    Any MAY sleevers???

Hi All. Hows it going? How are you guys feeling 10 months post op? Are you where you want to be? How have your goals stayed the same or changed? I was sleeved on May 2 2018, and things have gone very smoothly for me, overall. I have lost 100 pounds, but Im afraid things have really slowed down for me. I haven't lost weight in the last month or so. I have been careful not to track my weight every day, or even every week so I don't become obsessed, but I have been staying around 189 consistently. The winter weather has kept me from being very active, and Im feeling a little bit down about it. Id like to keep losing, and obviously I know I need to get moving more. Just wondering how things are going for my fellow May friends
  2. I don't know if you diaphragm will be quite ready after only 10 days. Even in April you might still be very tender.

    Feeling Defeated

When I first had surgery, my goal weight was 168. That was decided by the surgeon and the nutritionist. We have a whole new crew at the office now. The physician that I saw said that "sometimes bodies have a comfort zone. My body may be happy at 200." Don't get me wrong. I liked being around the 200 mark. I just think I could do better. At 200, I was a size 10 jean. I started in 24. I just feel like with there advice, I am settling and this is the new norm.

    Nutribullet vs Ninja

Agree with you @GradyCat some people may not use it for anything. I think if you already owned one of these things it's a plus. I love smoothies and make them a lot. Otherwise I'd have to spend $10-$12.00 a day on smoothies and the prices are even higher when you start to add protein to the shake. I find a lot of the smoothies places in the NYC add orange juice/apple juice for the base liquid while, I add water and plain yogurt and sometimes almond butter. The fruits are already sweet on their own.

    Nutribullet vs Ninja

I bought a Farberware $19 at Wal-Mart, shoot I thought , it looks like the "Big Guys" maybe just a less powerful motor. First 2-3 times it preformed adequate, fine I thought , things are gonna be fine, then I decided to try making a blueberry smoothie, darn thing locked up tighter than a prison door. When a mess I got, and trying to free the container, shake container did loosen although the power blades did not and there I was in Lake Purple Pain. Spend a little more, get something a little better, might have worked to blend water and powders but failed me when I need it most. Now I own a Nutriblast, gonna go make me a "Good for you" smoothie, and I have faith in this one to work. Even if my Previous Pouch isn't very big I'm going to try it! May the Power be with me!
  6. Hi everyone, I’ve been a long time reader of this forum, but a first time writer 😁. Today marks 5 months since I had the gastric sleeve and I thought I would share my journey so far. While I was prepping for the surgery, these posts helped me so much so maybe my story can help some people too. I was 310 lbs during my first meeting with my doctor. I didnt have to do a pre-op diet but between my first meeting and surgery, I lost 10 lbs so I was down to 300 lbs day of surgery. I weighed in today, and I am currently 210 lbs. I can’t even process it, I havent ever been this weight during my adult life. My surgery went very well, but I did have alot of complications after the surgery. You know how you read about them but never think it will actually happen to you.. well it happened to me haha. I was good for about a week after surgery, and then I got a kidney stone. Of course I automatically assumed something was going on with my sleeve because of my symptoms ( neausea, stomach pain, vomiting etc), ended up going to the ER after two days and it turned out to be a kidney stone. I also became dehydrated during this time because I couldn’t keep anything down. They didn’t admit me that day and I passed the stone but I was constantly throwing up and my stomach pretty much became irritated and inflamed. This lead to a vicious cycle of constantly trying to take in fluids but not being able to keep it down at all. I went through about a week of hell - would wake up neausous, throw up the entire day and go to sleep neausous. Neausea meds didn’t help, I couldnt even get them down because any sip of water would make me neusous. Eventually, I became super weak, my hands and feet started cramping up and honestly I felt like crap, regretted my decision to have this surgery. I was admitted to the hospital - my heart rate and bp were super low, my liver was getting messed up and I was beyond dehydrated. I stayed in the hospital for about 5 days and left feeling much better. hindsight, I should have gone to the doctor / hospital earlier... Since then, I have been feeling great! Its definitely an adjustment and some days are harder than others but so worth it! Even with all the complications I had starting out, I would go through with the surgery again in a heart beat. My life has changed because of it. I’m fairly young - 30 years old - and I had high blood pressure. My blood pressure is now normal. My knees don’t hurt anymore when I walk. I can keep up with friends. I have so much energy now. Its crazy but I didn’t realize how sluggish and tired I felt until I started not feeling that way.. My quality of life has improved so much and I am no where near done yet. I’m so grateful for my tool. Like everyone says, wls is definitely not the easy way out. I put in work physically and emotionally everyday. I work out 5 times a week and eat clean. Changing my mindset amd emotional attachment to food is a process. But I couldn’t have done it without the surgery for sure. Anyway sorry for the long post! But like I said reading about others’ experiences was so helpful to me so I figured I would share just incase others find it helpful as well.
  7. 10 days is a short window for full recovery. I know that you should have a lot of motion, but the incisions may still be painful for some movements. I can't say how it might be for deep breathing for singing. Sent from my ONEPLUS A6013 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Should I or shouldn’t I get Lap-Band

