

I had my thyroid removed about 4 years ago and I currently take 225 mcg of meds daily. I can't tell you right now how the surgery will affect this yet, having surgery next week, but I'm guessing that the med dose could go down with the weight loss, I'll let you know. None of the doctors I have seen including my PC dr or surgeon have said anything.

    Aunt Flo came back

So weird! I had an ablation done 6 months before my surgery and hadn't had regular periods in years. I guess because of my weight and diabetes. I am 2 1/2 months out and blam.... My period came back. Anyone else have this happen? I actually thought it was menopause for me do this shocked me.

Did they forget to put in the BAND

I can sooo relate to this post. i actually said the same thing. ("Is it even in there? I feel NO different!!") I had surgery on October 21 of last year and didn't get my first fill until January 12 of the following year due to hospital and doc vacation schedules/holidays, so I lived in Bandster Hell for a LONG time. I just tried to keep my portions smaller, make better choices and at night, when I seemed to be the hungriest, i would work out and force myself to go to bed to avoid the temptation. This is the worst time of year not to have restriction either, so my heart goes out to you. Just know that right now is a time for your body to heal, so don't focus on any weight loss or gain (yeah right! SHE says LOL--easier said than done, I know). Just know that you have the tool, it's just not working as it should be just yet, but it will. It definitely will, so try to hang in there!!! Stock up on fruits, yogurt, veggies and lots of lowfat cheese sticks--it will be ok!!!

    Pictures for the first time

Yep I see it too! What have you been doing to lose your weight?
  11. Hi everyone, This might be one of those posts that drives people crazy, but... here goes. I am 14-months out from my surgery (January 23, 2012, represent!). I haven't lost weight since before Christmas, except for that bout of the stomach flu I had at New Year. I go to a therapist monthly, I keep up my appointments with my dietician, I take my Vitamins (about 90%, which I figure is pretty good!), I exercise (but not as much as I used to).... but I graze. I'm not looking for a pat on the head and a glass of Water to send me on my way telling me everything will be ok - I know it won't if I don't get my **** together! Part of the problem is that the weight I am right now... is the weight at which I have spent the majority of my adult life. I am comfortable here. I expected to be stalled here... and so, I am. I let things go for a while, telling myself, hey, a little break is ok. A little break is now three months of no movement, and that is NOT OKAY! I suppose I could point fingers and blame and excuses at all kinds of different things, but why bother? It's all me in the end! It was up to me to make this decision, and now it's up to me to carry through with it. What have some of you done when you've floundered for motivation? Mantras, exercises, kicks in the pants... share with me your best!

Congrats on your weight loss! You look amazing and I bet you feel even better. Thank you for sharing as that gives me such inspiration. I hope to be where you are at that point! Great job!

    Waffling, Waffling, Waffling

I keep asking myself if I REALLY need the surgery, too. My stats are similar as I am 5'3 and about 5 pounds more than you now. I am also 41 and have NO co-morbidities. Like everyone here, I have tried everything. I lost 88 pounds on WWs in 7 months one go around but was highly discouraged because I couldn't become a lifetime member as they felt I needed to lose 30 more. I was already a size 8/10 and that would have put me in a 2/4 and for my frame, I would have looked ridiculous. As I have on all my diets, I gained all my weight back plus a couple dozen of it's friends. I started my pre-op diet 11 days ago and have lost 13.4 pounds so I know what to do. I am physically active. I have no back pain. I have no joint pain. I have no reflux or high ANYTHING other than my hair. I am on no meds. I know I can lose it on my own, but I also know that I can gain it all back without a backwards glance. I need to do this before I get older and before my physical health starts to suffer. I know how bad it is for my heart to yo-yo diet and that's what I've been doing for the last 20 years. I want to be a healthy role model for my teenage girls. I want to continue being physically active and keep up with my kids. I don't want to be the "fat mom" anymore, nor do I want to lose weight with the thought in the back of my mind that everyone's thinking "here she goes again, wonder how long it will last THIS time". I am DONE doing it the non-surgical way because it is not long term for me. I am so excited about the 16th of May, I can hardly stand it. WOOOOOOOOT!
  14. @@reachbree hang in there! It will get better but major thing we are going through, healing is a longer process but sometimes hard to realize when you are walking around and struggling through diet changes. We are around same timeline. The scale can bring you up and then make you feel like "I will be the one living on 900 calories a day that never loses weight!" I am fighting my urge to stay off my scale until next week. Join me!
  15. Not for me! It was real, didn't lose for about 3 weeks, actually gained a little. But it passed!
  16. Glad I found this topic. I am on week three now and for the last few days haven't lost a darn thing. Was starting to worry but I guess it is so ! Time to move around a bit more and kick start my body back into losing weight !!

