Does anyone know of a good Protein Shake that doesn't have artifical sweetner?
CheleLynn45 replied to Addawn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't do artificial sweetners either but I have found that I can drink Premiere Protein RTD shakes with no problem, no aftertaste and no headaches. Not sure what kind of sweetener is in them. I would have to go take a look. The back says sucralose?? I am just glad the don't bother me cause it is mostly what I use for lunches. I also use GENEPRO (an unflavored protein powder) in my decaf tea in the mornings. I use Splenda in my tea and again no problems. I can't use any of the Water enhancers or sugar free syrups because I cannot take the aftertaste and the headaches I get. You will get a lot of great answers on here, that's one thing I love about this site!! Good Luck!! -
How much should I be able to eat
dvons replied to gustavio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I heard that there's some controversy behind GENEPRO. Check out MelanieSlicedThinner on YouTube if you're interested. Sent from my SPH-D710VMUB using the BariatricPal App I'm a huge fan of GenePro. I'll definitely check that out. Thanks. -
Eating at 5 weeks post op
tenseintexas replied to Anabean's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Anabean I am 5 1/2 weeks out and I have one shake a day and then put a scoop of GENEPRO in something for another meal .....sigh. I hate the shakes and it's a pain to drink them but that's the only way to get the Protein for me Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Layknee the unflavored protein powder is the best. I can get 30 grams and not even taste it. I love it . I use Genepro I ordered it from Amazon.

That article is just another another opinion, trying to simplify a complex issue. And debating opinions is a waste of time. You eat your genepro, I'll eat my whey, and Julie will eat her hemp. Discussion over.

shellyd88 replied to glitterpockets's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes the isolate is better it's more expensive but dissolves better etc I didn't care at the time cuz I couldn't choke it down so I got the genepro unflavored and mixed in with hot tea broth soup cottage cheese pudding dissolve with a bit of water those before adding to hot liquid or it clumps it was all I could tolerate -
I got Genepro from Amazon on Prime Deliery. Today is the first day i used it and i feel oh so good about getting all my protein in before i leave work. Now i can focus the rest of my night on water intake since i still have about 30 ounces to go.. and if i really want something i will have a popcicle.

July 2021 Surgery People!
Candace76 replied to Sammys_VSG_Evolution's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi MoreThanWords, I am still a few of weeks out, but I also was worried about what to eat, so I wanted to be prepared and get some the clear liquid & full liquid staples before I start my pre op diet. I have tried some protein shakes from Unjury & Premier Protein. They were ok. Not a fan of vanilla now, but that may change after surgery or if I get tired of chocolate. I like adding them to coffee (Unjury had a cappuccino flavor, I want to try it with caramel flavored Premier Protein), and will probably do that once it is allowed. From Walmart, I purchased some sugar-free drink mixes, chicken broth, veggie broth, beef broth, sugar free jello, & sugar free ice pops. Some items were name brand and others were Walmart brands. Trying to save $ where I can as supplements, vitamins etc. all add up. I bought a tub of chocolate Premier Protein from Walgreens. Yesterday, I placed my first order on BariatricPal and ordered Aunt Millie's broths (pho & Thai), BP Protein soups, BP protein fruit drinks, & Genepro Unflavored protein mix. Last week I ordered some cups for shakes, water, & broth. I got one cup with a strainer for traveling (in case I need to order soup & strain it). I still need to get vitamins, hibiclens, and prilosec before the surgery. Before the puree & soft stages I want to purchase a mini portable chopper/processor & food scale. Thanks for sharing the recipe. I see us probably having a lot of broth and soups in those first few weeks. Jenfs5, thanks for recommending Fairlife, I want to try that brand now, too. Also worried about those clear liquid days (after surgery probably won't be bad as it isn't long and based on others experiences-you aren't that hungry at first). Hopefully, the excitement of being so close to our surgery will make it a little easier. I read other people say that the broth helped fill them up and jello helped give the chewing feeling. (Not a big fan of jello, but when you are only allowed a few things it may be nice to have) Best of luck everyone! -
Help! I think I'm dying
busybeebug replied to ginaandy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It can take a bit to feel better. Keep going slow and steady. It will get better. I can't say how long for you. Have you tried putting unflavored protien in your water?(if you are alowed) Once I started doing that, I began feeling much better. I use Genepro. Taking the pepcid can help even if you don't feel the acid. Hang in there it will get better -
I buy a 32oz container of nonfat Greek yogurt and add sugar free fruit preserves and maybe Splenda if needed. Blend it with a mixer. Nonfat cottage cheese also. Also Genepro Unflavored protein powder added to your fave broth or sugar free drinks.

