    Hi everyone I'm new to this so I dont really know what I'm doing ,I would like some advice please ,I had the gastric bypass 8 weeks ago ,I was 23 stone4 pound before surgery and am now 21 10 but for the last 10 days I havnt lost any weight and I am hardly eating is this normal ?

  3. Hello everyone 😊 I finished my last nutrition class on the 11th of November and now I am curious what is happening next? How long was it for you to get the call for your surgery date? I met my weight loss goal and passed most of my scheduled drug test ( I fail once for alcohol but that was because I thought my appointment was the week after and my friend had a birthday party the day before 😮‍💨 lol)

    RNY to RNY revision.

    Wishing you both every success. I know it is easy to get down about a revision not working as well as the original but I dug into a bunch of scientific articles and most say the average person loses 10-15% less than the original weight loss surgery. I know when I had my gastric sleeve in 2012, I lost too much weight so I am hoping my revision to RNY just gets me within10 lbs of goal and helps my acid reflux. II'm having my revision 12/2/21 and keep you both in my thoughts.

    Thank you. I have been having therapy for a while and i feel now is the right time for me to move forward and look to the future and put me first. I have 4 children who obviously come first but i need to do this for me to be who i need to be for me and for them if that makes sense. I have put off doing so many things that i would have loved to do with them due to my weight and i feel guilty for that but i know now guilt wont change anything, all i can do is make better choices now to improve my future and hopefully be around for them a lot longer than i would be if i carry on as i am. My eating isnt as much a comfort thing now its my portion sizes as a small meal just wont satisfy me. I will keep a journal and write my questions down so i feel prepared.     GYM AFTER SURGERY? LIFTING WEIGHTS?

    I know this sounds stupid but everything except weights is like body weight exercises (lunges, squats, etc)? Did your doc mention any walking limitations like no hiking/stairs? I hike in an area that has a lot of stairs -- like a 12 story building -- and I'm wondering if that will be limited. I will ask my surgeon but just wanted input on here.

    First of all, I just want to say that I am so proud of you for reaching out and getting the process started. Sometimes that very first action is the hardest but you did it and that's something to celebrate. I would say as you're working through the process of getting approved for surgery, it would be worthwhile to see a therapist. I also have abuse and trauma in my history which heavily contributed to my disordered eating and weight gain. Getting help for my mental well being was the single most important piece of my journey. The surgery is just a tool and it will only work as well as you learn to use it. Making sure that you work through trauma, learn new coping mechanisms, and have a solid support system in place will help ensure long term success. As for questions, I'd say keep a journal or notebook and write things down as they come to mind. Then, take that to your appts and ask them all as you're able to. Personally, I wanted to know all about my surgeons success/mortality/infection rates, the pre- and post-op diets, long term eating habits, vitamin and supplement requirements, and my personal health history and how it may impact surgery and success. Of course, other questions came up along the way, so I asked those too. Welcome to the WLS surgery club. We're glad you're here and we're cheering you on!

    Hi everyone, im new on here. Wls is something i have thought about for a few years now but not seriously, i always thought eventually I'll do it on my own. I started putting on weight at around 12 years old. I was sexually abused from age 10 too 11. This affected me dramatically and i shut myself off from everything and food was my comfort. I have tried and failed at diets ever since. Iv tried most of the diets going, slimming world more tines than i can count, ww when it was weight watchers, rosemary connelly, cabbage soup diet, calorie counting and not eating for days at a time. Each time i lose some but eventually give up when the weight loss sticks and each time i end up heavier than before. Im now almost 23 stone (317lb) and im 5 foot 8 inches tall. My bmi 48 so im classed as morbidity obese. I wear 24/26 clothes. I have arthritis in my knees, feet and back which makes it difficult to exercise due to the pain and i know losing weight would help me a lot. My parents both have high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels and my mom is type 1 diabetic and has to inject insulin. The last few months i have thought more seriously about wls, i have spoken to the weight management woman at my gp surgery who got my doctor to refer me to bariatrics. I have a blood sugar blood test tomorrow and then i will be referred to hospital. I only spoke the her last week so im shocked im getting referred so quickly.     check with your surgeon (actually, he/she will probably let you know at your follow-up appts). I was walking right away. At four weeks out, I was cleared to do everything except for weights. At eight weeks out, I was cleared for weights.

    Your surgeon will tell you the answer for this question as it pertains to you. I was up and walking an hour after surgery. I did only walking for two weeks and had a 10-pound weight restriction. At my two-week appointment, I was cleared to do running, jumping rope, and biking and anything that didn't involve my core. I was also allowed to go up to 15 pounds (at my request) so I could use a training bar for barbell work. At my six-week appointment, I was cleared for anything I wanted. I took a few weeks to get back into the swing of things, and now at ten weeks out I am doing nearly everything I did before, but I have noticed some loss of strength (MUH GAINZZZZ). It is coming back relatively quickly as I increase the amount I eat.