    pre-surgery nerves 4 days out

Im in the exact same boat! My surgery is on the 4th and i'm not on day 5 of the liquid diet....i have literally had to talk myself out of eating every night....i'm 7.5 lbs down since starting the liquid diet though so that helps to motivate me. I actually started my liquid diet on December 7th, because I and my patient navigator were hopeful that my insurance would approve before end of the year, and there was a chance that my surgery would be either the week of Christmas or the week after. As it turns out, it ended up being scheduled for the 28th. I have been on liquids for an extra week, which has not been easy at all! The first few days were awful, with headaches, and wanting food. It has become easier, but I still have my moments. I am down 19 pounds from my start weight. My surgeon said last Wednesday, that my extra week will be beneficial to him, making it even easier to get to the stomach, and he told me he was proud of my determination, and said I have a good head start on my weight loss. Best of luck to you on your weight loss journey, and prayers for you on the 4th! My nerves have been overbearing the past few nights, worrying about my surgery on Monday. I hope everyone who has commented on my thread, will stay in touch, and let me know how your surgeries went!

    Weight Watchers??

I once belonged to weight watchers and left only because I was the only guy and got tired of watching Oprah videos But I think it's good to lean on WW as a nutrition tool. It's a great reminder that we sometimes don't eat as healthy as we should. I know each visit with my nut is about $50 so WW is a bargain. Just keep in mind that for the tool to work properly we should eat our Protein first. And I know back when I used to go to WW, processed foods weren't crossed off the list as much as they are now. Processed flour, sugar & meats should be avoided in favor of fresh fruit, veggies and meats. imo tmf

    1 month post op

that sounds amazing. I am assuming you have a lot of weight to lose in order for it to be coming off so fast.
  21. Hey Matt, wishing you the best of luck. Use your surgery as the tool it is and I am confident you will succeed with your new weight loss surgery. Those of us that have struggled with our weight certainly know disappointment when we yo yo with our weight, but this is your key to success. My surgery is in 4 weeks and I am beyond excited. Good luck my friend
  22. Hey Matt! I'm a 26 year old singer/visual artist from Nashville, TN. I have spent my entire life being overweight (except for a small period in high school when I was anorexic). I have never had a healthy relationship with food. In high school, I lost 70 lbs and was absolutely terrified of food. Now, it is my best friend. I wake up in the morning thinking about it. When I'm bored, I get on yelp and find local restaurants to try out. Food has been my comforter for so long...it doesn't care what I look like or how much I weigh and it is always there. But it has destroyed my life - I love to travel, but can no longer fit in an airline seat. My body aches every night when I go to bed. I used to run five miles a day and now I get out of breath climbing a flight of stairs. I would love to have children with my husband sometime soon, but my weight does not allow for that. Obesity has stolen so much from me....so I'm not waiting any longer. My surgery is this Thursday and I am so nervous. There is no going back. I am so excited but also, a part of me is sad. Because I AM addicted to food, and the way I view food is going to change forever. And that's scary to me. But spending the rest of my years like this is even more scary. I totally understand where you are coming from. I'm so afraid that I won't be able to do this. That my mind is going to ruin everything. That I won't be able to lose the weight, even after surgery. So many fears! But this is necessary for survival, and happiness. For both of us, it seems! Be brave! And I will, too ???? Best wishes and good luck! -Kati

    Slow weightloss

what's your BMI? The closer it is to normal, the slower the weight loss.
  24. Wren...on the boobies issues. Give it time once you get to goal. I'll be 55 in two weeks and after losing all the weight they looked like tube socks with tennis balls in the toes. I made sure that every waking hour I wore a good stable bra. Two years later they are sitting up nice a pretty. Never thought it would happen but I attribute it to a good underwire and 3lb weight exercises each day. And, on the skinny thing. (Not offended, thank you). I am actually at a pretty good weight for me. I am very smalled boned and weigh about what I did 31 yrs ago today on our wedding day. After getting to goal and upping my calories, my body just got back to it always used to be. I had such a sucky metabolism during menopause and now it's freakishly the other way. I'll take it though.

    Weight Watchers??

You know, I often ponder joining a group and - get this - I still feel like I'd be a "cheater". I won't even join in the company weight loss contest because I feel like I have an advantage. I am judging myself before anyone even gets a chance to...I don't get it.
