Any Happy Bandsters Out There With 5 or More Years Of Banding?
zinhaa replied to NeenBand's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
only 3 yrs here. you may want to try the vetern bandsters forum wendy -
I'm wondering if your doctors recommended that you take supplements, and if so, what they recommended. The nutritionist at my doctor's office didn't. I was diligent about taking Iron, a B supplement, and a multi-vitamin early on. I've not been as diligent lately. I started bruising really easily. The purple/green kind, where I can't even remember what I hit, then get a bruise. Over the last two weeks, I went back on them, but then today, I noticed another on my wrist. Have any of you experienced that you bruise more easily? Not sure if I should be worried or not.

Life with the Band -- What's it Like?
alicia replied to Alexandra's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey, Alexandra. After having my second fill only 3 days ago, I am now finally experiencing what good restriction is. And you have some good tips to think about/follow. IAMOMX6, I am right with you on the shrimp dinner experience....can't eat it all! But as far as physically - what is life with the band like? Fine, no problems... it's the emotional/mental part that's got me. For example: A week ago, I would have told you I was a failure; I've only lost 19 pounds since July 24 and that's with one fill in October. I beat my self up miserably. I finally talked it over with a friend who actually got me out of the depression. Then I got my second fill 3 days ago. Right now I am a little upset with the fact that I can't eat as much as I used to. For some reason this really bothers me, I guess because I am finally accepting/realizing that I am mentally/emotionally dependent on food more than I should be. I mean, for 30 years I used food as a drug, so it's a little hard to break. I do feel good about the fact that weight loss is the end result so it lifts my spirits. I must have hope that I will get to 200 pounds one day. Maybe not in 6 months, maybe not in a year, but one day I will. Don't know if that's what you were looking for, Alexandra, but that is how I feel. Thanks for caring! -
Am 3 1/2 weeks post op and have only lost 16 lbs so far. None in the last week. Getting worried.

Looking For A South/central American Plastic Surgeon
Lee replied to crosswind's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I had a lot of body and face work done last month in Mexico by Dr. Sauceda. He specialized in massive weight loss and has great rates. I was there, under his care for two weeks all inclusive. He has a group over on ObesityHelp dot com. There are a lot of us over there that recently had surgery. He will be in las Vegas in June doing consultations. -

Stalled at Week 3
mattsbelly replied to MsVictorious1020's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I stalled at about week 3. It's frustrating. I only weigh my self once a week now. Weigh yourself in the morning after you wake up. -
Vacation is over and i had a BLAST. But the house i rented was great except no internet. Not that i really missed it as i was to busy to be on much. We ran from daylight to Dark. I did 7 amusement parks as well as the beach WOw talk bout sore. But i rode every ride I wanted to but 2. One i wouldnt fit in the seat the other the line was way to long and i was way to tired to stand in another line. I had great family time and enjoyed everything. Figured i would have lost a ton of weight. I didnt eat alot and walked my buns off but hmmm didnt lose much. Oh well This thur is my preop then next wen is my dr appt then May 2 wow just 2 1/2 weeks is my surgery. I am so far behind on what has been happening here on the board. Personally I was a GREAT dieter! I've been on a million diets all of them lasting 2 weeks to a few months. Hundreds of pounds lost and regained over and over again. I'm so thrilled not to have to diet anymore. Being sleeved is absolutely nothing like dieting. On a diet, I'm starving all the time, now I have to force myself to eat. I'm 5'5" tall, HW 250lbs CW 178.4, sleeved 10/21- 5 months. Getting sleeved is what got me away from dieting.

I'm 4 week post op and it was the same for me. I tried cold, warm and hot water and still pain so I stopped drinking reg water. I was able to drink vitamin water. I tried again 2 days ago and no more pain

I'm 5 weeks post op. I look at food and can't eat anything. I'm getting about half of my protein and fluids but feel to full to drink more. Currently my source of protein is liquid premiere protein. I tried an egg today and ate about 1/8 of it. I go back to work tomorrow and don't see how I can do it as weak as I am. I long for the days of spaghetti or pizza. Will that ever happen again?

Wow! very similar here!. I am 11 months post op, down 123 pounds and am 6w4d preggers due 4/18/14. I had gotten to 127 down, but weight started to creep up a little, but has been holding steady at 123 down for about 3 weeks, just after finding out. I have a 4 year old daughter. My surgeon said to wait to get pregnant until 9-12 months post op, and we weren't trying, but it happened. We are excited, it's just a little earlier than planned. I have had no morning sickness and I'm hoping that's because of the surgery, but it might be too soon. I hope I don't end up with it. I had miserable morning sickness the first pregnancy, all day every day and was hospitalized twice for hyperemesis. Saw my OB yesterday and got the first sono. He said all looks good. Hope it stays that way. He said make sure to take the vitamins and stay hydrated. I'm also grazing constantly to make sure I get nutrients. Hoping the weight comes off easily after....

