    Weight loss at 4 Months

I lost about 55 pounds in my first 4 months. But everyone is definitely different so try not to compare too much, although I know that is easier said than done. Averaging 10 pounds per month weight loss is outstanding!! Give yourself a huge pat on the back and hang in there. You will get there. Best of luck!
  2. I get them whenever I eat anything drives me potty, but I have heard they do go away eventually. Sent from my HTC 10 using the BariatricPal App
  3. My first bandiversary is going to be 09/19. I have three pounds to go to get to goal, and I plan on making it. If I do, it will be 66lbs. the weight loss is much slower when you get down to just a few pounds so I plan to walk a lot farther, and do some evening walks too. It helps keep me away from the food and it is good for me.... Hugs.....
  4. So, sadly, this is a reality. The ASMBS places much higher success rates on surgery. But that is because their definition of success is "people who maintain a 50% EBWL over a 5 year period" post surgically. That mean that people regain 10-20% based on their original average expectations of weight loss. I think it's how we choose to perceive and frame these comments. I hear that a lot. And it makes me: 1. Continually aware of the existence of this being a possibility. (AKA Scared Straight! Cuz I think of this potential any time I face a choice to eat calorie dense, emotionally vacant meals--oh I'm talking bout you French Fries & Pizza. It helps reinforce my behavior to eat mindfully with healthy choices. It's not 100% but it's at minimum 80-90% and works for me.) 2. It makes me exercise every day to keep my metabolism up and to not rescind into old slothful habits. 3. It keeps me connected to my support system (support group in real life and online, and to BP forum) + doc + RD + psych 4. It keeps me focused on building new health living skills and having a barihealthylife! 5. It makes me determined to not be a statistic anyone will be able to say about me. I will do anything necessary to be successful by my definition. So you see? Don't waste energy on anger. Turn it to your advantage! Congrats on all your hard work!!!!

    Surgery Today!

Hello all! I am still in the hospital, they tested me for a leak and there wasn't one! Yay! Then they scoped me and put in a drain thing( yuck) I felt like I had been hit by a train, but come to find out I was severely dehydrated ( I hadn't even been home for 24 hrs?) they gave me 4 bags of saline in surgery alone They had ivs going in both arms to get it in faster, so far between yesterday and today I've had over 10 bags! They think my fever got so high it just wiped everything out. They are stumped where the fevers coming from, and the blood that's coming up, but since they put the tube in it hasn't been to bad! I just hurt all over since they had to put me under and cut me open again! I have double the anesthesia but I must of lost some weight because they weighed me in my bathrobe and with all the fluid I had, i am 233 my preop weight. At At least I'm maintaining during this madness;) I am having terrible headaches also! Well thank you everyone for continued prayers, my babies need me and they haven't given me a date to home yet he just said we will see, whatever that means. Please disregard the run on sentences and misspellings , I'm a little loaded on morphine for the pain;)

    I'm 5'5" , 370# which surgery?

@@mitzie46 How bad is your GERD post-op? I have it now (pre-op) but it's triggered by certain foods/drinks. I don't take any medication for it, mostly because I'm allergic to omeprazole. I do have to eat Tums like candy on occasion when I've eaten something I shouldn't. My surgeon said this was a concern of his for me getting the sleeve but he said only about 10% of people experience trouble with GERD related to the surgery and that since I can control mine with better food choices, I should be ok.
  7. I will be 7 weeks post op from my gastric bypass when my husband and I head out to Las Vegas in mid November. We are both on vacation and hunting for a home out there for 10 days which is the longest we have ever been there. I moved to the soft food stage last week and I am doing very well with most foods on the plan although eggs and I are having a love hate relationship. I love them, depending on how I eat them, they hate me. I am a little concerned about eating out that much while I am in Vegas and I am looking for some tips. My nutritionist suggested taking protein shakes and even some quest bars to ensure I keep up my protein. I do not eat beans of any kind, I just cannot get them down. Does anyone have some tips for eating out in restaurants at this stage? Seems crazy with what little i can eat to order meals. I am guessing you all have some experience with this? Thanks so much!
  8. I finally have the green light to eat pureed and soft foods but I'm really struggling. Anything I eat - outside of Protein Drinks - I throw up. I thought maybe I was eating too much or maybe too fast so I weighted out 2 oz of rotisserie chicken and pulsed it in my Ninja. I took 10 minutes to eat it. Still no go. What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions on things to try? Is this normal?

