    Emotions....

Hello everyone. My name is Tabitha and I am 27 years of age. I will be banded on August 24th. I am feeling so many emotions as the days go by. I feel excitement, worry, tears, and joy. Today my emotions took a turn for the worse. My husband told me to call my insurance company to make sure everything is going to be paid for by my insurance. When I called the man said the most out of pocket cost I would have is 1,000. I told my husband and he said that he could not help me pay for that 1,000 since we are in a financial strain as it is. My husband works and I only have 2 weeks left of unemployment. Though its not much what I get I am grateful for it. Well as soon as my husband told me this I started to cry. I truly felt all alone in my own situation. I texted my good friend kde who has been banded for only a week. She advised me to call my patient care rep Angela, which I did. I was all tears. Angela put me in a conference call with the billing department. They said all I would pay is a deductible of 300 dollars. Without me mentioning it Angela said I could come in the office tomorrow and fill out some paper work to have the deductible paid by them since I am having financial hardship. I felt so blessed and relieved. I was literary not going to pursue the surgery if I had an out of pocket cost of 1,000. So tomorrow I fill out that paper work. I am really happy with my life right now. I think this surgery is just icing on the cake. I am a newly wed with a wonderful husband. In 2 years we plan to try to start a family. This surgery will surely make that possible. I guess I want to say no matter the emotions you just have to push them to the side and persevere. God is good and he will never let you down.
  2. Hello, I am new to the forum, but I have had my band for almost 9 months now. I think I have pretty good restriction overall, I had my last fill in early May. For the last week I have been starving and eating more than I usually do. Normally I get full on small amounts of food. I am trying to figure out is my restriction slowly going away or is because of hormonal changes such as my monthly cycle due. I am currently pretty tight in the mornings, I usually gurgle mornings, but this morning I was able to eat food, like a couple slices of bacon and 1 egg and small portions of grits, I was starving...normally I don't do Breakfast...and yesterday I was able to eat about 2 pieces of baked chicken and a small portion of sweet potatoes and creamed spinach for dinner....by the way I don't PB, I do get the stuck feeling sometimes if I eat too quick, so I am wondering if I am due for another tweak in my current fill....any thoughts , I have never been overfilled and I want to avoid it, if possible...

Happy banding ann. Day to me!

Today it has been one month. It has been an eventful month. The last week has been a challenge, I eat what I want. - i hurt sometimes when I eat. I don't eat anywhere close to the foods or the amount of food I use to - I just haven't lost anymore weight. The other thing is I am not getting full. - Hint from reading blogs I think I need a fill. I go back to the dr. in 2 weeks, it isn't going to come soon enough. Some days are hard, everyone knows I have had this surgery and they are expecting the pounds to just pile off I guess. I have increased my physial activity - so maybe we will get it all figured out - one month out - i feel good- just wanting to see some results for putting myself through this and my family. I am still excited, and will continue down this path until my goals have been conquered.
  4. Hi Nikki Sorry I didn't see this until today. I had the band for almost 10 years and after about 7 years, I started having lots of complications. I always had difficulty with fills and unfills because my port flipped almost immediately after surgery. I did fairly well with the band and lost about 100 pounds. However, I regained almost all of that weight after 2 children, 5 months of bed rest and an injury from running. I started looking into revision mid-2010 and was given the choice of RNY (which I found out I couldn't have due to my severe anemia) or sleeve. I wasn't happy with either of those choices so after about 6 months of research I found out about the plication. I was going to go to Mexico but ended up finding a doctor here in Southern California who had just started doing plication. I was his very first banded plication patient, which was scary but somebody's gotta be first!! Anyway - I've lost a bit over 42 pounds in 15 weeks. I'd like to lose about another 50-60 pounds. I started at 283 and am now at 240.5. I am actually surprised that I've lost as much weight as I have considering I'm a revision patient. I track my food but not religiously. I ensure that I eat 50-70 grams of Protein and drink about 60-80 oz. of Water. I do exercise almost everyday and walk/jog about 2-3 miles per workout. I completed my first 5K a few weeks ago and am planning on wogging (walk/jogging) a 10K July 23. I have averaged about 10 pounds per month and have lost 42% of my EWL (excess weight loss). I've gone from a 22/24 (26 top) to loose 20s and almost fitting into 18s! My goal is to be around 170-180ish which for me is a size 12/14. I don't want to be much smaller than that as I prefer that size on me and so does my husband! PS-I have not had any fills in my band and I plan on leaving it completely empty.
  5. Give it time. I wasn't feeling full then I made the mistake of eating solids 6 days out and I can't believe I did that. Because now I'm two weeks out and just eating mashed Beans at 2oz a sitting is hard. Sent from my SM-G530T using the BariatricPal App I think maybe ur body and mind needs time to adjust Sent from my SM-G530T using the BariatricPal App Nvm. I guess I misunderstood ur post Sent from my SM-G530T using the BariatricPal App

    willpower has the band!!

