Weight Gain 2 weeks post op
Arabesque replied to LinzGood's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We all have our natural fluctuations. Fluid, hormones, constipation, etc. Mine is a kilogram (2.2lbs). Never really noticed it before because I rarely weighed myself. You may have been the same. Now because we weigh ourselves more regularly & record our weight, the fluctuations are more noticeable. As long as your weight loss trend across is going downwards, all is good. Doesn’t matter if there’s little hitches. Stalls happen. The first usually occurs around week 3 & can last 1-3 weeks. Frustrating & stressful when you see no weight loss, but a very common part of the weight loss journey. They do end & your weight will start to drop again. -
Weight Gain 2 weeks post op

I’m thankful I found this thread from a few years ago. I’m two weeks post op today and have been having a little weight fluctuation since starting on puréed foods last Thursday. I lost 18 pounds in my first week after surgery, but then put 3 back on, 4 back off, and 3 back on. I know I shouldn’t be weighing myself daily but I haven’t been able to stop doing so. Hoping this is normal and overall I’ll drop a ton moving forward! -
Feeling kind of devastated…
MSStoney replied to Writergirl's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I am 4 weeks today from my breast reduction and panniculectomy surgery after a 105 weight loss and maintenance for more than a year. coming up on 62 y/o. Surgeon removed 6+ lbs. I was a DDD and told my surgeon I wanted to go as small as possible without increasing any risk. He thought a large B or small C. My focus was on my quality of life 5-10-15-20 yrs from now. I could feel the difference in my neck and back within just a few days. I have not shared w many that I was doing this. vast majority don't know what I had to do to manage the excess skin and boobs. don't expect most to really even notice. but if they do, they do. what is important is how I feel and I feel great! I am grateful for each step of this journey and thankful for the improved quality of life it has given me. -

Hi dear! I had surgery 1/31 and in the same boat. Lost 31 since surgery, but I’ll go a whole week and not lose. I’ve noticed that when I have my period I don’t lose any weight, so that’s been 2 weeks right there with no movement. im trying to up my water intake, and up my exercise to daily. I got up drinking too much juice for my sweet fix. So I’ve cut that way back again. how many calories are we supposed to be eating each day? -

Stalls are normal I had one at 3 weeks post op for about a week. Another lady I know at 4 or 5 weeks had a 3 week stall despite getting in her water, protein and exercising. Don’t get discouraged it is part of the journey. When I would have stalls before the surgery when trying to diet I would change my eating for one day. Example if I was doing no carbs and after 2 weeks stalled then I would increase my carbs just for the day and it seemed to help. Now since I had the surgery when I had the stall I just kept the course and weight started coming back off. I had sleeve feb 7th and I am 37lbs down 10 from pre-op liquid and the rest after surgery a little slow to me but I have had some issues and have been unable to tske in protein up until recently. I am now able to drink protein water so hopefully my energy and activity will begin to increase for increased weight loss. -

I also notice this, and it was also last week when I was away from home. I think it's because I wasn't doing protein first. I ate half a tuna melt sandwich all but two bites and panicked that my restriction had disappeared overnight. Of course it hadn't - turns out carbs first is not the right way. Now I'm back at home I'm feeling the restriction again - just the same as before. I will need to plan better next time I'm away from home. I'm almost 5 stones down on my highest weight. I feel amazing. I have always yo-yo'd so I have ALL the sizes of clothing to go back through on the way down. Once I reach a steady weight I'll invest in some new stuff, especially for work. Turns out 10 year old work clothes look like they were in fashion 10 years ago. 🤣 -

Pre-op diet, hungry, not losing weight
summerseeker replied to JessiPhoenix's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a 3 week pre op of non carbohydrate vegetables, 1 low fat yogurt, 1 piece of fruit and 40 oz [ 2 pints] of skimmed milk. I had sugar free ice sticks and I was allowed coffee, thank the gods for that. I cook, I researched the food I could have really well. It was still the most torturous time of my life. As I was self pay, I didn't dare cheat but oh boy, was I a happy woman when the day came to have my op. In the end I lost 15 pounds eating salads, Thai broths with veg and water noodles in and lots of roasted vegetables with aged balsamic vinegar. After 4 days I wasn't hungry just very very bored. Stick at it, Your time in food prison will soon pass -
You had surgery 10 days ago? It's not uncommon to have 2nd thoughts right after surgery. When you combine post-surgical pain, the shock of the change in diet, possible post-surgical depression, and a lot of other factors, it can take a while to feel "normal" again. Don't assume you'll always feel the way you do now - take it a day at a time. Week three was when I turned the corner. Best wishes!

That’s a good feeling—I got on my motorcycle for the first time two weeks ago and have discovered I actually need a new helmet because it’s loose around my face now.

Yellow saliva, bad mouth order after sleeve
pintsizedmallrat replied to haneen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is it making you cough? The only reason I ask is because I had acid reflux and I was coughing up foul smelling, brown/yellow phlegm. It turns out I had inhaled stomach acid into my lungs in my sleep and had developed bacterial pneumonia. I was in the hospital for a week. Please get it checked out especially if it’s the result of a cough. -

pintsizedmallrat replied to JessiPhoenix's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You’re going to be really hungry, unfortunately. I had to do it for three weeks and was pretty miserable the whole time. Try to fill up on sugar free beverages which will make you feel more full and keep things moving. -
Pregnant eight months after vsg

ive seen people on here get pregnant just a few weeks after surgery. If you use the search bar and type in pregnant you can probably find those post and speak with those that did get pregnant. -
It's basically 1kg a week. Weight loss far in excess of that probably isn't all fat anyway.

