    Awaiting the Bandit

I know how you feel, but Unfortunately they have to submit everything (test included) to the insurance company for approval. United Health Care told me the reason I was approved so quickly (2 days after they submitted everything instead of the 10 days) was beacuse the sugeon submitted everything required. Good Luck!

    Tracking

I'll be 10 weeks out on Monday & I track EVERYTHING on MyFitnessPal & haven't missed a day since my pre-op diet started 12 weeks ago. It helps me to keep tracking because I can see what I eat & make sure I get enough protein & fluid in each day. I like seeing how different things influence my body & tracking helps.

    Non-Scale Victories Thread

Today's my 4 mos anniversary of being banded... Total weight loss 81 3/4 lb. - since surgery 48 3/4 lbs. I am still convinced this has been the best thing I ever did for myself, my life, and my family. Since 1/22/09 my health has taken a nose dive... whooping cough, inflammed brochial tubes, (6 weeks), just feeling better and kidney stones hit with lots of complications including two stays in the hospital 3 day and a 8 day. Infection in my blood, surgery on stones, and pnemonia. A very sick cookie. I know you are wondering where I'm heading with this...NSV - Not being able to exercise but craving, yearning, wanting (in the shape I was I won't use dying) to EXERCISE what a change in my thought process. My LBS has been awesome...visited me in the hospital both times admitted. Dietician has also visited me in hospital. They have given me such support ... I know I am and will continue to be successful in my new lifestyle change. Through all the illnesses my primary concern was my band...it has come through like a trooper. I'm still very protective ... which is good because it helps me make good choices and follow the LB rules! I'm really beginning to realize what all the talk about it being a TOOL is about. I have to make my food decisions and can make good choices. Still measuring all my foods. DH has bought me the Wii/Wii fit and a sport's watch to monitor my heart rate. I did fudge a little (dr. has not released me to do any exercises yet except minor 5 to 10 min. walks.) and tried some of the balancing games and I did try the Basic Step Aerobics(laughed with DH more than anything because I have no rhythm - can't figure out right, left, front, back - out of 85 steps I got 13 and this was on the beginner! Another NSV - realizing my DH is there to be supportive and that I can handle his help. I am nothing but grateful for having my best friend travel by my side on this journey. Have you begun to see a common thread through my rambling.... My most important NSV is my MIND SET. I am beginning to BELIEVE I am changing my LIFESTYLE. In the beginning of my journal I wrote, "I am dedicating this journal to a lifestyle change: From Living to Eat to Eating to Live!" I believe I am on my way to doing that! PS - I could actually buy a top today at the local Walmart store and only pay $8.00 instead of the only store for plus size women I've had to shop at for the past 10 years! What an anniversay present! Keep the faith! Deb

    Light Lifting

I am five days out and have a 20 lb baby. I am very worried about lifting him but I don't have any choice. I am scared that I am going to cause myself complications. It is frustrating to say the least. I wasn't told that I couldn't lift anything over ten lbs prior to surgery, found out two days before. Btw... I was told 10 lbs for two weeks and then ease in slowly. Ugh. so far no problem....

    Light Lifting

I was told nothing over 10 pounds for 6 weeks, 20 pounds for 8 weeks..... after that do as much as your body can handle.... but increase slowly...it takes a LOT of energy to power lift and at that early out we arent eating enough calories to support it in most cases.... I didnt start HEAVY lifting until over 3 months out....

    Light Lifting

I'm 8 weeks post op. I started with 5 pound weights around 5 weeks I think, and now I'm at 10 pound weights. I also used weight machines one night, not thinking about the weight limit (my doctor didn't tell me how long I had to weight, just said avoid heavy lifting for a few weeks). So I've done well over 10 pounds on my arms and legs, but that was just one short period of time. Definitely ask your surgeon/doctor if you can.
  7. I've finished recording "The Big Book of the Gastric Bypass." I'm not done by any means; it generally takes three hours to edit and master an hour of finished audio. It's always a bittersweet experience to get this far. I don't narrate books I'm not emotionally involved with, in some sense. On this one the connection is obvious, and I'm pleased to be invoved with a work that I know is doing a lot of good. Now I'm processing the files, running them on a split screen with the Kindle book on the top half of the screen and the sound editing software on the bottom. I'm trying to stick as close to the text as possible. The problem with reference books is that there is no way of reading tables of data and making them sound interesting...it's like trying to read a phone book, The purpose of the audiobook is to be engaging and entertaining not to be a detailed information source. I try to decide what's important and include it without breaking up the flow. Of course, if the author disagrees with any decisions I make, I re-do it his way. It's his book. I'm catching edit points where I mispronounced something, mush-mouthed a phrase or fluffed a word. I usually know when I haven't done a sentence well, and I re-record it on the spot. If I catch something on the first edit pass I'll go back into the studio and re-record the whole paragraph so I can easily blend in the edit. I'm also working on pacing by tweaking the empty spaces between sentences and paragraphs. After 19 audiobooks I've gotten pretty good at the process, and I still enjoy the heck out of it. It feels like craftsmanship. Once the file is edited there will be at least two more passes to catch missed edits or noise. Then I'll process the WAV files into MP3s and send them up the line to Audible. They do their own quality control, and I fix any problems they find. The author is also reviewing the final files, and I will fix anything that bothers him. Once we're all done, the title goes live on Audible, Amazon and iTunes. One of the details I have to take care of is selecting the five-minute sample that is part of all Audible listings. You can listen to five minutes of any Audible title before deciding to buy it. I wait to pick the sample until the book is recorded; some segment will recommend itself for the job. With this one it was pretty easy. I don't think it will upset anyone if I give folks here on the board a sneak preview of the five-minute sample. I'll attach the file to this message. Please let me know what you think of it! rygb_5min_sample.mp3

