    Pre-VSG doubts?

I absolutely felt the same way before surgery. It was a long process for me to finally be approved with my insurance (7 plus months) and when I finally got the surgery date, I started to not believe that the procedure wouldnt work. I’ve struggled for years to yoyoing between being lean and then gaining 25, 50, 100lbs. The surgery was the best decision I’ve made. I’m only coming up to my 4 week mark in a few days, but I’m down almost 29lbs and feel a lot better physically. You will have doubts and fears. Don’t let them get the best of you! Note* everyone has different experiences when it comes to how one feels after surgery. I had severe pain in the hospital, but once I was home it was completely manageable. Think positively about this and it is a huge change for your health and appearance.
  2. So I had my first fill Tuesday morning and ever since I have been starving. I have 2.8cc in my band. I am on liquids for 5 days. It has not been easy. I have however lost 3 more lbs. Here is my question. Will I be this hungry each time they do a fill. Im sure at some point I will hit the Green Zone and I know that no one knows when that will be. I guess I expected to not be hungry because I have more restriction and it was just the opposite. Any sugestions????
  3. Well, surgery's tomorrow (Tuesday, February 3, 2015) and I'm sick: runny nose; soar throat; headache; swollen glands; cough; postnasal drip...drip...drip. I do have extreme allergies and I'm hoping it's that. I don't have a fever and I'm not short of breath. What would you do???

    Pain in back

My back bothered me more post-op than my front! And now I'm almost 2 weeks out and still have some soreness. Some of the pain is definitely from the gas, but some of it is from how they position you on the operating table, how you "favor" your incisions and stress different muscles, etc. I can feel the trigger points in my back that need to be released and have been working on them, but so far, no good. But much better now than last week!
  5. Ouch! Talk to your doctor, stat! I had stomach discomfort/pain several weeks out from surgery and realized that my (generic) Protonix prescription had run out. Once I got it refilled, the discomfort went away and stayed away. Could it be that simple for you? It's worth asking. Good luck!

    30-40 percent regain

I am not sure about the exact percentage but the reality is you have to be accountable to make the changes for long term success. Your best chance of losing and keeping it off is surgery. There are statics that prove this. Those that gain their weight back, have not fully adapted to the changes required to be successful. That usually comes from not being ready. The reason that most surgeons and insurance company's have a structured monitored diet plan that requires classes, nutritionist appointments and physcologist is so that they are sure you are ready to move forward. Whether it be 3 months, 6 month or 12 month programs that time is necessary to begin making changes and turning them into habits. You have to decide how bad you want it and how hard you are willing to work. The surgery is nothing more than a tool that helps you control the amount of food at any one given time. You have to drive it. You have to ensure you eat the right foods and that you don't graze all day long and eat around your surgery. For me, this was a no brainier, but I was ready.
  8. Scheduled my first fill for 9/11. Vacation is on 9/27. Maybe I should reschedule for when we get back the next week. What do you think? Thanks, my little lapband family! :cursing: I love you all.

I got my first fill today

YAY! Congrats! Sounds like you have a good doc. You're right to be cautious. Take it easy & do exactly what he says. & remember, it sometimes takes 2-3 weeks for a fill to really kick in. So have patience. Good luck!

    Protein bars

I just had my surgery yesterday so I am 3-4 weeks away from solid foods. That said, I was told that, once I can eat solid foods, I should eat a bar rather than drink a shake (as the shake will go right thru the stoma and not be satisfying). The problem I see is that all the bars I can find have a high calorie to Protein ratio. Anyone have any suggestions for a descent tasting Protein Bar that is relatively low calorie?
  11. I will have had the surgery one week ago tomorrow. I must say that it was harder than I thought. A lot of people that I knew who've had the sleeve, said they felt wonderful by day 4. I felt pretty good in the hospital. While they were doing the surgery, they found I needed hernia repair and they repaired it while they were in there. I knew that was a possibility. They sent me home the next day. When I got home, I really started feeling the pain. And it worried me! But I talked with the surgeons office and they said this was normal and just the healing process. I feel much better today and realize that it just takes some people longer to heal... I have to remember that they did two things during the one surgery and they both need the time to heal. Anybody else experienced or experiencing something similar?
  12. Yep - Allergan & Realize pay for those commercials. I have started to see more generic WLS commercials from doctors. Commercials that state they offer "different procedures for different people". After being home for a few weeks near the first of the year post-knee surgery, I was surprised at how many commercials were aired for WLS.

