A Good Carb Replacement for Long Distances Post RNY
jess9395 replied to Sojourner's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Thank you so much for sharing your practices and options for carb replacement with me! I knew that I could not be the only bariatric patient who travels long distances for exercise... My races are next month...so I will begin to try some of your suggestions this week. I also use oatmeal for carbs before the race! And love a banana afterward! Some oatmeal ideas I love--- If I am in a hurry I use PLAIN instant oatmeal and mix in half a scoop of Protein powder (my favorite is Syntrax Matrix PB cookie) or some PB2. Overnight oats--in a small mason jar I mix about 1/4c (I use a protein powder scoop so however much that is) steel cut oats, some flavor--protein powder or pumpkin purée or berries or Greek yogurt or SF torani syrup or a mix of these--then some liquid--coconut milk, almond milk, fair life milk--maybe a few nuts on top or shredded unsweetened coconut. Then close the lid and shake. Set in fridge overnight. They keep for 2-3 days. -
Status of my 3 day liquid (ish) diet... It has been fairly easy so far.... Protein shake for breakfast. The weight watcher veg soup w chicken and white beans for lunch and dinner. Snacks included yogurt, herbal teas and I needed a protein bar yesterday afternoon before a big meeting. But all in all, it has been a success and has helped with some of the bloating from holiday eating. Tomorrow I'll integrate other protein. But so far, doing good without carbs (ie bread).

I'm 8 weeks out & still get the 'stuck' feeling at times too. If I concentrate on chewing more & really moist foods I do better. Doesn't happen with yogurt or cottage cheese, but does with anything heavier. Not drinking with meals is also hard when you get the stuck feeling!

1 year and 3 months post surgery and I can't control my hunger !
TheRealMeIsHere! replied to carfeli2004's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
@@carfeli2004 Things that help me are adapting my recipes. Cauliflower makes a great 'rice', mashed 'potatoes', cheddar 'tater'-tots, 'mac' & cheese, etc...... Spaghetti squash (my fave is with my homemade fat free cheese sauce and maybe a turkey hot dog) FF/SF Cannoli cream made with FF ricotta Lasagna made with roasted slices of zucchini and eggplant Flourless Protein pancakes with unsweetened applesauce on top Dannon Light & Fit Greek yogurt I even have some recipes for super decadent protein muffins, brownies and cakes. Using either Protein powder and/or Beans Quest bars and chips (did you know that if you cut up and bake a chocolate chip cookie dough one, it tastes like little chocolate chip cookies!!??, watch carefully when baking, they only take a few minutes) If you want recipes, feel free to ask, I love to share! -
How much volume can your pouch hold?
Djmohr replied to cocoa8utter's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
For me it completely depends on the food. I am 15 months out. If I eat yogurt or soft foods like that, I can eat about a cup max. If I eat a salad with some dense Protein I can eat about 2oz of the protein and a cup of the salad. If I am eating dense protein and veggies I find I am lucky to eat 2oz of protein and 1/4 to 1/2 cup of veggies. I do however stay fuller longer on the dense protein and veggies vs. all the other stuff. For me things like soup and yogurt are slider foods which slip through my pouch pretty darn fast. Unless of course that soup is more like a cross between a stew and a soup and is very meaty. Yesterday I made beef vegetable barley soup homemade and I let it become more like a stoup as Rachel Ray would call it. About 3/4 cup kept me full for hours and I could barely finish it. It had about 18 grams of protein in it so an excellent option. -
2nd week post op smoothie ideas?
A New KK replied to melk86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor said not to use a straw because it adds air to your intestinal tract causing bloating and gas pain. I found an unflavored Protein powder GENEPRO that I've been using to add to broth because I was bored with Protein shakes. I didn't find a cinnamon bun flavored one on amazon that wasn't too bad and to up the protein I added greek yogurt to my shakes. -
@@SweetPotato I have been trying to count. I know there are times that I don't chew 30 times. But I even have discomfort with foods such as yogurt and eggs. Doesn't matter what it is.

