I am 19 weeks out and can just now eat 4-6 oz of yogurt with a little granola in it for crunch. Lunch today, half a hamburger patty and 1 1/2 ish cups salad loaded with cheese, eggs, lite dressing. Dinner last night, half a piece of fish and a few pieces grilled tomato. Breakfast today, one scrambled egg with turkey sausage and grated cheese in it. Hope that helps. I know at first I could not finish a whole container of yogurt or pudding.

8 yrs post op but seriously need a buddy/support!!
James Marusek replied to Kmartinez15's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
There are two phases to weight loss surgery - the Weight Loss Phase and the Maintenance phase. This is the approach I used in the Maintenance phase. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery2.pdf It is common to have some limited weight gain after gastric bypass surgery. They call it a 20 pound bounce. The important thing is not let go beyond it. According to my nutritionist, meals should consist of equal parts of protein, fats and carbs after the first couple years post-op. Snacks should be limited to primarily whole food options: nuts, natural nut butters, fruits, veggies, boiled eggs, string cheese, yogurt with berries and almonds, tuna pouches. Avoid processed packaged foods as much as possible. Also do not expect to lose weight at a rate similar to right after surgery. There is no quick fix. Generally if you gained the additional weight over a couple years, then it may take a couple years of watching what you eat to get back down. -
Post Op/ Pre Fill And Reg Foods/ Week 4 . Not Losing, Low Carb Diet Anyone?
mybella replied to 2savemylife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you getting all of your protein in each day and water besides the carbs? I was told by someone who has been banded for 3 years that the 2oz portion of protein it is hard to get all the protein in so it is best have a double scoop of protein in the morning and add the rest with your other 2 meals. I am concerned about my protein intake as well. Or maybe the amount of food is not enough to keep your matabolism going meaning not enough calories. It is a fine line to get in your calories, stay within your carb intake and get the calories. Because when you eat yogurt and cottage cheese there are carbs involved so it is a tough tight rope to cross. I asked my nutritionis to get back to me with specific carb, protein and fat intake per day so I can try to get this right. I start mushies tomorrow and the amount of food that which is EX: 1 egg for breakfast, 2oz of protein, with 2 tablespoons of hummus or squash for lunch and a 1/2 cup of chili for dinner. -
Thanks - you know it could be my blood pressure meds. I was on one that had a Water pill built into it. My blood pressure was going too low for me (90/60) and they stopped the one that had the water pill in it. That is about the time that the water weight started to come back. I was told by my pulmonary doc that I may need to go to a lymphology clinic, but won't do anything until I see my surgeon on 1/3. I'm at the end of my soft diet stage and haven't had any problems with food thus far. I even had a small piece of beef tenderloin, thoroughly chewed, and I had no issues. I've been eating low sodium Soup, scrambled eggs, plain greek yogurt, a bit of mashed potatoes, a slice or two of Canadian bacon and still using Protein drinks. I'll post if there is something further the doc says I should do.

I was banded 12-11-07. I lost 8 pounds by 2 weeks. I went back at 4 weeks and had lost 4 more for a total of 12, I've been averaging about 12 pounds a month. Everyone is different, the more you have to loose the faster you loose. I've had to be careful to stick to calories I can count, like liquid, yogurt, Jello, pudding, Soups, etc. I was off for 4 weeks. I was really tired that first couple of days back. I'm a nurse in a busy unit. That was the most work I had done since surgery. I can eat out if I'm careful what I choose. Cream soups, verry runny potatoes or foods. I like Panera Bread, I get soup and eat the meat out of a sandwich, but very slowly. I had a fill at 4 weeks, (1cc), and felt like post surgery. It's better now. I have found Protein bars in chocolat and yogurt nut that help with the candy bar craving. I don't want those sugary Desserts any more. I do occasionally eat a small piece of mint, chocolate, or cookie. The best part is trying on clothes that use to be tight and hang on you! I can also go into regular XL clothes in some stores. What a Rush!! Good luck to you. I definately know this is what I needed to do. I don't relapse to the old size after a month of dieting, I see permanent progress.