    Band me! June 10th

Hello I'm Getting Banded On The 10 Also.............
  9. I am finding that I am eating more and more lately also. My surgery was 7/01 and I have lost 64 pounds, with which I am very pleased. I am also off all diabetic and blood pressure meds since surgery so am much healthier than I thought possible this soon. But.......I am now reaching the point where I always get bored and revert to bad habits and am having to fight harder each day to stick to the program. The last time I lost any weight, about 30 pounds in 2004, I lasted about 3-4 months and then the holidays came and I gained it all back plus a few. So I am concerned. I wish to luck and success with your efforts! Leigh
  10. My elliptical- my wonderful, wonderful elliptical, is broken. One of the pedal wheels is broken. I ordered the part ($100!!!!!) and got it and went to change it and it looks like I'm going to have to take half the elliptical apart to fix it. My dh, though wonderful, is not at all handy nor helpful. I have been on SUCH a good kick! I'm up to 40 minutes- 10 min at level 1 and 30 minutes at level 2. SOOOOO- Of course I have other things to do- my Wii is broken and we're not replacing it until after the new one comes out around the holidays so I can't do my Wii Zumba. i do go to the Y for zumba 2-3 days a week, so that's covered. I have been walking in my neighborhood. I have TONS of The Firm videos, karen voight videos, etc- so there are lots of other options available to me. So, just reassure me that even without my elliptical for who knows how long I will still lose weight! I've been doing so well- I guess I should get one of those fitbits to see how many calories I burn with the other exercise. Just need my peeps to encourage me!!! LOL Reassure me that all those other things I can do are as effective (or is it affective? no, I think effective- this is the one that always eludes me). Thanks for listening. No one but DH and my mom know I"m banded irl, so I NEED all of you
  11. Hey there... I think I have been on this site atleast once a day, I am putting my deposit down on my new life next week.. I have decided to have my surgery at OCC with Dr. Ortiz the week of Thanksgiving. I am soo excited yet sooo nervous. I have ALWAYS struggled with my weight... I would loose 10... 20.. 50 pounds to ALWAYS gain it back.. IT SUCKS.... Then I get the joy of adding Menapause to the mix at 41 ( whew no one tells you how fun that is going to be) I had originally thought about doing the Lap Band , but A good friend of mine had hers fail( she eventually did gastric bypass) Sooo gastric sleeve here I come. My best friend is going to meet me there, she is in California and I am in Georgia and my husband will be in Afghanistan( he is behind me 100%) . This site has been soo helpful, I have found answers to things I did not even know to ask, so thank you everyone for being so honest. Now if the next few months would fly by I would be a happy camper. I look forward to getting to know ya'll .

    Blood Pressure... Up?

I don't eat any more salt than I used, probably even less. I never was one to pile the salt onto food (I'm into pepper ) or eat overly salty food. 90% of what I drink is water, the other 10% is some sort of juice. Today was the first time I used the bp machine at Walmart. When I got to the doctor, though, my blood pressure is still around 125-130 over 80-85. Like I said, still fairly normal but a lot higher than what it used to be. I can't use the excuse that I'm just worked up because I'm at the doctor's because pre-op, the same doctor would measure my bp as 110 over 70. I've never heard of white coat syndrome.

    Food addiction realization

If you can, do what I did to avoid seeing food. I didn't watch commercial TV. I loaded up my DVD player and watched movies and seasons of TV shows. I wanted to avoid thinking about food at all costs. And I too was angry. Don't know what I was angry about, but I really really wanted to fight everyone for those 1st 10 days post-op.

    Too many calories?

