Yogurt and pudding..what stage?
Letsgetgoing2018 replied to Letsgetgoing2018's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks. I’m tolerating my protein shakes now. Started day four as instructed. Can I try yogurt or pudding? I also was to try Bisque or creamed soup. -
Greetings from Seattle. I am banding in 5 days.

CONGRATS!!! I was banded on the same day you were. I was lucky enough to have my insurance cover it. My surgeon allowed yogurt from the day after surgery. I guess it is just based on who you see. -
Post op day 4, feeling unsure?
mrsfrancis replied to little_mrs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes I am on full liquid now for about 3 weeks. I am suppose to have cream soups strained and yogurt the Greek yogurt was not suppose to start in 3 weeks when I move to soft foods. I just don't feel different. -
Look on Amazon I get my protein mixes there. I like the plain Isopure for adding to juice, broth, sf koolaid, yogurt and sf pudding.

I don't like Greek yogurt but its healthy.

2-3 weeks out, What are you eating?
Tomojac replied to freelee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had RNY June 10. I made the cheese bake this week. It was very good. I also have refried beans with a little cheese, cauliflower, applesauce, greenbeans, and yogurt and pudding. The next thing I'm going to try is roast beef hash. I've been trying to add something new every few days to see how it goes. Still can't do eggs though. -
I think I may have to keep the Greek yogurt out of the house. I scarfed 3 of them like it was cheesecake.

Hi all, I had my sleeve on 1/18/11 and am still on soft liguid diet (1/2 cup yogurt and cream Soups for B/L/D and Protein powders with milk in between) until 2/8 per my surgeon's protocol. 20 lbs lost thus far. I am so sick of the dairy , Protein powder and milk that I gag getting it down, so can't get all of the food in that I am supposed to. When I tried to force down a Protein shake yesterday morning I felt sick all day and couldn't eat anything the rest of the day. How bad is it if you are not eating all they say? How bad would it be to move to pureed a few days early? Also I also have lots of pre-existing back and arthritic pain and so am not moving like I should. Liguid Tylenol is so sweet and syrupy I gag. Does anyone know when it is safe to swallow actual pills like tylenol and ibuprofen? One of the reasons I had the sleeve was because you can take some anti-inflammatories after surgery. I am asking my doctor too of course, but they want me to wait as long as possible and I am not sure how long that is! It would be great to hear from others with experience!!

I had my two week post-op visit today and made my NP VERY happy! After not losing anything at my visit last week, I managed a loss of eight pounds this week! I thought she was going to start doing a happy dance around the room! And while I was extremely happy, there was no happy dance for me. I had just had 20 surgical staples removed and moving that much kinda hurts right now. But I am doing happy dance moves in my head! and cartwheels! and etc! I also had my food plan advanced to the next stage. I still have to drink 2-3 4oz "Protein supplements" (4ozs of protein shake) and I still can have my eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, and shredded low fat cheese, I now get to add MEAT!!! chicken, fish, turkey and soy products! I made a tiny bit of tuna salad when I got home (it was yummy!) and for Christmas tomorrow, I'm making some little turkey meatballs! I can hardly wait! I hope all of you are having a very Blessed and Merry Christmas!

3 Months Out And Sick To Stomach
royboy replied to crazycatlady8's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too have trouble with meat, any kind of meat! I ate some venison sausage the other day, mind you a skinny piece and it didn't sit well. Feels like minor pain or upset stomach is my best way to describe it. Even fish does this to me. I ate some Soup my wife made last nite, has burger in it, same feeling so I gave the rest to the dog. The up side of this is my cholesterol is down, way down. LOL I do hope the feeling gets better with time though. Seems I only eat for energy anymore which in my head is far better than the way I used to eat. Yogurt, cottage cheese, creamy Soups all go down good, so I guess I eat more of those until my stomach tells me differently? I feel better that I'm not alone. LOL If that makes any sense. Pre op weight 316 down 70 pounds since Dec 5th. -
So I lied. I sometimes just don't have the energy to log on everyday and type as I sit all day at work looking at a computer. But anyway, so far so good. I went to Wal-Mart and got a scale and according to it, I lost 3 more lbs for a total of 13.That's okay, not great in my mind as I am consuming only about 600 calories a day. But then again, it's been 2 weeks so that is pretty good for 2 weeks. I really really want some food but thankfully the dr. allowed me to add yogurt, v8 juice and anything else as long as it is liquid. So prayerfully I can make it through 1 more weekend then on to Pureed. I can't wait to eat refried beans and potatoes or whatever else I'm allowed. Later, Rumar

