Weight gain at 9 weeks out! HELP!
kayse replied to Llamalover17's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm going to say not getting enough Water in. I'm at 4 weeks out today and my appt yesterday registered at an 8 pounds weight gain. There is no way partial way I could do that. I really dropped in my water intake so I'm hoping my numbers go down real soon. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App -
Trying to talk someone out of WLS?
mezanne1401 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My niece and I spent the day together yesterday. We had such a great time together!! She is 21, 5'7", 230 lbs although she looks bigger than that to me, but I'm certainly not one to judge. She was so excited for me when I had my surgery! Yesterday I took her to Long John Silvers, one of her favorites. I got the popcorn shrimp and she got a huge platter. I ate three pieces of shrimp and was full and I sat there while she finished her platter. She said after I finished that she wished she could get the surgery so she could eat as much as I do now. I told her that the surgery should be her last resort, but I feel like such a hypocrite. It was my last resort. I know my niece. We share everything and I just don't see her changing her lifestyle enough to have the surgery. I told her about the sodas and mental aspects of it. She says she would give it all up, but I honestly don't see it. I think she is seeing this as a miracle cure and super easy. My weight loss has been amazing (down 65 pounds since Oct 31), but it hasn't been "easy"! This surgery to me has been a mind screw! I've had to battle my brain more than anything else. I know she wants a quick resolve and I don't know how to tell her that it isn't a good idea for her right now. I would support anyone wanting this, but I can't get behind her on this quite yet. I'm so aggravated at myself for not supporting her on wanting this, but I know she thinks this is the easy way out and I know we can all attest that it is not at all. The good thing though is that she has no insurance and no way at all to pay for it herself, so I am putting the horse before the cart, but I don't want her to say screw the diets, I'll just eat what I want until I can get the surgery! -

Trying to talk someone out of WLS?
mezanne1401 replied to mezanne1401's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know it sounds like I am being mean by not wanting her to do this right now, but I know her, probably better than her own parents. I do know that she is not mature enough for this journey. Good Lord, she just stopped sucking her thumb 2 years ago and still watches SpongeBob!!! That's more of an inside joke between the two of us, but she has been pampered and spoiled all of her life. Instead of working for something, she has had it handed to her on a tarnished silver platter. I'm sure you can all say that you are working on the weight loss as the sleeve "is just a tool". She thinks the weight loss will come to her easily, that she won't have to work at this. As previously mentioned, I have told her about the preop diet of Protein shakes where I lost17 pounds in 2 weeks. Then I told her about the high protein, low/no carbs, low/no salt and Water. Her response...."I hate water!" Also, the fast food, stupid idea, I know. That is a no brainer, but it happened and it's done with. I'm still working on the mental aspects of social eating. That being said and in my defense, I always pay for her when we eat and she was talking Outback, Red Lobster or Olive Garden and I didn't have time for a long sit down meal and didn't want to spend that much money. If she does have the surgery or make up her mind to have it, then I will support her 150%!!! I know how hard this has been for me. I don't want to see her miserable or sick and of course, I'm worried of the complications she may face either with the surgery or the complications from noncompliance. I love that kid like she was my own and I have always had a special place in my heart since the first time we were introduced when my husband and I were just dating 13 years ago. I can see so much of me in her even with no blood relation. I was in no way, shape or form responsible/mature enough for this. I wish I would have done it when I was 25, when my back first began to hurt and my weight skyrocketed. Thanks for all the great advice!! -
I think we all have battled hair loss since we have been banded...My hair is the longest it has been in years and it I was seeing long strands of hair everywhere, the bathroom sink, my car, the couch, the kitchen counter, in my bra..and when I would wash it it would come out it small gobs so I got it cut shorter last week 3 inches of the back and layered and I have noticed a dramatic difference in NOT shedding so much..still shedding but not as much. As a licensed hairdresser I learned in school that we lose hair everyday no matter what, lower fat diet contirubtes to hair loss, not brushing it as often results in hair loss..not eating as much protein and hormonal changes, weight loss are all factors in hair loss

