No weight loss 11 days after bypass

I'm 10 days post op, and I just now started to see some weight loss. I think that your body is still going through a big 'holy crap what are you doing to me?' and holding onto everything that you put into it until it finally realizes that the calorie intake isn't going to change. I also believe that everyone's body is different, and that this is especially true of diabetics. Tell her to not get discouraged, to keep doing what she's doing, and as everyone else said, to move as much as she can, even if that's just doing laps around the living room. We all wish her the best!

    Gallbladder Sludge

Getting it out will help! I am 3 days post op of getting my gallbladder removed. I am 10 months post bypass surgery. I did not feel good when I ate anything for 6 months but my surgeon did not think I had ulcers or anything serious. When I ate I would have pain on my left side below my ribs and I also just did not feel like myself or generally I felt not well. On Super Bowl Sunday I had a severe gallbladder attack. I went to UPMC where I had my bypass and they found severe sepsis blood infection caused by my gallbladder backing up bile in my liver ducts. My liver was also inflamed. So I had 7 days in the hospital and another 14 days of in home IV antibiotics. Then they finally took it out on Feb 28. I can say that I feel more like my old self than I have for a while. The operation went well and I was released home on the same day as the surgery. Good luck but getting the gallbladder removed should improve your health.

    March Bypass Buddies

    Here’s another newbie-surgery scheduled 3/18/19.
  6. My surgery is on March 18 and I’m wondering if anyone else is having surgery around that time too? Hoping to connect with someone who may be on the same timeline.
  7. And you will be glad for the surgery when everything settles down again. It rocks you and your world for quite awhile but you're gonna be glad. Would never want to go back to HW (365+) even my surgery weight(319) I will be 6 months this Tuesday (9/05/2018) think I am hovering around 260-265, I have a different type doctor appointment Monday(3/04/19) they do have a scale, I don't own one myself, had a speaking one, got mad, pitched it in the dumpster long ago. Last thing I need is a robotic voice saying "You weigh the same as a small steer!" Yes people have started to notice, but not in a positive way, "Your face looks gaunt"- Are you sure you aren't taken for sick? "Did you get Cancer?" No, is it mandatory? Have your surgery before you're old like me, nobody considers a Happy thing like deliberate weight loss when you're over 70. Last person , the one asking about cancer, I told her" No I had weight loss surgery",only to be told "Nope that's a lie, you know you have cancer and don't want to admit it!" Why argue, I said " Bye Felecia " to her and went on my merry way , inside I'm shaking my head, I'd never have said That to Her. People are strange and some don't get any brighter as the years pass. But although some days I Think I look like a wreck on the B&O waiting for somebody to clear the tracks, the few people I have left that love ME say it is a positive change. I think one of the things is. I am rather housebound in Central Ohio, it's gloomy cold March and I need some real sunlight on my skin, too poor for tanning beds, don't care if it brings out my Celtic freckles, at least I won't look any longer like skim milk, and not Fairlife, the cheap kind, after the butterfat has disappeared.