Thanks for the welcome everyone! And the advise...I had read some reviews that Genepro produced less gas and bloating... @@Queen Good job with fasting and exercising...I really struggle with the exercise. I think I am the only physical therapist who hates to exercise! LOL Like you, I'm OK once I start but it is hard to overcome the inertia. I had my last required weight loss appointment and have completed all the other insurance requirements. It should all be faxed to my surgeon by the end of the day. I am hoping to have a surgery date soon. I am an educator and am hoping to have my surgery over spring break and return to work after only 1 week off. Perhaps I will need more time but we'll see. My surgeon mentioned using a liquid protein immediately after surgery. Has anyone had experience with these products? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Ladies, I wish I knew about Genepro during my first weeks post op. It is tasteless and a small spoonful packs 30 grams of protein. There is a thread somewhere on here that I kept reading. I finally went on Amazon and am kicking myself for not buying it earlier. #traveler60 sorry about the scrambled eggs. Not sure why they didn't settle well with you. Still happens to me sometimes on eggs n everything if I "mindless" eat my meal. I forget to chew sometimes... Lol. Boy does it hurt! I try to walk it off and that helps a little. Happy Friday everyone????????

Hi all, Is the Genepro Protien called "Musclepro Research Genepro Genetic Tri-Protien Peptide Powder"? That is what comes up on Amazon with a search. Thanks, Janet

@@layknee at my hospital they kept bugging me about my fluids, and trying to bribe me telling me if I do this I can go home. I finally got mad and told them if they are going to discharge me based on my liquids then please leave because I can't get it down yet and your bribes are getting annoying and I feel like you're kicking me out and I'm not ready. The doctor was so annoying and I felt like I was going to explode. At my hosital they didn't do a drip test or anything. I just couldn't drink anything for 24 hours after surgery, then it was the 1oz every hour for 4 hours, then 2oz every hour for 2 hours, then 3oz every hour for 3 hours, then when you could do 4, it was time to be discharged. I couldn't drink protein either. My genepro arrived as I was walking in from the hospital so I got some in today, I made a shake and then mixed genepro with diet snapple. I really feel so full, but I can drink water very fast.

I haven't started tracking my calories yet. I do get in 1 Protein Drink a day of the GENEPRO, my nut says that's enough. Plus I get in at least 32 oz of liquids. I try for 64 but it doesn't always happen. I don't wait a whole hour after eating. I wait about 30-45 minutes depending on how I'm feeling. At work its hard to get in all my fluids, I do try though. And I had to switch up my Vitamins so I can get them all in. I take all but my Calcium before work, then on my 2 breaks that are usually 3 hours apart I take my calcium. It's working so far.

Best dinner ever, I made some chicken stock and placed in the freezer for after surgery. It is, of course, delicious homemade stock. I had one single smallish potato cubed and boiled for 30 minutes. Had to search for a pot to place my tiny potato and found one so small I don't think I have ever used before. It came with a set, so there it was. I added enough broth to wisk the whole thing into yogurt consistency. That's a lot runnier then regular mashies. I also added 1/2 a scoop of unflavored GENEPRO Protein (15 gr). One scoop of their protein is like a tablespoon. It's not much at all. OMG, I am in love and my pouch loved it. I want to eat that forever. Warm, yummy deliciousness. I think I need to buy some smaller bowls. My 1/2 cup of mashies looked ridiculous in our regular cereal/soup bowls.