Weight gain.... :(
WLSResources/ClothingExch replied to marfar7's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Take the pressure off yourself. You don't "need" to do anything. There's no gun pointed at you. Do it because you want to do it. Do you log what you eat? Plan ahead? Doing both makes a great difference. When I'm eating properly for my band (which I haven't done in eons, but I have regained much of what I'd lost in the first 15 months), I enter a few days or so of meals and snacks so that I'm sure of my nutrition intake, calories, carbs, et al. Snacks get entered last and I always leave room for a yogurt or a something (sorry, I had a nice variety, but it's been long enough that I need time to reconstruct the list). My pre-planned menu was never set in stone. I made changes at will and that was easy because I had the "template" to work on. It's as important to track intake when you go off track. The written/electronic record helps to refocus and, in the case of a rate-of-loss slowdown, to see where adjustments can be made in hope of picking it up again. Don't be discouraged if tweaking doesn't change things. As long as you do the right things, everything will even out in the end. But you already know that. -
Any 12/8/15 Sleeves out there
ezbeinggreen replied to mizzvickie72088's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved 12/7 so just one day before you! Hopefully that is OK?! I am in the same boat. I definitely feel hunger and some days feel like I can eat more than I should compared to some other folks who even at 1 - 3 months out are still really restricted to just a few spoonfuls. Especially soft foods like yogurt, soups, etc. I can definitely eat more yogurt than say chicken or fish. For example, I can eat an entire 5.3 oz greek yogurt now but maybe 2-3 oz of flaky fish. But as long as I keep my calories in check I feel like I am OK. My doc had me on purees and soft foods from the day I got home from surgery so maybe that is the difference? The people I know who are super restricted were on clear and full liquids for weeks before moving to purees. I am already eating regularly textured food at this point. The good thing about that is I can drink pretty much anything and tolerate just about any foods so getting my Protein in isn't difficult mechanically - I am just really sick of Protein shakes and don't want to drink them anymore! I started working out again today, took a really long walk this morning (I need to work back up to the gym). Felt good though - I am down 20 pounds since surgery (25 total since pre-op diet) and I felt the difference. -
I drink 5 unjury shakes a day (one can be made into chicken flavored soup) I can have 6 servings a day of s/f pudding, unflavored applesauce, s/f Jello, oatmeal, light yogurt and 1/2 cup cooked veggies I add the cooked veggies to my soup so my mind thinks it's vegetable soup lol I've been adding seasoning to all of it so its not so bland.

Getting enough protien/calories/fluids in to be able to work with trainer at gym
JamieLogical replied to Steph Anie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You didn't specify how far out you are from surgery. That's pretty critical information, since how much and what you can eat is very dependent on how recently you were sleeved. I had to really push myself up to at least 800 calories a day before I tried any more intense workout than walking. Less than 800 calories and I just did not have the energy for serious exercise. Once I was able to work out, I found that a good Protein snack with some carbs before a workout helped get me through. I would mix 15 grams of this: http://www.naturevalley.com/nv-products/oats-n-honey-protein-granola/ with a container of Dannon Light & Fit Greek yogurt: http://www.lightandfit.com/light-yogurt/light-and-fit-greek/raspberry And that really helped. Post work-out, I found I needed sugar to get my blood sugar up, otherwise I was dizzy. So I would eat 5-7 gummy bears. Then I would follow that up with a high protein dinner about an hour later. -

