  1. Had my revision April 27th. My band was done around 10 years ago. Lost around 80lbs but all of a sudden couldn't eat at all. Got terrible reflux , couldn't get it adjusted right . Had it replaced but it was never right. Threw up everyday day for the next ten years. Had to loosen it and started to slowly gain weight, eventually gaining it all back while continuing to throw up. After a couple of really bad days of throwing up and chocking to the point I couldn't breathe I went to the surgeon and he recommended bypass. I was terrified, I also read the horror stories. The night of the surgery I was able to start walking and next day drinking liquids. When I first started to eat, I was waiting to feel the food going down and the tightness from the band but it never happened. It's been around 6 weeks and I am truly grateful to my surgeon for recommending this. I can go out with my friends and family without the embarrassment and pain of the band . I eat slowly and small portions. You get very full from small amounts of food which is what you want. If you eat a little too much you feel "very full" and a little uncomfortable but I haven't experienced dumping or pain...I also haven't eaten anything with sugar, no Desserts or white breads or Pasta. Non of the torture of the band. I've lost almost 40 lbs and have around 30 or 40 to go but I have hope. Good luck with your journey! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Your thoughts.....

Well, compared to the "Big Likelihood of dying from a heart attack if I remain fat, or the big likelihood of major complications from from the VS or GB, the band is a walk in the park. The problem is Steph you made an assumption in your question. That assumption is that there is "a big likely hood of having to have a revision or it just plan removed" when there is simply no hard data to support that. Are there risks? Yup, are the risks much less than other forms of WLS? Yup. Would I do it again in a heartbeat? Yup. I have nothing against other forms of WLS, but they simply aren't for me. I am willing to take the band, with it's track record of lower, slower loss and fewer complications over the higher loss rate and higher complication rate of the other WLS.

    I am there..

    Revised my thoughts from yesterday.
  5. I was run off of another site years ago when I started complaining about my band not working and sharing my frustration. Some of the happy campers there didn't want to hear anything but good news. Truth is, no WLS fits everybody. I started feeling like I didn't belong there and left that site and stayed away for years. I returned only recently to learn more about a revision .I wish I had hung in there and not let my voice be silenced. Maybe I wouldn't have waited so long to revise and maybe my story could have helped someone else.
  6. Well, considering that I'm 2 days post-op from band to sleeve revision...yeah, I'd have WLS all over again. I was happy with the band for almost 7 yrs and expect to be happy with the sleeve. I've BEEN living my life eating smaller amounts, having to monitor what goes in the mouth, etc..but as the band stopped "helping," the weight was creeping up. Plus, I'd had a lot of scar tissue form and reflux, so it was time for the band to go. But you know...even WITH my prior experience with WLS...having to do a month of liquids, etc...it's not easy. I don't truly want to eat anything and KNOW that the weightloss is important, but there's still a bit of grieving. Accepting that I still needed help, that I simply can't eat whatever I want and still maintain the weight I want, etc...WLS will never be an easy "out" for anyone or any easy road. It just makes it doable.
  7. Who did your surgery? Where? I read about someone else on here who also felt no restriction and was always hungry - and when another surgeon checked them out, nearly their entire original stomach had been left intact. They had it revised and are having great success with it now.
  8. I was a revision from lap band, my surgery was Dec 10th 2012 so I'm about 4months out. Recovery had its ups and downs, I hated every creamy Protein drink, only found one I could stomach (no pun intended lol) but after 2months on them I can't drink any Protein drinks with out wanna to punch someone haha. I am still sore around my incision near my navel, makes it very hard to work out and run. But I do when I can. I'm a slow loser but started out with a lower weight since I was a revision from evil band complications. Dec weight 198.5, current 169. I have more I need to lose since I'm only 5'3" but am healthier now and with out all the sickness I had for 5 years with the band. I tolerate food better now and still can't eat certain things but its bad stuff I have no business eating (ie fried foods, sugary ect) I can finally handle my coffee again and can eat meat, though certain ones I handle better than others. You'll have your moments of regret that is VERY fleeting when your eating a delicious meal and its that moment that 3bites makes you full and sick to your stomach. Then I get mad because I want to be able to eat lol, then their are days that I can eat a nice plate of crawfish lol. It's hit and miss. But over all best decision I ever made, I really wish I would have gotten this originally but having the demon band hell has helped me know how to eat proper size portions, chew chew chew and appreciate how this is a true tool and gift to have had done.
  9. Hi everyone! Had RNY in March of 2004 at 239 lbs. At one year anniversary weighed in at 128, weight loss of 111 lbs, and looked very sick. Eventually came up 12 lbs, leveled off and at 140 was soo happy. Maintained for a while and over the past 2yrs I've gained 32 lbs and now weigh 172!!! I go to the gym 3-4 x wk and joined Weight Watchers Points Plus. Lost 6, then it came back. I can't seem to get it off and very discouraged. Has anyone heard of the 5 Day Pouch Test? I started it today. I just can't go back to my old self. Very down. Anyone have any suggestions? My surgeon retired and I found that no other dr wanted to follow his work, why, I don't know yet. Finally got an approval to be seen by the new dr's at my hospital and going in after our family vacations next month. I've been trying to refamiliarize myself with the rules, do's and dont's and can see where I've strayed. So glad I found this forum. Really could use some inspiration. I've also been reading on revisions, a shot that will make your pouch tighter, etc... Any help would be so very much appreciated. Thanks!

