  2. I'm going on a cruise to Bermuda and I will be just hitting 6 weeks out... I just need to remind myself that I'm there to relax and get a good tan!! Not to taste all of the food onboard!! At least I know I'll get plenty of exercise walking the ship and the island!! Have a blast and relax!! If you are depressed I think that vacation will help you greatly!!!

    Cheating????

I was assigned 5 shakes or Protein bars per day plus one meal of 5 oz lean meat (nothing fried) and two cups of veggies (with no added fats or sugars). The low fat, no meat diet is a little off kilter for shrinking the liver though. It is carbohydrates that cause the liver to fatten up, as it gets converted to glycogen and lives in the liver until you burn it off. Keep carbs low, protein high (your doctor's recommendation for grams is good) and you will be just fine. A small amount of lean chicken, fish, pork is unlikely to hamper your efforts, but things like Beans and potatoes etc will trigger cravings and make sticking to this hard. It is kind of a detox - once you get the the glycogen burned out of your liver (usually takes three days if doing less than 20-30 grams of carbs per day).
  5. i debated this ordeal as well. I told my mom, sister, boyfriend and a close co-worker. i was more torn about the co-worker but he is a life coach and highly recognized person among his community and in my opinion is very trust worthy. i told him about a month ago and he's been completely confidential. he doesn't necessarily agree with the surgery (he's extremely healthy) but he understands why i'm seeking it and he supports me. as for others, if i get the surgery, i know they will see me eating differently but i am prepared to tell them that as far as the weeks of Protein drinks, i'm detoxing. and as far as the small meals, etc... I'm just decreasing my portion control and eating healthier. It isn't anyone else's business as to why you are having the surgery, so if they somehow mention that you're eating like you've had WLS, you can always say that you are following the diet plan of such a person.
  6. I forgot to take the iron supplements and B+ three weeks prior to surgery. What is going to happen? My surgery is scheduled next Wed., 9/1. I will start taking the supplements tomorrow. I'm afraid to tell my surgeon.

    Gall bladder attacks after LB...

Well it was severe....I had gall stone pancreatitis with my lipase almost 6000. Fortunately it dropped very fast (passed the stone). Had my GB out yesterday and I'm now home recovering. Never planned on 2 surgergies in less then 8 weeks. My surgeon doesn't typically give Actigall to her lap band pts, but always to bypass and sleeve pts.

    5k run3 weeks post op!?

    5k run3 weeks post op!?

Everyone is different. I was able to start jogging at 4 weeks, and I stretched it and lightly LIGHTLY jogged at 3 weeks. If you're trying to be competitive in the 5k at 3 weeks, you may want to bow out and wait. If you're just doing it to be active and have a good time, you can walk/jog it no problem. I would check with the Dr. (Whom I assume will tell you hell no) but only you know how you feel. I had a slight discomfort when I jogged around the large incision area so I stopped immediately.
  16. I agree.. I first went to England in my young 20's and I was thin. At the time I was "yes I admit" a spoiled brat. I complained because my hotel room wasn't large enough or the TV big enough. I could eat two or three of their meals and thought I was getting "ripped off" at resturants that charged me for the tiny little cokes and for every refill. Now I've learned... I hope I'm not so spoiled. I'd like to live simipler and those things aren't so imporant to me. But it's hard to change eating habits after always living the "fast food life style" - I know I can do it but I'm glad to have the band to assist.
  17. When I flew to London, I stopped over in Paris, and in the airport, they had these little lunch places. The French people were sitting in there eating these tiny slices of pizza, like the size if you cut one of our regular slices of pizza into three, and that was their one piece. The yogurt containers were about three ounces, and the sodas were about 6 ounces. I never saw anything like it. I also read an article once that said the average caloric intake for a French person is 1,200 per day! When they're not on a diet! In the same article, it said these French people went into a Mcdonald's and ordered a happy meal and they were "stuffed". In another article I read, a British woman and her mother came here to the states and went out to dinner, and when the plates came out, they burst out laughing because they thought it was a joke because the portions were so enormous. They were horrified to find out that it was a "normal" restaurant portion. When a friend of mine (who is very slender and eats very sparingly as it is) went to Paris, he stayed with a friend, and the friend would give him a tiny slice of quiche for breakfast, and my friend was ready to pass out! His friend was disgusted with him for being hungry all the time. The French also do not snack in between meals, ever. In my old job a few years ago, there was an intern from France, and one day we ordered Chinese food. It came in one of those round metal containers (about 10 inches in diameter). She said to me "no offense, but I have to say, you Americans wonder why you're all so fat, and the reason is this" (she pointed to the container) "Back home", she said "this would be lunch for me and four other people. Here, it's lunch for one person." Also, I met a girl from Germany who had moved here to the states, and she said that since coming here, she had gained 18 pounds without changing her portion sizes or the type of foods she normally ate back home. She attributed this weight gain to the fact that all of our food is so heavily processed. She said in the UK, all foods are fresh and often organic, and that they purchase foods fresh every day instead of relying on canned, frozen, and boxed foods like we do here. So, my two cents is that yes, we eat waaaaay more than the rest of the world and our food is crap. My best friend is Indian, and she said their plates are much, much smaller, and their large pizza is the size of an individual pizza here. Also, she says all their food is fresh and unprocessed. I believe that if Americans ate like the rest of the world, a large percentage of obesity would go away.