    Jealous: Low BMI

I had surgery on August 5. Day of surgery I weighed 215 (from a high of 234, BMI right at 40 when I started this whole process). I have lost "only" 19 pounds in just over 5 weeks. I, too, sometimes compare my numbers to others'. But I am overall really happy with my loss. I haven't been below 200 in too many years…so long I can't remember when! I am losing weight and know I will keep it off. I feel in control of my weight for the first time in a looonnnngggg time. So, who cares what everyone else's numbers look like? I am rocking this! And so are you!
  10. I started this process on May 4, and I had my surgery on September 12. In between, I lost 56 pounds. Since the surgery, I'm down another 39. I went from 5'5" and 285 to 5'5" and 190. I've lost 10 inches off my waist and went from a XXXL to a large. I stepped back through my old wardrobe so quickly that things I thought would fit for a while no longer fit at all, and I have to start from scratch on my wardrobe. My glucose is 92, I'm off the CPAP, I'm off the cholesterol drug on a trial basis. I look better than I have since high school. I go hiking multiple times a week, I swim multiple times a week, I just bought a kayak. And I'm still losing weight. The 100-pounds-lost mark is right around the corner. This is successful, but not success. Success is many years away, when I'm on my deathbed having never become obese again. And I expect that to be many, many times more difficult than the last few months have been.

    Sliming

I had never had a problem with cream of wheat before this, that's why I ordered it. But I asked that it be served VERY HOT (the way I like it). I think that by the time I swallowed it down, HOT, it dried up even more in my throat and got stuck. It was very painful! And, yes, 3 hours is forever when you are sick. By the time I drank the warm tea, the pain was unbearable! Then, just as fast as it started, it went away. Within 10 minutes of drinking 2 sips of tea, I was fine. Never want to go through that again!
  12. Well i made it through surgery and am now at home. I feel very blessed that my surgery was relatively pain free. No pain from the incisions and no gas pain at all. I have not had to take any pain medication. I'm struggling a little getting my liquid and Protein in. I'm using Isopure for that. I can only take it in small doses. I was released from the hospital yesterday afternoon. I slept a little bit in my bed last night but after about three hours I got up and switched to my La-Z-Boy recliner and had a very nice sleep until 7 am this morning. I jumped on the treadmill and did about 10 minutes of slow walking. I'll repeat that process throughout the day. I gained 5 lbs from the IV solution in the hospital but have since dropped that weight and three pounds more. Best of luck to everyone that has had their surgery or is about to have surgery. Dallas

    Anyone with BCBS FEP Experience?

I am currently going thru the process w/BCBS FEP at the start of the process I had a bmi of 40 (which is lower now), I current have high blood pressure, high cholest, and severe sleep apnea (just diagosed 03/30/09). BCBS FEP will cover 70% of the surgery which means I'll pay the remainder which is 5000.00. It's been a very long process and at times I forgot about it completely but then I get an appt letter. I have no idea what the next step in the process is. my bmi and co-morbs alone should be enough. Havent been hassled by BCBS but this Hospital is giving me hell (Scott&White, Temple TX) time line 6/11/2008 orientation 12/2/2008 initial appt plus finance (BCBS FEP approved) 12/4/2008 psych evaluation (passed) 01/16/2009 (cardio pulmonary exam/refer to sleep study) 03/30/2009 sleep study (sleep apnea confirmed) 04/03/2009: still waiting, no date as of yet, called bariatric coordination who said they are waiting on the sleep lab results. honestley these appts are a nuisance

    Heartburn

I was sleeved on 12/19, and around days 2 and 3 postop I had horrible heartburn and acid reflux that woke me up in the middle of the night. My surgeon had already prescribed me Protonix, which I was taking every morning as directed. When I asked him about it, he suggested I take a dose of Carafate right before bed, and it has helped tremendously! Also, I've been sleeping propped up so that I'm not laying flat on my back which has helped as well. I've also heard people suggest a heating pad. Good luck! Email your doctor if you can't find relief! They should be able to prescribe something for you. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

What to do with too big clothes?

Yes, it is definitely an ongoing issue. For every 10-15 lbs down now it is a new size in clothing. I made $300+ on my garage sale, but I was selling from 22W down to 16W....and advertised it as plus sized career clothes. Ironically the casual denim capris and such went fast, then the nicer Dillards and Saks workworthy stuff last. The remaining stuff I donated to a local church and they gave me a reciept for taxes. I like the idea of giving it to a nursing home too......

