I recently had the gastric sleeve and have no appetite or require for thirst what should I do

Okay, I'm an RN and I have a fabulous trick that's worked for my SUPER constipated cancer patients. Drink 8 oz of very warm prune juice followed by 8oz of hot coffee black. I know it sounds disgusting to some (I happen to love prune juice), but it will get the job done. I had a poor guy the other night who hadn't pooped in a week, I gave him my little cocktail and by morning he'd had a HUGE BM. If you can't do the 8oz, just get down as much as you can, any amount will help.

Well all, I had my gall bladder surgery yesterday. I feel like I just got run over by a Mack truck and then it backed up and went over me again I'm having a lot of gas pains but it has settled in the lower right side of my belly. Moving and burping helps alot! Dr said this will comparable to the pain I will have with my VGS. If that is the case, I think its doable but definately uncomfortable. Around 2 am, I had to get in the recliner to get some sleep and relief. Hubby is awesome. He's taking care of the house and the kiddos, he even came downstair and slept on the sofa in case I needed some thing. Oh and Get This!!! They counted 50 gall stones!!!!!! I couldn't believe it. On a great note, the dr is finally able to put in for my VGS and should here something in a week or two!!! Maybe I'll be a November sleever!!! What so you think? Is having your gall bladder remove feel like a VGS operation?

Yes, thank you for sharing your experience. I'm so sorry you went through all of that. My first two pregnancies I threw up around the clock for 40 weeks and it was miserable. I am concerned about the nutrients for the baby and weight gain. I have an appointment with my bariatric surgeon next week to talk about my specific situation. Were hit able to eat enough before you got pregnant and then it stopped? Or were you not getting enough yet even before getting pregnant?

So, I was sleeved on 3/25. I have no problems eating what I should be eating or getting the amount of protein I should be getting, but this past 4-5 days the scale has not moved. I was wondering if that was normal or if anyone else has experienced this. I am starting to wonder if this surgery was the right decision for me or if my body is just saying what the heck did you do to me? I have lost 15 lbs since surgery, but nothing in the past 4-5 days. Just curious. Thanks!

Well I've been in a stall for ages. It happens. I'm determined now more than ever to break it. Someone said to me " well your not losing any more weight are you?" This wasnt said out of spite, just on observation . But dang! It bummed me out. She was right though, I haven't . Well, my daughters just informed me that they are throwing us a 30 year anniversary party the last week of August! I can't believe we've been married 30 years! Anyway, I need to get going here. I went through my older posts, which I highly recommend. It reminded me of how far I've come. But I feel stalled mentally . Does that make sense to anyone? So what I'm asking for here is a pep talk! Dozens of pep talks! Arrrrrgh!!!

You'll prob have a good week on the scales. Ha!

I am allowed to eat mushies currently, but just can't seem to want to put my food in a blender and then eat it. Something about that reminds me of my daughter's baby food so that is definitely not happening. I can't wait for another two weeks so I can have mushies...YAY!!

Had to have my "infected" band removed two weeks after surgery
jmh replied to jmh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm laying here at 6 in the morning in totally agony over the pain of 2 surgery's in 2 weeks. I appreciate your last response and I think it's a good idea to ask for the band,I will see my doctor today and ask him for it. Looking at your success I am especially touched. I was 191 pre-op and 181 when I went in for surgery. I fluctuated b/t 181 and 183 during the 2 weeks that I had my band. Before I had the surgery I was looking for people who were under 200 who had the surgery and didn't get but one response and she had just had the surgery and no results. Looking at you, down to 123 now and running your first 5 k, you remind me of where I was going and what this journey was supposed to be about. I am so thankful that I am okay and that this didn't turn out more serious but now I have to say goodbye to this dream that I thought was going to become a reality and that really sucks right now. God has different plans for me and I am completely and totally faithful in His plan but it's just hard to re-adjust. After reading and resarching so much about the lab band, I know that it is a life saver for so many and that it transforms lives but I honestly don't think I could ever put it back in. I am in so much pain and I've put my family through a lot and I don't think I could do that again. Like I said, God's got a plan and I'm listening loud and clear as to what he wants me to do next. I'm actually feeling motivated to the challenge of losing weight without it.. not that it's not challenging with it too. I think we may take the money and invest in a trainer - not just 4 to 6 sessions - but someone who is with me always, pushing me and teaching me. I also think this process has taught me a lot more about nutrition than I knew. I never put heavy emphasis on lean Proteins and low carbs. I always did low fat, or counted points with weight watchers. My body really responded to the high Protein way by losing 10 pounds in a week and a half in my pre-op diet. So I'm trying to look at the upside. Sorry for the long post... you just gave me a painful reminder as to where I wanted to be by this time next year. I am proud of you and I wish you the best of luck with your rocking new body!!!! Take care. -
Why can't you play volley ball? SOme people do not start loosing till they start eating regular foods, others loose a ton. Some people loose it fast others loose it slowly. All seem to stall for a while. The things I always tell people to check...... (and I need to recommitt to!) 1) are you gettingin all your Protein ? 2) are you drinking enough Water / liquids? 3) is your Fiber enough? (I have to take the special K fiber water.....it has 40 % and that always makes it go better for me) 4) are you getting 20-30 minutes of exercise at least three times a week? remember that stalls are normal and physics says eventually you will start to loose.......less in and more energy out means it will come off....just sometimes very slowly! (and we all hate that!) I wish you the best of luck and try to begin your knew life with the positive attitude, that your family is negative.....try to ignore that and go on and live your life!