As others have told you: you go at your own pace. i can give you my stats though. my highest? 330lbs at surgery:294 lbs. my weight now 8 months post op: 204lbs. that’s just over 11 pounds a month…. However I can tell you that there were many stalls where I lost barely anything, then I dropped a ton very quickly. for example: three weeks ago I was at 224 and I was holding steady at that same weight for several weeks before that. I figured I was just too close to my goal weight so it would take even more time and I would need to buckle down and really work at it. Imagine my surprise to find that I weigh myself a week later and it was 214….. then another week later and it’s 204…. now I am rethinking my goal. My goal was originally 195lbs (I’m 6 ft 2”) and that number is at the top of my “healthy bmi” scale. I’m now thinking I can go lower because I’m so close to goal right now and I still have fatty areas. 🤷🏼‍♀️ but that seems to be my “normal” where I would hold steady for a long period then drop a ton of weight over the course of a week or two…. Then hold steady for several weeks and drop again…

    Ah….. being retired makes a difference lol. im 39 so I have to get myself and my two kids ready and out the door by 6:15 am. Hence the rushed tiny breakfast. im a tad concerned about transitioning to maintenance phase once I’ve lost enough weight because of how little I’m still able to eat. My drs want me on lower protein amounts because my kidneys have trouble filtering it but I don’t want to lose what little muscle I do have. i figure it will be a conversation to have once I’m at a point where I will be looking to transition and I’m just not there yet.
  13. I had my original RNY in 2010. Lost 120 lbs. In the past 12 years I have had a baby, my parents moved in with me and my weak ankle and flat foot got progressively worse until I was limited to swimming and yoga for exercise. I gained 60 lbs back and my gastric reflex was getting bad. I had an upper GI and found 1. Hiatal hernia (rare for RNY) and my pouch was 3x the size my surgeon would like and my stomach 2x. He said that it is partially due to stretching and partially that my original surgeon made it bigger than he would have in the first place. Revision in 3 weeks. I’m a little nervous because last time I was able to lay around on the couch for 3 weeks post op and “eat” all my “meals” alone. Now I have a very active 7 year old and a family that likes to have family dinners together. Any other RNY to RNY revisions?

    March surgeries

    I am retired. So, I am not in a hurry to eat when I wake. In fact, I wake at 7 am and have 4 cups of weak decaf coffee before I eat breakfast at 10 or 10:30. I have been trying to slow down my weight loss. I am far past my goal and have lost a lot of muscle. So, I eat between 110 and 125 grams of protein and workout in the gym.

    Wow is that JUST breakfast? 😳 I still can’t eat much volume. For breakfast I might get ONE egg in, but anything other than that is a no go. I usually just grab a cheese stick because I don’t have time in the morning. If I do grab eggs I normally only eat half of one. I had surgery March 24th and just shy of 8 months later I am now 10 pounds from my goal. But I think I am going to readjust…. I think I can lose more. I still have plenty of fat left to lose on my abdominal area. 195 is the top number for a healthy weight for my height. I thought 195 was a realistic goal for me…. But I’ve seen people continue to loose weight a year out and that’s still 4 months away for me. Given that info and the fact that I’m still not up to eating a ton (I JUST hit the 60 grams of protein on a good day. Usually around 50 grams a day) plus the fact that I still have pockets of fat ? I think I’m adjusting lower. oh hey another fun fact: my hunger JUST came back!

    @Prestonandme those are still great numbers congratulations. I am 20 days post-op my numbers went from 200 into pre-diabetic numbers 100-120 not sure if it would get better as I am loosing the weight. Happy Holidays and thank you for sharing.
  19. Sounds to me you are on the right path. The first month stalls due to water weight and the body's adjustments are very common. Restriction came a little later for me when I got to solid foods and my body was competed healed. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app
  20. This. All of this!!!!! You couldn’t be more accurate. I started lifting about 8 months after surgery. Currently I am powerlifting and I’m in the best shape of my life. The crazy thing is, like you, how much I have to eat to maintain muscle mass. 1g protein per pound. 3000+ calories a day. Gaining muscle weight, not fat. Sitting at around 12% body fat. Get lifting people. You will see results. Start light. Start small. Progress will come.

    I encourage you to read this book. Its advice may be your salvation. A Pound of Cure by Matthew Weiner, MD. A cookbook by the same bariatric surgeon is Bariatric Diet Guide and Cookbook. Finally, this next book may help you get back on track by reminding you of the steps you learned when you had your surgery. The Success Habits of Weight Loss Surgery Patients, by Colleen Cook.
  22. I loss 19 pounds my first 7 days post op 🙌🏽 (Water weight or real weight.. weight is weight to me.. I’ll take it lol) I make sure I keep my water with me 24.7 and I walk every chance I get. I cook dinner for my kids with no problems. I have zero cravings!  By next week I should be in the 200’s. Haven’t been there since high school 🥲

    Am I really going to live on 1000 calories?

