    Take 2

I have had to wait 10 months. So during that time I practiced all the changes needed to make this transition and started seeing a therapist. I can honestly say that im now in a position where I wont sabotage myself. It was a difficult time to work through my wants and cravings but I have them mostly under control now. I feel confident when I get the sleeve done on Monday, I will be ready to use that tool fully.[emoji2] Sent from my SM-J700T using BariatricPal mobile app

WOW Almost MAY 1st - How is Everyone doing?

I'm on the same program as you. Though I started a lowcal high Protein diet on my own two weeks ago. Went for my pre-op intake at the hospital today, what a CLUSTER F**K!!! The hospital liason was out sick so they didn't have my paperwork. Had to track it down from the dr's office. Had to have blood taken and the "vampire" read the orders wrong and only took two vials before closing me out instead of four, so she had to stick my other arm. I was so flustered the admitting nurse spent 20 minutes convincing me that my DR was one of the best and made up for all the downfalls with his expertise. I SURE HOPE SO!!!! Only six days to go!!! WOOO HOOOO I'm scheduled for 10:30am PST on Wednesday the 6th. I'll be checking in to see how everyone else is doing.
  3. UPDATE: Should have posted last week: Well guys, I haven't posted in a while because I have just be out here living life to it's fullest. Grandkids, hunting, chasing the love of my life around(my dearest Lisa) and catching her every once in a while . . LOL, new temp job. . Yes, back in the working stiff arena getting some extra cash for all the hunting licenses I have to buy . . . Colorado Archery, Elk, Illinois Archer, Firearms, and Muzzleloader, Michigan Archery and Firearms/Muzzleloader, . . . etc. etc. . etc. . . see what I mean. I kinda like the work as it is challenging and pays pretty well. Back to the subject here . . . my WL has been going really well. . . down to 226(from a LB surgery high of 366) now and feeling pretty darned good and healthy. Exercise couldn't be better. As you probably already know I have become a fanatical Race/Walker with my buddy Jolly. We have now covered 392 miles since last August just prior to my LB to Sleeve conversion. We walked an 8K(5mi) event here in lansing 10 days after that surgery which was awesome. But, I am ready for another one. We have entered the half-marathon here in Lansing, MI. This is the inaugural event . . . Marathon(26 mi), Half-Marathon(13.1 mi), 5k, and 1k(kids race). You can find the details for this event at www.lansingmarathon.com . . Since I am going to be kicking off this race at about 9-9:15 am on Sunday April 22nd I thought you all just might like to watch the event from whereever you are. Well at least follow my progress on the computer. I have a GPS program that runs on my smartphone that tracks me and gives me my split times so I can keep up to a expected pace. If you are so inclined to peek in on my progress just follow this link: http://runkeeper.com...ndJolly/profile . . .. Then click on the Activities tab. Select the top activity and you should be able to follow my progress as I walk this route. You can point to the spots on the route to see my distance, pace, speed, etc. . . during the race. Hope you have a little fun with this. I will post pics from the pre-race, during the race, and after. . . This exercise is part of the reason that I have done so well after surgery. For any of you guys that are having trouble getting that exercise started. . . believe me it was difficult in the beginning. I just started with small walks and charted distance and times. Always either tried to go farther or faster and sometimes both. . . it hasn't stopped yet. Say a little prayer for me that I can suck it all up and finish this race. My cardio is awesome and my times on distances up to 8 miles are really good. Today I did an 8 mile walk with an average of 12:26 mi/mile. I am hoping to finish this race with about a 13 min/mi average. This would surely have me coming in under 3 hours. This is my best WOW moment . . . can you believe this 64 year old "former fat guy" is even going to try to finish this race. . . and now with such good times. I am feeling so good about this . . . Thank you Barix staff for everything you have done for me. And to all the folks here that give the great support to each other . . . "Hats off to you!!!". . keep up the good work and those that are just starting be sure to stick around and give aide and comfort to those just getting started down the line someday. That's all for now. See you on Sunday night when I post some new pics. UPDATE Last Sunday: Well guys . . this is the day . . . half-marathon starts at 9:30 am. I will be trying to update pics throughout the race from a new app on my Android phone so you can see the race route and what it looks like to me. Should take me about 2:50 hrs/mins to finish the race. That is my goal. About 13 min/mile. Check out the pics on my Facebook page . . . https://www.facebook.../#!/bob.scriver Couldn't have done this without Dr. Taylor and the Barix staff. . . . Thank you. Current Posting: Check out the FB page link above. . I FINISHED Lansing's 1st half-marathon. I have posted pics and Run keeper links to the race details. Pinch me. . I still can't believe it. My time was 2:50:06 for the 13.1 miles. . . My RunKeeper program calculated my average race time at 12:50 min/mile average. Not bad for a 64 year old former fat guy . . . LOL I have now lost a total of 140 lbs credited to both my surgeries(LB and VGS) along with a total of over 600 miles walking over the past 2.5 years.