    Bridal shower

Hi I have a shower Sunday which Monday marks 2 weeks post op. Does anyone have any suggestions for me on soft foods I can eat there? Also, when, or is it ever safe to eat popcorn?

    food after banding

I feel your pain. The agony of the unknown is horrible. Almost worse than the reality. I have been a big time Diet Coke junkie (and I mean junkie) for a long time maybe 20 years! Yikes that makes me so old. I loved it! Probably some what like an alcoholic. Well I drank it like normall right up unil 48 hours before surgery. I suffered for at least a week with horrible headaches ( I think it was caffeine) but I don't really know. Could have been stress, no nicotine too. I am pretty proud of myself. However I have had some pretty bad moments. Where I just want to eat, drink coke and smoke and I feel crazy. I feel as if I have taken it one day and some times one hour at a time. I feel as if I am living on air. And since I quit smoking and had surgery I have had this horrible cough. I don't know if it is chest cold or all the toxins from the nicotine coming out. Well any how I would wean my self off of the pepsi now and deal with the headaches now if you can. But I doubt I could have until they said you have surgery you can never have it agian. That is probably the only reason I gave it up. But I am feeling better about it all. So far I have stayed away from people eating, drinking coke or smoking. I don't think I am quite ready to deal with it in my face. I am in hiding. Good Luck!

    food after banding

You're EXACTLY right, Teri! That's just what those numbers mean. You're not going to believe this, but I'm a fellow Pieces too! I'll be 33 on March 5th. I knew I liked you for some reason! LOL Oh yeah ... about being around others that smoke: I smoke ultra ultra light menthols (many have told me that I might as well have a mint and suck air instead of my cigarettes), NOT that that makes it ANY better than smoking "full-bodied" cigs, mind you. Anyway, my mother smokes heavier cigarettes, and my father smokes the marlboro red boxes (cowboy killers). I can't stand the smell of either, so it ends up making me NOT want to smoke. Good thing I guess. One of my first fiancees (I've had 3, but never married ... long stories) once told me that I can't stand anyone's smoke but my own. Who'd a thunk it would help me quit? LOL Well, off to go fill my coffee mug with that brown, watered-down decaf stuff!
  16. HI all. I had my sleeve surgery on 30 March 2017 at Gisborne Hospital in New Zealand. I was 178.6 (393.7 Pounds) at my heaviest in November 2016. Weighed 156.4 (344.8 pounds)on the day of my surgery and now weigh 117.5 kg (259 pounds). It has not been easy at times but I am now walking between 75 kilometres (46 miles) and 100 kilometres (62 miles) a week with my dog (who has also lost 2.5 kgs!). I am going all the way and will never go back. I know that I will have hard times ahead but have really mind shifted the way I look at food. Smart protein is everything at the moment for all meals. I admire each and everyone of you who have had or are considering this journey - Kia Kaha! This is a Maori phrase from New Zealand meaning "be strong". Let us try our very best and not be too hard on ourselves.
  17. I had my surgery on 5/16, and that pain on the left side is still there... kinda like when you drink Water and then run, you get a stitch/cramp... It's normal, and can last up to 4 weeks... of course, if it gets worse, you should definitely talk to your doc.
  18. I was like you guys ...'wtf where's my restriction !! ' But I learned better. Some people comment on how they get totally stuffed on 2-3 ounces, (even well beyond my 6 months post-op).....must be nice. I swear I could eat 7-8 oz chicken Took me 4 months to realize I needed to look at it different than them. I Don't look for the "Feeling" of restriction any more, by the time I feel it, its too late. I ate/drank too much. Do that too often and you'll get yourself all worked up about whether you stretched your pouch or not.....**don't go their, its an overrated worry people get all worked up about unnecessarily*** I needed to learn to slow down my meals. Pause a couple minutes between my bites and give that ....Slow.. satisfied ....cue.... to reach my brain. I was chasing the wrong sensation.... Relax.., slow down and relearn how to listen to your stomach's and enjoy the ride Don't overly count on feeling restriction to win this. Its not a sure thing for some of us. 2 months & 51 pounds

