    Gahhhhh

SO...last week, I posted that I was down 20lbs since August 1st. I was SOOO excited! I had hit a small goal of mine...and was TOTALLY pumped. I also made it back to the gym for a Zumba class, totally kept up, and felt great afterwards. On Tuesday afternoon, I ended up with a wicked sore throat.....which stayed until Thursday morning....which turned into a chest cold. I've been coughing, coughing, and coughing some more....and definitely feeling generally awful. I didn't go back to the gym....and today was feeling a little bit under the weather, but was going to brave it anyway! The class ended up being cancelled...and I didn't have my ipod, so I didn't want to go on the machine (that is my idea of torture! 30 min on the elipical with nothing to entertain me! ugh!). Anyhow...I hopped on the scale and have somehow gained 2.8lbs this week. NOW...I know I was just banded on the 10th...and these are supposed to be healing weeks...but I'm eating average calorie intake about 1075/day (that was a 6 day average). I'm eating mainly Proteins...I'm getting around 74 grams of Protein daily. I'm not sure why I'm gaining?? Is this normal???? I feel like I'm failing...just like I've done over and over again in the past. Gosh, I was on such a mental high last week....It's SO amazing how I can go from one state to another in a matter of 7 days. I just felt like I was doing everything right! Any ideas??
  2. Hi everyone! I'm writing to you from my NEW computer I just got my first home computer and connected to the internet tonight! It's quite intimidating, sometimes these weird messages come up and I don't know what they mean. So I'll be able to pop in when I'm at home! On the subject of banding, some of you may know I've been researching it. I have taken the first step, well maybe it's the 2nd (after research of course), but I've called my primary doctor for a referral to a surgeon I'm still kind of worried I will fail (by tha I mean that I'm afraid I'll mess up the dietary rules) and think that maybe behind my back people will say it was stupid of me to do this, why can't I just diet the weight off. But...I have to think positively. My family isn't 100% on board, my mother would just as soon ignore the subject. I went to a support group and she never asked how it went or anything. My husband didn't either for that matter. Sometimes I think I'll be flying solo on this adventure. It' almost midnight, so I guess I should go to bed. I ate dinner at 9:30 and I am not ready to sleep!

    Long term patients

Hi, I had the sleeve done July 2012 and lost 83 lbs. A year later I was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis (like Rheumatoid Arthritis with tendonitis thrown in) and my exercising slowed due to pain. Since then, I have slowly crept up 30 # and maintained, but I want to get back on track and lose what I gained plus another 20 # to reach my goal. I have been on 2 types of chemo for 2 years and am finally starting to feel better and hope to bring my bike to work next week to start riding. I really need to get my food adjusted to lose again and don't know how many calories and grams of protein/fat/carbs I should set as a goal. I'm using My Fitness Pal to track my food. Everything I typically find is for people just having had surgery. I would really appreciate your thoughts for guidelines for 4 years out.

4th Fill Did It! Am I too restricted???

Thanks for all of your advice. I called the MD and cancelled my fill apt for tomorrow. I am going to stay at 2.25 cc's for a month and see how my weight goes. Clearly I am in a place that I can only eat 3/4 cup or so of food at a sitting. It's terrific. I feel so ready to start losing weight. So for all you newbies out there...be patient...it took me 2 1/2 months to feel any restriction at all... I went from no restriction to what seems to be perfect for now. Lori

    Cardio or weight training

@@NikkiDoc - Your work around the house counts. If you get a fitbit or other activity tracker I think you will feel better about it. HIIT training with weights will get your cardio and weight training benefits at same time. You might want to check out this site for more ideas: http://www.coachcalorie.com/benefits-of-weight-training-for-weight-loss/

