I belong to the Slipped Band club

I just had revision surgery a month ago too - fixed a hernia too - and removed the gall bladder. That was BRUTAL!! But, I am not doing any lifting yet -I was told to wait a little longer. Maybe because I just had a tummy tuck too with muscle restriction. I do however feel fantastic so far with no more reflux. I get filled on Thursday and will report back if there is a change. Some bad news though - gained some weight - maybe as much as 10 pounds!!! (afraid to look) Let me know what you find out :glare:

Congratulations !!! Just wait until you go shopping for those jeans in size 8 or 10. On my surgery day a was wearing a size 20 jeans and I'm down to a size 12, last week I went to Macy's looking for those size 12 and I got lost in all the selections that they have in the smaller sizes, I think I got a little overwhelm from all the different kind of jeans that I could choose from. I was used to just go shopping to Lane Bryant. One more size down and I'll be at my goal. size 10 !!

3 Months Out And Sick To Stomach

Don't panic. I can't eat meat postop, either. My sleeve doesn't tolerate it. At 3 months, I was eating pretty much exactly what you are eating now. At almost 10 months, I still don't eat meat very often (I can tolerate taco-style hamburger meat but not roast-type meat or lunch meat). There are plenty of alternate Protein sources--beans/legumes, dairy, nuts, soy--that you can enjoy. Just take your time and try new things occasionally, and don't worry. Do what works for you. I ate protein bars a lot in the first few months postop (probably for the first 6 months, until I could tolerate enough "real" food to get enough protein). I would suggest that you ask your doctor about Iron, B Vitamins, and Vitamin D supplementation. :-) Hugs to you!
  4. I'll be 10 weeks post surgery on Monday. I'm unsure if the actual pounds lost to date as I shunned my scale, but I'm at least 2 sizes down on all of my clothes so I know I'm losing. I've never exercised "formally" in my life as I abhor it. But...I know that in order to maximize my weight loss and be as healthy as possible, I MUST start. I face several challenges in making time to exercise. First off, I have three small children; 2 in preschool, one in grade school. All three have homework which means Mommy & Daddy have homework! Secondly, I commute about an hour and 20 minutes one way to work every day. I literally live on one side of town and work on the other side, and work 8:30-5. Lastly, walking (the supposedly best way to ease into exercising) is off limits bc I have a completely torn ACL in my left knee. Physical therapist said no exercising that involves me picking up and putting down my foot!! I'm not really in a financial position right now to join a gym, and I can't see having the time to go anyway. I have a wonderful husband who does more than his share but our daily lives are jammed full from start to finish, and we already don't get enough sleep!! Help!!

    Denied by Aetna

Lol that is exactly what it has been! So much conflicting information! I finally was able to get them to say Texas law states there is a 72 hour turn around time. My clinicals were requested 10/16 at 3:07 they were faxed at 3:30 and I was denied at 4:39 so there basis of denial being that they didnt receive clinicals before I was denied by the medical director is a total lie. So after several hours of being on hold and speaking to everyone's supervisor, the nurse is calling me in the morning! I realize they won't overturn the denial but I am going to ask that my appeal be expedited due to their "mistake".
  6. There is a guy on here named Sam who I'm sure will see your post and give you all the correct info. Somewhere I have the phone # for Fill Center USA and I will search through my stuff if you need the phone #. Let me know and I will get their number for you and they will set you up on the Florida area. Welcome to LBT. I haven't had a fill yet. I was banded on July 19 and have lost 20 lbs. without a fill. I'm looking forward to getting my fill in Sept., but my dr. gives you plenty of time to heal. As for side sleeping, what 3 Loves told you about the pillow, is the best advise I could give you. It certainly helped me. I hope you are doing well. Don't hesitate to ask questions.

    Anyone in Jax?

