Honest truth about genepro protein powder
higher replied to PittsburghRNYgirl9814's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I really appreciate this thread. I ordered Genepro after reading about how flavorless it is- and it really truly is flavorless - but we should all have legitimate concerns about how much protein is in a serving. I only log it as having 15g of protein per serving instead of 30 because I think the company is full of shit. So much so that now that I've read this thread and others I wouldn't buy it again because I can't even be assured it actually has ANY protein in it. I only use it to reach my protein stretch goal for the day, and not to hit the levels required by my plan. And I should probably just throw it away but hate wasting money haha. -
Honest truth about genepro protein powder
ridgerunner replied to PittsburghRNYgirl9814's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I find all protein shakes disgusting. I use genepro and love it. I can put it in just about anything, food, drinks, hot, cold...except milk based products but that's just personal taste preference. It will make clear drinks look cloudy but if you closed your eyes I bet you could barely tell it's in there. I am STILL pre-op so I cannot attest to blood work but I have read multiple posts in which others have said that their blood work is great while using it and several doctors are now recommending it to their patients. I THINK the science behind the 30g protein in 15g product is that they claim to put it through a process that takes out everything in whey but the pure protein itself. -
I heard about and just ordered some genepro it is suppose to be tastless and lots of protein in a tablespoon. I tasted isopure and it made me sick god it was awefull

I had my sleeve surgery 6/21 and I haven't been able to eat canned tuna yet...the smell is horrid to me, and I was a tuna lover before Initially, you won't be able to get your Protein from food alone, so be prepared with a few alternatives. I liked the Premier Protein ready-to-drink that you can get at costco, chocolate was my go-to once I was on full liquids. I also used the clear Isopure drinks for a couple of weeks...I found the lemonade flavor to be most palatable. I also liked powdered Isopure proteins initially, now I can't tolerate the flavored ones, only the unflavored. My new find is GENEPRO powdered protein...it's flavorless, odorless and can be mixed with anything, hot or cold. 30g protein per scoop makes it a great supplement for me. Also, Syntrax nectars have been a nice option, they come in fruit flavors and mix with Water. They've helped with both my protein AND water goals. Now that I'm eating real food, I'm only using the Premier Protein RTDs as coffee creamer, mixed with a scoop of Genepro. Refried Beans are a great source of protein, thin them with water initially, now I mix with Genepro. I love fresh mexican cheese, so I put a few tablespoons of refried beans in a ramekin, top with queso casera and microwave to warm them up. I really like Pacific mushroom Soup, I chop up a little chicken and add it, the soup moistens the chicken and makes it easier to chew and swallow. A little mashed potato is another yummy option, top with some shredded cheese. And grilled salmon has been the easiest 'real' food I've eaten yet...it's soft and not too fishy, so it's going down easy. I've mostly concentrated on getting 90g protein and drinking 64 oz of Fluid daily...I'm down 25 lbs and feeling really great. Good luck to you!!

Hi everyone. Coming up on day 7 post op. Down 13 pounds. Very little pain and overall feeling good except for one thing- I AM SO HUNGRY! Everyone says we should not be hungry but I know what I'm feeling is physical hunger. All day I think and dream about food. Not even super fatty food. Just a bite of chicken breast or a cucumber would make me happy. I'm dreaming about the purée stage at this point. I've been getting my liquids and Protein in but that only totals to about 200-300 calories a day. I've been adding GENEPRO to almost everything I consume to get my protein in. shakes started making me sick and I'm even allowed yogurt and SF pudding. Taking a PPI twice a day. What should I do??? I don't feel like this is normal. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

For those of you that are having trouble with Protein shakes. I too find them making me feel ill post surgery. I have been using GENEPRO by Musclegen Research for over a week now and it has been great. I put it in almost everything. One tablespoon is 30 grams. So it is easy to get between 60 and 90 grams in a day. I've put it in cottage cheese, yogurt, Soup, mashed potatoes, almost everything! No taste whatsoever!! Seriously it's been great. It was recommended buy my nutritionist. I'm thankful she did. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Getting sick of protein shakes--literally
ShelterDog64 replied to magoosmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm feeling you...my surgery was June 21st as well, and I'm only using RTD Protein as creamer in my decaf coffee. I'm adding a scoop of GENEPRO to my coffee, so that gives me 30g plus maybe 5g from the RTD at Breakfast. I either drink a Syntrax nectar (23g) or add another scoop of Genepro (30g) to a glass of Water with some flavored stevia later in the day, and another to my refried Beans or Soup at lunch or dinner. That gets me to 90 or nearly there, so the third meal is just bonus protein for my day. I'm really impressed with the Genepro product, and I can't tolerate any of the Isopure powders right now :-P -
Getting sick of protein shakes--literally
magoosmom posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on my fourth week post op (June 21 surgery) and I have been doing fine on Protein shakes until the last few days. My diet plan called for two weeks of liquids followed by two weeks of purée (but no meats and no eggs). With two Protein Shakes a day, I was meeting my protein goal (getting close to 70 g). Now I dread drinking them. I get nauseated while drinking and even gagged this morning. I used to be able to drink all 8 oz and now I am lucky to get six in before giving up. I do the purée food at each meal but the only way to get the protein in is through the shakes. So I am pretty frustrated. Any suggestions? I do have lift drinks but not a huge fan and it takes me a long time to work through them. I have also done a scoop of GENEPRO in unsweetened iced tea. Unflavored protien powder
chycky replied to LJDavenport's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would search GENEPRO on this site. I am just not a fan of their weird science. I stand by unjury starter kit it is how I fell in love with their chicken broth. Have only tried their unflavored, chicken, and chocolate. For price and Protein comparison I am sticking with isopure on unflavored (25 vs 21) and premier for chocolate (30g) but love chicken. It has more sodium so I just have one per day. -

