    March 2019 sleepers

Day 5 and feeling GREAT! I’m telling you, the gas pain sucks but once you get past that...woo-hoo! I’m not hungry at ALL though. So trying my best to get my water and protein in. One tip, my NUT suggested Unjury unflavored protein powder so I got a sample pack of that at first. It’s ok, but a lot of powder to mix in for just 10 grams of protein? No bueno. I found another brand at GNC. GENEPRO. It’s fantastic! I used it during my pre-op and it’s saving me during post op (since I can’t drink as much broth as I could before.) There are 30 g of protein in just one scoop AND the scoop is 3 x smaller than many others! It mixes great in a little lukewarm water, then I just add it to my broth or juice. Getting that much protein in a serving during the early post op days is wonderful!!

Sleeve to bypass done for acid reflux done on 03/04/2019. First 3-4 days were awful due to gas pain. I walked a ton, I prayed, I used essential oils, I laid on my left side, my right side, did Yoga poses, used a heating pad, put my knees to my chest face down and rocked back and forth & side to side, took Miralax, stopped taking my prescription pain meds and nothing seemed to help! I could burp but couldn’t pass gas. Finally by the end of day four after countless ours of praying .... it happened! I’ve never been so excited and happy to fart in my life! The surgery pain is minimal but that gas pain was wicked! Day five I felt AMAZING! I couldn’t believe the difference. No pain, I could twist, bend, and turn without any problems. I’m on day six and feel great BUT.... I got on the scale and have gained weight! I haven’t cheated! I’ve been on broth, ice chips and Crystal Light Water. How is this possible? I didn’t do this for weight loss but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t hope to lose some weight! Starting weight was 216.8. Pre-op I was 208. Post-op today I’m 213.8. WTH? My post op appointment is on the 14th. Anyone else have this issue? Interested in hearing people who have had the sleeve to RNY and how much you have lost. My doctor told me not to expect to lose a large amount of weight by having this procedure, but everyone I have known that has had it has lost at least 70 pounds or more. I’d like to think I will at least get into a healthy BMI range but feeling defeated.
  3. Hi! I am scheduled to be sleeved April 2019. I am on the lower BMI side to qualify. Has anyone skipped the pre op diet to avoid losing any weight? Mine is not a liquid diet but low carb. I understand it’s to shrink the liver but what do you think the minimum timeframe is to do it and still successfully shrink your liver?

    2 week stall

I feel the same way. I had my surgery on 2/20. That morning I was 272. I came home from the hospital at 279 from the fluids. Today, 19 days post-op, I'm 259. BUT according to my weight loss clinic I'm sure they'll go by the 272 so they'll only see a 17 pound loss in 3 weeks (I have my first post-op appt. this week). 259 is an increase from 2 days ago by the way! How can I gain when I've literally had 500 calories or less a day?! I too feel deflated and like I could eat pizza and chips and at least justify a gain! I think you and I are similar in our numbers and height so I was somewhat pleased to see your post. Thanks for sharing.

    Gastric sleeve to gastric bypass

I had a sleeve done just over 5 years ago. I lost a lot of weight very quickly and managed to keep it off. However, I had ongoing issues with gastritis, GERD, and GI motility. At the beginning of 2019 those issues got much worse. I ended up being hospitalized because I couldn’t eat or drink and was in terrible pain. I had a great bariatric surgeon who was persistent in figuring out what was happening. He determined that my sleeve was not functioning, everything I ate stayed in my stomach and esophagus for way too long. After trying several non-surgical interventions we ended up having to convert to a bypass 4 weeks ago. The conversion to bypass has been a completely different recovery than when I had my sleeve. I never had dumping with the sleeve, and I learned the signs of being full easily. After the bypass, I don’t have any sensation of fullness until I suddenly have terrible stabbing pain under my left collarbone. I also have experienced both the “slimeys” and dumping multiple times. Dumping syndrome is no joke. I’ll immediately start to feel flushed, weak, intense nausea, and within 10 minutes have diarrhea. The only relief is to lie down for a couple of hours until the weakness and nausea pass. I never vomited after my sleeve, but following the bypass my stomach will randomly reject something, even if I’ve eaten it successfully before, and I’ll vomit it all back up. The positive side of the conversion is that I have no reflux at all anymore. After living with terrible GERD for decades, even after my sleeve, that’s a huge relief. It has been a struggle to try to stop losing weight after this surgery, because I’m way under my target weight. The only advice I’d give to you is expect that this will be an entirely new journey, and some of the things that worked after your sleeve won’t work this time around. Be patient with yourself and follow your diet restrictions. With bypass it’s been even more important to get my protein and liquids in. Don’t worry about food for a while, that will come in time.