Hi There welcome to LBT I am a jax bander too...just banded on 6/19 by Dr. Baptista at the Jax Weight Loss Center...I am very happy with their office thus far..they are very supportive and my surgery was GREAT only 1 incision :tongue_smilie:
  9. So, I was doing good, tracking my protein, calories, and carbs, eating good stuff, getting in lots of fruits and veggies. I actually lost about 10 pounds! Then BOOM! it was all over. I am feeling hungry all the time, eating just about anything I want, not getting my water in. I know the hunger is probably due at least in part to increased sugar intake. I am eating like a mad woman!!! :bored: And worse even, I am sneaking to do it! I stop by and buy food when I am alone in the car and eat it between home and work. Or I will buy a soda and drink it like I have been stranded in the desert or something! Candy bars at the grocery store that I eat on the way home. I have lost my mind!!! I was so proud of myself for doing so well and not even banded yet, but I am blowing it all out of the water now. The doctor even commented on how well I was doing and now I am afraid when I go for my pre-op visit I will have regained some of what I had lost and be ashamed all over again! I was so committed to this change and what it would mean for my life and now, I still am in my heart, but my head just isn't cooperating. What is wrong with me?:confused2:
  10. I was banded on 10/3/05 and have lost over 20#'s. I have had two fills approx 1.5 cc total... everytime it is getting close to visit my doctor (12/20) It seems I become a bottomless pit!!! I have been able to eat soooo much these last few days ARGGG! And the worst of it is my old behavior trys to creep in. I feel like Oh well I have no restriction I can eat Yeah Then my husband looks at me and I look at my plate and I am like WHAT ARE YOU DOING SILLY LADY!!! I am angry lonely tired and HUNGRY. But I don't think I am hungry in my belly. I recently was delayed on some work at school and my husband and I haven't had sex in......... and I feel like what the hell am I doin this for??? Then one of our houses has not leased for 4 months and we are paying two morgateges. I have never been this broke ARGGGGG I want to eat and eat and eat. The band was awesome and then these last few days when it would stop my shoveling (after about a cup and a half of food) all of a sudden changed. Last night i ate like I was smoking crack MORE MORE MORE Give me another shot of heroin .....WOW this is crazy. Now I am petrified like on my other million diets that I have screwed up and I can't make up for it. Like and idiot I weighed myself this moring . Something I swore I would never do after a bad day. What is this-- self sabotage? I am my own worst enemy. And cursed if everyone isn't saying WOW you look GREAT how much have you lost. Major trigger for me to say oh I can eat again I look better. I am losing my mind. I need for this not to be another dead end. I have been praying and reading posts and though I usually lurk decided I had to post or explode. Sorry this was long but I feel better knowing I am not alone in this crazy behavior. Elda

    Approved Today!

Congratulations!!! I am in Georgia and I am scheduled to have my band surgery on 10/28, can't wait. It is an awesome feeling to know that jumping thru all the insurance hoops has finally paid off. I hope everything goes smooth for you!!
  12. I have the same pain!!! I'm miserable 2 I had the surgery on 2/19/09. I was fine until my first fill!!
  13. I was banded on 5/19, so I'm obviously not ready for major toning exercises, especially anything using the core muscles. I have been walking, and I'm able to do that without discomfort at a decent pace, and longer each day. But I am losing pretty fast right now, and I really want to know when I can do something that builds muscle a little bit. I guess I have this fear of getting that "deflated" look. Probably more than a little irrational, I know. They generally say 5-6 weeks for strength training, right? But what if I'm 3 weeks post-op, my incisions are healed completely, and I don't feel any pain? Can I, say, do some squats or arm curls, or anything like that? Does it all affect the core or are there exercises that I can work on that will not dramatically affect my core muscles? Also: is there any harm in doing the elliptical rather than the treadmill? Is there a certain time one should wait to do that? If I can't start doing any strength training for another month, I'd like to at least get my upper half moving with the elliptical. Any help appreciated. I am following my food plan to a tee and won't do anything my doctor doesn't approve. Let me know what your experience was in easing back into working out after you were banded. Thanks!

@@Riz2006 I am so glad you are better - I just got done with a Fleet enema, oy ( -- I haven't tried Miralax, but heading to Walgreen's soon to get some -- I'm almost 10 weeks post-bypass and doing really well -- EXCEPT for this miserable, painful, horrible, no-good constipation, UGH UGH UGH!!!!! I was this-close a few days ago from going to ER -- I started on raw veggies recently, so having salads and black bean Soup last 2-3 days and praying the Fiber helps -- it's no consolation when you're straining till you're traumatized, crying and red-in-the-face, but you are most definitely not alone.

    New surgery, new member

Welcome. Please take this as a new way of living. It can be so different from past failures. There may be some bumps. But follow your drs advice and change your life! I'm over 10 years banded and am so happy. keep posting!
  17. I have been able to get all my protein from food since maybe 4-5 week (Started solids by day 4 as per my program) We were told that each meal has to be 1 protein portion and on portion is 10g of protein. If you eat 6 times a day, you'll get 60g. I'm 6 months out, I now eat 20g pr meal, 4-5 times a day. The key is meal prep. Figure out how to get 10g of protein into a meal. We were told that 1 egg is considered roughly 10 g. I have found a high protein yogurt that will give me 11g pr 100g. You have fish, chicken, who are fairly light to digest compared to red meat. I make creme cheese sauce with my chicken so it's not so dry, chew chew chew, and it goes down. It is possible is you put some time and effort behind it. Also, track your protein, that is my biggest suggestion.