    Front shot

Yes very painful. But I have no regrets. Was a good 2 weeks no work. 10 days of my husband lifting me in and out of bed. I still had slight pain up until week 6. I could not walk straight until week 7. but then again I had a lot done at once. But the tightening of the stomach muscles was the worse. None of the incisions hurt. It is a blessing not having that excess skin or what I called that flab lol. Insurance covered nothing. I was self pay. Honestly it was not that bad I'm already planning to do my inner upper legs lol. Was well worth every bit of the pain. And think about it you only have to do it once

WOW Almost MAY 1st - How is Everyone doing?

AHHHH! I think I feel all of the same things as each and everyone of you. I am finishing up my 10th day of my preop diet which was nothing but 5 Protein shakes a day and I am so proud of myself as I have not cheated once!!! I was worried I could not do it and now low and behold I am almost there! My surgery is on Monday and I am excited and also very scared. The shake diet has been doable, however my doctor wants me to be on the liquid shake diet for two weeks after surgery and then I am put on mushy food for two weeks. And two more weeks of this liquid diet really sounds like HELL!! I really want some food, any food, doesn't have to be fattening food just any type of solid substance that I can put in my mouth!! On another note, my 10 year old old daughter is really wanting to go to the hospital with my husband on that day. Originally, I was thinking she would be better off at school instead of just waiting at the hospital. Also I thought it would be harder on me having her there as I have never had surgery before and I think I woulod just worry about the worst scenario more with her there if that makes any sense. But now she seems to be getting worried and asking a lot of questions. What do you all think I should do, should I let her come to the hospital the day of the surgery? What are others doing with children in the same age range?

    Psycholgical Support After Banding

I was required to have a 2 hr psych eval(PHD phychologist) and I filled out long questionaires. It was brutal. I was required to be followed by a psychiatrist and be on meds for depression and anxiety. I was also required to join a 12 step group of my choice , get a sponsor and have someone to call when I have future crisis. I consider myself sane and not in need of this. My surgery is March 19. I am sure I will miss food and that may trigger sadness. I know 12 step groups are free and that's a good deal. I found a CODA meeting. that's for codependents. I am always putting others before me and giving too much money to my kids. I need to learn to take care of myself first. I think food has been my best friend/enemy and my drug of choice. Body image is an entirely different thing but when I first see my shrink, if I like him, maybe he can help with the body image transition. Mostly I don't want to switch addictions as I hear that often happens.

do I have enough restriction or not?

Hi mercadies, I had another fill today, I was had a 1cc fill and then today they found .8 inside of my band. So, I was filled to 1.6cc. I hope this is it. I was able to eat some dark meat chicken tonight but not much. I have to really buckle down to drop some weight. I wanted to hit 230 by March 10 that is a whapping 25lb's. I gained 15lb from my first fill. So, Im changing my workouts to 4or 5 am. and work real hard on my eatiing habits and see if it changes anything.
  9. I was banded in Indianapolis Spet. 27, followed the dr's rules to a tee and I have my first fill this Thursday. How do they determine how much you get? I know I am hungry between meals and they told me I can have between 3-5 oz per meal. Will this change when I get filled? Will the oz's go down?:help: Will the hunger go away?
  10. I had my second fill a few weeks back, which brings me to 2 cc in a 10 cc band. Honestly, I have not able to eat much since. And what I do eat usually gets thrown up within 15 minutes. But even though I am having a hard time, I don't want to unfill ~ I am losing weight so fast now. I just wonder how long I can keep this up. Grrrr.
  11. I am still sick and have a lot of gas, cant belch, i even tried a little chicken noodle soup, nothing but hurting and freaking gas, I am so sick of this, I had my surgery on 10/13 should I not be doing better?

    Insurance timeframe

If you search these boards, you will find answers that are all over the place!!! I am on an individual plan with BCBS of Illinois. When I called them to ask about approval time frame, they told me they usually get things done in 7-10 business days. The insurance coordinator told me they are usually closer to 15-20 business days, sometimes as much as 25. And, she also confirmed the stories I have read here that note BCBS is notorious for denying on first submission. She said even if they deny, the tell them what is missing so they can get it through on the 2nd try. All that said, my stuff should be submitted any day and the insurance coordinator at the surgeons office said BCBS has been running "pretty quick" lately and she was hoping for a 10 day time frame. Good luck to you! kagead
  13. I was banded 9/29, 2 weeks and 5 days ago. I'm having trouble getting in enough Water. I don't know what to eat. Have started trying some things, carefully, and slowly. Haven't had any problems, but just couldn't take mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs and pintos & cheese, anymore! And I'm not losing!!!! Dr's office said you're not suppossed to right now, this is the month for healing, but it's frustrating just the same. I eat way less then I used to and the scale won't budge, even gained 1 lb back after starting soft stuff. I get my 1st fill 10/28, but I wish I could be losing a little by then. Dr's office suggested low carb diet, so as not to gain back what I've lost, 6 lbs preop, and 6 lbs postop minus the 1 lb I've gained back. :tt1: Now stuck. Lst week was my 1st week back at work, 12 hour shifts as a NICU nurse. So I got through that. Guess now I'll try to start walking. Maybe that will help. Thanks for "listening". Just frustrated. Feeling good though. :tongue_smilie:
  14. I use unflavored unjury or chocolate to spike sugarfree pudding. Protein powder never tasted so good. I take a small box of chocolate sugarfree pudding, mix a scoop of unjury powder and blend it for just a few seconds with 1 1/4 cups of skim milk. Then add the chocolate pudding I put it in two bowls and chill it. If you use one scoop it will be about 15 grams of protein and about 170 calories total. If you are in need of more protein and calories use two scoops will add and additional 10 grams of protein and 50 more calories. I also use the chocolate to make a mocha. I take my leftover coffee or decaf if you prefer, a scoop of powder, half a cup of skim milk and 5-6 ice cube and you get a nice mocha. Not quite Starbucks but pretty darn good from where we stand.

