  1. Try thinking of what you can add Protein powder to. I don't mind protein shakes, but, I found one I like that mixes well with milk. The other thing I do is add chocolate Protein Powder to vanilla greek yogurt. It essentially creates a pudding-like texture. There are also unflavored protein powders out there as well as protein infused items through various websites.

pleae help stricture and very scared

Thank you so much for all the info. I am going to get the stuff you suggested. I do feel so alone and like nobody understands so it was nice to hear I am not the only one going through this. You are welcome!! I'm glad it helped and feel the support. I hadn't been in here for a long while and came across yours as I was searching to see what others are dealing with their lose skin/rash. I felt the very same you did when I had my wls, I only shared my wls with my husband, son's and mom so I was very much alone. Especially when I was in the hospital recovering, I cried lots and thought what did I get myself into. I had to stay 2 days longer in hospital because I just couldn't drink enough and wasn't meeting my quota the doctors expect out of patiences by 2nd day. So I had to stay on the iv and until I could drink the full Fluid amount of ounces. To top it off I suffered from anxiety prior to wls so during my recovery time and feeling scared, alone and more anxious I was super scared. Luckily for me, the hospital I was in and floor I was on is only for wls or hernia patiences so the nurses helped get me through the hospital stay and gave me advise to lift me and told me I would get past all these emotions and stages. Hospital I had my also provided a religious rep and patience had option if wanted them to come body for a prayer on my 3rd day when I was told I had to stay longer I requested them and they visited my room, prayed for me and lifted my spirits. Mind you I'm not very religious. This site was fairly new when I joined, but truly helped me and so did going to the support groups from my doctors office. I posted a topic w/subject of my doctors name and gained 2 friends and became a support system for each other as well. Check for a support group in your area, ask your doctor's office or post a support group with subject line of your city. About the drunk I suggested, If you're not to sure about that many for cost on the premier Protein and just want to try, you can order online too for a six pack I believe, google it or Amazon has them too, so does the super markets but for me and my work schedule I usually order many items online unless I need right away. I go to market. Once you find which one you like, stock up and makes it easier for you to always have available and drink on schedule especially if you have work and have returned. I alway keep a yogurt at work and well the draft to go drinks I carry around every where along with other non perishable protein snacks/bars I like to eat. Just so I'm not stressing to have to go shop for and interrupt my daily scheduled meals. On weekends it's easier because I have more time to cook suck as eggs, broccoli, spinach, tuna salads, chicken etc... And also keep in mind, if you have a good blender, you can make your own Soups with your boiled fresh soups. Blend up, chicken, spinach or broccoli with chicken broth. Spinach, broccoli and asparagus are very high in protein and Vitamins. So if you juice or make your own liquified soups, look for veggies high and rich in vitamins we require. There's another brand(I will look for can't remember) that's plain Protein Powder I used to order and added to chicken broth the first three weeks. My husband would make fresh chicken Soup or beef soup and I would mix the broth with plain protein powder. Also used the broths from store, but home cooked was much tastier. I would also add to V-8 juices. Tasted great! As we tend to get tired of all the sweet shakes, I needed salty savory craving so this plain powder helped tremendously. I think I need to order another one again myself as I'm thinking about it Warm broth soups felt good to my new small tummy (Winter, my wls was 11/14/13) along with the shakes being room temperature, but the I also read many post of ppl liking and feeling better drinking them cold, so whatever feels good to you. Let me know whatever else I can do to help! ????????✌????️
  4. I was lactose intolerant for about 4 months postop. My surgeon said it's pretty common. I Used lactaid during that time. I was, however, able to eat cheese and Greek yogurt, but they contain much less lactose than milk. (And Regular yogurt has more lactose than Greek yogurt) I also couldn't tolerate artificial sweeteners or plain water, but that passed after about 4 months, too.
  5. @Stayc_b_me! My surgeon stressed that I should only take in Protein at that stage. No veggies, no carbs (applesauce and potatoes naturally have carbs even without sugar added), no fruit, etc. cheese is not a puree. I was told to wait until I was advanced to soft to eat cheese. I would highly recommend plain Greek yogurt with stevia drops, low fat ricotta cheese with stevia and an extract of your choice (lemon, vanilla, almond), blended cottage cheese with a hint of pepper. At 13 days I was forcing myself to eat. I actually cried when the clock said it had been almost 5 hours since my last meal and I had to go eat again. I agree with @@Djmohr that you should call your surgeon's office right away tomorrow morning to discuss your intake and their guidelines. I was very well educated on the guidelines and expectations prior to my surgery. Hoping you have great success through this journey. Counseling may be beneficial to help you sort out head hunger versus what you need to be giving your body. I was not allowed sugar free Popsicles until after surgery. They do count toward your Fluid intake. Same as sugar free Jello. Are you stopping drinking 30 minus before each meal and waiting 30 minutes after your meals to drink again?