Questions about post op pain
Elode replied to kimpossible67's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@kimpossible67 I've had c-sections (3) and I asked that same question and got all the "oh it's not near as bad" well I can tell you the First moments directly after waking up were worse! For about 15min..the two days in the hospital I was on morphine but still had some pain (not too bad) first 2 days at home worse! I am not a medication taking person but after day two at home I called my surgeon and told Them the pain pills were pretty much worthless...they gave me another prescription for a much stronger pain pill and I was good after that. I think a lot of my issues also came from having a JP drain and staples. Now , after a week all the pain was pretty much gone. I was lucky not to have any gas ect...so I try not to complain, for me it was not "painless"'and I don't know why I ever thought it would be?! It's surgery! Glad it's over and glad I did it???? -
just curious will I be able to eat more than 4 ounces per meal. being that I eat 3 ounces of meat which is roughly 21 grams of Protein than I have 1 ounce of low carb veggies. So how am i supposed to get above 63 grams of protein unless I eat more eventually. currently I am getting my additional protein through my Protein drinks. I am supposed to eliminate 1 scoop every 2 weeks now. so in roughly 2 months I will not be using Protein shakes anymore. So my question is does anybody eat more than 4 ounces per meal per their nutritionist? If so can you please let me know what your basic meals are. thank you.

I have attended the seminar and have had my psych eval done. Have my first visit with the nurse at Transformations in Flowood, MS next week. I go from being scared to death to excited and back to scared again. Anyone want to share how they got over the roller coaster of emotions?

Hi All! I was banded on August 7, 2009. I used to read these boards all the time, and they were immensely helpful. The past year I've been slacking big time. I've been on a bit of a weight-loss rollercoaster, mostly because I wasn't being serious about my weight loss goals and letting stress overtake me by resorting to stress eating. I just got married a month ago, and now that all that hoopla is over I'm fresh out of excuses! I've lost 162 pounds (132 with the band), and gained 13 of it back surrounding the wedding. With all the yo-yo-ing I've only lost 20 pounds in the past year...somewhat successful, but I can do so much better! Started getting back on track this week and down 4 pounds already! (I know, mostly Water weight, but it's a start). I'm hoping to keep myself accountable by getting on the boards regularly and sharing with others.

Another TMI Question
Marie from Michigan replied to Indymom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At 16 weeks post-op, I "go" about every other day. I have constipation issues which I never had prior to surgery. Sometimes I take a stool softener and have also taken Milk of Magnesia a couple of times at my Doctor's suggestion. I really focus on getting my Proteins in first which I think contributes to the problem. I find when I eat some vegetables or fruit with every meal that I have less of a problem. And, I also had "D" for the first couple of weeks until I went on mushy foods. -

Possibly A Very, Very Stupid Question!
phatdivabbw replied to lovealways's topic in Insurance & Financing
I wasn't required to do the six month because I had been seeing a nutritionist and I was able to get the proof from her office and the insurance company accepted it. Keep in contact with the insurance person at the doctors office because they are following a routine. I'm sure I annoyedd my insurance girl because I too had a date in mind that would work for me. I was on it!! I did all my pre-op consults in two weeks. She didn't believe me. I was on the doctors to turn in their reports. I was always pleasant and showered the office with please and thank yous. LOL -
Waiting on insurance approval & I've gained weight [emoji30]
kelliev2015 replied to sherie1967's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I did the same thing. I figured insurance was submitted and I did my last weigh in so was a little careless with my diet before my pre-op diet. I think it's normal to have a little bit of a "food funeral" before your diet changes forever. I didn't have any issues. I did the pre-op diet with no problems and lost all the weight I gained back. Sleeved 6 weeks ago and so far, so good! -
Any post-op RN's? How long out of work
hlr7910 replied to MaggiePappleseed's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi there! I am post banded June 23rd. I work in the ER and was of for 4 weeks. I could have come back about 3 weeks out but I took the extra week because we only have 2 nurses in my er and I didn't want to hurt myself lifting. The whole thing has gone well for me so far I have lost 25 lbs in the first 2 months. I haven't had to have a fill yet either. My next appt is on Sept 9th so I will see if I get a fill then. I think I may need a little bit but not too much. Good luck to you!! -
hair loss is fairly common. It typically starts three months after surger and is resolved within three months. There are three possible reasons, make sure you cover these areas and you should be fine. 1.) Protein deficiency. Make sure you are getting 60 grams of high quality protein per day 2.) Vitamin B/Biotin Deficiency. Due to the pre-op and post-op diets and the lower volume of food you could experience vitamin deficiencies. You are probably taking a daily muliple, if not start. You may also want to add a Hair, Skin and Nails formula (easy to find in most stores that carry vitamins). Look for something with 3000mcg. of Biotin. 3.) System stress: many people have hair loss due to "shock". The body has gone through a sudden diet change and a surgery. Sometimes our system will shut down unnecessary functions to focus on the necessary ones. Hair not being necessary for life, is the first to go. Once your body recovers hair growth will resume. I had a lot of thinning and I focused on the above things, my hair loss stopped within three months and now it thicker than ever.

