Day 20 and I'd really, really like to chew food again! I'm so over Soup, yogurt, Protein drinks, and eggs. I rarely get hungry, but when I do, it's not for Premier Protein shakes. And I eat such small portions that I can't get motivated to explore options...I hope I pull out of this funk soon! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Question About The Lap Band Green Zone
Shelley64 replied to cbreeden28's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The "green zone" takes some time to get to. I don't think many people are there on the first fill. I was banded 1/11/11 and I don't feel like I hit the green zone until November. I'm a really slow loser but my doctor was happy with a few pounds in 5-6 weeks. I wasn't happy with it but he was. I got a fill in Oct and honestly felt like it was too tight because I'd eat just a few bites and feel stuck. Well, I finally figured out, I was confusing stuck with full. It take a while to wrap your head around the fact of just how little food we need. You're probably still eating with your eyes plus you're new to all this and food, the band, dieting, exercising is all you can think about. Getting hungry a couple hours after you eat doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong. Some people can got 4-5 hours between and some can only go 2-3 hours. EVERYBODY IS DIFFERENT. Don't get caught up in how much fluid one person has in their band compared to you. I was trying to stick with 3 meals a day and maybe a little something in the evening but that just didn't work. I'm better off with a little snack between breakfast and lunch because I can only get a shake down in the morning. I'm really tight in the am so a shake is all I can do plus I love them and it's easy at work. I'll have a little cheese or part of a chobani yogurt a couple hours later if I'm feeling a little hungry. There is an awesome website that you should check out. It really explains why the band works, how the placement around your stomach is important, why eating slow gets you to eat less. Damn....I had the site saved in my favorites but now it's gone. I'll post it as soon as I track it down. It's got some great info on it. Sorry -

Many questions...need answers :)
Cocoabean replied to JennyGrace's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome! There is a pregnancy forum here at LBT. I believe most women get their bands unfilled while preggers to allow for more nutrition. Sometimes bands need to be replaced. You can search pubmed for studies on it. It is an implanted device, and something to be considered. Tell your surgeon you have worked with nutritionists in the past. I only had to do one consultation to be sure I understood how I should eat post-banding. As she is in my surgeon's office, it was part of an insurance-covered office visit with my surgeon. How much you will be able to eat will depend on your restriction level. I am in maintenance mode now. I eat about 1500-1700 calories a day. A meal for me is about 3 oz of solid Protein, 1/2 cup of veggies, and some starch. I do not eat low-carb. I still eat all the foods I used to with the exception of very soft doughy breads (they get stuck) and white meat chicken (also gets stuck). I still have my junk food treats. Just not as often, and not as much. If I cannot eat solid protein, my surgeon wants me to come in for an unfill. It is unacceptable to him for me to rely on Protein shakes and "slider" foods--foods that slide right on through the band. Those are foods like Soups, yogurt, and highly processed junk like chips, Cookies, ice cream, etc. Advice for the early stages...don't get caught up in Last Supper Syndrome. you WILL eat your favorites again. There is no need to gorge yourself on food like you will never eat it again. My diet is pretty "normal" now. Except when my stomach is irritated from a bad stuck episode, most people watching me would not know that I've had weight loss surgery. Don't stock up on boodles of protein shakes until you know that your surgeon wants you on them long-term. I bought a bunch of the stuff after reading on here how many people continue to use them after banding only to find out that my surgeon doesn't want me using them. He wants me eating my calories. I was only allowed them during the full liquid phase of post-op. This forum is a great place for support. My surgeon has support groups, but his are too late in the evening for me to attend as I start work early in the morning. I hang out here a lot and credit it with with my continued success. It helps me keep my head in the game. In real life I only know one other banded person. It's great to come here and be able to connect with peeps who "get it!" -
No Seminar - Vitamins - Ocean/Swim - 9 days post: HELP
GassyGurl replied to AlabamaSleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We were told no swimming for 2 weeks. My incisions are totally closed by day 10 (with 1 exception). My plan was always to use 3m waterproof bandaids if I wanted to swim earlier. I have no pain either and feel great. We start vitamins at 2 weeks. I'm using store brand Flintstones complete for now, but they are sort of gross. I wonder if name brand tastes better? I have the calcium, but I drink a lot of milk and yogurt, so I'm not sure if I will actually take it. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app -
No unless you have additional symptoms. They told me the zero yogurt was the best.