Congratulations! I hope I can say 51 pounds in another 6 weeks, which will be my 2 mo. anniversary. I'm starving to death.
  20. Can I be the only person who has failed a two weight loss surgeries??? Had lap band and lost 100 pounds. Switched to the sleeve in Sept and lost 40 pounds. But, I have lost nothing in the last 3-4 months....in fact I have gained 15 pounds. I am almost back to my surgery date weight. WTF?? Can I be re-sleeved??? I can eat moderate amounts of food and obviously is doing that. But, I feel hungry most of the day. What is this pouch test/diet I am seeing a few mentions about? I feel like a complete failure and that I will never be an "acceptable" size.

    All Over Post Op Problems

I'm feeling the same way. I'm regretting getting the surgery... The thought of my protein powder and protein shakes makes me nauseas. Im struggling to get my protein in and fluids too. Im in week 3. Thank god I at least just got mushy food back. It's helping, but I need to get in my protein. Im going to call the doc tomorrow and see about getting some nausea meds. Today the smell of everything made me nauseas. I cried tonight because I'm not sure what I got myself into. I go back to work tomorrow, so I am hoping to get my mind off everything. But I'm worried and trying to figure out how the hell in going to get 80 grams of protein in...

    Hate the wait game

I did what you did. I constantly called lol. Then one day they told me I was approved and they through a big ole BUT at the end of the good news. Apparently my approval was sent in the mail. And they couldn't schedule my surgery until my hospital had a letter of approval. And that took longer than the approval itself. But trust me. Once the wait is over it's worth it. I can't believe I'm a week post op already. I thought it was forever and now I feel like the 7-8 month process went by so fast! Best of luck!!!

    Question about 64oz fluids

Right after surgery your body is in a major heal mode. So during the first few weeks, many find it difficult to meet the fluid daily requirements. But you are almost a month post op and you should be likely able to handle the requirement at this time. It is common for your taste buds to change after surgery. Be willing to experiment. After surgery, my taste buds changed dramatically. Even water changed. In the hospital it tasted excessively chlorinated and I could not drink it. So I experimented. Sugar free popsicles became my best friend. Some individuals find hot or cold can help with fluids. For me, I found that I could tolerate flavored water. So I began using Crystal Light. I also found a new drink Bai which I liked cold. In the winter, I found that I tolerate hot drinks such as piping hot cocoa. But you have to use the "No Sugar Added" variety. Also fine English teas were very good. The fluid requirement is met by a combination. It is not only the water that you drink each day. But also the water you drink when you take your vitamins and medicine. It is the milk you drink. It is the fluids content of the protein shakes. It is the water component of the soups you take. It is met by flavored water such as Crystal Light. It is met by sugar free popsicles. It is met by tea and decaf coffee. It is a combination of all the fluids that you consume during the day.
  24. In my puree stage I had fat free refried beans, deviled eggs, & was allowed baked salmon, tuna with low fat mayo, & ricotta bake. It went by fast. No problems for me, I still lost like 5 more pounds during this phase (my 4th week pre-op). Height: 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. Surgery date: 2/13/17 Goal: -71 lbs for healthy BMI (about 145 lbs). Current weight: 180.8 My profile picture is not me. It's my "FITspiration" body.
  25. I'm on my 5th week after getting gastric bypass. It's a struggle to stay hydrated, and to get in the necessary protein. So far my experience has been ruff but it will get better. Stay optimistic!!!!