How to increase protein intake?
TreeHuggerinAB replied to JessicaMarieee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I pretty much have a strong dislike for all whey protein powders. I find the best way for me to keep my protien (and water) intake up is to mix 3/4 cup non fat greek yogurt with 1 cup skim milk (even more protein) and 1 cup water. I will then add a little bit of mango or blueberries (something with no seeds) for some healthy sweetness, and throw it all in my nutri bullet. Way yummy! 27 grams of protein. -

rnsamantha replied to princesswarrior's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Greek yogurt with berries for breakfast, beef barley soup and a cheese string for lunch, 2 premier protein shakes (1 for dinner, 1 post workout). Unfortunately I also caved and had 2 brownies at work. Made a resolution to recommit to tracking ALL my food (good or bad). Hoping it helps me rethink caving to cravings. I've been getting lax on the carbs ???? -
Any 12/21/15 sleevers: How are you doing?
GibbsGirl replied to mabarbee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was released to soft foods today. Doctor was please with my progress, he also understood I am having to get my protein away from The more milk type shakes. I was able to eat one egg, it was good but I did have a unnaturally full feeling. I tried yogurt this afternoon and it was a no go. I'm thinking milk type products are out for a while. I am worried about my protein and am buying unjury (powder) tomorrow. A bit disappointed but it's a process right. So egg drop soup and water tonight. Whoo hooo!!! -

I was lactose intolerant until 3 months out. But only like straight milk, yogurt, and premier shakes. I can consume them now with no issues. I never had a problem with cheese though.. which was odd. I did drink lactaid during my lactose intolerance stage.

I think it's time to mention the noble avocado. Soft, easy to digest, lubes the insides, has good fats, and is considered a super food. Mash with fork and some Greek yogurt. And some nutritional yeast.... Yum. -
At two weeks I was still in my "full liquids" phase, so I was having protein shakes, strained cream soups, and yogurt. My favorite strained cream soups were cream of shrimp and Progresso's Chicken Cheese Enchilada.

I really wanted a new taste this morning so I tried Egg Beaters and cooked them like scrambled eggs. I was able to eat them no problem! I usually can't eat scrambled eggs without ketchup (a habit from when I was a kid) but I was out of ketchup so I was brave and added a tsp of mild organic salsa. Salsa did fine in my tummy too! The egg kept me satisfied longer than the yogurt I have been eating has. -
@@samcl1 If I only ate when i was hungry, i wouldn't be eating much of anything! I'm not hungry--most of the time. I was told to eat six small meals a day, period. I have a hard time gettng them all in because I don't start my day until about 9am. But I try my best. i drink Protein shakes for two of those meals, and small little amounts of yogurt, pureed food, cottage cheese etc for the other meals. Applesauce. Baby food, stages 1 and 2. Good luck!

It's great to have such a great forum like this. As I was reading your post it was as if it was reading my own story. I had my surgery on 12/28/15. I feel like I am starving all day. Between sipping on water and protein throughout the day for breakfast I eat 1/2 Greek yogurt thinned with water. For lunch I eat 6oz blended split pea soup, and the same for dinner. Even after eating a whole 6oz I don't feel full. I read others stories and they say they are stuffed after 2oz or just a few bites. I see a lot of people say it's head hunger but it just does not seem like that's the case. Besides the pain and war wounds it doesn't feel like I had the surgery. I don't know why I thought by having surgery it would be different and I wouldn't be able to eat the amounts I am and would feel full and not want to eat like a lot of others I read out there. Very frustrating.

Has anyone found the journey after surgery easy?
Stayc_b_me! replied to WannabeH's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I thought the 2 week pre-op liquid diet was bad after the surgery (had surgery 12/28/15) that was a piece of cake to post-op. It's been difficult for me because I have always been an emotional eater and highly addicted to food. I don't know why I thought after my surgery my addiction and behaviors would be different. I feel like I am starving all day. Between sipping on water and protein throughout the day for breakfast I eat 1/2 Greek yogurt thinned with water. For lunch I eat 6oz blended split pea soup, and the same for dinner. Even after eating a whole 6oz I don't feel full. I read others stories and they say they are stuffed after a few bites. Besides the pain and war wounds it doesn't feel like I had the surgery and I am more emotional and irritable then ever. Also frustrated because I was Diabetic before surgery taking 2000mg Metformin, Glipizide, Byetta and Large units of insulin twice a day. Here almost a week later my blood sugars have been staying mid to high 200's without meds and I am scared my Diabetes will not be better or in remission. I hope I don't end up regretting this surgery...sigh