1 month post op and kind of struggling
VSGAnn2014 replied to angelamarie374's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The doc is right. You're not getting nearly enough nutrition. If you can't hit his goal of 1,000 (more than my doc wanted at 1 month), then go for 600 to 800 calories/day. And you already know what you should be doing ... eat more slowly, chew your food a little more than you are now, and eat a couple of bites fewer at a single sitting than you are now. Also try adding a couple of Snacks in each day -- Greek yogurt would be great, since it requires no chewing (your tummy will think it's just another liquid). That's 120 calories and 12 grams of Protein for 5.3 ounces of Dannon Oikos vanila yogurt. Keep learning. Keep doing better. That's all there is to this. -
I was 2, 2 and 2, but didn't really do purees and just stayed on mostly liquids for about 4 weeks. It was just easier, didn't want to deal with puree stuff and on occasionally would eat some yogurt or some jello.

I have never like artificial sweeteners. But I have been trying some lately. Today I bought some yogurt with some in to try! It is so awful! I don’t know if I can do it! Any suggestions? Toodles, Rue

1st 2 1/2 weeks post op I lost 26lbs! Crazy right!? Got my 1st fill of 2.4 cc on 11/1. I don't eat more the 4 to 6 ozs at a time. I don't get hungry between meals. I'm eating a fraction of my pre-band diet but I haven't lost a pound in weeks. I have added more carbs with yogurt and cottage cheese, is this the reason for no lose? I thought I would have more weight lose initially. Is this my 1st plateau 4 weeks out? :faint:

I had some cottage cheese, that was good. I am on thick liquids now, so still it is protein shakes, yogurt, soup, the usual. Today i was having a fit for food (started my period) so I made myself a frozen coffee drink: One packet of diet swiss miss cocoa One packet of cappachino coolers one scoop of protein powder one cup of skim milk This is 245 calories, but also 27 grams of protein, it was YUMMY. I cant wait to eat eggs...I need to get a life, right?

Susan, I hear you. Today is my first day of pre-op diet and the day is not even half gone and I am already feeling that I do not want anymore yogurt (I had some for breakfast). At this minute, I feel dreadful just thinking about having yogurt for a whole week so I can certainly imagine how hard it is for anyone that needs to be on this pre-op diet for a longer period of time. Thank God for this support site. At least we can rant and rave to those that understand how we feel.

Hi Cat. It is great that we can have a little tantrum on here and chances are someone will have gone through the same thing. Tonight for "dinner" I threw some ice cubes into the magic bullet followed by some yogurt and a dash of skim milk and had a smoothie. It went down much easier and I am full now. Hang in there Cat. We will ge through this!

you might also ask your Doc for the pill that treats yeast infections. I get them too with antibiotics and I ask for a script for the yeast med at the same time. don't wait till it is to out of control. and yes yogurt would be good too.
-
H Pylori is a stomach infection (bacteria in stomach) lots of people have it and don't even know it. As soon as you start your antibiotics start eating yogurt right away that will prevent the yeast infection.

For lack of better terms, I have a constant growl in my stomach with gas pressure and tiny quakes throughout. I fart and burp all of the time! The pressure in my lower stomach isn't painful, just annoying. I am 6 days post op and hope it gets better! Also, I thought I might be lactose intollerant, but the only thing that really upsets me is the protein shakes. I drink one and am instantly in the bathroom. Cottage cheese, yogurt, cream soups, skim milk, and pudding all go down ok. Not sure what's up with the protein supplements.

I don't know if it helps or not, but salad was definitely not on the recommended list of mushy foods from my doctor (salad really isn't mushy...unless it's sat around in dressing for a long while)! LOL! Seriously, I was told to stick to soft foods like fat free puddings, yogurt, cottage cheese, refried Beans, etc. during the mushy phase. I agree with everyone else that you need to check with your own doctor and do whatever he/she recommends! Good luck!!!

My plan still restrict my Protein shakes to greater than 20 grams of protein and less than 5 grams of carbs. I started out with GNC 100% whey that I mixed with 1/2 Water and 1/2 skim milk, or with yogurt. They are out locally so I bought a GNC soy protein - Cookies and cream flavor and a GNC PM Protein - vanilla caramel. I don't know if its the PM protein, but I have only been doing 1 scoop in the evening (the full dose is 2 scoops and 40 g protein) and I have had awesome weight loss in the last week. 6.8 pounds!! A record for me.