Newbie Questions
OutsideMatchInside replied to Jazlynxx's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@ML573663 Yep, once submitted to insurance they approved it in less than a week. If your BMI is over 40, you don't have to jump through a lot of hoops. -
I voted no because I just eat normally, I dont avoid carbs or do high Protein, and I generally eat about 1500 calories a day. So no ketosis/breath problems here. But the 2 weeks on liquids after surgery - jeeze louise. Doug insisted we slept back to back! He said my breath was awful. My tongue also went disgustingly grey and slimy.
-
Did anyone find out tou had it right before surgery? I had a sleep study and I'm afraid I'd need a machine but I feel like it would push my surgery back idk. I'm in the last two weeks before surgery and I just want my last two approvals already!

Finally.... A Date!
sleevemeup replied to BustedBeauty's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It will go super fast! This is the 3rd time my date has changed since October, due to insurance issue, and then a herniated disc in my back. I am now on the 2 week count down and nothing is stopping me! -
Sleeved October 17th
Monya-Mental Change replied to Monya-Mental Change's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Actually, I didn't get to eat soft/puréed foods until 2 weeks post-op. I am curious about everyone's progress. I am down 19lbs since surgery, how about you? -
I have had depression for years, waaaayyyyyy before surgery. It has not gotten any worse/better 2 years post-op. I am a little happier overall and my self-esteem is much much higher with the weight loss. But the 2 weeks right after surgery, I was pissed at the world an was ready to fight anyone and everyone - for no reason I can figure out! But, for everything I've gone though, it was sooooooo worth it to be released from the Fat Suit I was trapped in and to realize the dream of being a normal sized person. But you gotta be willing to commit to the necessary changes it will entail. I was a rock bottom before I committed to surgery. You are stronger than you think. You CAN make BIG changes. Imagine yourself a year from now. What chances will you regret not taking? What opportunities will you regret having turned down? Certain sacrifices are worth it. I wish upon you the wisdom to know which ones are right.

Mine went away sometime in week 3. It was pain from the diaphragm, so I still feel it a little if I eat too much.

Techynerd, it sounds like we have adopted similar post surgical lifestyles in regards to being active. I am training for my first 5K run (in over 15 years) on Thanksgiving. I get to the gym 5-6 times a week and participate in a variety of fairly intense cardio workouts. I run 2-2.5 miles on the treadmill about 3x per week and do a lot of rowing on the ergometer. I attend 2 cycling classes each week. I have hit a stall for the last month. I have lost 90 pounds in 6 months and hit a wall. I know I'm eating correctly and definitely being very active. I record my food in MFP and take in about 1500-1700 per day. My Bodymedia fitness monitor says I usually burn about 3000 per day. I should be losing. What did you do when you hit these stalls? Congratulations on your success. I wish you long term successful consistency.