Praying for you today and look forward to sharing your journey as we move to a better life Thank you! Surgery day has come and gone, i am home from the hospital here is what it was like for me: Surgery day and after: Surgery 2/20/2019 I never got scared as i got close to surgery time and even when they wheeled me in and put me to sleep i was not, i think my will to be healed from so many medical issues was stronger then the surgery. In recovery: I remember i was not talking much all they got out of me was a head nod i was not i a talkative mood. After recovery: i really dont remember the ride lol. My family was waiting for me and even then i did not have much to say even though i heard everything that was being spoken. After about an hour in my room i then started speaking. My belly hurt, i got meds for that, i never got nauseated in the hospital and i drinked my water like a trooper. Well i dunked the four small cups thats all. The next night, i understood why i was a trooper my belly was still full of medicine so i was not sensing that i was full. Oh, baby, but, the next day everything changed!!! It was hard getting that water down. The next day i did not want to walk either. The Nurses on the floor did not make me walk as well. I got the will yo walk on my own. I started having feelings that i was getting a cold. They had to give me meds for it. My doctor was a little annoyed thinking i was sick when i got there and i told him i was not. He told me his OR was cleaner then my house....(i will address that with him in time). When i got home after two days the cold symptoms were gone. It seemed like it was something my body was reacting to maybe my internal fear.... Home: i had a tough time getting water and meal shake down. All my liquid preparing made me sick to look at it. The pre packaged protein shakes made me sick to taste and to look at and the power shakes just the same. Now all of these things i loved prior to the surgery date. I could not get the water down, my BP was low low and my urine was dark. I had to figure out what to do with out having someone rush me back to the hospital...I got my BP some by adding salt to my popsicle. I starting drinking water omitting the protein shake since my water hd 20 grams of protein in it. I never called the doctor because i did not want to renter the hospital. Let me digress, dumping is real, when i was trying to get my protein and water in before the shakes turned my tummy upside down with a thought i had a dumping episode. It was horrible and it lasted over four hours. I have been drinking this protein water which had 20 grams of protein in it and i feel better. I am down 10lbs and my BP is better. I see non scale loss as well. My two week follow ip is in two days 3/5/2019 and my soft starts 3/7/2019. I feel good today. I am scheduled to return to work on the 14 if March, but as a supervisor i am afraid i will go back to old habits if managing my agents and moving about the office and lose track if my water intake. I am trying to this of how to explain this to my Doctor Tuesday for him to request me to be off an extra week. Today: I burp alllllll the time. Oh, i forgot to tell you i did not even like the smell of the chewable vitamins anymore yuk yuk. Health changes: my left side of my leg swelling is GONE! I have walked around the house with heals on and i have not been able to wear real shoes i 3 1/2 years!!! I am super excited about this change. Well i hope all of this makes sense. Best decision Imade for me! I can see change in my face. I will take a body shot at my Doctors office on 3/5/2019 and post.
  10. I’m worried that I’m not being realistic about time off from work. I realize that it can’t be predicted because of possible complications and I can go on FMLA leave if something does happen. But I’m trying to get a handle on whether I’m going to need more than 10 days total before I go back to work. That’s what I have avail in paid time off. I have an office job, no heavy lifting, some walking around (which I think will be good for me). I’m a pretty tough cookie - not a wimp when it comes to pain or discomfort. I was back to work less than a week after laparoscopic gall bladder removal. Does that compare at all to how recover from bypass surgery might be?

    Has anyone tried Orange theory?

Before I tore my shoulder I did an orange theory type workout called training mate. No treadmills cause I don’t run. I did 10 classes a week and looked incredible. Paid $225 a month and it was worth every penny. I won’t do OTF cause of the treadmills but they do offer less cardio slots. I have popcorn lung so I can’t run but my friends who run love it.

    Low Carb Protein Bars

I've been eating Protein One bars by the makers of Fiber One. They come in four different flavors: Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Fudge, Peanut Butter Chocolate, and Strawberries & Cream. One bar is 90 calories, 10 grams of protein, 11 grams of carbs, and 4 grams of fiber (so 7 net carbs total). Quest protein bars have pretty decent stats. They have around 4 net carbs, I believe. I've never tried them, so I can't say whether or not they're any good.
  13. I am looking for a protein bar that has 10 carbs or less per serving, but am not having much luck. Has anyone found any decent tasting protein bars with low carbs???