I have mixed 1/2 scoop of powder with Greek yogurt (I love Dannon light ,& For Greek strawberry Cheesecake with 1/2 scoop vanilla powder) or sugar free chocolate pudding snack with 1/2 scoop of chocolate powder). Sent from my HTC One M9 using the BariatricPal App

I'm so glad to read this thread. I am so tired of the Protein drinks, powders and shakes and I'm only 1-week post-op. I have to psych myself up just to make myself swallow it. I'm grossed out by the artificial ingredients, the foaminess of some, the texture of others... I know it's a necessity, but it's a struggle already and the only thing I'm hung up on. I move to a mushy-consistency phase tomorrow and am praising the lord for Greek yogurt and higher-protein soup choices.

I am almost 3 months out. My doctor has a food plan of introducing all proteins at 4 weeks, start vegetables at 2 months, potatoes (all varieties) at 4 months, fruits at 6 months and all foods at 1 year. The nutritionist said try some fruits at 2 months as they may be easier to digest vs vegetables however be aware of carbs/sugars etc. A lot of others post here about potatoes and oatmeal a few weeks after surgery. So far all is well but I feel like I am not getting natural vitamin sources with such a limited diet. I do take calcium and bariatric multivitamin. I'm in a rut and stick to a premier shake, yogurt, some meat (protein, tuna, egg) and some limited vegetables like carrots, cauliflower, and broccoli. Is anyone else trying chia seeds? ground flax? fruits this early post op? I asked about nuts and the nutritionist said to try it slowly. When I look at Keto recipes they have a lot of foods I have not tried yet. I am feeling a little overwhelmed so I just stick with my basic foods. I have lost an average of 3 pounds per week form month 2-3 on 600 calories and started at a BMI of 35 so I think I may be losing too fast (I never thought that would be a concern). Any tips?

Any suggestions and helpful tips

Hi Debora, I by no means am an expert but here is my two cents worth. Sounds like to me so far so good. You say you are eating about 600 calories a day but how many grams of protein are you taking in? Just a warning the protein is key to a successful weight loss with lap band and keeping the feeling of satisfaction. Also protein is the key to keep your hair from failing out, with lap band we are not suppose to lose our hair but if we do not take in our protein it does start to fall out more than usual. As for suggestions for lunches, in the beginning I did well with deli meets, turkey and ham, cheese, canned tuna and chicken,(u can add a little mayo and some veggies for crunch to make it taste good) Lunch for me these days varies, sometimes it is Greek Yogurt, add a little protein powder or a table spoon of bare naked protein granola, a small salad about a cup with 2 oz's of lean protein. I drink lots of water, about 96 ozs a day. Water keeps me from snacking because I had a bad habit of munching when I was not hungry in the past. I also plan my meals everyday, I plan them the night before. I drive my husband crazy because I am always planning the next meal before the one we are eatting is over. If I plan, I don't worry about not eatting healthy. Also I suggest keeping a food diary, I use the one on lap band but also keep a paper diary in my purse, I write down everything I eat, I want to know what I am putting in my mouth, it keeps me on track. Good luck with your fill, you will notice a difference, make sure you chew chew and chew your food after the fill. What I could eat before a fill and after are different. I don't do well in mornings and breakfast during the week is a protein shake, I can do breakfast on weekends but the atomosphere is more relaxed and I am not rushed to get to a meeting. Hope this helps. -
Thanks GR8. Ibuprofin for the first few days is actually a part of my recovery plan given to me by the clinic. I had my surgery done at NW Weightloss Surgery. So far I haven't had any stomach problems. I have been taking it after having drinkable yogurt and that seems to be working. I appreciate the feed back. Good luck with your first fill. Suzi

Mushy diet- help bandsters!
milwif replied to Bjsfinley's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every surgeon/nutritionist is different but here is the list they gave me: refried Beans ricotta cheese baked with red sauce and mozzerella tuna mixed with mayo apple sauce cottage cheese yogurt chicken salad chili oatmeal malt-o-meal mashed potatoes(garlic mashers...mmmm!) pudding low fat ice cream or gelato Of course everything on the list is low or now fat, sugar free if possible. I hate sugar free stuff, so I kept it as low fat as possible. Hope this helps:smile2: -
Surgery is March 12 and what I’m most scared about is getting enough water afterward. Also, my surgeon has me going straight to stage 2 purred food. My questions: 1) Does protein water count toward your water goal? What about protein shakes? 2) I’ve read that it will initially take 10 min to drink an ounce. How long before you can just take normal sips? 3) Does yogurt, hummus, soup etc count as “food” i.e. will I have to wait 30 minutes after these foods to drink water? Thanks!