    Cardio or weight training

I try to mix it up. If I were in your situation, I would probably do either weights twice a week at the gym and cardio once per week, or I would mix it up and do both weights and cardio all three times. As far as the riding and horse care goes, I would consider that "being active" -- which is great -- rather than "exercise" (in the sense of something you journal in MFP and give yourself calorie credit for or anything like that). I have had horses pretty much all my life and I do know what you are talking about in terms of effort and activity level. Anyway, I think weights and cardio are both important and it sounds like you are doing really well, so don't second guess yourself too much

    Cardio or weight training

Okay it sounds like since I almost always do a mix of cardio and weight training I should be good. I tend to do 20-25 minutes of cardio- half before and half after weight training. I use the machines for weight training. It is a fairly long routine so 30 minutes if I do the base workout and if I am feeling ambitious and do extra sets maybe 40 minutes. I guess it didn't seem like the amount of cardio I was doing "counted" for much. As far as horses not counting as exercise, I pointed it out to show I wasn't being couch potato on the other days. Many people think that riding horses is like renting a fully tacked and groomed horse for a 1 hour guided trail ride where you are primarily walking and the rider doesn't need to do much. Thanks for the replies

    You Can Do This!

Very inspiring Amy. Looks like you are doing really well. My start weight was the same as yours. It is my goal to lose at least 100 pounds by my 1 year bandiversary. Congratulations to you on your weight loss! Donna
  10. I walk with a friend on each break. So about 1/2 hour and between a mile and a half to two miles. I also have hand weights I use 2-3 times per week. I understand lots of people are not working out and still are losing. But I wanted to create a new habit for myself.
  11. Dr. JLo- First of all, I admire your work that I have seen on Big Medicine. I am such a fan! I have carried twins for 38 weeks (6.4 lbs. each), 19 months later had another c-section, all while having a pre pragnancy weight of 245. Needless to say I have quite an "apron". I feel comfortable with the way the rest of my body is shaping up through exercise. Okay so maybe I want some implants too. I have told myself that I wanted to be 170 before seeking out a PS. I am 5"5" and in a 18 (because I have to tuck in my stomach in my pants). The rest of me looks like a normal person now. It is hard to feel good about this much weightloss when I see that apron everytime I look in the mirror. How much weight in skin can be removed during a TT. When should I seek out a PS in your opinion? Can you recommend someone in DFW for a self pay? Thank you so much!
  12. The weight does come off rather quickly while on liquids, especially if you have a lot to lose. Nice job on your weight loss success so far. I wouldn't worry unless you don't feel well. If that is the case, then definitely contact your doctor.
  13. Two years ago today, my husband of 20 years had a melt down and told me for the first time how much he hated my body and that our sex life was terrible because I was fat. This was the first time he had ever said anything and I was pissed, shocked, hurt and confused. I thought about walking out because it was such a bombshell, but over the next two weeks we got everything out in the open (including me telling him things that I had held back). We cried, we fought, we talked, we made some decisions. Although he could have handled it much differently, I couldn't deny that he was right....not to mention my health was going downhill. A month later, I had WLS, that was October 2011. A year later, I had lost 80 lbs and reached my goal weight. That was September 2012. I wrote a blog every Sunday for the first year. If you haven't read it and you want some inspiration, please go to www.queenofcrop.com I want to inspire those who aren't sure if they should do this, or might be struggling after the surgery. My life today is an extraordinary, amazing life. My health issues are gone, my husband and I have never been closer, our sex life is more than amazing, I feel younger and happier than I have in my entire life. I turn 60 in a few weeks. I feel 35. I think I look pretty good for 60. I'm happy. I am grateful.
  14. I've been reading a lot of posts on this board, books, and anything I can get my hands on. I have a BMI of 58 (pre 10% weight loss before surgery) and it has been mentioned that doctors won't band someone with my BMI, even if I lose my 10%. I have no health conditions and I want to get this weight off before I develop any issues. I don't want to have bypass surgery because of the risks. Anyone out there who can help?
  15. When I started this journey I was at a low BMI. I was told that I really didn't need to lose weight just not gain. Because of this I don't think I have really prepared myself for the behavioral changes that I will have to make in relation to food. I have replaced meals with shakes and I have tried to pay attention to what I am eating and I have gotten rid of Diet Pepsi. I also try to slip slow and not drink with meals but I still don't think its enough. I would like to hear from people that made significant changes before surgery vs those that wait until after surgery to deal with issues. Thanks for the Info

    UMass Worcester?