Burning in stomach 12 months post-op
katherineheartburn posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi all - I’ve been trying to get into my surgeon’s office but they’re really booked out. As I keep trying, I wanted to see if anyone has experienced this post-op. (Sleeved 2/2021) Since December, I’ve frequently been experiencing a burning sensation in the lower left part of my stomach, regardless of what I do or don’t eat. I’ve taken Prilosec and it helps temporarily, but the feeling is getting more intense. I don’t have any reflux/heartburn symptoms or acid coming up…just the pain below. I’m going to see my primary care doctor for it next week, but was wondering if anyone had this? I’ve heard of GERD being a common post-op side effect, but this is nothing like the gastric reflux I had before surgery. Makes me think it’s an ulcer but would be grateful to know if anyone had these symptoms too. Thanks! -

Hey everyone so I had my sleeve on March 7th this past Monday and I must say that I was not expecting the level of pain im in. There are a lot of challenges im facing right now that im just uncertain about and im only one week in. I have a call with the DOC in the morning and hopefully we can get to the bottom of some of this. I haven't had a bowel movement since the surgery and each day my fluid intake is less and less. Im trying to force fluids down causing super sharp pains and my body just doesn't want it. Anyone who has been through this, can you please tell me what you did and how you got through. Thanks. And good luck for all those March people going in.. -
Bypass revision after sleeve? 8 years post op Sleeve
gabbykittyvsg replied to Tink22-sleeve's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I converted from sleeve to bypass almost 2 weeks ago due to severe GERD. My recovery has not been typical. My small intestine swelled almost completely shut at one of the newly created junctions so I had to go back in the hospital for a few days for a lovely tube down my nose and into my stomach, more steroids and forced rest in the form of nothing to eat or drink. I'm fine now, fluids are moving through and my digestive system is fully back on line. The swelling wasn't a big surprise since my sleeve swelled quite a bit when I first had it done 7 years ago. Considering the severity of your GERD, absolutely get the conversion to bypass. The GI doc who did my first endoscopy was worried enough about the results of my second endoscopy (done by a different doc) that he called me to make sure I understood the severity of what could happen if it wasn't surgically corrected. For what it's worth, I've not had any reflux since surgery. Sent from my Z5157V using BariatricPal mobile app -
March 2022 Surgery Buddies
gabbykittyvsg replied to LilaNicole20's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
March 1st here. After the surgery and readmission I didn't sleep much that first week. I've been sleeping 12+ hours since I got home, making up for the sleep a person doesn't get in the hospital. The incision itchies are almost gone and my abdomen is looking better every day. Adhesive reactions are a pain! I have a follow up with my surgeons nurse practitioner on Tuesday and the dietitian on Wednesday. I've lost about 9 pounds so far which is a major surprise considering all the IV fluids and steroids I had. Saturday the poop damn broke loose and that's where I've lost most of the weight. Fluids have been no problem and I'm now able to start thickening up some liquids. I've totally blended soups and they tasted sooooooooo good. I'm totally over the taste of protein drinks so I've been doing a fair amount of Fairlife skim milk, yummy! I go back to work tomorrow evening. I do some light janitorial work and tomorrow night's account only takes about 1-1.5 hours. Sent from my Z5157V using BariatricPal mobile app -
Post op constipation…

Oh boy I have this problem too. I went a whole 7 days without going last week and in the end I didn't dare go out in case I had a accident. I hope I can eat more soon and then eat more vegetables. -
I’m curious about other WLS centers. My center has an online support group that meets while I’m working or on my way home. I’ve gone to it during school holidays but found they talked about breaking stalls or simple facts. I try to bring up meatier topics like feelings about food changes or non-scale victories and it’s crickets. Just wondering…Thanks

Only 22lbs lost 2 months post op - what is happening?
learn2cook replied to Zerofuckstogive70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think I lost 20 lbs at 2 months. You sound like you are doing well. Everyone looses at their own pace, and exercises at their own capacity too. I love to move and be active and have found that if I feel “starving “ I should eat a little more protein or veg and the weight stall ends. My plan is mostly protein and veggies, but I can eat anything. That said, I dump and have problems digesting simple carbs so I tend to avoid them or pair them with protein if I really want them (just me). Most of the time it’s not worth it (still feeling the noodles from 2 days ago). -

I just wanted to update you on my experience. My surgery went very well on Tuesday and now on Sunday, I feel pretty much normal. My advice is to be first on the surgery schedule even if you have to wait an extra week or two. My surgery was moved up an hour and then delayed by 2 1/2 hours with little feedback and you can’t see your support person once they take you to pre-op. I was in pre-op about 4 hours. My surgery being so late also resulted in my not having a bed after recovery room. They put me in a cubicle in a very noisy area until I freaked out and spoke to the house supervisor. They finally moved me on the same unit into a real room. It was definitely not a post op unit, though. It was basically a do it yourself recovery overnight. Thank goodness I went home the next day. I’m certainly happy to be passed that part. Have you decided on sleeve versus bypass? Do you have any reflux issues right now? If you do, I would definitely just go for the bypass. I had the sleeve and ended up with constant feelings of indigestion plus chronic gastritis. Of course, it’s too early to know anything about my bypass experience.