My thoughts are that if you have a lapband now you will almost certainly be looking at having some kind of revision within the next 10 years. They were thought to be safe because they were marketed as being reversible but in reality although they can be removed they also cause a lot of internal damage. Some people are successful, some aren't , some are initially but then band stops working and no amount of fills will change it. Your eating with a band also becomes very disordered. Most people struggle to eat one bite of healthy solid proteins such as steak, chops, chicken - often that 1 bite will get stuck and cause hours of intense pain. The same does not happen with unhealthy foods though - chocolate, cheese, cookies, cake go down with the greatest of ease. I had my band removed 7 weeks ago due to various issues and I revised to an RNY. At the moment the RNY is like heaven in comparison. I can eat small quantities of healthy food and be satisfied. Steak and chops have never tasted so good. Whatever you decide to do good luck but if I was in your shoes I would be postponing and doing some more research.

    HELP! Sleeve vs MGB?

Starting I was 254 BMI. 42.3 Six month supervised pre surgery weight loss 234 (bmi 38.9) day of surgery. My surgeon suggested the sleeve because I'm a type one diabetic. I still need to ingest sugar to raise my glucose levels. With the sleeve, I can do that without dumping syndrome. Average Weight Loss Results MGB On average, within the first 3 months after the surgery, patients lose about 30 percent of their excess body weight. Within a year, 60 to 75 percent of excess body weight is often gone. After 10 years, most patients still show a total weight loss of 70 percent of their excess body weight. Results depend upon the patient’s adherence to diet and lifestyle changes. Average Weight Loss Results Sleeve Individuals who have this surgery may lose up to 60 percent of their total body weight, sometimes even more, within two years. The likelihood of success greatly depends on the person’s adherence to lifestyle changes and eating habits. https://www.ALM.com/gastric-sleeve-vs-mini-gastric-bypass/

I haven’t had my surgery yet, but 10 hours is a long day and I’m guessing in a warehouse your pretty active. Maybe since you are only 2 months post op your body is trying to tell you to rest so you can heal. Take care of yourself.

    What just happened?

You can take in more soup because it’s a slider food . It goes in and right out fairly quickly. I could only get about 1/4 of a cup of soup down .I had my RNY on 2/12/19 so I’m only a few weeks out from you. I found that cream of wheats had to be very watery. And of course because we eat so slow the cooler they get the thicker they get. If you try them again thin them out a lot more by using your milk it adds more protein, and add a little nutmeg or cinnamon for taste. That pain will remind you to eat very small bites and slowly.
  13. I also quit 10 years ago with Chantix. Took me 6 weeks on the medication. Took my husband only 4 weeks. I don't recall when the cravings stopped but I believe I had my last cigarette at the end of the 2nd week. A quick google search says people generally pick a quit day between 8 and 35 days after starting the medication. So it's different for everyone. I hope it kicks in soon for you.
  14. I quit 10 years ago using Chantix. I smoked the normal amount for the first 2 weeks, got down to one final cigarette and have never picked up one again. It was a little hard at first to break a 30 year smoking habit but not as hard as I anticipated. There is no real reason to use the patches as well since the Chantix blocks the nicotine receptors in the brain.
  15. You can do it! (Oh god...the summer swimsuit season...*sob*) I can't wait to watch. Will you post your experiment here? Like your menus/volume you eat? I'm still trying to hit my 140lb goal. I was back down to 142, then up to 146. Today I'm at 144lbs. And yeah, would love to be able to drop 10 by the summer. It's so very hard. I'm back to doing 10K+ steps per day. It takes me longer than 1 hour, so I'm going as far as I can and consistently getting over 3miles/day. But little to no movement. Trying to trick my body with doing diff cals each day. Now trying to hold carbs to 30 whole carbs/day again to see if I can get over 0.5 on the keto meter. I did finish eating at 7pm last night, so today I started eating at 1pm so not to push the time window. Would like to start narrowing that back towards 7pm. Having a ginormous green smoothie for first meal. I also put psyllium husk in it (10g) but don't count it cuz it makes me so mad to see the calories and carbs from it when all I'm having is 30g carbs/day. I know it does count and that I'm lying to myself...oh well. LOL.
  16. My insurance actually requires seven consecutive monthly visits. My doctor required me to loose 10-12 pounds prior to surgery. This was in additional to his mandatory seminar and nutrition class. My tentative date is scheduled for April 15th, but the doctor gave me a specific diet to follow for at least two weeks prior to surgery. We were told flat out if the required weight loss didn't happen, there would be no surgery.