    I’m 6’4” and my highest known weight was 356 (but likely higher as I didn’t weigh often). Like you I was pretty active and my daily calorie count was high. I never counted (still don’t) but an honest assessment of my past puts me around 4-6000 calories a day! I would eat huge meals. Despite that insane guess, I put weight on slowly over the years, averaging 4lbs a year… it’s not a fair estimate because some years I would lose 30 then put 40 on etc. but overall average of 4lbs since I turned 18 (I was 45 when I had surgery). Fast forward 18 months post op and I’m not able to enter maintenance. I’m trying so hard to not lose more weight. I set a goal of 240, blew past that then thought “ok 220 would be good” and blew past that. I’m down to 182 now, my wife and mom (they never stop being moms do they?) are worried - and have been since I broke below 200 in April. Anyway, for the first six months I survived on about 500cal a day. I should say thrived. I had zero problems with that low of a calorie count. I was more active than ever, still am. I feel healthier than I was when I was 16, seriously. The hard part for me was remembering to eat. The day would go by and I would realize I only had my protein shake in the morning. I’m still not hungry, and I know I’m in the minority for going this long without feeling any hunger. I literally eat 1000 calories of peanut m&ms a day. Literally. And I’m still losing. I know it’s probably the least healthy thing I could eat but they are small and pocketable and I like them enough where I don’t get bored of them. I simply don’t have the capacity to eat enough “healthy” meals to make up the difference. I do get regular blood work done and everything is perfectly in the middle of where it should be, vitamin levels are good as well. I’d say I’m close to maintaining, I’ve been between 190 and 182 for about six months but it’s still trending ever so slightly down. I guess what all this rambling is getting at is this: you sound a lot like me. If you are the type of person that can drop weight fast on a diet you’re likely to be wildly successful with the weight loss portion of this endeavor. Everything else is up in the air and seems to be variable for everyone. For me I have had no complications, no foods bother me, nothing tastes different (I hoped it would but it didn’t), I can and do eat whatever I want, but my restriction is so good (and it does feel good) that it still takes me two days to eat a burger, or four days to eat a chipotle burrito (and I don’t even finish it). I don’t have a problem being around food or seeing people eat. My whole relationship with food is completely different. I see it as an inconvenience, but I still enjoy good food and I seek out new and exotic things for fun, I just know I’m taking home 90% of what I order most of the time. My only complaint is my wife and mom think I’m too skinny, which is just an opinion, my doctors are thrilled with my weight and all associated / tested statistics, and as I said I feel absolutely amazing. I feel like I have another 10-15lbs to lose but I’m riding the struggle bus to keep that from happening for the benefit of others. 5000 calories? I’m disgusted with that person. 1500 - 2000 a day give or take is plenty 18 months out and I had nooo problem living on half that for the first year. This was - by far - the best money I’ve ever spent on myself. I’ve easily saved more than my surgery cost ($4400 in Mexico) and I have only great things to say about every aspect of it. I wish it was this easy for everyone. My wife had it done too but she has lost nothing at this point. She eats less than I do, but she never lost when dieting before so we should have known a smaller stomach wouldn’t have helped. I don’t think she needs to lose weight anyway, she’s perfect. But my opinion doesn’t count in her mind :) she has some underlying heath issues we’re working through which we believe contributes to her crazy slow metabolic rate. So I see and live with both sides of how surgery works and doesn’t work for some (if you’re a slow “loser” reading this and you’re on plan and doing everything you should, I BELIEVE YOU, even though everyone assumes you’re not on plan. I know how hard it is for you, and I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Don’t give up, find a doctor that listens to you and believes you too and start looking for why, and stop going to doctors that don’t listen. Don’t let them give you self doubts (end tangent)).     @Octalmist37 - I can COMPLETELY relate to the mind set part. I'm only a year out, but regain is a HUGE fear as I've progressed through this adventure. My thoughts - be brutally honest with yourself and do whatever motivates YOU to get back on track. For me, it's shame - I HAVE to weigh myself daily. Otherwise I tend to play mind games on myself (my clothes still fit, so I must be fine, right?) - Yeah, **** stretches! Another thing I tried (that really did NOT work) was to "allow" myself 5 lbs gain - Nope, too easy to let those 5 become 10. So, my advice for you is really to just suck it up, realized you screwed up, and get back to basics - One day at a time. If you screw up one day, just start over the next. Don't let it turn into a bender.
  25. So I had the sleeve surgery October of 2014, day of surgery I was 343.6 pounds. I'm 6'1. At the bottom weight I was 166 (way to small). I'm gaining weight to the point that where I'm back up at the 250 area. I dont want to be a failure, I dont want to be the unsuccessful stories you hear about, but I just can find the proper mindset to get back on track. I'm only 30-40 pounds over the goal weight which I know is achievable with a little work. But I just get get back there mentally. If there is anyone out there that can relate, that has any ideas that could help me that would be grand. I'm so scared right now it's the WORSE time of year, days from Thanksgiving and Christmas. My mind set is all over the place, im disappointed that I've allowed myself back here, im scared what the holidays will bring....... I just dont know how to do it. If you read this and have a helpful opinion please leave it. You don't have to suger coat it, I cant take it blunt.