Mushies already? (1 wk post op)
fullhandsfullheart posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved last Monday, so tomorrow will be 1 wk. The class I went to, and the instructions they sent me home with both said full liquids 10-14 days, then start mushies.... Well..... my surgeon just called to check on me. He said I can go ahead and start mushies now. What? LOL I mean, trust me, I want something besides liquid. But it threw me for a loop because that wasn't what I was taught. He said to start with yogurt. Anyone else start mushies 1 wk out? Or was it more like 2 wks? I'm not sure what to do. -
Question for the sleevers over 6 months +
BriDawn replied to ladylaura's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not that far out but I think I can answer you just as well. In the first two weeks, I was miserable. I roamed these boards trying to see what people farther out were eating to gain some hope for myself. At two months out, I am SO happy. I can eat pretty much anything. I've had issues with some things like soft bread (toasted is fine) or ground beef (homemade burgers HURT). I still have a snack every now and then, like chips or frozen yogurt. But I can easily moderate my portions now. I'm working out like a crazy person (loved it before surgery so love it more now!). I'm down 31lbs and have about 40lbs more to go. It does get easier. And most people can tolerate all foods eventually. -
Question for the sleevers over 6 months +

Have you tried Greek yogurt? Fascinating amount of protein in such a lil' container - I've found it to be helpful in my "full liquids" stage (ONE MORE DAY THANK GOD!). Luckily, yogurt is on my list of approved foods at the moment. I'm not a fan of the plain yogurt, but the flavored ones are divine! -
Wow, only 20 pounds doesn't sound possible if you are carefully following the instructions from your surgeon. You should be eating so much less now that your stomach is so much smaller. That alone should have meant weight loss of more than 20 pounds. I know everyone is different, but if you stuck strictly to the healthy eating and eating habits prescribed by your doctor or bariatric program, I would think you'd be experiencing more weight loss. You should check with your doctor. Something doesn't seem right. Have you included exercise since your surgery? What are you eating on a daily basis and in what portions? Definitely food log if you are having issues with eating. See what quantities and portions your eating on a daily basis and adjust where necessary. I was sleeved August 27 and I've lost about 75 pounds so far. I have a Protein shake and Chobani 100 greek yogurt for Breakfast, the only about a 1/2 cup of food for lunch (because that's about all that will fit without making me feel very uncomfortable). I eat a half cup of cottage cheese or have a meat and cheese stick roll-up of dinner. I would estimate that my calorie intake per day is right around, or just less than, 1000 calories...mostly protein. Are you also taking Vitamins?

I am 5 1/2 weeks post-op and according to my diet plan should be able to enjoy some small meals. This however, is not the case. I am stuck with yogurt, cottage cheese and the occasional small bowl of cereal. I get sick every time I have ground meat...I don't eat fast and am barely getting a bite in. What am I doing wrong? Suggestions?

You have to build up to it. Getting in both my Protein and fluids was a challenge fore me at first until I figured out how to do both. I was most successful starting the day with a high Protein shake. One scoop of either CVS whey protein + a half to a whole cup of Fage 0% greek yogurt using ¼ cup of Water and lots of ice gets me 30 - 40gms of protein. Using the ice and water works towards my fluids and keeps the shake from being too thick. The yogurt and water keep it from being sickly sweet. Even in the very beginning I could drink this in under 2 hours. This means I had the rest of the day to get in the rest of my protein and time to drink some water without feeling like I'm drinking all day.

On the meal plan to lose 15 lbs before my surgery, and feel like I'm doing something wrong. I do my protein for bfast, yogurt and fruits as snack, turkey sandwich at lunch and I figure out somethig for dinner. But I'm going to bed hungry and waking up at like 3 am hungry. I wanna stick to it but I'm dying to chew. Any suggestions other than yogurt? Like a cup of dry cereal or just SOMETHING..hate feeling hungry at night