Kareyquilts TT, BL, Lipo & BA

Karey - One thing you might want to ask your doctor about when it comes to your revision is a reverse tummy tuck. Instead of a vertical incision it is a horizontal incsions that falls just at your bra line. Then they pull the skin UP instead of down. That is what she will be doing whenever I decide to go in and get a breast lift. She said that was the best thing to do when you have extra skin up top. The reason I had to have the vertical incision was because I had so much extra skin on the sides. Just thought I would give you that info! Thanks for all your support on my thread!

    Had my surgery today!

Started my pre-op diet today. My surgery is July 30 and I am a bit (well a lot) nervous. After 2 failed lap band attempts I am concerned about the scar tissue and whether or not the doc will be able to complete the revision to bypass. I am also questioning whether or not I am doing the right thing. I already failed twice, I just don't want to fail again.
  12. I am a few days away and so excited and nervous all at the same time. Thank you all for sharing and keeping us updated. It helps so much for us who are waiting and have questions. My surgery is a revision from sleeve to bypass due to Hiatal Hernia which my surgeon will repair, GERD and never getting to goal with some weight gain. 2017 HW 284 I’m 5’3 LW after sleeve 194 after I juiced for three days to break the 200’s. Then two years ago I gained up to 224 and I turned vegetarian. Got down to 187. Then COVID hit. I have gained and lost the same 30 lbs for the last few years. Now my current weight is 225. My revision is set for Thursday, 2/17. I am hopeful all my efforts will get me to goal this time. I’m scared to end up the same. Wish me luck.

Funny about the surgeons. I don't know what all will need to be done. My ticker shows -131. My real weight loss from my highest known weight is -158. And I actually think I was as high as 350 at one point so that would put it more like -169. Wow I've not looked at it like that. I think I need a minute. Okay, the point is my skin is STRETCHED beyond reason. My arms definately. Pannis, very much needs to go, a TT would be great. My back side, I don't know that I want a full lower body lift, but I probably need it. My thighs need skin removed too. I had a breast reduction 6 years ago, the girls are still a D now, but it needs revised. The fourth boobies, under my armpits need to be removed. and I'd love to get my chin skin taken off. No other face stuff though. That's a lot of surgery. Whew.
  14. This topic is a month old, but moved to the top. I have been in maintenance since February - maintenance scares me more then anything! So far, it is going great!!!! I don't want to make it sound easy, it is not. Life keeps wanting to draw me into eating too much of the wrong foods, tempting me to skip working out etc.... but I remain determined. For those of you planning a revision, or still in the sleeve weight loss journey - I just want to share that it is possible to be successful as a revision. There were several ladies who used to post to this forum that lost 100+ after being revised and they gave me the courage to "believe". Like many of you, I felt like I was the one person on the planet that can fail at losing weight no matter what the surgery. Truth is, any of us can not do great, or we can do awesome. Alot of it is in our own personal control. I found a NUT/dietician that helped me so much and I learned to change things up. Sometimes you need to eat more, need to eat less, reduce carbs, increase carbs... shake it up. Change your exercise routines... listen to your body. Don't be afraid of "only" losing 10# a month. How the heck do you think I lost 150# in 14 months? By losing in the general ballpark of 10 a month!!!! Some months way more... some way less.... be in this for the long haul. Hope it is going great for all of you.
  15. Yesterday I posted some links with helpful information for those seeking revision published by a very well respected revision surgeon along with his comments about Lapband. So often we who have complications are told its our fault, the band doesn't fail, you overrate, ate too fast, didn't chew enough, ate the wrong foods, didn't call the doctor soon enough, etc. Dr Kesheshian's opinion of the band gives those who have complications some relief that the band can fail, cause lifelong complications and its not our fault. This forum should be a safe place to discuss complications, free of criticism, judgement and bullying. If you are having no complications, by all means, read the posts, but please abstain from telling anyone they shouldn't post negative threads. I'm in need of some support too. I'm also trying to help others like me reach out for help with their band troubles. They're not going to do that if every time someone posts on here, everyone joins in, attempting to discredit them. Right now, I'm scared, anxious and trying everything possible to keep my band. I don't want to lose the tool that helped me lose 90 lb, but I also cannot in good conscience recommend it to someone investigating WLS. My story isn't unique. Motility issues are more and more common in long term band patients. Most of the people I know who encouraged me to get my band have had complications and have had their bands removed/revised. It's scary when it happens to you, especially when you didn't cause the problems by noncompliance. I hope none of you ever experiences this misery...
  16. I am so happy to see this thread!! I am a band to sleeve revision. Had my band for 2 years and had my revision on the 15th of November 2012. I have lost 30 lbs since my revision. It's kind of upsetting because if I try to stay with 800 calories I feel sick like I am going to pass out. They ran all kinds of blood test and can't find anything wrong. Even took a look at my sleeve and everything seems fine. My surgeon says its all me and I need to stick my 800 calories. My PCP tells me to up my calories to 1000 to 1200 so that I don't feel sick and avoid the possibly of fainting. I honestly don't know what to do sometimes. I get hungry some days and others I have to remind my self to eat. I hope that as the months come by I will be able to find some kind of middle ground with my sleeve and at the same time satisfy the doctor so I don't get in trouble.