Hey petunia, I was banded 1/13 and had my first fill 3/7. It hasn't given me enough restriction to keep from being starved between meals. I'm getting all of my Protein, Water, exercising etc. and I haven't lost an ounce since my fill. I think I'll call to schedule another one too. You're not alone!
  7. Anybody banded locally? I have another week for mines. Sent while fleeing from naughty food.

    Dermatitis

I have some Omega 3-6-9 oil (3 different omegas) from Whole Foods. It is a little nutty tasting- not bad, blends nicely into a few oz of pureed soup. I recommend it. It's called "Udu's Oil." Good luck.
  10. great news!!! today is the best day i have felt since coming home !!! I had my first shake today it went down like a champ !!! Vanilla whey yum lol, better than chicken broth, jello and isopure thats for sure lol. On my surgury date I weighed 259Ibs and I am 5"8, today 4 days later I weigh 245Ibs, thats just crazy i havent been doing much walking I feel pretty sore still, but I think the diet really helped clean out my system, still havent taken the kids to the pool lol if you know what i mean, but i am hopeful that it will happen this week sometime:). So Today I feel pretty good, i woke up fresh at 6am, bright eyed and bushy tailed, no coffee ! no tea ! just me !!!! This is a huge difference, before VSG, I would sleep in late, had nooooo energy what so ever and felt like a dump truck just hit me when i would wake up litteraly draggin ass till about 12 or 1pm, then have 2 huge cups of coffee just to get fire under my butt and then feel very anxious and jittery full of energy with no patients lol, my whol attitidue feels different, i can actually say i feel healthy, refreshed and energized i feel like my insides are all clean and running on top notch fuel, my thoughts are more optomistic and i am not getting stressed out as easy. Its like day and night. What a difference you dont realize it until you change and look back and go geez that was me, that is what fast food really does to you in not only hurts your body, grabs you like and addiction, slaps you around but also makes you mentally blahhhhh, i am having the greatest day and today i will remember even in pain from my wounds, i am very happy i made the decision that i did to have the VSG, i havent been so sure but today was that day where you wake up and say thank you god for getting me through the dark, i am finally seeing the light the brighter life that shines on the world. yeay !
  11. 4 weeks post op . I had a hiatal hernia I was not aware of at the time of my surgery and my surgeon fixed it while I was getting my sleeve. Well, I have no idea what happened but since my surgery I get acid reflux / heartburn (I don’t know which it is ) everyday at some point in the day. Not sure what causes it. I have a Doctor appointment Monday. But first how do I know which it is or is it both ? And most importantly..... is it going to go away. I’m so sad and discouraged ! I don’t look forward to such an uncomfortable feeling. HELP ! Anyone else had this ? hw: 246 sw: 235 cw: 215 gw: ? Sleeved :Dec 19, 2017
  12. I forgot to say you have to chew, chew, chew, chew until things are mushy. That also helps me with my eating issue. FYI- make sure the hunger you are feeling is true hunger and not head hunger. I am at 12 weeks and have to miss meals before I realize I need to eat something. Sent from my iPad using VST

    VA Sleep Center Doctor

I really have had very bad experience's with the VA and my hubby!! It took them 3 years to tell us that he has Cancer on his kidney!! It was horrible. An advocacy told us that we have a case and we should get a lawyer and sue the VA. But we can't find a lawyer who will take on the GOVERMENT. Sad but oh so true. Our local VA is the ones that took so long. Now FINALLY he is going up tomorrow for his Preop appointment. Then on the May 30th they are going to do a ablation which destroys the Cancer and then they will keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't come back. He is way lucky that it is a very slow growing tumor. BTW we ARE NOT using this VA. We are going to Portland, Oregon to that VA. The great thing about this is the well known excellent hospital OREGON HEALTH AND SCIENCE UNIVERSARY is connected to the VA and they work together on cases if needed. I totally get what you are saying about the VA. I can say this because he was in the NAVY, I get what they call CHAMP VA I get all of my meds by mail free and I don't have to pay co-pay when I see my DR's. I get better treatment than he does because I get to pick my own DR. I'm grateful as all get out. II will have this for the rest of my life!! YAY me
  15. Please advise! I am 2 years out and lost most of my weight and then have gradually gained back 30 pounds by eatting bad foods. I've have 3 fills and 1 unfill. I am scheduled to have another fill on Thursday because my volume has increased so much. For a few months I started drinking Diet Coke again because my nurse said that there has been no proof that it can harm you. But I've since given it up again, about 1 month now. I'm afraid I've stretched my pouch. I also drink during meals most times. But I can eat sub sandwiches, bread of any kind, and of course all the bad stuff. In fact, I haven't found one food that I cannot eat. I am not eating junk although I have eatten a lot of carbs. I don't exercise regularly either. I'd like some advise because it will cost me $150.00 for this fill. My nurse is going to try and talk me out of the fill since the last time (over a year ago) I was too tight. I'm so disappointed in myself and don't know how to get back the motivation I once had. Thanks, Jeanie

    a bad feeling....

