Just got banded June 22, need some advice
Acadia replied to feistybeagle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Any fiber drink mix should work and won't make your system work too hard. If it doesn't work, mix 1 L of water with 2 tsp natural sea salt. Dissolve the salt in hot water first then mix with a large quantity of cold water to make it easier. It will go through you FAST. Be near a toilet. And make sure you have around three hours because it can take a while to clear out completely. -
The date is set.. Now where are my dancing shoes???

My daughter and I considered the lap band and then decided from the posts and other family members with the band that perhaps VSG was the way to go and decided then to change our procedure, neither one of us came home with MRSA...or any other infection, we are currently 8 weeks out and we are doing great and happier then ever. I don't know if we've been in the same behav. grp. I started on Feb. 23rd, went to that one but missed the one on March 9th because I couldn't get my youngest daughter back home and then make it into Boston on time. I went to the 3rd one this past week though. It sounds like it's not as big a deal with Dr. Saltzman as I thought it might be. I like that. I'll try not to eat that morning so that I can get my blood work done. Hopefully they will do it that morning if I have time. I'd have to leave by noon for me to get back to work on time for my afternoon run (I'm a school bus driver). Thanks for the tips. I hope you are doing well also. Take care!! Cathy

Guess the old saying "you can't teach an old dog a new trick" is true. I'm still the same weight I was a week ago. I guess I will never learn how to eat, or how to make the right choices. I feel like a complete failure. I just don't seem to be able to do this. I guess I will have to be happy with what I have lost and be happy never gaining it back. I really wanted to lose a little more so that I could get into a smaller size before we go on vacation in January. I just don't see that happening right now. I don't know rather I should get another fill or just wait awhile. I'm really tired of thinking about it. I just want to lose weight. Maybe if I quite worrying about it the weight will come off. I know it won't, but I get so discouraged when I see people posting about only eating 1000 calorires or less a day and still not losing weight. I just don't feel that is a healthy diet. I guess maybe I will find out how much it cost to joing the Y. Maybe I could go there this winter and walk on the track. I need to do something for excersise. My sister is so thin and I'm so jealous. I want to be a size 12 or even 14. My sister is down to a size 6, I don't think I would ever look good at that size. I just don't see myself as thin. I don't believe it will every happen. Proof is that I can't seem to lose even 50 lbs with the band. I hope this wasn't a mistake. It cost a lot of money and I just don't seem to lose. I really feel like a loser.

Hi Carol- I've been reading the journal section longer than I've been writing in it. I've been reading your entries for a while now. I've never read any of the comments you've gotten before so I don't know if I'll be repeating what anyone else has said befor. Anyway- Have you tried attending a local support group? I've only gone to mine once. We only have one monthly so I havn't gone since I've been banded (I'm 2 weeks post-op). A lot of the gals there the night that I went had feedback to situtations such as yours. The main one is going to a nutritionist and following the diet they give you. Other than that, you have lost some weight... that's better than gaining right? And let's say you stay the same for the next year but then you get motivated and drop 10 or 20 more pounds and the band helps you keep it off. And if this senario keeps up then eventually you will get closer and closer to whatever your goal is. It may take a long time but it would be working. Food addiction is a hard thing. We can't just quit. We have to eat to survive. It's unfortunate for those of us who love food and use food inappropriately (for something other than just nutrition). Keep talking to your doctor... maybe see a nutritionist... seek a local support group... maybe a personal counsler to help you through this. Try not to beat yourself up too much. We are all only human. Take care of yourself. I hope things get better. ~Tina

My post-op allows these in the pureed food stage in weeks 3 and 4. But they specifically say: soft poached egg, fish (moist and mashed with a fork). Cottage cheese was allowed in weeks 1 and 2. I'd call your surgeons office and get direction from them. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Nope, stay the course! It's just your body adjusting. You won't lose a ton of weight every week or every day... it's more of a flux. Stay on your plan and prepare for lots of pauses. Your body needs time to adjust to everything happening inside. And also track your non scale losses-- a change in how your clothes fit, watches flopping around, shoes coming off of your feet, etc. The Sleeve works. It's very hard to screw this up. Hang in there !

Well i think the arms are a little harder to tone than the legs. At least for me. I have found the most wonderful machine in the world... It's called the ArcTrainer. It has really shaped my legs and butt. I use the "weight loss" mode on a low level. I started out only being able to stay on for like 5 minutes and am now up to 45 minutes averaging 3+ miles. I do this 3 to 4 times a week along with some weight training. I have only lost 50 pounds since October but have gone from a size 22W to 16W. So I honestly believe without this machine I would not be getting the results by just losing weight alone.