    40's New Beginnings

I'm 42. Had RNY revision on 6/28. Lost 22 lbs. its slow but it's moving. I'm afraid to fail so I have to keep up my routine. I try to avoid sitting at the dinner table when the family is eating. It's just hard on me. But it's getting easier daily! We will be successful at this!
  18. I had my revision Dec 28 .I am still on full liquids.I suggest strained Soups.Applesauce at this point is a Nono.... Are you adding Protein powder to your drinks/shakes,cream of wheat? It is too early for you to be eating any solids..,be careful.
  19. I am 7 months out. I didn't have revision surgery...just the sleeve. I can eat anything. If I eat more than a cupcake I feel queasy. I don't dump but definitely don't feel good so I don't push it. I also find that steak doesn't feel so good in my stomach either. Like a big lump. So I usually just have skirt steak and that does fine. ~LA

    Pain

Hello all! I had my first RNY and hernia repair on June 13, 2012, a revision RNY and gallbladder removal on July 11, 2012. My main incision is on my right side. It is a nasty looking one, too! Yesterday, I tried moving a chair at a meeting that I quickly realized was too heavy for me to lift. Someone moved it for me and I sat down. About 10-20 minutes later, I started getting stabbing pains about 1-2 inches below my main incision. Has anyone ever experienced this? I don't want to call my doctor just yet because: 1) I'm tired of bugging him and don't want to if this is a normal pain and 2) I don't have anymore time available to leave work (for x-rays and whatnot). The pain worsens when I try to bend and getting in the car is an absolute nightmare.

    SO NERVOUS

Just had the band out wasn't fortunate enough to have the revision at the same time. Dr won't do them together, his excuse, he wants the stomach to heal. So jumping through hoops again but only for three months. Hoping for surgery in September. The amazing thing about removal surgery, didn't even fill the pain prescription, I really didn't have any pain but sure have some nasty scars. Just a tender area where there isn't a scar but it is going away slowly. Will be posting more when I have the bypass. Trying not to be too ansy about it or lets say after the surgery is done. I'm a pro with surgeries it is what comes after.
  22. Aurelia

    Port Infection

He hates the band and is weary of all the complications he's been seeing lately. He's had to remove a lot lately. He's also concerned about this spontaneous infection and says that the band could be encouraging it. He says a film grows on the band and bacteria can grow on it. I've also been on 4 different antibiotics and none of them seem to be working. This is the first major issue I've had with it. I wanted a revision to sleeve but my insurance says my BMI of 20 doesn't qualify me for more bariatric surgery.
  23. KateP

    Port Infection

@@Aurelia interesting. Sorry this has happened to you but glad there is no erosion. Should make healing much quicker. Why did he decide to remove the whole band and not just the port? Let us know how you get on, best wishes for a speedy recovery, do you plan to revise to another surgery type?

thank you so much oregon daisy! this was quite helpful.. .My pleasure! I love being able to give anyone who wants the information all the details about what makes Dr. Aceves such a perfect choice when looking for a surgeon.