Hi, I have an appointment at the Worcester UMass weight center In December. How did everything go for you?
  17. When I was pregnant, I became hyper aware of all the pregnant people around. One day, no preggos.. the next, boom! Now that I'm about to go under the knife, I start thinking about all the people I have seen that have lost a ton of weight, and I wonder whether they had some help [emoji6] And, recently, an aquaintance mentioned she had a small stomach. Before, I would have thought it was some kind of birth defect. Now I know better! Lol.

    Seeing WLS patients everywhere?

Lol I feel the same way. I look at peoples before and after pictures and especially in the time they said it took them to lose the weight and I am," I know what you did." lol
  19. I've been wondering this about someone i used to work with. She's lost a ton of weight and looks amazing. I wanted to ask her if she had surgery. She told me in the past she was going through the process but her family talked her out of it at the last minute. I feel like she might have done it but don't want to assume or ask. It sucks because i really would like to talk to someone i know personally who has had it but dont know many people who have and would like to be support buddies.
  20. My starting weight was 330 in November 2014, morning of surgery 4/6 I was 299, now I am 248. I have had upper back pain constantly. I'm starting to stregthen my back, but as anyone else had problems with their back since surgery. I carried most of the weight in my belly It also doesn't help that I hunch over at work.

    6 month diet

I have BCBS of Texas. I had been to WW and Meditrim off and on for years. I lost but always gained it back. My records from WW and Meditrim were enough for my doctor to submit to insurance for approval. I turned in my paperwork, got approval, and had surgery within 3 weeks. It was great not having to wait.
  22. I understand. I am going through the same thing. Last Fri. The 9th, I had my last Dr. supervised appt. Today, I faxed everything. I faxed it to the lawyers who are patient advocates. This waiting game is a killer. I didn't lose any weight either. If we could lose weight on our own, why would we put in for this? I hope my paperwork gets approved! The only reason why I was denied was because my 6 mo. wasn't completed. Best of luck to you! Let's keep in touch! Hopefully we will be banded around the same time:wink2:

    Before & Afters?

Hey Kel, Looks like we had the same start weight and are aiming to lose the same amount of weight. Congrats on your success! What would you say has helped you the most?

    Should I do this?

I'm almost 3 months post op. To be honest, every day once per day I regret having had surgery. You know when that is? When I wish I could fit in more food! I have anxiety and depression (since a very young age) and I thought I could do this in my own. WRONG. I'm happy with my decision 90% of the time. It's a complete lifestyle change but my body is thanking me for it! The pain post-op is controlled well with pain meds. I had pain but only for about 2 weeks. After I could finally sleep on my tummy I was happy. The air that they pump in you during surgery is probably the toughest to handle (for me) but GasX chewables were a life saver!!!!! Your diet will change and food will look different/taste different to you. I started craving healthier foods around month 2. I'll leave my weight lost stats at the bottom. The only advice I can give is that everyone has a different experience so make sure this is really what you want and that you are 100% committed. It isn't going to be easy but for me it was so worth it. Get ready to end your current relationship with food and start a new one. Let's face it, my old relationship with food was literally killing me so I'm grateful. PS. I met my best friend on this app. She had her surgery 2 weeks after me and we have been keeping each other motivated since pre-op diet. I recommend reaching out to someone who will be getting surgery around the same time and who is SERIOUS. Hope this helps :-) Age: 27 Height: 5'2 HW: 299 Pre-op: 268 CW: 225 GW: 140 Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/391807-Need-support%21-/page__view__findpost__p__4414746 Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