    Im back.

K, so after a very bad period of time in which i had to have the fluid removed due to it being too tight, I have reached a point in which I cannot get back to where I was. I had lost roughly 70lbs. And was doing great, felt great, and was starting to look great. I went in for a routine upper g.i and the barium I drank dripped through like an I.v. So they said they wanted to remove half and then see why happens. Well what happened was I now weigh more than I did before the surgery, I am so disgusted with myself it's unreal. I work out, I thought I was eating better, I even tried the joe cross reboot program. Lost 10, gained 15. So I pretty much have up. But after realizing that I need to fix things not just for me but for my family, I am back ! I had a full today, I am at 8 cc on a 10 cc band. I was at 7.5 and felt absolutely no restriction. So I'm hoping this helps. My hardest part is I don't have a lot of money, and I'm not sure what foods to eat for breakfast, lunch, and I work in a prison so it's hard to eat a lot so I'm wondering what exactly do you guys eat and how much for lunch breakfast and dinner. I need help and remember I'm low on funds. I have unlimited eggs due to my chicken lol

I am a L&D nurse, so good luck with the nursing school, I know how hard it is! Nice to meet you, good luck with everything!

    Your top ten reasons

Hi Everybody! This board is an inspiration for me and although I do not regualarly post, I read often. Here are my top ten reasons to loose the weight: 10. To be able to shop for clothes in places other than Lane Bryant and Avenue or the "Women's Department". 9. To be able to dress with confidence. 8. To build my self-esteem. 7. To not have to take blood pressure meds for the rest of my life. 6. To not get Type II Diabetes like my Big Mama did. 5. To not get heart disease like my grandfather did. 4. To wear a swim suit on vacation. 3. To be a better example to the students I serve. 2. To improve my quality of life. 1. To be a better steward of this temple in which the Holy Spirit dwells!

  20. I am in my 5th month before surgery( hopefully) and have lost 12 pounds. I am try tall and original weight of 262 pounds. My bariatric doctor told me that my weight loss goal pre-surgery was minimum of 5% my original weight. Which is about 14 pounds. My primary has been behind all his requirements. Only suggestion was more water and exercising, preferably walking. I was also told that the liquid pre-op diet can make you lose up to 10 pounds. The main goal I was told was to set up your routine and learn better habits. And shrink your liver for surgery. Long story short, PvP needs to be more supportive or replaced. Just saying. 21. After almost 10 years of battling with insurance companies and a long growing list of medical problems, the day has finally arrived. I'm 31 years old and take more mediations than both of my parents combined (and they take a lot). The process is moving so fast that it's all surreal. I'm super nervous and excited. I can't sleep just counting down the days. :-) Thank you ladies for all your success stories, they have been very inspirational and have kept my spirits up not to quit trying. I will continue to check in as I'm sure I will need a lot of guidance through the journey of my new life.
  22. I'm looking for someone in that lives near me . I just moved to Middletown , New York in December. My name is Olga I will be 38 on the 26 of June. I have a wonderful son , named David who will be 10 on July 22. and I have been happily devorced for 3 years . So if there's anyone out there please let me know. Thanks ! Olga

    no difference

I had my first fill this past Tuesday...(I was given 1 cc in a 10 cc band.) My doc said to come back in 6 weeks for another fill. I did feel some restriction for the first day or so. I am going to ride it out for another week or so to see what happens with my restriction before I call the doctor's office to get in sooner than 6 weeks. Good luck to you.

    Confused

Do NOT second guess yourself. Losing 10 pounds in 4 weeks is great. All bodies are different. At four weeks I was at the soft food stage. Take small bites and chew. You CAN do this!
  25. i agree with shazam but i know if i eat more than what my lap band is telling me i might as well go to the bathroom and wait for the spit up as i call it. i take what i didnt eat and just throw it in the trash. i know in about 10 min's my brain will be satisfied and happy. it takes just a min. to throw it away and if you have to, put it in the garbage disp. don't save it . it will only make your brain go to it in the refrig. protein drinks are a great way to fill satisfied in between meals if you have to.