    Anyone from British Columbia, Canada?

I am currently on the wait list in both Calgary and Medicine Hat. 3 years for both. I've been waiting 10 months now with not a single contact by either city. Mexico is looking like my only option if I want to try and have a child before menopause :/

It definitely does... My surgeon already had my goal in mind before I met him and I lost 10 lbs of it before I met him. That made him very happy and sped along the appointment process. Something that slowed mine down was my schedule, however. I'm a doctorate student and intern therapist, and my schedule was harder to work with for the psych appointment.
  20. Good luck! A lot of ur story mirrors my own. Had the lapbad and only lost 30lbs (that was in 2007). Now on Sept 13 2017 (10 yrs later), I had bypass. I thought this was going to finally be the tool to help me. In 1 month since my bypass, I've only lost 12lbs, and 9 of those 12 were lost in the first week post op! So frustrating! Especially with how excited i was to get bypass surgery! I am not trying to discourage you by any means, I just want to put realistic expectations out there for u. All the wonder tales posted here and told in group settings, about 40lbs lost 1st month or 70lbs down in 3 months, stuff like that, isn't necessarily a given. I dont know how they're doing that kind of loss and I'm not, but everybody's different. This procedures gotta help tho, right?! I gotta keep telling myself that. [emoji4] I hope your journey goes better than mine has so far. I wish i could give u advice to ensure urs goes amazingly but I'm following by the book and none too happy, so not sure what advice to give u. Although, the MOST positive thing is that I've had zero postop complications. None. That is fantastic and I'm happy about that part. On a separate note, Valley of the Sun, huh? Awesome! I am here too!! Who's your bypass surgeon, if ur comfortable answering? Mine is Dr Swain, whom I adore!

    Last Minute Weight Loss

I could just kick myself. I had my consult on Nov 13 and I was told to loose thirty pounds before the surgery. It wasn't until 1/8/09 that I started to try and loose weight and my surgery date is 2/9/09. Although I work best under pressure this may be too much pressure. Don't be like me, if the doctor says loose weight please start immediately. So far I have lost 10 pounds in one week 20 more to go.
  22. Hi I'm Lori and yes I been going to Dr. Malley and just got banded March 19, 2009.
  23. I have had a weight problem most of my life. As I reached my teen years I become more aware of my weight problem. With this I felt less and less confident and eventually I gave up hope of ever finding "someone." I went through my phases of crushes and people you talk to and when I was 16 I started dating someone who was 20. He was gorgeous and confident, 150 lbs, but I never really liked him as more than a friend. I think I was so scared that I was missing out on something I would never have the option to have again. I knew all along it was not right but I dated him for 2 years anyway. Throughout our relationship he put me down, told me how I wasn't good enough for him, and why don't I just go on a diet.( I think I have been on a diet since I was 10...lol) I finally got so sick of it I broke up with him only to find that he was cheating on me the whole time. Later that year I met a guy at work and we became best friends. I was so in love with him but was afraid to initiate a relationship because of what I had already gone through. He eventually ended up asking me out and we have been together ever since. He is everything I could ever ask for, and he supports me 100%. He is not a "big" guy, and he is very athletic. I always tell myself that there are good people out there who are accepting and can love someone no matter what. Hold your head high hunny, and remember that you are worth finding someone who is going to treat you like you deserve. Again like it was said before , I have looked at you pictures and you have nothing to worry about. You are a beautiful girl.:grouphug:

    Cajun Girl's First Post

I am pretty anxious! I literally just finished my first pre-surgery diet meals (all protein shakes). My good friend is having hers done in 2 1/2 hrs! We are 2 weeks apart. :purplebananna: She lost 10 lbs in the first week of the diet. I'm not sure about the second week. My personal goal is 100 lbs. If I loose more I'll be happy too.:Banane01:
  25. If you go back and look, many of us have complained, whined, wimpered about how much we gained day of surgery...for me it was 6-7 pounds due to IV fluids for 24+ hours straight...and it took me about 5 days to get rid of that and back to "normal"....Since then I'll lose 4 pounds in 1 week then 1 pound for a week or two then none for a week or two, then 3-4, repeat...1-2 pounds a week consistantly is realistic and nothing to be upset about. Be proud that you're losing 1-2 a week. Also, you're so close to surgery your body is still adapting and your metabolism is adapting. When I do liquids I lose quickly for 7-10 days then come to a screeching halt for a while....I've calculated it and when I'm on my docs liquid diet I average about 600 calories a day, my body doesn't like that and the weight loss stops, totally. Keep your chin up, 10 pounds is great!