    Stagnated

It's hard to offer suggestions without knowing what you think the issue is, what challenges you are facing with your diet, and so on. Here are the rules I set for myself when I find myself wandering off track: --set clear goals and stick to them (calories/carbs/protein) --weigh or measure everything that doesn't come in a single-serving portion (such as a jerky stick or a cup of yogurt) --track everything on MyFitnessPal --plan what I am going to eat in advance each day, and write it down in a schedule --no liquid calories other than protein shakes --no grains, refined sugar, or high carb veggies (potatoes, sweet potatoes, peas, etc.) --get anything that doesn't meet my nutritional goals out of the house --don't take money or any way to pay for things to work with me (this effectively keeps me away from: Starbucks on the way to work, vending machines, the snack shop in the building, the grocery store on the way home, etc.). It's a harsh tool but it works! Good luck to you.

Suggestion only but make sure to follow your doctors instructions and contact him/her always for all inquiries, concerns, pain etc. Everyone's body is different and reacts, recovers differently. When start to fill better and you can drink or sip more, try to get your Protein drinks in. Your taste buds are out of control right now but and most protein shake/drinks will taste awful, especially the powder ones. I highly suggest Premier Protein ready to drink. I get mine at costco. I believe it's an 18 pack for about 24.99. Sometimes on sale w/their coupons. They have it in vanilla, chocolate and strawberry flavor a. Each drink is 16oz, 30mg of protein at I believe calories 160. By far these have been on my daily intake. I also eat the Fage yogurt daily, 8oz 0 fat and 22mg of protein. Once you start to get your protein intake in, in conjunction to making sure you can try to get in all your Water, you will feel better and energized in time. Please ensure to have your surgeon check your labs for Vitamins deficiency. After my surgery on 2nd week out, I thought I was drinking enough protein but was so paranoid about not drinking enough water I was actually over drinking, flushing my protein out tmi but urinating too much. I was finally at stage to take crushed vitamins and he recommended I take extra Iron and suggestion Brad called Vitron-C (take 1 daily but on menses 2x daily) which I can only find online Amazon and WalMart and cheap. I also needed Vitamin D3 and take 10.000mg daily. I get at Walgreen and look for sales of the smaller tablets or small gel when they have sell buy one get one free. For hair loss which is normal and will eventually come but will slow or stop around your 6/7 month out. I take the following Biotin Zinc And the iron helps for hair loss too You must also take your daily multi vitamin and Calcium daily. B12 helps for extra energy. I hope you feel better soon, be assured you're not alone and many of us have gone through many similar symptoms you're experiencing. Always check in with your doctor or his nurse. Inbox me if you'd like more info or can answer more concerns. I'm 2 Yrs out from my wls had and was not able to exercise, lost many inches but have not met my personal and desired goal, however I'm super happy have gone from size 24 to 14/12, not sure what my bmi is but I'm 5'7. Now dealing with new medical issues such as rashes from lose skin and recently went to see dermatologist and being treated for it, need it. Feeling content though. Your in my thoughts and available if you need more info. Keep strong, know you're not alone, and you are going to get past this, take everything day by day. Healthy and positive vibes going your way!! Take good care! PS Peppermint tea is the best tea go have handy for gas, tummy aches and nausea! Also have a magnesium drink available for constipation since its also part of our healing process and so much daily protein intake. I get Walgreen's brand cherry flavor or Phillips brand. But you have many to chose from I drink to cleanse 1 a month or when I haven't had a bowel movement within 3 days. Tip for me when needed is I start to get a pain towards my right side of upper tummy.
  8. I too had my sleeve on 1/5/16. I was home on Thursday. On protein diet and liquids diet for one week then on soft foods the next week. Everything went well. I was nauseous and in pain for one day. The Meds helped a lot. By Thursday I felt much better. Today my fifth day I was out at Aldi's getting organic stuff to make my protein smoothies. I can drink about 64 oz of water in 12 hours and two protein drinks in 10 hours. I try to have broth with my vitamins so it won't upset my stomach. I have not weighted myself yet. Will do so on Sunday. But I know I've lost weight. The Victoria's Secret Pjs I got for Christmas wouldn't fit and now the pants is lose and feels comfy. Scars are healing well. I am not hungry but it could be the protein drinks. My breakfast one almond milk and is filling with protein powder. A little Greek yogurt to change up a little.