Just Starting My Journey. Hoping For Banding In Dec 2012
AnnetteT replied to pKay327's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Everyone is different, but in January I was on 7 insulin shots every day. I started my pre-op diet in February and had my lap band surgery on March 1, 2012. I put myself on the pre-op diet for the entire month instead of the 2 weeks my doctor recommended. I am happy to say that I have not had an insulin shot since mid February. I was told by my surgeon they would give me a precautionary dose of insulin the morning of my surgery, but when they checked my meter for the previous 2 weeks they said I didn't need it. I've been banded for 6 months and have still not taken any shots or pills for diabetes. When i had blood work a couple of months ago my doctor told me i am borderline of not being considered diabetic anymore. This journey save my life. I wish you luck and look forward to your progress updates. -
Two weeks out with sore spots
generator77 replied to Shaunie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just remember that your body is still healing. Just because your top layer of skin looks good doesn't necessarily mean the other layers are done healing yet. The six week guideline is a reminder that those other parts aren't all healed up yet. -
I dont know why after the transition from liquids to soft or mooshie food i only lost 3 pounds its being 3 weeks and im stuck. I dont know if i should go back to liquids to loose more weight or this is normal. The difference now is that I eat fish, ground beef, chiken, refried Beans, cheese, and before was only broth and liquids. I dont know if i should keep eating broth again, instead of beans Soup and panera bread Soups. Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App

you definatly need to be having more then 3 meals a day. there is no way for you to get everything that you need in 3 small meals a day. no wonder you feel so bad! you poor thing!!! i eat 6 meals a day.....and when i say meals, really i mean snacks. you shouldnt feel bad about one slip up.....ive had a ton. you are only 6 weeks post op and have lost 17 pounds!!!!! that is almost 3 pounds a week....that is amazing! stop stressing yourself out, and have a little fun with this journey. that is what i have chosen to do. you can do it!

Search the topic "3 week stall" and that will provide you with some valuable information. It's common. Your body is adjusting to the caloric intake.

My surgery was 2/9/12 and at about 3 months, my hair started falling out even th0 I took an extra vitamin and biotin everyday. Alot fell out, I mean alot, even tho I had really thick hair to begin with. Then about two weeks ago, I went and got it cut. She took off much more than I asked for, but what do you know- it basically stopped falling out! It is still a lot thinner than I am used to but, I am hoping it will grow back.

I was fine after 2 weeks (we hadn't tried before then). I didn't experience any discomfort from the port incision or anything... just discomfort from being fat, haha. -
Hey Sunshine, Not good luvvy!!! Toast is never a good thing - best to steer clear me thinks. My Dr said substitute bread with Rivita crisp bread or Saladas, they dont turn into a doughy ball in your stomach. I had an 'experience' with sushi a few weeks ago. 3 bites in, 10 minutes of pain and then 'high tide' and it all came gushing out. I dont think i will be going there again. dont let it depress you though..... just make better choices. Megs

well, we're all so different. dh and i waited for one week, most postitions were great...but a couple were not. just try it, and if you feel any discomfort, stop, and try something else. you really should ask your doc, just ask about sex in general, you don't have to get into details.

I agree!! I was just saying at a support group last night that if I were to get in this situation I'd go liquids for a WEEK to let things settle down. Allowing this cycle to continue could lead to real problems over time. Take it GENTLY and realize you have to heal before you can move forward.

Hi all! It's been 2 months and a week since I got banded. I have no fill and have lost about 40 pounds. I was really sick for the first month and a half after surgery though and had to stay on liquids and mushies the whole time. That helped significantly. This last month i have been losing about 1-2 pounds a week which seems good to me. I'm not even exercising yet so feel i should do that before I get a fill. Part of me would like to continue to lose at the rate I did initially but.. I know that 1-2 pounds a week is average. If I wanted to lose more I could be eating healthier (i eat ok) and exercising every day.

I lost most of my weight without a fill. My first fill was on July 23rd, 2007. I think I have lost around 8 pounds since then. I have the VG band also. I have to say though that I starting walking in the hospital and am now riding my bike 70-100 miles a week. So, the exercise had a lot to do with my rapid loss. Certainly wasn't will power, I have none of that.

I am going to see my surgeon today. I was banded on 1/26 and this appt. is for my second fill. I wonder if I should have one. Last time he inserted 2 cc's in a 10 cc band. What a difference this made! I had definite restriction on quantities and types of foods. I would say I must have pb'd 3 times a week during the first two weeks post-fill. It was my adjustment to my adjustment period. During the last week, I have only had one issue and that was because the meat was too dry, I was tired and ate too quickly. Anyway, is it typical to get a second fill so soon? I am still able to eat a decent amount of food, slowly, chewed well. I would say I can still eat about 5-6 oz of Protein and at least that amount of starch/vegetable. I have read several postings that indicate they can only eat 5 - 6 bites at a sitting and then have to stop. Is that the restriction I should be looking for? I hate to think that an additional fill may make me pb again! I suppose I will just get used to being more restricted? Your thoughts and suggestions are welcome. Thanks. Karen