    April Sleevers

Congrats! I am new to this forum, but my tentative sleeve date is 04/15/2019. I am a little nervous, still working on the pre-op weight. I have eight more pounds to go.

    What just happened?

I had a similar incident a couple of weeks ago with a single poached egg with a bit of hollandaise sauce on it. Long story short, I was traveling out of town for a wedding, was only 17 days post-op, and we were on a tight time schedule. The only fast Breakfast option was hotel dining room and I thought I’d be okay eating one of my husbands eggs Benedict (I really did scrape off most of the sauce). Ate 3/4 of the egg (the waiter just could NOT understand that I was needing to take my slow time eating and tried to take my plate away TWICE in a 10 minute period of time so I rushed eating it so the man would leave me alone and stop hovering over my pitiful half egg.)Who knows...maybe he was pissed I didn’t order anything and was annoyed I grabbed a saucer and took one of hubs eggs. Anyway, by the time I walked back to the hotel room, I was in terrible agony. I had eaten eggs twice before and tolerated them just fine.... except before I’d had the luxury of taking my time and they didn’t have sauce in them. It subsided in about an hour- which was a blessing bc we had to be dressed and in the lobby within 2 hours of that breakfast- but for that hour I was scared to death that I had flown halfway across the country and spent thousands of dollars only to miss the whole thing sitting in agony in my hotel room. Since then I’ve eaten eggs again with zero problems, but the takeaway is that if I don’t have time, I just skip the meal and not stress too much about getting my Protein in rather than be sick sick sick and hurting It’s going to all be a learning process and you’re gonna do just fine.

    Nauseous

It's probably going to be like a week or even more but you should be fine with the nausea medication they usually prescribe you. If they haven't, ask for some. And the liquids part is difficult but just try to drink a little every 10 minutes.. (Yes, I know is annoying) but you don't want to ge dehydrated Sent from my LM-V405 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Exercise After Surgery

You can do cardio, treadmill and bicycle now. You can't lift more than 10 pounds until your f/u appt. with your surgeon and then be careful with resistance machines and increasing weight too fast.

    Insurance

That is what I was thinking, but the office said they have everything they needed. She said it was a 3 step process and that the last step is done after surgery?? Didn't make any since to me the way she said it. Another thing that is really weird is that on my insurance website, the approval has dates of 03/18-03/19. I am supposed to be getting a call back from the insurance company explaining what those dates mean.

I've had pretty good energy, but then again I'm retired and don't have do do physical labor for 10 hours like you do. I've been going to the gym. I'm eating nearly 100% protein as I'm full after I eat the protein part of my plate and never get into the grains/carbs/veggies/fruits. And I'm taking all of the chewable vitamins. Good luck!
  23. What do you guys do, take, or suggest to stay up and energetic? I work in a warehouse, 10 hrs shift and I'm dying EVERY DAY! After that I go to the gym and I feel like I can't workout as much as I would want to cause I'm so tired. Asked my doctor and she said that it's like that the first 3 months. Pretty much to deal with it... But it's getting out of control. ( I'm almost 2 months post op) Sent from my LM-V405 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Feeling Defeated

You've done great so far. Weight gain is a sign that we have fallen off track and leaning back on food for comfort. My highest weight was 278 but my surgery wait was 237. I've only lost 50 lbs with my RNY tool. I messed around and gained 10 lbs back after a year and a half but I'm still determined to lose these last 35 - 40 lbs. Right now I'm working towards intermittent fasting and working to implement Keto. It's probably easier for me than others because I've developed so many food allergies throughout the years that I can't eat a lot of foods anyway. I continue to go to Weight Watcher meetings because I still need the support of people who still struggling with their weight loss journey and I need the accountability. I've lost 5 lbs so far. I've tried going to a bariatric group held by my clinic but people were afraid to be honest in front of the nutritionist and counselor. A few weeks ago I showed some before picks I took to someone and they asked my what made me take pictures facing forward and sideways. My response was "I always knew that I would lose this weight by any means necessary". Don't let others defeat your goals because they matter to you. Be well.
  25. I had to loose 10% of my weight in 6 months. I weighed in after 6 months and had my surgery 3 weeks after confirmation of my 10% weight loss (about 8 months total wait). The programs that make you wait a long time are frustrating but you are way more prepared than those that are fast tracked. After waiting 6 to 8 months like I did, you don't experience the buyers remorse like a lot of unprepared people do. Take the time to educate yourself and nothing will come as a surprise.