    ❤MARCH 2019 CHALLENGE❤

Goal: stay healthy for the month and lose 8 lbs Beginning: 181 lbs Post op: July 10, 2018
  15. Froufrou, they diagnosed me at 5 weeks with a strictured stoma opening in my pouch, 3 ulcers within there, 5 on the back wall of the jejuneum. I started trying to tell them at 2 weeks out something was wrong, I kept getting poo-pooed, I was swollen, I wasn't giving myself a chance to heal. They might have the fancy degrees, but I have lived in this body a LONG TIME. I have had 10 endoscopies , they kept trying to stretch it open. Zilch lasting effects. On November 28th, noticing the ulcerations were marching down my jejuneu m and heading towards my illium, to properally heal i needed 129 he protein, on my p.o. liquids I was nowhere near that so in went the PICC on the 29th, went from 24 hours daily, to 14, then 12, and was on 10 when they decided to remove it. It had become rather my buddy, I cried when they removed it, now I have to try to make up the calories by mouth, I'll try but doubtful it is going to go well. We shall just see!

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Honestly it just kinda “happened” a couple of days ago. I still can’t stomach more than 1/4 cup before noon, but by lunch and dinner, I’ve drank enough and I walk enough since I’ve gone back to work that it’s easier. I’m on my feet for my entire work shift - between 10-12 hours- so the food and water go better the longer I’m on my feet.

    Im so angry

I understand why you are angry. My husband is 19 years older than I am and my biggest fear is that he is going to die. My husband has diabetes and I find Dunkin' Donut wrappers in the back of his car and he buys junk and brings it in the house and eats unhealthy fried food when we go out. It's taken me MANY, many hours to explain what is healthy for an overweight 68 year old man with Diabetes to be eating. I wish he was interested in the surgery or reading nutrition information on food at the store, but it's just not going to happen right now. It's like flying. You have to secure your own oxygen mask first before you can help others. I realized, to have a happy marriage, I was going to have to lead the eating healthy movement by example, but that nagging him or "catching" him doing stuff that terrible for him is not going to make anything better. He has to want to get healthier on his own timeline. Good luck, I empathize.

Beginning a workout after post op

I had my sleeve1/21/19. I have been working out since the 2nd day after surgery. Treadmill and stationary bike. I am 5 weeks out down 38lbs. I was 293 at Surgery, I am 255 today. Saw Surgeon Thursday he was ecstatic with my progress. Anyone who is negative about the process I just shut them out. Stalling for a little bit is normal. I did for a week. No complications at all. No nausea or vomiting either. THE EXERCISE SPEEDS UP THE WEIGHT LOSS!!! I am starting swimming today.

    Weight loss with breast loss

Well I had breast cancer at the age of 40 back in ‘09 and made the choice after all the chemo and radiation that since one of them tried to kill me, I was done with them. Before diagnosis, I was 230 pounds and still carrying G-cups. Since I had breast cancer, I got “free” reduction surgery and went from DDD to a B cup in a morning. 9 years later this is still the best decision I ever made, but the dramatic difference in my profile took some getting used to. I was actually heavier after chemo than before (gained 10 pounds) but now since I just got sleeved 3 weeks ago I do kinda wonder what’s going to happen to the lil ole Bs I have now. I’m kinda worried that they will completely disappear, but if they do I know I’ll still be so much healthier for it
  23. Yep - my doc consistently told me that the average weight loss is 60% EWL and that if I follow the plan, that's what I could expect. On another thread where people were discussing their goal weights - I said that this was mine and that I don't want to set myself up to feel like a failure. I'm pretty appreciative that my doc is conservative in his estimates. And some other WLS patients on these boards were kind of jerks about it. Saying that by setting of goal of average I was assuming I'd fail and still be obese and why was I even doing it. Even though I'm about 10 lbs from the 60% EWL at 4 months out, so likely to exceed that, I'm still thankful for my doc setting expectation. I'd rather under-promise and over-deliver. Because I know that if I did only achieve the average weight loss, and I'd expected/hoped for more, I would feel like a failure. And that would be very bad for my mental state. Plus, I had to judge whether or not to have surgery based on the most conservative outcomes - would I still be glad I went through it if I was still slightly obese? Yep - because I will still have lost a significant amount of weight that I couldn't have lost without this tool. And, overall, it will make me more healthy, even if I don't get to a "healthy" weight.