    2 months & 51 pounds

Congratulations! I hope I can say 51 pounds in another 6 weeks, which will be my 2 mo. anniversary. I'm starving to death.
  19. Hi, I had to get a fill today via fluro because I have been losing my fills. The Dr seemed a bit uncertain of the what the problem might be. He said there was no leak that he could see,my port was positioned fine and things seemed to be in place until he had me turn. Then he said "hmm looks like it tilts, maybe a slip but ill have to study the pics a little more". His main concern was that he filled me up to 10ccs and the band didn't close all the way. I was able to drink the barium no problem. I left, only to receive a call directly from him saying" we think the buckle is broken and thats why you don't have much if any restriction. My office will call you to set up surgery. I should have an opening in the next few weeks" I've never heard of a broken clasp or as he referred to it the buckle. If anyone has info as to how this happens I would really appreciate it. I can't seem to find anything on the net ( Thank you in advance Meliss

    lapband surgery at molding clinic

Well, opinions on this will vary, and there are threads on that clinic on this site with people's opinions (see the thread titled "Complications" in the complications forum). They aren't really supposed to fill the band at the time of the surgery, to the best of my knowledge. Sometimes they'll put enough in to 'prime' it, ie; fill the tubing so your first fill has a little more effect, but not enough to actually tighten the band. Post op diets vary greatly by doctor, but for the most part, people are eating solid foods at 6 weeks post op. It sounds to me like maybe you are having a few doubts. You might consider looking into other clinics/hospitals, and finding a place that you might feel more comfortable. Dr. Rumbaut in Monterrey performed my surgery at the San Jose hospital there. I highly recommend him.

    All Over Post Op Problems

I'm feeling the same way. I'm regretting getting the surgery... The thought of my protein powder and protein shakes makes me nauseas. Im struggling to get my protein in and fluids too. Im in week 3. Thank god I at least just got mushy food back. It's helping, but I need to get in my protein. Im going to call the doc tomorrow and see about getting some nausea meds. Today the smell of everything made me nauseas. I cried tonight because I'm not sure what I got myself into. I go back to work tomorrow, so I am hoping to get my mind off everything. But I'm worried and trying to figure out how the hell in going to get 80 grams of protein in...

    Hate the wait game

I did what you did. I constantly called lol. Then one day they told me I was approved and they through a big ole BUT at the end of the good news. Apparently my approval was sent in the mail. And they couldn't schedule my surgery until my hospital had a letter of approval. And that took longer than the approval itself. But trust me. Once the wait is over it's worth it. I can't believe I'm a week post op already. I thought it was forever and now I feel like the 7-8 month process went by so fast! Best of luck!!!

    Question about 64oz fluids

Right after surgery your body is in a major heal mode. So during the first few weeks, many find it difficult to meet the fluid daily requirements. But you are almost a month post op and you should be likely able to handle the requirement at this time. It is common for your taste buds to change after surgery. Be willing to experiment. After surgery, my taste buds changed dramatically. Even water changed. In the hospital it tasted excessively chlorinated and I could not drink it. So I experimented. Sugar free popsicles became my best friend. Some individuals find hot or cold can help with fluids. For me, I found that I could tolerate flavored water. So I began using Crystal Light. I also found a new drink Bai which I liked cold. In the winter, I found that I tolerate hot drinks such as piping hot cocoa. But you have to use the "No Sugar Added" variety. Also fine English teas were very good. The fluid requirement is met by a combination. It is not only the water that you drink each day. But also the water you drink when you take your vitamins and medicine. It is the milk you drink. It is the fluids content of the protein shakes. It is the water component of the soups you take. It is met by flavored water such as Crystal Light. It is met by sugar free popsicles. It is met by tea and decaf coffee. It is a combination of all the fluids that you consume during the day.