Week 2, and am I drinking too much too fast?
liguy posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone, I had my surgery on 3/3, and the first few days were quite rough for me, but every day has been much better. Isopure tasted awful for me the first day, and I mixed some gatorade g2, and it totally fixed the tast. As of Monday I started full liquids. I am a vegetarian, so I don't eat chick broth. What I have been taking is non-fat greek yogurt, and milk add some salt, and make a smoothie (similar to indian drink called lassi), I have enjoyed these preoperatively, and still enjoy them now. I also started making tomato Soup, and lentil soup. I am able to tolerate a decent amount of these item, and enjoy them so much I actually want more. I keep on hearing that you get full very fast, and you lose appetite. I'm not very full fast, and I want more. I also have to work on taking these fluids at a much slower pace. I"m afraid that fact i'm enjoying these fluids along with taking down the fluids pretty fast, I may be stretching my pouch? How much fluid's do you take in how much time? -
Favorite "fast foods" redux

Sonic makes a junior Breakfast burrito that is egg, cheese, meat. The eggs are actually light and fluffy and the junior size is more than I can finish -- I would say at least two eggs. The menu says sausage, but I generally ask for bacon or ham and they are happy to do it. My kids say I eat it like a banana, I peel the tortilla off as I eat and dispose of it. Wawa gas station has great options if you are lucky enough to have one. Cups of yogurt, cheese sticks, fresh fruit, cheese and pepperoni mini plates. They also make awesome breakfast burritos all day with any veggie fillings you'd like. Their subs are also very good and you can load them up with all the veggies for free. I order the 4" and remove the top half of the bread. I still can't finish it. -
I make sure I meet the recommended fiber intake - 14 grams per 1000 calories of food. I track it on MyFitnessPal. Some of this is from supplements (I use the Equate Sugar Free fiber powder -- put a couple teaspoons into protein shakes, yogurt, etc.) but most is from natural food sources. I haven't had any problems with constipation - I'm an every day kind of person.

Something nagging me
hugsamber replied to feedyoureye's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I eat chicken and turkey on occasion before I had my sleeve. No red meat at all though. I don't normally like eggs too much either. I was a little concerned with my protein as well especially since my kaiser doesn't approve of protein shakes. So far chicken sits heavy in my sleeve, when I have done pureed chicken salad, but egg salad pureed was fine. I have had a little milk and did not have any problems. Yogurt and greek yogurt went down easily also. I think that you will do fine. It just takes time to find out what works well for your body. -
I have some collar bone gas also. I am clear liquids for a week. I can't start eating yogurts and shakes until week 2. I'm going to go and get liquid Tylenol and more gas x. I think re other pain reliever is wrong. I went had pedicure and that beating from the massage chair felt so good and helped loosen some of it

Sick of Sweets!!
LapBandReady replied to ~Bridgette~'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there. Not sure if I am doing things the right way, and I certainly hope so. Was banded on Oct. 31st, and as you said, have one week to go on liquids.. Monday, speaking to my caseworker in Dr. Naim's office, she let me know that I can go to Soups, sugar free Jello and sugar free pudding and popsicles, and yogurt. I am not big on sweets myself, but the soup was good news. I went and bought 20 cans of soup. So here is how my day goes: when I wake up: I drink a half EAS nutrition shake (strawberry cream)..this is the tastiest, less gross one i could find, and a small cup of juice get to work and sip Water slowly in the morning. at lunch, fix a can of campbells soup (tomato or one of the cream of's). i mix a can of soup with a cup of milk for creaminess (not tomato) I went to the 99 cent store and bought 4 strainers to dump my nuked soup into so the bits of chicken or potato are caught and dump them...now it gets good for me. I am a sucker for lemon pepper. i love lemon pepper a LOT. so i add a couple squirts of lemon juice to the cream of chicken and a few shakes of Lawry's lemon pepper to it..the lemon juice you can find in the produce department..little plastic yellow bottle with a name like "Italia"... I also add a few shots of the lemon juice and some pepper to the tomato soup. Gives it a nice taste. Again, these are my ideas only and I wasn't coached on whether i should be doing this, so i am not doing the same. Just giving some tips on having a liquid diet not focused around jello, pudding and popsicles. Another thing I did, but I don't suggest this. If you go out to eat with friends or family, order the soup, but ask the waiter to strain it to keep objects out. Throw and extra couple dollars tip their way and they will have no problem doing this...I got a strange look from the guy at Chili's, but I explained and he was more than eager to help me out and make sure I had no little bits of food in my soup and was cream soup only. Hope my tips help, and more important...hope my tips are not more harmful more than helpful. MAKE SURE you check with your surgeon's office before attempting anything I am describing doing.