    Running after surgery..

I've run 2 half marathons and numerous 10ks since my surgery 18 months ago. Hydration and food has not been a problem. I make sure to eat a meal with a mix of protein and carbs before a race (I favor overnight oats with Greek yogurt or Greek yogurt with peanut butter). During a race I make sure to drink at regular intervals and on longer runs I use shot bloks, 1 blok every 2-3 miles. Good luck!!

    Pre Op Diet

Every doctors pre-op is different. My pre-op diet was 4 shakes a day (2 with milk & 2 with another liquid) if I mixed them with Water I could have 5. I could also eat 6 servings of s/f pudding, s/f Jello, unflavored applesauce, 1 cup raw veggie, oatmeal and yogurt a day. The day before surgery I can eat normal till 4 pm, then I have to drink 32oz mirlax over 4 hrs starting at 5 pm. That's the only thing that doesn't sound pleasant.. I think I'd rather have the 2 day clear liquid diet. The plus... I've lost 11 lbs on my 2 week pre-op
  11. I'm the same in regards to it depending on the food. If I'm eating cottage cheese, yogurt, eggs I can usually do 2 oz without a problem (and have to make sure I take a full 25 mins to eat so I get the "full" feeling). If its denser Proteins I get a few bites in then I feel like the food is backing up in my esophagus.
  12. I never technically pureed anything. Just mashed it up real good with a fork and my mouth As far as getting food soft enough to not get stuck, a little mayo mixed with yogurt, gravy's and those types of things do wonders to help mash the food and keep it moist enough to slide right down Don't overthink it too much. If it's soft and moist enough to be mashed up, there's your pureed food.

    Need a Healthy Snack

Andrew0929, Good for you for nipping the regain in the bud! I doubt if the cereal per se is actually causing the weight gain if you’re truly staying within your calorie goals, but I agree with some of the others that maybe it is an unhealthy habit if you’re depending on it and it’s driving you to make other unhealthy decisions. I love some of these ideas! As you think of some more, I’d also try to think about why the cereal is so attractive. Part of it may be the sweetness and crunch, but part of it may just be its convenience. It’s there, and it’s ready to eat. Maybe if you make sure that it’s not there, and that other, healthier, Snacks are ready to eat, you’ll go for the healthier snacks without another thought. Maybe the trick is to have ready to eat foods on hand, so some ideas are carrot sticks and other cut veggies, peeled oranges, washed grapes and other fruit, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, and other prepared foods. I also like seaweed snacks for a low-calorie crunch.

    Pudding question...

I make my protein pudding with both protein powder and greek yogurt. To me, using strictly protein powder (in the normal one scoop per cup of milk ratio,) had too much of that protein shake taste to it, so I cut it back to on scoop powder, one cup milk and one cup plain greek yogurt. This yields a pudding without any whey powder taste and just a hint of tartness from the yogurt and isn't overly sweet like many things can be post-op.

    Powdered Peanut butter?

I stir it into my Greek yogurt. It's good in cottage cheese, too.

    My Kickstart Diet

Wow, I have to say…it sounds like the holidays didn’t get too bad for most of you, and that’s great! And even better is that you have some sensible – not extreme – plan for getting back on track! Cervidae, Congratulations on having a treat, enjoying it, and stopping there! What an accomplishment, and something to be proud of and to remember when the going gets rough. Jennolsen, Protein and fluids – that’s the right idea! Congratulations on still losing during the holidays, and being so close to goal weight! It sounds like going back to counting, focusing on protein and Water, and getting rid of the junk are at the top of the list. For me, the first thing was to clean out my house to get rid of whatever holiday treats somehow snuck in and accumulated! Then I went grocery shopping for all kinds of good things, including fresh fruits and vegetables like lettuce, Snacks like carrots and grapes, and veggies to cook like broccoli and zucchini. I also stocked up on all the other healthy essentials, like yogurt, plus frozen staples like blueberries, and chicken. Now there’s no reason not to eat right!