debb_hoff wants to be "big loser" :)
debb_hoff replied to debb_hoff's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello Friends, Thank you for your response. You are all so kind. I had my lapband surgery in Houston three days ago. I had to stay two extra days in the hospital cause my band didn't open up very much. I believe that was due to excess swelling. I had to stay on a drip to make sure I had enough hydration. I am home now without the drip, and I am trying to get fluids down. I think there is finally some trickling through. It has been kind of scary, but I am feeling more optimistic. But, I still feel that I wish I had not gone through with the surgery, but everyone says that will change in a week or two. I pray so. I am around 5'3 1/2" and weighed about 235. I think that I have lost 12 pounds or so in the last five days. I have been very uncomfortable with gas pains and everything coming back up. And I am talking only small amounts of Water until today. I had to miss my son's football game last night. He is a linebacker and had an incredible game...even put his picture on the front page of sports. It was nice to be home in my own bed though. I listened to his game on the radio. Everyone has been calling me and encouraging me. That has boosted my spirits. I want to thank you guys for being there. I know that this slump I am in will pass, and I will be better than ever...Must go now. Debbie -

I'm ranting here. I know what I need to do.. Protein Shake for Breakfast Protein shake for lunch sensible dinner DONE Where has the soda and bowls of Cereal come into play. It's like this crazy urge to eat and eat. I know part of it is from the lack of carbs throughout the day and I need my seratonin fix, but SHEESH....FAILURE! Four days to go and then three days of liquid I need some support here. I know I'm not the only one that's gone through this. Any ideas, tricks, techniques to DO IT? Obviously my forte is NOT will-power. Help... -
Just read some scary stuff, need perspective
blueskidoo posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi- I was over on the yahoo group, wls_uncensored, and I read some scary stuff about the VSG... Like fat and Protein deficiency and leaky gut syndrome, as well as Calcium, Iron, and B-12 problems. Death/paralysis of the stomach in the long term... Now I know these are just worst case issues, but I don't usually experience buyers remorse, and I would love a little re-assurance here. I am having a minor freak out at the moment. In good news I am 2 weeks out and down 20 lbs. -
congrats on the weight loss pre- surgery good job. I think it depends on what your BMI is before surgery and your overall weight loss attempt profile/history. If you have lost weight before only to regain plus more then the lapband is deffinately something you should consider. I think what your surgon is shocked at is such a high rate of loss, but again it depends on how much you have to loose. Do you have over 100 pounds to go? I'd still do your band surgery because the body looses in spourts sometimes and you can rest at a plateu for weeks before anymore weight is lost.

Suddenly SOOOO hungry!
Rev Me Up! replied to BeachWithMyBabies's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every week that goes by is another week of healing and you will notice changes in capacity and appetite. I never really feel hungry, but I can sometimes feel empty - like I need some food to fill up. If you are clear for full liquids, try drinkable yogurt. Lots of Protein. If you are eating pudding, have you tried a little bit of cottage cheese, chewed up really well? You might need to leave the room when other people eat for a while. These frist couple of weeks are the toughest. Hang in there! Lara