I was a big water drinker before my surgery. It took me a good 6 weeks before I could drink it without a weird pain/queasy sensation. Before that I had to mix in a little crystal light. In the last few days (8 weeks post op now) I've been able to chug a little bit. Experiment with the water temperature, ice cold works best for me but some had theirs warm.

Stalled at Week 3
tnellp replied to MsVictorious1020's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was 3 weeks post op on Monday. I've also stalled, but I've heard that it is very common to stall at 3 weeks, so don't get too freaked out over it. It will come off -

Surgery 4-23, on liquids and really weak...
curlysue replied to katie78's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is normal. I felt horrible my first three days on a liquid diet. It is really hard. I have been on a liquid diet for 1 1/2 weeks, had a couple of cheats but moved on from it. If I didn't have food issues, I wouldn't be here. My surgery is this Friday. Do you have any support that can help you with the kids? See if you can have someone mind them while you get some sleep. I have been tired, irritable and weak but I know this is only for a short time. Hang in there. It is a long and worthwhile journey. Take care. -
I have had a wonderful experience with my band so far and would recomend it to anyone that is willing to make a lifestyles change. I think it is very important for you to do all the research you can and weigh the pros and cons before you have the band done. I'm 3 months post op and am down 34 pounds. I love my band. I will say That I have had a few times that I've pb'd but it has been on something that was to dry or when I am in to big of a hurry and didn't chew something well enough. If you eat slowly and avoid foods that get stuck easily you will probably not have to much trouble. Good luck on your research and on deciding to get banded. The band is a great tool and when used properly it can help you achieve goals you never thought possible. There are lots of people on this board who are within a few pounds of being at goal. The band is awsome!!!!

60 hours post op and still lots of pain
Chrisann replied to kevinh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was in hell the first week after being banded, and then had complications for a few weeks afterwards. I used to sit in the recliner with my knees up to my chest with a heating pad on my abdomen and a pillow on top of the that. I also had the hernia repaired, and never even knew I had one. The gas was painful, and I couldn't get it out, not from walking, the gas x, or the heating pad. I was miserable I took the serious pain pills at night and I was knocked out for 15 hours!! That was the only serious rest I got. My doc had me on Clear liquids for longer than most, and I couldn't get those down cleanly either, I was a mess. But, it does eventually improve, ever so slowly. Now I am almost 3 months out and would do it all over again. -
Anybody get discomfort in their throat when they eat?
Bonnie_Lass posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There's lots of stuff here about food getting stuck and causing pain in the chest, and about first bite syndrome, but does anyone else feel it in their throat? When I ate, I would start to get discomfort in my throat, and it got a little worse with each bite, or sometimes it took several bites before it started. Sometimes it would get really bad, and sometimes it didn't resolve until the food came up. It has lots of similarities to getting stuck that way. It happened mostly after the surgery (mild then), just after my first fill and since my second fill. My nurse and surgeons at the clinic I go to seem to find that I felt it in my throat to be a little odd. Anyway this week the surgeon thought best thing to try was taking a little of the fill out. It's been 2 days and I haven't had anything close to that issue. So, I was too restricted. Only trouble is now I can eat more than the recommended amount again (still less than before though so I could still lose weight). I'm thinking I'll just wait and see how the weight loss does go - I dread the thought of even a small fill right now. Just to be clear, I am still so happy I did this, and with the weight I have lost. -
I've been on BP medicine for a few years. My primary physician, who is wonderful and sees me every 3 months, said I could get as skinny as anything but still need it, since it is hereditary and runs in my family. Could be you're just predisposed to high BP.

Anybody get discomfort in their throat when they eat?
Lizabeth replied to Bonnie_Lass's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had my 4th fill this past week as well and I puked for the first time last night, tried to eat again and now I know I shouldn't have. lol But I can definately tell a difference with this last fill. I am hoping the same thing though, that it will get better. My band it just teaching me I guess. -
Woo hoo!!! I just got back from my post-op visit and I am down a total of 17.6 lbs.:banana I had lost only 5 lbs. pre-op:( 12.6 pounds seems like a lot to lose in a week, it makes me wonder if some of this will creep back on when I can eat solids again. Any thoughts?

How Long Until The Bloated Swollen Tummy Goes Down,
smallgirlsxthree replied to megannadine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My tummy was swollen for about 2 weeks too, but the pain I had in my right upper side lasted for almost a month. I guess that's the hole that they took my stomach out through?? That spot was all bruised and swollen for what seemed like forever, but it all goes away eventually. I had alot of bowel gas and bowel "issues", so I think that didn't help my bloated belly!! One day you'll wake up and be moving along and realize that you feel alot better, it's a nice surprise! Good luck! -
Hi does anybody have any recommendations for a scale that is very accurate I've never have a scale before and now I'm thinking it's time to get one because I have 2 weeks until my surgery. I don't need one with all the bells and whistles just one that's easy to read because my eyesight is not that good thank you.