  7. Get Back dont be hard on yourself. I have gained 60lbs and I spent a lot of time being embarrassed and ashamed of myself. I am however on the other side of those emotions now and I am ready to fight again. You know your body and what works for you better than anyone. I have been doing Keto since 3/1/19 and I have lost 4 pounds and lots of inches already. That is what works for me. Find what works for you and just take one day at a time. Don't beat yourself up and don't overthink it. Small steps one day at a time is how we lost the weight the first time and we can do it again. I recommend journaling also it helps. I journal my feelings my weight and what I am eating and it helps to go back an read and compare information. You can do this. Keto is good because you still get to eat good flavorful food while losing and the food gives you energy as well. But find what works for you. Sending you hugs and lots of support. Hang in there

    October 2018 Sleevers

I'm really closer to 4 months (my surgery was 10/29) and, honestly, I wish I hadn't done it. First two months were great - felt good, eating/drinking was going fine, etc. Around month 3, the reflux started and slowly worsened. About a month ago, I started to get nauseated. Now I'm nauseated all the f'ing time. I eat less now than I did two months ago because I'm sick all the time. Sure, I've lost roughly 88 total, 80 since pre-op, and 66 since surgery (52% EWL). And it still is NOT worth it. Upper GI showed a small hernia, but no reflux. And they have no idea why I'm nauseated. On new reflux meds and nausea meds - hope they'll kick in soon. Doc says he wants to convert to bypass, but if they don't really know what is wrong, and they're worried about malnutrition already, and they can't really say if bypass will get rid of the nausea, then why would I do that? And all of this ignores that going to the bathroom is a struggle. Ugh. I am so stupid to have done this to myself.

    ❤MARCH 2019 CHALLENGE❤

Okay, just spilled my guts about totally screwing up from my 6/5/18 surgery & how I was gaining weight back & hopeless! So, in response to myself, I’m in - 10 days later - to this March challenge! Goal - lose the 10 pounds I gained since my lowest weight of 217 in July 2018. And go to a counselor! Best morning- prayer time, hot tea, & being fully awake because I went to bed on time for a change! 3 words to describe me - friendly, funny, lovin’ the Lord! Pray for me!

    Gallbladder Sludge

Oh no. I’m so sorry! Having your gallbladder removed is the best thing. I had mine removed about 10 years ago, long before surgery. My bariatric surgeon says many gastric bypass patients end up having gallbladder issues after surgery, unfortunately.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Okay February peeps! I’m now 32 days post-op and I’m starting to get really peeved at the scale. Lost 24 pounds from day 1-12, and 3 pounds from day 13-32. At first I was still pretty upbeat because I was still losing inches, but measured this morning and the ONLY place I lost anything was bust (0.5 inch) and hips (0.25 inch). Nothing anywhere else. I know it may sound greedy for me to be complaining about “only” losing 27 pounds in the first month, but this 1 pound/ week for the last 3 weeks is getting old really fast. The part of me that has suffered through my body betraying me for the last 23 years is starting to overcome the rational part that knows the science behind this surgery. I’ve gone over my food logs and I haven’t had over 24 gm carb any day, so I absolutely KNOW I’m not overdoing sugars. I’ve consumed zero artificial sweeteners and have only eaten whole food. No shakes or anything else with hidden bad things in them. Heck, I even gave up my sugar- free jello! Water is on point with at least 80 ounces daily (most days I hit 96 ounces) and my job gets me over 10,000 steps per day in a typical 10 hour shift. I’ve also started doing Pilates 3 times weekly. I’m making sure I get at least 7 hours sleep nightly. This isn’t technically a stall because I am losing a pound a week. The negative voices in my head are now telling me that I’m either going to be the first person in history to epically fail despite doing everything perfectly, or I’m doomed to fight hard for 1 pound a week and I’ll hit my goal weight in 17 months. Needing the support from my February buds right now....

    Any March 2018 Sleevers?

Hey everyone. I was sleeved on 03/19/18. Tomorrow is my one week anniversary. I hit my goal weight early on, and I have been teetering between 172-174 for the past month. My all time lowest was 166. I got a lot of negative feedback from people saying that I was too skinny & gaunt. I would like to get down to 170, that is where I was happy. I have not been eating the best lately, not horrible but I can be doing better. Exercise wise, I exercise 5-6 times a week between weight training and running. Overall, I am glad I had this done. I would like to figure out how to take off four or five pounds but it seems that my appetite increased as time went on as well as my ability to eat a little bit more. Here is a before & after collage I made. The after pics I am 170ish. The before pics I am 286.

    January 2019 sleevers

I had my surgery on 01/24 and lost 29.7 pounds so far. I haven't had too many hunger pains as of yet, and mainly due to poor planning on my part so I had to wait a little longer to eat safely. I feel more tired than I thought I would be at this point but know it is due to low calories. I generally eat between 500-600 calories a day. I should up that number but feel nervous or worried about it. I am losing between 2-3 pounds a week and want to stay at that amount. I think if I up my calories and exercise, it shouldn't be an issue but thinking it and doing it are two different things. So far the best moment-when I came back to school after winter holiday (which was 5 weeks in China), my students were amazed how much weight I lost. They kept saying, "Wow! You are so thin." I hugged everyone of them