    Meals

Mornings I sometimes just have coffee with vanilla protein powder, or 1-2 eggs, or Greek yogurt with protein powder. For lunch I try to take left overs from last nights dinner which is mostly chicken or fish and veggies. I may have thinly sliced turkey and cheese, rolled together. Snacks may be yogurt, cheese, sugar free Popsicles. I admit I am pretty boring and not creative.

    Pre op diet.

I'm one week into my 2 week preop diet. It consists of 2 shakes a day either protein or no sugar carnation instant breakfast, nonfat yogurt, low fat cottage cheese, steamed or raw veggies and fruit. ( they gave a couple of different meal plans switching up the servings on these so the amount varies). I can also have up to 64 oz of low calorie sugar free fluids like crystal light, unsweetened iced tea, water, sf jello, sf popsicle, or broth.

    Getting enough calories

I agree with Threetimesacharm. The body changes after about a year. The intestines change and allow you to consume fats and sugars again (without dumping). They take up the slack caused by the part of your stomach that formally performed that function and was cut away after RNY surgery. So periodically experiment and see if you can now tolerate these (like milk, yogurt and cheese) without experiencing dumping syndrome. I found that softer foods such as chili and Soups went down better than harder foods such as steaks. I made my own high Protein version of these. My surgeon is noted for making the pouches small which has similarities to your condition. I included some recipes in the following. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf When I spoke to my nurse about the difficulty in eating, she said not to be constrained to 3 meals per day but that I could increase this number, because my pouch is smaller.

    Getting enough calories

Milk makes me dump badly. Can't even do yogurt. I can do cheese and I do. I know!! I have to eat all day. It's so hard. It's dicusting. I find it soooo hard. I'm hoping that this will get better in time. I was doing better when I was eating a lot of Taco Bell but I got so tired of it and I worried that eventually the tide would turn and I would start to gain from it. And it's so bad for you. I eat oatmeal, eggs, waffles, bagels, bacon, ranch dressing, cheeses, pizza, sandwiches, Thai and Chinese, Pasta, steak, hummus, pita, fruit, Beans, sometimes Protein bars, Jerky, avocados....and much more It's not what- it's that the quantity is so low. I've become a one meal wonder. I know it's really my fault but I just had to post about it because although it seems like an easy fix, it's not going easily!!! I only made 800 calories today and I feel repulsed at the idea of eating more because I am so full already. I had steak for dinner and that tipped me over the edge Ugh

    Pre op diet.

My diet was high protein, low carbs, consisting of Premier Protein shakes (4-5 per day), sugar free pudding with a scoop of protein powder added, sugar free popsicles, chicken and beef broth, and Kroger Carbmaster yogurt. I was on my pre-surgery diet for 3 weeks, because I was awaiting approval by my insurance, was hoping for an end of December surgery date, and if approved quickly, my surgeons office wasn't sure if I would have surgery the week of Christmas or the week after. As it turned out, I was approved, and was scheduled for December 28.

A normal daily diet for the sleeve

I'm 5 months out today, and not at goal. Breakfast: one fruit-flavored greek yogurt, or one scrambled egg with cheese. Lunch: 1/3 cup of meat leftover from dinner, or about six small meatballs. Dinner: 1/3 cup of meat (fish, chicken, steak, ribs, pork loin, etc.) with about two bites of vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower) One sugar-free tropical popsicle after dinner. About 60 ounces or more of crystal light each day. My plan does not allow Snacks. I tried adding some salad to lunch or dinner, but I just can't eat it after eating my Protein.
  23. I am 11 days out from surgery and today had very bad reactions after eating yogurt and after having a pudding made with skim milk. I'm totally bummed since I don't want to be lactose intolerant. What are the chances of this passing?

    Shake Help!

I'm using Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard whey. So far the double chocolate has served me well. One thing I've found is adding a little softened PB mixes and creates a Reeses PB cup-like taste. Another thing you can try is adding Protein powder to various foods. I sprinkle some powder on my vanilla Greek yogurt and it mixes to make a pudding consistency. Tastes pretty darn good too.
