    Protein protein protein

I am NOT a cooker either. I just posted this elsewhere but here goes anyway... Low fat refried Beans. I had 4 ounce containers I would put them in and just microwave them for 40 seconds and maybe put a little bit of low fat shredded cheese (sometimes, I really couldn't taste it so often left it off). This was warm and savory instead of sweet and made me very happy in the evenings. Good Protein. lunch would be low fat Greek yogurt. Also high in protein. I can't do cottage cheese and eggs didn't sit really well either so these were my mainstays.

    Vacation tips

protein bars are good to take. I used to sometimes take beef jerky and cheese sticks with me, too (they can be out of refrigeration for quite awhile - as in hours if not a day or so). Once you're there, you may be able to find a grocery or convenience store that has things like yogurt, cheese sticks, etc.

    Vacation tips

I usually travel by car but I travel quite a bit as a freelance video producer that takes marathon road trips with a lot of ground to cover. Before I check in my first night when I arrive somewhere, I will hit a local grocery store and pick up some things like sugar-free yogurt, string cheese, lunchmeat, grape tomatoes, etc and keep it in the fridge in my room so I'm not tempted to grab something from the breakfast buffet or door-dash late night junk to my room because I didn't prepare properly. After a day or two, if I don't take care of my business I can FEEL it, and the last time I took a trip where I didn't do what I needed to do, my husband said I looked visibly tired and weak when I got home. My biggest issue when traveling is not eating enough fresh veggies and fruits so at least once a day I try to find somewhere decent I can get a healthy salad or at least something like a green smoothie or something. I know better than to try to eat carbs on the go, but my downfall when I'm in "the travel zone" is living on meat snacks/cheese and therefore too much sodium and not enough vitamins and minerals. I also make liberal use of little plastic condiment cups with lids for organizing my supplements and vitamins (I even use them to portion out my collagen powder into individual servings.). I put all of them inside a freezer bag and then all I have to do is grab one each morning/evening.

    jewels of june check in!!

I was sleeved on June 18. I started on the pre-op diet on June 1 and lost 20 pounds by the 18th. Since then, I have lost another 59 pounds for a total loss of 79 pounds so far. The weight loss has slowed down, but am still losing about a pound per week now. Was thrilled to be down in the 170s just yesterday! Can hardly believe it is me when I get on the scale! I am not sure how many calories I eat per day, probably around 600-800. I can only eat about 5-6 bites per meal, so am really conscious about trying to make good choices for what I eat, to be sure I get my Protein in. I have started eating either a Protein Bar, or drinking a Protein Drink on a daily basis to supplement my protein, as I was having a really hard time getting it all in when can only eat 5-6 bites per meal. (I hate to consume the calories associated with the protein bar or drink. I try to read the labels and make sure that I am not eating some "glorified" candy bar, but something with a significant amount of protein in it!) I am working on trying to acquire a taste for Greek Yogurt, since it has lots of protein, but so far, it doesn't taste that good to me, but I keep trying! I get all my liquids in with no problem. I drink iced tea (unsweetened) or Chi Latte all day long. I am using an unsweetened Chi Latte and mix half and half with skim milk, so am getting some Calcium and Vit D along with part of my liquids when I drink the Chi Latte. I mainly eat chicken, fish, eggs, cheese or Peanut Butter for my protein. Have to limit the peanut butter because of the fats in it, but it does taste good on my half an English muffin for Breakfast. Carbs (in bread, Pasta and potatoes) were really hard for me to give up. So two or three times a week I treat myself to a half an English muffin with peanut butter on it for breakfast. That is about all the carbs I eat, except for fruit. I try to eat an apple every day or so to help me "stay regular". The really funny thing is, since my sleeve surgery, I have lost my sweet tooth! I used to LOVE Cookies, cakes, pies, candy. Now they just don't taste good to me! BUT, I still love to bake them. The gals at work are all complaining that I have to quit bringing baked goodies to work, as they are all gaining weight! I love to cook and bake, and the more I lose, the more I seem to want to bake stuff. So everyone at work asks me "what did you bring tonight?" when I get to work. They all look forward to trying whatever new things I baked that day.

    2 weeks post-op----hooray!!