I had UHC with zero co-morbidities and a BMI of 41 as well and was approved within 3 days so stay positive!! I didn't have to do the 6 nutritionist visits prior to my surgery so that's kind of weird, but you have access to UHC's requirements (which I'm sure you called and learned about those before starting this) and as long as you meet what they have listed, you should be good to go!

    Some advice/suggestions needed!

I live about 3 hours drive from the hospital where my RNY was performed. I do not remember any extreme discomfort on the way home.
  18. Hi Cervidae, My drain came out the next day while still in the hospital at the same time they removed the catheter. My instructions are to change the bandage every day for the week leading up to my follow up appointment. I've been told to walk 3-4 times a day and I've been doing three. My walk is like an old woman's shuffle right now but improving. I take the pain meds every 4 hours around the clock. I thought this would keep me up but I've been waking up to pee every 2 hours anyway. The first thing I ate was a sugar free popsicle. I had three small bites and was done. Next I had about 3 tablespoons of broth and was full. So far that's all I've eaten. The feeling of fullness is very different but I'm trying to pay attention so I don't vomit the first week as that can set back progress. I'm tired and nap day and night with no full sleep of the 6-8 hour variety. The thing I've found hardest is getting in and out of bed. I'm using the log roll technique which helps relieve some but not all the pressure on my stomach muscle. I won't lie. It hurts. But I'm getting better at it.
  19. Hi Emjay, I don't have this problem myself however my sister is Banded and she has exactly this. Travelling for anything more than about 2-3 hours and she has about 48hrs of tightness. Unfortunately she has not found anything that helps - sorry. She's been banded for 2 years and tried lots of things but has just come to the conclusion that travelling is like a fill - take it easy for 48hrs after.
  20. I had my band placed 6 weeks ago. First 2 weeks were great! Then the trouble started - couldn't keep anything down for 3 weeks, was told it was "soft tissue" swelling - last week doc went it to "unbuckle" the band - and I came out with a drain, NG tube, antibiotics, and doc said "your stomach looked like a hard piece of rubber - an abscess had formed next to the band btw my stomach and liver - finally went home - no band - just lots of antibiotics to hopefully keep the abscess from returning and aspiration pneumonia in the process. Lap band surgery - $3200 for "what insurance doesn't pay"; complications - 1 week out of work with no pay - hopefully living through this with no more hope of losing weight - priceless. I have lost 25lbs in this nightmare of 6 weeks and still keep nothing down except liquids - and sometimes the antibiotics. The band is an invasive, tricky surgery and although my surgeon states she has never seen someone reject the band like this - I don't believe her. I would NEVER recommend this surgery to anyone. I said 2 months ago that I was going to lose the weight or die trying - it looks like the latter is more likely to be true. Orange Coast Memorial Center for Obesity is not where you want to place your life.
  21. I was banded on 3/3 and I too have a tightness in my chest. I think part of it is gas and soreness from the surgery. Everything should be fine but if it continues I would speak with your dr. Good luck!!
  22. adagray, How did WW work for you, do you still follow it? How do you do it? Just break your points up into three meals and two Snacks? Very curious about this, as I have been thinking about doing WW (flex or core) for a while. I am holding at 16lbs in three weeks lost...nothing to shake a stick at I know, just curious if I can up the losses a little. K

    I'm Scheduled for December 26th!

I have not been scheduled have to get insurance approval which should be turned in this week then scheduled. I hope it is very soon because I need a hernia repair when I have surgery and I am in so much pain from it. I will push them as fast as possible because of this problem. Monday will be my last doctor approval then off to insurance. I did talk to the coordinator and she said insurance (Humana) takes up to 30 days for approval and since I have so many comorbities I really don't see a problem with approval.
  25. Hey everyone, So Im so excited I got the call yesterday for the date. I got next week to visit with my surgeon to start my pre-op diet. I have read so much, I know no amount of prepping will really get me prepared but Im ready. I enjoy exercising.. I cant wait to get back to it. Have any of you took measurement before ? to compare. I used to scale everyday then switched to measurements when I didnt like the scale. Hoping I have over success and balance. Dr's office said my goal weight should be 168-170.. Im currently 250.. I already know I may lose alot of my women figure hoping I can preserve some with squats and in house exercising. My family is supporting me and ready for this just as much as I am. I have my husband and 3 children. Good luck to everyone, and keep up all your hard work.
