  1. Yes you are missing something. It was only approved because I had the lapband and it had slipped, its call revision surgery.

Can I specifically request Gastric Sleeve?

You can do whichever procedure you think would be best for you. However, I went in thinking that the lap band was what I wanted and was set on it. After talking to the surgeon, he said that he really doesn't do the band anymore and recommended the sleeve. After him explaining that a lot of lap bands end up having a revision, I ended up going with the sleeve and Im glad I did. So basically really take what your surgeon says into consideration, but ultimately its up to you.

    Surgeons Stats...

I had the band for 10 years. I had SOME success but never really found the right spot either. About 2-3 years post band, I had to have all Fluid removed due to uncontrollable reflux. So, by the time I got the courage to "deal" with it, it had slipped, I had a dialated pouch and massive scar tissue. I am still surprised your surgeon has done so few revisions because it does seem like over time the bands sometimes have issues. I knew quite a few people banded around the time I was and EVERY SINGLE ONE has revised or just had it removed. This forum has some great band success stories, but I wasn't one of them. I appreciated the experience my surgeon had with revisions because they do sometimes have a hard time getting a "proper" sleeve due to scar tissue. I remember when he visited me after I woke up and he said "I think I got you a good sleeve" - and 4 years later, I still concur!

I had a revision from lapband to bypass. Happy

    Surgeons Stats...

I believe what he meant was since I have not had a slip, or something medically go wrong with my lapband he doesn't want others to feel they can come in and get revised. I personally have had a hard time with finding a sweet spot and it's always toot tight or too open. I believe after having my babies everything got moved around. I have been successful with the lapband, but am so ready for it to be gone!

    Surgeons Stats...

So when your band has slipped, for example, they don't condone revisions? Personally I felt confident going to a surgeon who had performed many band to sleeve revisions.
  7. I would like to know what some stats of everyone's surgeons were? I asked mine how many revisions he has performed. And out of all of them, how many were done in one procedure. His answer was, "These revisions are rare, I have done half a dozen, same as my partners. Almost all of them we did at the same time." He is the head surgeon at a top bariatric hospital in my region, and has performed hundreds of sleeves, but now I am aware only half a dozen revisions.... He informed me that the hospital he works for does not like to condone revisions. Just because they don't want people to feel as if they can just get them whenever. My surgery is scheduled January 25th. Thanks friends!
  8. Yep! Just had my surgery Dec 14 at ROBeaumont!Hi Daisy! Hope your recovery is going well!! What Dr did your surgery? Dr. Krause did my band back in 2008, going for a revision to the sleeve. I'm guessing that will be in June as I have just started my appointments and my insurance requires the 6 months.

    Feeling like I've failed...

Have you considered a revision surgery to a bypass or DS? Maybe the malabsorbtion along with restriction is more the answer for you?
  10. Regain is always a possibility. However, not doing something is about 100percent chance of remaining obese and all the consequences. I revised from band to sleeve 4 years ago, lost half my body weight, and remain at goal. It isn't easy, but it's possible.

    Gallbladder?

So I have been very good for past few weeks on my insurance required diet (month1 of 3) but recently I started noticing pain under my right rib radiating to side and to the back, especially after I eat meat. One night few weeks ago it was really bad after I ate something fattier for dinner. I am going to see my surgeon next week to empty my band due to all of the heartburn I'm having, but will also bring this up... Have you had your gallbladder removed prior or during revision surgery?

    Hello please...Not feeling well

Wow sure sounds like you went through a lot! I am glad you are on your road to recovery! How was the repair surgery? Did it take a long time? I am in the lap band to RNY revision process, definitely terrified of complications but I am trying not to let it stop me from going something that will give me hope to lose the extra weight I have been carrying all my life.
  14. Well 1Cor, it DEF will happen, and yes it's a part of the process. But I hope that knowing that we've all been there and survived it will encourage you to just let it happen, keep working out and eating right, you're doing gr8! Just remember how b4 surgery, we gained, not stalled but gained and at least now after the surgery, you know that it too shall pass and Lord willing, you'll be back to losing. As much as we all dreaded it, it's actually a good thing for our bodies to be able to rejuvenate, recharge and reset after such massive weight losses. Although the docs, and praise God for them, had done something to our bodies to help us with significant weightloss, God made this temple and thank God that He won't allow more on our bodies than it can handle! Hopefully I gave encouragement to you and not just rambling on, at least that was my goal. I'm a revision from sleeve to bypass due to 2yrs suffering from vomiting due to severe acid reflux and a stricture and guess what, 3 weeks out exactly, my body stopped losing! It just has to happen:) and now I'm going on my 5th week and started back losing, not that that's my ultimate goal now but I still want to lose a little bit more. Take care and hang on and in there with us. We have your back!!
  15. I had gb on 12/14 then a revision to repair a leak 12/20. I've been feeling pretty well but there are some days where I can't stomach my Protein shakes and overall don't feel well. It's like a yuck feeling vs I need to go to the E.R. Is that normal? Has anyone else experienced this?
  16. Hey VsgSarah, sry im late been having a hard time with this revision surgery. Thanks for taking over, Plz add me. SW for the 4th was 146.8. My GW is 140. I'll post next weigh in tomorrow, Lord willing. And Happy new year to all:)) gl

    The Second Time Around

Just went through same revision in same time frame It's like night and day, you should be very happy The only thing I might "warn" you about is adhesion/scar tissue from 1st procedure, I was 8.5 hours on the table but all came out well email any questions I can help with Tomas090@hotmail.com
  19. I had the same problem. I am 4 months post op. My surgeon said the same with me on way too much scar tissue and couldn't get revision done. So he did did DS!.. So far so good on weight loss, but OMG, my stool and gas is so foul it is unbelievable. Someone in the hospital told my husband something to buy for me to take to help with that. He looked while I was in the hospital but never wrote it down....He and I sure wished he remembered it now!

    Who's still around?

I am back. Lol looking for people who had failed lap bands and revised to a different surgery. I am leaning towards RNY.

Thanks. My band was just never the same once I got pregnant. I go for a endoscopy with a biopsy Monday morning and when all the results are back then we can figure out what surgery to revise to and if I need to have 2 separate surgeries or just 1.

  23. I had surgery on Thursday January 7,2016 n it was a revision form lap band to sleeve! A lot of scare tissue but I'm doing good! Been walking and sipping on hot tea, ice chips and water! Get the gas put! But I'm restless, want to be home in my own bed
  24. @@Lina123 I hope and pray that you get the support you need...we all need to be supported by those who are closest to us...it makes a huge difference. Thank you for replying to the topic. I'm sorry to hear about your issue w/GERD. My surgeon discussed the possible complications and concerns with me going with the sleeve, especially after reviewing the results of my Upper GI, and I finally made my decision to go with the RNY-Gastric Bypass. I have dealt with GERD for way too long and I'm ready to be rid of the nagging feelings associated with it. However, I'm also nervous about too much weight loss after having the RNY procedure, but also ask myself what is too much? Lol. I'm scheduled for surgery on Feb. 8th and I'm hoping that the loss will taper off at a "normal weight" and I am finally able to have a normal and healthy body composition. I look forward to discussing the weight-loss and maintenance plans with the Dietitian in a few weeks. As far as revisions, this has been a hot topic on this site and I'm sure if you search under the Gastric Bypass sections, you will find some answers. I wish you the best.

    RNY or DS?

I don't know enough about DS.In late December I got a revision from lapband to bypass...very happy with bypass so far but it is early. You need a highly skilled surgeon for these procedures.