So I lied. I sometimes just don't have the energy to log on everyday and type as I sit all day at work looking at a computer. But anyway, so far so good. I went to Wal-Mart and got a scale and according to it, I lost 3 more lbs for a total of 13.That's okay, not great in my mind as I am consuming only about 600 calories a day. But then again, it's been 2 weeks so that is pretty good for 2 weeks. I really really want some food but thankfully the dr. allowed me to add yogurt, v8 juice and anything else as long as it is liquid. So prayerfully I can make it through 1 more weekend then on to Pureed. I can't wait to eat refried beans and potatoes or whatever else I'm allowed. Later, Rumar

  9. HOw is everybody doing ? I'm able to eat more foods now and glad to not have to rely on shakes n yogurt for every meal. Constipation is still a problem, but trying to find a balance in my diet. I have been taking some bites( literally one or two bites) of "no no foods" but haven't lost control. I've hit the first stall week 4, which was expected. Still feel fat but jeans are loose. I've started doing aqua aerobics which I really enjoy. Still waiting to feel pretty.....

    Best Snack Foods?

My mid morning snack is either carrots or apple slices (sometimes dipped in Greek yogurt). The hard dense foods stay with me longer so I'm not starving at lunchtime and eat like a piggy.
  11. Hello All I'v been really sick for a few days and been mostly in bed but I have experienced some greater restriction in the last week. I believe it was Donali who said she got more restriction 4 weeks out from her fill(correct me if I'm wrong). My last fill was on 11/21/03 and I'm up to 3.5cc's note I have an AMI band which is taller then an Inamed band. I make these references cause I also study the differences and similarities if any among bands. Anyway during Thanksgiving I was able to eat alittle of everything with some restriction, I take vitamins cut in half every morning, I even have a carbonated water occasionally, not a problem. Then this last week I can't seem to keep small amounts of chicken, turkey and some fish down, chewed well. So I'v gone to yogurts, protein shakes... and really chopping food up. The worst episode was the meds for my sinus infection(Z-Pack) where I was to take 2 pills the first day then 1 there after. Well I chopped them in half and drank them down with a ton of water, there I was 15 minutes later on the bathroom floor with OBSTRUCTION, something was stuck and it hurt. All that could go through my mind was "here I go to the Hospital.. should I try and throw up" it finally passed, 10 minutes later again on the bathroom floor, the pain was intense!! Theirs something about a nice cold bathroom floor LOL. Well it happened a total of 3 times, the other half of the pill?? Now I'm crushing pills and learned a lesson. Boy am I restricted. The other thing I noticed is I don't feel very hungry maybe cause I'v been sick? I just thought I'd mention my experiences and also for those not noticing any restriction after a fill, just give it alittle more time. Then again everybody's different.

Hi!! Good for you venturing out and congrats on your sleeve. So full liquid stage is pudding, soup, and yogurt right? I think it's the most challenging because you get tired of the sweet stuff pretty quick. For me trying different cream soups really helped because of their rich savory taste. Cream of wild mushroom, tomato bisque, cream of asparagus, and even cream of brocoli were all good to me. How much longer are you going to be at this stage? Just focus on how these lovely light meals are contributing to your weight loss and bringing you one step closer to goal. I don't feel I grasped this during the limited eating phases, but ultimately this is the time to get your mind to focus on the fact that food is primarily about nourishment. I wish you the best of luck and welcome to the loser's bench!!!

PostOp Diet... what can I have?

Pudding is my fav lol. I am on day 8 as surgery was Oct 16. I have oatmeal and creamy soups with mushed carrots. I'll do rutabaga tomorrow. Greek yogurt I tried again today. It has been giving me the runs. Trying to balance getting 60 to 80 grams of protein ( seems impossible) and drinking water. I love this sleeve!
  14. Banded same day. Nov 5, morning. On the day following the surgery, I was able to have warm broth. I had coffee, and other warm liquids. I don't think they do any harm. In fact I think it's slightly better warm than cold, because I was told that a cold liquid would induce stomach contraction, and thus, pain. For the last 2 days I was able to eat jell-o, slowly. I transformed the jelly to a smooth liquid in my mouth before swallowing, and it went down fine. Tonight I was able to eat a small 100g yogurt. It was way thicker than jell-o. But it went down okay, I ate slowly. Just go slow, you should be fine.

PostOp Diet... what can I have?

I had surgery on the 14th, and at this time I am allowed full liquids, which includes low fat creamy Soups, and yogurt with no fruit added, no pulp etc, with under 10 carbs per serving. same goes for the Protein drinks, under 10 carbs per serving, I have been using Premier Protein. This goes for 2 weeks post surgery, at the beginning of the third week, I can add the pureed foods, grits, 1 egg, refried Beans, with protein added. see if the NUT can email you your plan so you don't damage your pouch.