I'm Scared of My Pre-Op Diet
Italiancurves replied to Kyrie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok so most doctors recommend 60-90 grams of protein. Your shake had better have at least 30 gr. and you'll be eating alot of yogurt (dannon lite n fit Greek yogurt /x the protein) or you could do one ISOPURE clear liquid protein -40 grams of pro per bottle. It's filling satisfying and you'd have your recommended protein to keep u healthy strong and within your doctors guidelines. U wouldn't even have to do much yogurt if any, if u drink an ISOPURE. Tastes kinda like Gatorade. Available at GNC or online at ISOPURE or GNC. I personally would limit the fruit juice, the calories add up fast unless u do V8. Splash lite which is 1/2 the cals of reg juice. When do u start your pre op diet? I'm halfway thru mine. -
Surgery date! 10/19
lizonaplane replied to Rozzjozz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Get some protein shakes, broth soups, and other liquids you're permitted to eat/drink for the first week after surgery because you will not be able to lift much and these are heavy to get at the store. I ate a lot of Dannon Light and Fit Greek Yogurt because it is high protein. I ate the flavors that didn't have "fruit bits" in them (vanilla, toasted coconut vanilla, caramel, boston creme, banana...). I also strained Tom Yum and Hot and Sour soups I bought from restaurants nearby and this was amazing, because I didn't care for canned broth at all (yes, I could have made my own broth, but I need more flavor than broth provides). Start walking at least 10-15 minutes a few times a day, even just a slow pace. I was told it helps with recovery. Maybe buy some water flavor packets (stuff like crystal light, although I personally don't like that brand). Make sure it doesn't have caffeine, as some flavors do. We aren't permitted caffeine 2 weeks before to 4 weeks after surgery. Do all your laundry, cleaning, and dishes before your surgery, as this is hard to do right after surgery, as bending is hard. Get all the prescriptions you need. Taking pills after surgery is harder, but can be done. -

almost dumb question- PUREED foods- HELP ME!
Mag3289 replied to mi75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I completely understand. I was so excited to get to the pureed stage. But now just thinking about food makes snarl my nose. I'm eating a lot of yogurt, soup, and refried beans. -
@@aclinton16 - Try dipping apples in your PB instead. As for veg I would go for chopped spinach instead of broccoli or green Beans. Spinach has more Iron and Protein and is not as fiborous as broccoli or green beans. Fiborous veg can produce gas and be harder to digest. Your nutritionist should be able to give you a list of recommended foods. I also eat a lot of soft scrambled eggs or finely chopped hard boiled eggs. In my egg salad I use half plain greek yogurt and half mayo or skip the mayo altogether and use a bit of avocado which is a healthier fat.

rking replied to adcovington87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Me too!!!! I have felt great till friday. 19 days post op. Now I feel like crap for three days. Lightheaded. Grouchy as hell. Tired of powders. Ugh. Not very hungry. Sick of soup. Sick of yogurt. -
Hi There Hang in there! I went to GNC and purchased the whey Protein powder and when blending added fruits and yogurt to change the consistency and taste. Try it - it's pretty scrumptous. I never had a problem with the Protein shakes - in fact, I still enjoy one once in a while to ensure I maintain my protein level. Good Luck Odette

Feeling Insatiably Hungry Almost All The Time
Blue Sky replied to Rockhound6165's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Make sure you are on the solid proteins if your diet allows. Yogurts, ricotta and all that are slider foods. I was told by docs office to get solid proteins in with three meals and that has made all the difference. I think we are still figuring this thing out as I had my surgery 2,weeks before u... Learning what works and what doesn't. Drinking water helps also and I had to up my carb intake ( complex) to curb hunger and do more exercise to speed metabolism and burn it off. -
i hope nobody will shoot me with what i ll tell you but i think one week of clear liquids is enough! i could't stay 2 weeks in liquids diet so the 2nd week i added some yogurt and cottage cheese in my diet.

I can’t take it. I can’t consume one more chemical food-like substance! Protein shakes... blah! The thought of them make me nauseous. Creamed soup? Gross, SF pudding? Why? There is no nutritional value. I’m 11 days post op. Feel fantastic! I’m getting in my water, and I can drink normally. I’m on full liquids but all I really want is plain water. I have had some Greek yogurt, but two bites and I’m full. I’m lucky to finish the single serving container in a day. Just frustrated I guess... I just want some cheese, chicken salad, and green beans, lol

I'm really having a hard time with that yogurt. I love Greek yogurt, however the plain non-fat has a taste that's difficult for me to acquire. I must say that I have never used it in egg salad or tuna salad, and I might give it a try. I could never eat it plain....YUCK! Thanks for the tip about the tunal salad, I will give it a try next time.

I love Fage 0% Greek Yogurt add a tablespoon of peanut butter and honey. It's so good and a great way to get protein. I stay full for a long time after eating this.
-
Well since my last fill I have been very tight in the mornings and am only able to get down liquids and maybe some yogurt. I can finally eat around noon if I have been up and about but if I sleep in or lounge around then I can't eat until much later, maybe 2 or 3.

Waiting is the worst...
skintyprincess replied to Amanda61082's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What am I doing during the wait...trying to eat like I already have the band. Protein shakes, greek yogurt, string cheese...working on the mind...the body is ready but my mind is still acting like a fatty!! Relax...time will fly by!! The fatty has on two occassion this week ordered way too much food! -
Tomorrow is the big day. I have been on my liquid diet for four days. Today has been the easiet day so far. I am actually pretty lucky because I can have yogurt/apple sauce/pudding. all of them have to be sugar free or fat free. It has not been so bad. The first day was the worse. I knew it was bad when I was sitting my pantry contemplating sucking on a cracker. Anyways, my surgery is tomorrow at 2:45 p.m. Starting to feel the butterflies.....so everyone say a little prayer or cross your fingers that everything goes okay!!!