    I ate an egg...

I was sleeved on 10/1 and I can not eat a whole egg. I can eat maybe 1/2 and then I'm stuffed for like 12 hours shy of water. I usually get hungry in the morning and near bedtime other then that I graze.

    Don't look at me!!!!

I am excited and going to my first seminar tonight as well. My mind has already been made that the band is the way to go for me. Been looking into it for over a year now. Had a slight set back last year now I am back on track. AS far as the attention issue: I was an pretty nice size 10 about 8 years ago. I think I have had more attention on me since I have been morbidly obese. Can she fit in the booth? Can she fit on the elevator? Does she need help getting up the stairs...? All of that mess. I hate it. I felt SO much more normal being a "normal" size. I am 120lbs over now and ready to get rid of it. Trust me..if it is a cat whistle or a compliment from a stranger, it's a WHOLE lot better than the attention we get for being very large people.

  20. My Dr told me to start taking vitamins and supplements 10 days out. Today is my first day and I got the multivitamin down fine. I tried crushing the others and putting them in my protein drink..... Disgusting!!!!! Any suggestions?
  21. I had my gastric bypass surgery a little over 2 years now. I lost 85 lbs, the just stopped losing. I was ok with that, of course I want to still lose more. I maintained that weight for a year and a half, almost. In the last 2 months, I have gained 10 to 15 lbs. Its killing me, I feel terrible. My weakness is sweets. Can't seem to get enough of them. Does anyone have any alternatives, or recipes for cookies, cakes, any kind of sweets? Or what are some good healthy recipes for snacks? Would love any kind of help. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app
  22. I was having a lot of pain at 10 days out. Could not take deep breaths and severe pain in upper abdomen. Went to the ER. They ruled out a PE and any leaks. Surgery wise everything looked good but had some fluid in lungs and inflammation of the lining of my lungs. I am definitely walking more and using my IS and pain is somewhat better. I think the fluid in my lungs is better but still very painful to breathe deep and can't lay on side because of pain. I researched a bit and assuming what I have is a bilateral pleural effusion. I am supposed to make an appt for one more week with my surgeon but am concerned the effusion won't get better without intervention. It is still extremely painful. Anybody else have this? I can't find anywhere that this is normal and I am still painful. It has been 3 days since my trip to the ER. Thanks, Sue
  23. @WhatATool:-) I lost 19 lbs. the first month. I only weighed at the Doctor's office so I have no idea what I was earlier than that. While some might be disappointed by that number, I was thrilled. It was the most I'd ever lost in a month & I hadn't gained as I normally would have if I'd kept on as I was pre surgery. Now 15 years later, I am right where I want to be. I hope you will be, too.

What was your early weight loss like?

I was in the hospital for surgeries 5 days. I practically ate nothing but gained 19 lbs. during that time (IV Fluids). Went home and lost 5 lbs. per day for 4 days. After that, over the next 4 weeks I lost 5 lbs. per week. Post OP months 2 and 3 averaged 10 lbs. per month weight loss.
  25. I decided to post this so we can all remember the basic rules to succeed with vsg. I have noticed my weightloss has slowed down allot mostly due to eating too many carbs. Im in the calorie range my doc wants to be in but my carbs are high. according to his book if you stall or plateau its either 3 things:too much carbs, not enough exercise, or your building muscle. For me i think its the first 2. Here we go! 1. I will exercise 5 times a week for 30-45 minutes. 2.I will watch my carbohydrate intake 3.I will try to eat 3-5 meals per day with no unhealthy snacking in between 4.I will drink 8 glasses of Water per day 5.I will eat a minimum of 60-70 grams of Protein daily 6.I will honor my commitment to good health and healthy choices 7.I will have follow up care appointments with my doc as needed 8.I will always take my Vitamins 9.I will weight my self once a week 10.I will remember that this is my own journey and not compare my self to others 11.I will always keep in mind that practicing my new habits will make me healthier happier stronger and more energetic. This is what I turn to when I fall off the wagon sort of speak. I need to drink more water, eat more protein, exercise more, and drink more water. Gotta keep my head in the game. Thanks to my Dr.Alvarez for his awesome book about vsg. Hope this helps others