    Nasty Cravings

Ummm yes, this would be me.... chocolate!!! The craving: sweets If visions of Cookies and ice cream dance in your head, what you may be craving more than the sugar in these foods is the fat that provides their texture, taste and aroma, according to Somer. Several studies have shown that fat and sugar may release endorphins into the brain (neurotransmitters that can produce a feeling of pleasure or euphoria). This hypothesis may explain why people crave that sweet, creamy taste -- it produces a pleasurable feeling. The solution: Guess what? Good old-fashioned exercise also appears to boost levels of endorphins (they're the same substances credited with the so-called "runners high"). So next time you feel like biting into a chocolate-covered ice cream bar, lace up those walking shoes or hop on your bike instead. You'll get the same pleasing feeling and the benefits of doing something good for your body. If you're on the job or unable to get immediate fitness gratification, you can still get the creamy taste and texture you yearn for from low-fat yogurt or cottage cheese with fruit. I agree with the exercising part, but there's no compairing chocolate to cottage cheese ROFLMFAO!!! Great post Pnut !!

    3 weeks post sleeve

I was sleeved 4/10 and I'm on soft/pureed there's no way i could put down 5oz much less in 5 min. Today i had 1 egg for breakfast, a slice of deli Turkey and a small piece of cheese for lunch, and 2tbsp of yogurt for snack. i can get down 2tbsp of food as long as i take small bites and go slow. I would slow down on the intake 3weeks out your stomach is still healing i would be afraid of eating to much and creating a leak.
  19. I had a fill on Thursday. I now have 3 cc in my 11cc band. I stayed on liquids Thursday and Friday and most of yesterday. I had some mashed potatoes last night and after just a couple little bites, my back started killing me. And now this morning I tried some yogurt, same thing. Just a couple bites and my back starts to really hurt, right between my shoulder blades and I start sliming a bit. Think I should call him and get some taken out? Or wait it out a couple more days and see if it gets better? This is only my 2nd successful fill since I got banded. I hat port problems and just got it fixed about a month ago, so I feel like I'm starting all over again! <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

    Soups 2 wks post op

When I was on full liquids, I could not have lentil soup. In fact, all Soups had to be strained, making sure that I didn't have any pieces of food in it. Lentils would be way to hard on your stomach right now. You have to protect your stomach, so please make sure that you are doing full liquids only. Cream soups, broth, yogurt, sugar free pudding, sugar free Jello were all considered acceptable on my full liquids phase.

    Question - Fill or Unfill?

Liz, if it were me I would stop eating bread and steak. Especially if you are losing. Restriction can be funny sometimes. I PB too so sometimes I'll just stick to softer foods. I had a shrimp salad for lunch today and I was able to consume all of the shrimp and avocado because they are soft. Yesterday I had sashimi for lunch. I was again able to eat all of it. I do eat carbs so last night I had some lean chicken and a baked potato. Remember there are 2 types of tightness. Tightness to liquids and tightness to solids. If you are tight to liquids that is not a good thing. If you are tight to solids you may want to have a softer diet ie. cottage cheese, yogurts, shrimp, tuna salad, etc. I can't lose unless I eat a softer diet typically. I can't eat more than 1-2 oz of hard protein at at time. I go back in on 1/2 for a slight fill .3ccs to my sweet spot. I wanted less restriction around the Holidays so I am down to 2.9. My band holds 4 ccs. Hope this helps you. Good luck.

    carbs

My guidelines were no more than 100g a day, no more than 20g at a time. Do I ever come remotely close to it? Nope. Most days I'm in the 20-30 range on a daily basis, most of that from dairy sources (cottage cheese, yogurt).

    Great foods post yours too!

Costco has a jalapeno greek yogurt dip that is awesome. I use it with all kinds of meat as a dip or on top as a spead. It's even good with veggies.

    3 Days Post Op

Hi All.. I am 5 days post op today. I feel great. Today is the first day I have been able to get a whole greek yogurt down for Breakfast and an additional 8oz of Vitamin Water. Swelling seem to be subsiding more and more every day. Walking has been key for me. I have had very little pain associated with the surgery, just a little when eating and drinking, so just listening to my body to tell me when I have had enough. I tried a Protein shake yesterday, but it was just too thick. Will give it a try again today. I did also have a pain on my left side, I figured it was some organ that was moved out of the way during surgery lol. I also tire easily, so I take naps here and there. Listening again to my body so that it heals fast and safely. I am, so far, so pleased with recovery, and SO thankful for all the great care I received in the hospital and of course most thankful for my amazing surgeon!