JennsJourney I am now averaging between 90 and 100 grams of Protein per day - I have some form of protein shake/ mix for Breakfast everyday....with premier I make a cold caramel coffee drink tastes like a cold caramel macchiato from Starbucks: I take a cup of decaf coffee and about 2-3 tablespoons of sugar free caramel and mix it into a large cup of ice with vanilla or chocolate premier. If I don't have time to make coffee at home I stop at Starbucks and get a grande iced Americano with 2 pumps of SF caramel in a trenta cup and dump the shake in it.....my other go to is a latte: I make a cup of coffee and I will froth 1 cup of skim fair life milk (which has like 13 grams of protein) add a teaspoon of GENEPRO Protein powder (30 grams per tablespoon) and a few tablespoons of some SF syrup yummmmm I swear by both drinks My weight loss is so fickle but I weigh myself everyday, which helps hold me accountable and know what my body didn't appreciate the day before - I find that with the increased protein, and exercise the scale will move, so I average a few pounds a week but I do have my no loss weeks and have considered myself a slower loser .... The weight will continue to come off, just continue your path I also have thin hair and I have some hair loss but I take 10,000mg of Biotin everyday which I think has helped with some loss Overall I am doing well, I wish the weight would just be gone in the morning when I wake but we know that won't happen Hope this helps, let me know if you need me to clarify anything or if you have any other questions -
Late June Sleeve Buddies?
GettingThereOneDay replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! Little late to the group but better late than never I had my surgery June 23rd. I've lost 33 lbs total so far but 15 lbs of that was on my pre op diet. I'm still on liquids till Thursday then I go to puréed foods & I can't wait!! I've had several dreams of real food! I couldn't stomach the premier Protein shakes after surgery they just felt heavy in my stomach so GENEPRO and fair life chocolate milk has been my savior. I'm over the sweet though! And have to admit I may have licked a potato chip just for some salty goodness! I know it's horrible but I didn't eat it! Glad to join the group and loved reading all your posts! This company was in litigation for its Protein products not delivering protein promised. google them and search GENEPRO on here. I agree it tastes great, but when I read up and then looked at their website (which has portion that like their bodybuilding web forum comments) has broken English, strange claims, and things like "natural steroids" I decided my personal choice was to stick to Isopure or unjury. And, the 30 grams protein from 15 grams of product was another too good to be true.

Finally growing tired on chocolate premier shakes. Going to switch to genepro for a few weeks and come back. What shakes do you guys prefer?

Which is another reason to aim to get as much of your protein requirement from food as possible. Of course early put it isn't (and for many of us we continue to need to supplement) but even then I try to get my protein from many sources even the supplements, in case one isn't all it claims to be, like the Quest bars and the GENEPRO. I figure if I am not relying on that one source too heavily I'm still good because of all the other sources.

I can only say how genepro helped me. I went back 2 work 2 weeks after surgery and genepro saved my life because it was the only thing I could keep down and my blood pressure started to get better after I began to take this and I still take it.

Genepro - too good to be true?
Bufflehead replied to debd80's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The creators of Genepro live in an alternate physical universe from the one I live in . . . in my universe, a gram is a standard physical measurement of weight, and you can't get 30 grams of protein from 20 or so grams of mysterious powder. Genepro must come from somewhere with some sort of alternate quantum physics? But I live in my universe, so Genepro isn't going to make sense for me here. -
Do a search on the forum. I can't remember the specifics but there are many discussions with some legit concerns about the science behind Genepro.

I use Genepro and love it, no taste and it mixes really well in cold or hot water. Always feel full after. The best thing to do is try different ones and decide what works best for you..

I was sleeved on May 23, 2016 and I had a really hard time in the beginning getting my Protein in. I spent tons of money trying new shakes and powders hoping to find one that didn't make me throw up. And thanks to this site, someone mentioned GENEPRO. It claimed that one scoop (1 tablespoon) is equal to 30 grams of protein. I was elated! No more 1/4 cup scoops of nasty powder to get my protein in! However, I'm a researchy (is that a word?) kind of gal and I decided to read up about it online and there is no hard evidence to back up their claim. I found a site where the actual developer commented on body building threads about the validity of its product, they also had a lawyer telling random internet people to "cease and desist" slander against their product. What legitimate company responds to negative reviews by having their lawyer telling people to stop or even scours random web forums? I kept looking online and found a YouTube video where the creator of Genepro talks about his powder.... This video is done in his house, in his kitchen, with low quality equipment. That's odd. He talks about how well his powder dissolves and how it doesn't change the texture of whatever it's mixed with, but if you take 1 tablespoon of any other kind of Protein Powder, it mixes just as well... Hmmm... So, if his process of making protein molecules smaller to take up less space is actually legit, why don't more people, especially in the body building industry, use it? I'm skeptical now... My plan says 13-15 grams of sugar per meal. You won't feel well if you have too much. Avoid most of the "fake" or disguised sugars. More than 5g of fat should be okay since we're allowed nuts, cheese, etc. I stick to Fairlife FF milk for coffee and Genepro protein unflavored for my yogurt, oatmeal, tea, yams and coffee.

Late June Sleeve Buddies?
Medic5301 replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maggie hope all is well with you. I'm doing pretty well I think. The GENEPRO arrived Thursday and I've been mixing it with cottage cheese or with mashed potatoes. There is no noticeable taste. So it has made my 60 gram goal easy. Tuesday I can move to the next phase of foods. On a different note. I have noticed that I have 2 incisions still very much hurt, but only when I lay on my side. Not sure what that is all about. Hopefully I'm not developing adhesions. I hope everyone else is doing well! Enjoy the weekend!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