That seems high to me. I'm 9 months out and stay between 900-1100 a day. Usually don't reach 1100. I'm 10 lbs from goal. I don't plan to up my calories any until I get below goal.
  15. Has anyone been re-sleeved? I was sleeved 06/29/10. My highest weight was 343 and I dropped to 211 in less than a year. Unfortunately, after that year my weight started to creep back slowly. First 20 pounds, then 30....now I'm back up to 272 pounds!! I always told myself that I would never go back to where I came and from and look where I am. I spoke to the Bariatric center here in Charlotte and they explained that being "sleeved" again is actually an option. I had such an effortless great surgery in 2010 and I'm curious if there will be any risks that are greater now.
  16. I was in the same boat as you for about 14 months. I lost about 65lbs doing it that way. When you PB is it really easy? Like with me I just bent over and it would come out. So there was no risk of hurting my band.. or so I thought. Everyone on this site pretty much talked me into getting an unfill. I did and I now feel great. Its only been a week. I have not lost any weight this week, but I have lots of energy. I have mental clarity as well. I only consume 1400 calories a day and I do exercise. I'm going to see how it goes. What the hell I can always get more put back in. But I can't afford another band if I mess this one up. I'm 10 lbs till goal so I'm going to try eating right and exercise on the last leg of this trip. GOOD LUCK... You do what you think is right for you.

Hi I had my band removed in October due to severe GERD, just had the bypass on 11-10-14....they waited 6 weeks before doing my bypass for my stomach to heal. When they 1st took the band out, it felt great to eat whatever I wanted, at least temporarily, until bypass. No vomiting or reflux, now that I'm about 10 day after, it's definitely takes me back to 2011 when I 1st got my band and the stages. But I'm 15 lbs down so far and I think patients like you & I have the benefit of hindsight. We have been through the journey already so I don't think we will make the same mistakes twice! So good luck with everything !!
  18. Today is the day that I officially started pureed food (however I did cheat just a tiny bit by having TINY amounts Monday and Tuesday). It's exactly two weeks after my surgery, and I'm down about 10 pounds. Oddly enough, I actually have gained back a few pounds since Monday when I had very small amounts of real food. I stepped on the scale and now I'm down 8 pounds. I'm still absolutely thrilled I've been able to shed that amount in two weeks, people are already noticing!! However, I do find it odd a gained a few of those pounds back since I'm burning far more calories than I'm taking in. Has anyone ever experienced this?

    8 weeks and 40 pounds

Congratulations! I was sleeved on May 7th, so today is my 8 weeks post op. I'm down 42 lb since surgery, but when I started this journey I'm down a total 87 lbs. Feb 10 - 365 lb -1st Dr visit April 17 - 342 lb - Pre-Op visit May 7 - 320 lb - Surgery date July 2 - 278 lb - 8 weeks post-op Right now I'm avg about 3-5 lb per week, feel great jogging and walking 3-4 times a week. This weekend is going to be a BIG Weekend, going to go see family that I have not told about my journey. Just got to remember to eat right and drink alot of Water. Hope everyone has a safe 4th weekend.
  20. Hi - reporting in here for May 5th sleever! I hit 8 weeks yesterday and am down 40 pounds! Yahoo! I also figured how to get past my 3.5 week stall - eat more calories! My NUT said I had to increase my calories to 800 per day (was eating 400-500) because my body was in starvation mode and holding onto the fat. I started losing again once I increased my calories. Only 10 more pounds to wonderland! Super excited. How are all the other May sleevers doing out there?

2 weeks out, only 10 pounds down

Yep. I'm 4 weeks out and have only lost 10 lbs . My first week home I dropped 10 lbs. the scale hasn't moved since.
  22. I did 10 days pre-op liquid diet. It is absolutely nothing like the post op liquid diet, or anything else post op for that matter. The healing phase is more about the healing process of just having 85% of your stomach removed, plus the fact that you have around 5 incisions, and stiches, etc. Any regretful feeling that I woke up from surgery having, as the sheer fact that I was in total misery. As such, one would have that feeling after ANY surgery. I know when I had my hysto, I had the same "wtf did I do" feeling. I'm now entering my 3rd week post op and I am feeling much better. I think of my digestive tract as that of a new born baby. Things have to be introduced slowly and if it doesn't work the first time, give it a few and try again.

    Curious About First Fills

I am having my first fill on 12/5/07 - was banded on 10-25-07. The first 3-weeks I lost 25 lbs but recently I haven't lost any. At first I wasn't even hungry but now it seems that I can eat more and really have to supress my hunger. I know some of it is probably head hunger but I can honestly say that I could eat more if I wanted to (of course I am watching everything that I eat - I really want this to work). Did anyone else have this issue? Will it be better after the fill? Everyone on this board has been so generous with their experiences, I value your opinions.

I am having difficulty with tastes. I can't take pain med or protien shakes because I just get so sick and dry heave. I'm afraid of my incisions busting open from having so hard. I just got my drain out 10 minutes ago and starting Vitamin supplements. Hopefully it will get better. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  25. I'm trying not to get discouraged but tomorrow will be 2 weeks and I'm only down 10 pounds. I'm getting all my protein and water and have not cheated at all. I walk a mile everyday. Anyone else go through this? Any advice to get the scale moving? Thanks.