Hello Guys, I just hit the 1 year anniversary of my gastric sleeve surgery. I thought I would drop in and say "hi", as well as post a few comments on my experience. I do not post often, almost not at all, but I have really enjoyed reading others comments and posts and have found them to be helpful. If anything, it has been nice to read about other similar experiences and concerns. First, I would like to say that I am very happy that I made the choice to have weight loss surgery. I don't think I could have lost weight without it. I did not have any serious health issues before having the surgery, but I was over 400lbs, so issues like diabetes were probably just around the corner. Things have not always been easy, but I am very pleased with where I am at this point. 1 year from my surgery and I am down to 241lbs from my pre-surgery weight of 411lbs. That's 170lbs lost. What has that meant to me: Blood sugar, cholesterol all in great ranges. I am very active now (no more couch potato)I've become a gym rat and am going twice a day most days, in the morning and after work. I bought a bike and go trail riding often, on weekends I will tally around 20-25 miles of riding in one day. Ran my first 5K ever on Halloween weekend. Plan to do more as I want to improve on my time. Resting heart rate is in the low 50s from all the cardio. (Down from the high 70s before surgery). Love Tabata and HIIT training. Great for short intense workouts that really work up a sweat. Look it up on the internet. Started doing Muay Thai kickboxing again. Loved this 20 years ago when I was younger and lighter and am now getting back into it as the old guy. Much more sex with my wife Can now buy clothes at normal stores and don't have to go to the Big Mens store or sections anymore. People look at me differently and first impressions are much better. Not that I really cared about this before. Just generally feel better and less tired. What have I had issues with over the last year: Vitamin D keeps coming up just a little low, so upping supplementation. Still eat too fast at times (about once a month or so). This causes a very full feeling, sometimes causing me to throw up (or throwing up on purpose to give relief). Some joint issues in shoulders and knees from fitness activities. This has caused me to scale back on weight lifting and adapt some of my cardio routine. No more heavy lifting and have moved from treadmill to rowing machine. Still miss being able to chow down on a big sub sandwich. Going out to dinner isn't as fun. Extra skin. Gonna have to get a lower body lift at some point to take care of this. All this being said, the positives far outweigh the negatives. I got through my down times where I get sick of logging food in MyFitnessPal, or just don't feel like going to the gym. I've had to discover new ways of relaxing as most of my previous activities involved food. Now I bike ride, go to the gym, I even like to just go to a mall and window shop. I'm still trying to figure these things out. I feel great though and love the fact that I don't get out of breath going up stairs. I take a little pleasure when I see people who are thinner than me struggle with activities that I can do, like the 5K I ran recently. I also like that fact that while my kids have always loved me, I know they are proud of what I have done so far. I fit in better with me wife and kids because thankfully non of them have weight issues. Well, that's my one year story. I appreciate you getting this far in my long post and hope this helps some of you as your posts have helped me. I am still a work in progress and have about 30lbs to get to my goal weight. The weight comes off much slower now, how I miss the 5-10lb drops from early on after surgery. Now there are long plateaus and 1-2lb drops. But for the last 5 months I have averaged about 1-2lbs a week. Take care and I will post again when I hit my goal weight. Best advise I can give is not to dwell on the food you can't eat anymore (or the amounts), cheating every now and then is okay, just pick yourself up and keep moving. Be active, Techynerd

Old Habits Sneaking Back In
Kaywieny replied to Last Chance Sue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Sue, I'm not quite 3 months out, but I've had some old habits creep up and swallow me whole. I just experienced one while at work. I work overnights, and I work with some food-lovin' gals, so it is especially hard. Tonight I had chinese...pepper steak. Two hours later, some hot and sour Soup, an hour after that, teriyaki chicken on a stick. Chinese food is my downfall. Could I have done worse? Definitely. I don't want to think about sodium levels, and I'm not quite sure about the carb count in pepper steak. Not only that..but I do believe you could call the above grazing. My weight loss has been phenomenal so far, so when I make mistakes like this, I have to examine why and how I let it happen, but I have to DO something about it. I hate on myself, I feel sorry for myself, I mean, I have already given up so much (smoking, drinking, pastas, and breads), that it shouldn't FEEL like a crime to enjoy some Chinese food, or even some popcorn. Yet it does. SO...what to do about it.... Tomorrow (or today, after a nap) I'll be going out for a long walk, and I'll also slip back into liquids and puree's for three days, so I can get myself back on track. I think as 'early' sleevers, we are bound to experience these moments when old habits need to be addressed one way or the other... and that's okay, but you also need to think of all the reasons you had your surgery and the things you want to do; or even things you may have already gained. (Er...not weight...or the medical bill) I've definitely failed today, but I won't tomorrow. We can only do the best we can, and only we can decide what our best is. (I hope that makes sense.) -
I'm seeing my surgeon for pre-op consult. We're going to set a date for the surgery (hoping for the week of the 20th, but will take sooner if offered!) Just so excited, scared, relieved, inquisitive, determined....*sigh* I could probably go on for days. I'm just ready. I'm ready for this weight to be taken off of my shoulders...figuratively and literally. I can't wait to be sitting on the losers' bench with all of you post-op'ers.
-
Are you mixing your shakes with water or skim milk? Because the firs time I tried drinking my shake I mixed it with water and i couldnt drink it... Now i only have 4 shakes a day since I mix it with skim milk... And to be honest I am not even drinking 4 since I run out of time... ive been drinking more like three and one cup of chicken broth- and trust me- not hungry one bit... You really should stick to the diet because your surgery is around the corner and you wint have a choice then...

3 weeks out and have a question
SleeveNZ replied to pattycake71963's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Aim for 10lbs a month. Thats what I was told is the average monthly loss. If you go by weekly you will be disappointed when you experience stalls etc.