@@layknee I stocked up on cream soups, they were a dollar at pathmark only to find out that they weren't on my plan, so I had to return them. I did boil chicken last night for 3 hours so that it could be extra juicy and then I blended it with a potato so that I could have it for lunch and dinner today. I also blended a few bananas and added genepro to it. I made my goals yesterday and was happy lol, its a bit easier when the liquid diet ends. I can't use any of the aps you guys were mentioning because I still have a blackberry, I'm attached to it lol and haven't gotten a better phone in years. Maybe next year I'll take time to back up my photos and get a new one, but idk lol even my bestfriend said she was gonna get me one and I begged her not to because I really like the simplicity of the blackberry. How are you feeling today?

Got my order of Genepro protein, it's not TOTALLY flavorless but close enough! No more shakes, thank goodness.
-
The taller, thinner canister is Gen 2. I use it religiously in my morning coffee, like @Sai. I was wondering if a man can get his hand into the narrower canister? My first 2 rounds of Genepro came in the short, squat one.
-
@ShelterDog64 Ahh thank you! I didn't know how to tell between the two. My bottle is still the short, squat one, darn hehe.

Almost time for surgery!
RedSalamander replied to jerseymami1988's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My surgery's tomorrow. I got broths, a selection of ready-made and powered protein, some sugar-free vitamin water, those sugar-free water flavor drops (Mio, Crystal light, etc.), sugar-free jello, sugar-free popsicles, cream soups to strain, and sugar-free pudding. Oh, and Genepro unflavored protein. We'll see how it goes! -
Newbie question
ronniethegreat replied to Italian Girl1989's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should get GENEPRO, it's unflavored protein, 30g per 1 tbsp, mixes instantly, can buy on Amazon and you can just add to skim milk, tea, Water, or something else. (I do almond milk). I was doing protein shakes the first few weeks and couldn't take it anymore. Also, my pre-op diet was 7 days, they said it was because I was on the smaller side and didn't need me to really lose that much weight. Everyone is different Also, a lot of people do 6 months because it's required by their insurance, not because of the surgeon's decision Sent from my LGLS990 using the BariatricPal App -
No energy, five days out
MissKay replied to skinnyjeansatlast's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My energy was very, very low for the first 2 weeks post-op. I didn't start drinking anything with Protein powder until after 2 weeks out. I couldn't stand any of the shakes anymore after the pre-op liquid diet, I burned myself out on them and nearly gagged every time so I just had to stay away. Now I take about 6oz of a juice (no HFCS juice) and mix a scoop of GENEPRO (30mg protein) and drink that on the days I get lower protein intake. I can definitely tell the difference on the days I get my protein levels up versus the ones that I get very little in. It's a balancing act and it takes time to master it. I wouldn't worry about exercise or walking ability right now. I don't think I gained the desire for any of that until I was on pureed foods because then I was getting actual sustenance to energize me. -
My sleeve surgery is March 28. I know I will have to supplement with protein powder, I have already purchased genepro powder. How have you fellow vegetarians gotten all your protein? Especially when at liquid & mushy stage? Is it OK if almost all my protein comes from supplement? I would Iike to know what all of you are eating...

I am on day 4 of puree. The first 3 days i seriously felt like i was over stuffing myself. Today i cut it back to 2 2ounce meals and broke them both into 2.. so 4 times.. but i did it during the day only and am finished.. Only i also added genepro (30g) of protein to the food.. half scoop in each.. I also had my protein shake at some point. I may move the shake to lunch, have a scrambled egg for breakfast and leave the second course of protein for dinner. I had to try something different because eating 2 ounces at once.. was way too much and i was getting the pressure in the chest.
