  1. Hey guys!! I have a few NSV's to share with ya'll. Yesterday, I saw a few people I haven't seen in a while and one of them called me "skinny minny", lol. I so don't see myself as a skinny minny, but it felt really nice to hear. I have been getting a little attention from men lately too. It's a little overwhelming because I'm not used to it, lol. DH has noticed too and he's so funny about it all. He said he's really gonna have to start shredding some weight to keep up with me, lol. Oh, and today I ran a full 5K!! It took me about 41 minutes to do it. It's so strange to think that I can run for that long. I'm on such a high right now!! Have a great day everyone!!

    July Butterfly NSV's!

I was a 26/28 top and a 24 bottom, I now wear 20/18 bottom and 22 tops. My closet is empty, my cloths dont fit. I gave them to Goodwill. I'm a school bus driver, I no longer zig-zag down the bus asile. I can actualy walk stright down the asile and dont bounce between the seats. And my belly doesnt touch the steering wheel. I have more energy! OMG! I sleep better, I sleep like the dead! I dont snore anymore and my back no longer hurts in the morning. And the best NSV, my dd hugs me and tells me "Mommy, I can wrap my arms around you when I hug you." Thats the best one of all. Tina

    Couch to 5k.....come join me!!

Georgia... WTG!!!! I knew you could do it! That is an excellent time! I'm so happy for you! You are going to rock this race in Nov. Bea... excellent speed! You're going to be so fast you'll be a blurrr going by! Keep it up. I agree with the NSV... the energy and non-huffing is so great!

    Couch to 5k.....come join me!!

Congrats Aclubb!!! That's awesome! You too Kathy! I'm so happy for you. Lyn - sorry about your race, but your sweet granddaughter is right, there will be more. I did a 5K this morning on the treadmill. I've been doing faster intervals to increase my endurance. I did 7.0 today for 30-45 sec intervals then back down to 6 or 5 depending on how I was feeling. I am amazed at how much better my cardiovascular endurance is now. It takes longer to get my heart rate up, but on the flip-side it returns to normal a lot faster! It feels so good not to be huffing and puffing when going up steps or whatever. Feeling healthy has to be the best NSV ever!! I hope you all have a great day!!

Oneder woman I was at the peanut festival on Saturday too! I watched the parade, (well most of it-It got kinda LONG at the end) But I had sort of a NSV that day as well! We parked waaay far south of the parade and then had to walk all the way to hwy 82 and across for the booths- It was a TERRIBLY long way to walk- and I managed to walk all that way and around all the boothes and all the way back to the car without dying!! I even resisted all the yummy smelling food that was out at the festival too! Which was a huge victory for me. I even sat and watched my daughter scarf down a peice of pizza right beside me and didn't even want it! I am the type of person who can watch food network and salivate- so this was pretty huge for me. Before the band pizza was one of my favorite and most eaten foods- now I cannot really stand it. Isn't it funny how that is. I didn't make all good choices this weekend- I had some chocolate at the movies and such but I did get my tail moving so that's at least better than before! I'm planning on getting all my water in and working out during my lunch break so wish me luck guys! Hopefully everyone will have a good day On- Plan!

    About freakin' time!!!!

Well I do feel a little restriction today though being on liquids this time and actually feeling ok in myself I think I am getting hungrier quicker...then I don't know if it is in my head!...I can't wait to eat something a little more solid! The nurse did my fill. She asked if I minded, I replied "So long as you are a good shot I don't mind!!" It didnt' hurt and was over very quick! She then said book in for your next fill between 3-4 weeks. I booked in at the 3 week mark  Doc was in a long consult and they usually do a quick face time and a hi how are you going on your first fill....they said you can do it next time if you don't want to wait...I was like great! out of there and off to work! I got 2cc's put in my 10cc band! Oh and a NSV today...one of the guys at work has been sick and off for the past 8 weeks. He came in today and when I walked in he said hey you're looking great you've lost a bit of weight *Really loudly* I said yes I have...then some of the other guys start saying "oh yeah I guess because I see you every day it isn't as obvious!!" then my friend who knows what I have had done said and your pants are getting SO LOOSE!! hehe maybe it is time I raided the wardrobe again!

GG - That is a HUGE nsv! I miss feeling strong like that so much. After my imaginary future babies, as I like to call them, that is my biggest motivator - feeling strong and in control of my body. So WOO HOO for you! That is fabulous! I had one too. We had an entry in the peanut parade in Sylvester on Saturday and I walked the whole route w/o being tired. It isn't far, and it's slow (duh, it's a parade) BUT still I would have had a much harder time last year. People are starting to notice the weight loss, too. I've gotten a lot of comments lately. I don't see it yet, other than in my face, but others are, so that's nice. Ally, L2L, Mia, ABC, Jonathan, Para....how is everyone? WHERE is everyone?

    My Biggest NSV

You are amazing! That is a fantastic NSV. So when is the first 5K going to happen??? You should be very proud. It's quite a gift you've given yourself.

    July Butterfly NSV's!

Congrats on all your NSV's!! I was size 22 now down to 18 and can even fit into 16 in some styles. I have not been that small for at least 9 years. I can actually run now. Never have I been able to run during a workout. The biggest NSV for me will be when I can get on my horse without using a fence, or mounting block. That will be a changing point in my life. I am still struggling, but maybe another 6 weeks and it will happen for me. :w00t:

I ran a mile without stopping...and I could have gone for longer!!! It felt like it has taken me forever to get to this point. I am really happy because I have never ever been able to run a mile. My heart health has improved dramatically and that is the greatest gift I can give myself. Yahoo!:w00t:

    OCT 29th anyone?

Hello ladies!-oh and men if we have any. Yesterday sucked! I have to email my weight to my nutritionist every Friday and I had not lost any weight-but I did cheat a few times so I kinda knew. Anyway, I have still kept off 18 lbs and just for the heck of it decided to try on a pair of jeans I haven't worn in 2 yrs. They fit-very snug, but they fit! Yea NSV!!! Heaven forbid I gotta fart cause it sure won't have anywhere to go but dang it..I got them on!!! LOL!!! We went out and got a few things for our trip today. I can't believe we're leaving this coming Friday. I think with the trip and meeting my husbands family for the first time that it will really keep my mind off being so nervous about the surgery. I dread the plane ride-I KNOW I will have to have a seatbelt extender. CRY!!

    OCT 29th anyone?

Hey you all! I had a NSV (Non Scale Victory) (sorta) last night. I have been on my liver shrink diet since the 14th and a good friend of mine who hasn't seen me all week asked how much weight I have lost already. She guessed 10-15lbs! And it was only about 5-8lbs. She had gastric bypass surgery about 3 yrs ago and is doing great but she noticed and said I look a lot less "bloated". YEA!!! Can't wait to really shock some people that haven't seen me in a long while. Well everyone have a great day and remember We Will Get Through This and It Will Be SOOO Worth It.

I hate I missed the meeting. Oneder Woman, the speaker at the first meeting was kinda the same way. She said she still ate junk, just less of it and she didn't exercise either. That just goes to show how different we all are. I can't eat junk and lose. That's just not the way it works. And if I didn't exercise, I guarantee I would not be losing. Kinda sucks, but that's just the way it is for me. Thought I would share a small NSV with ya'll. Most of ya'll know I have been training for a 5k next month. I was beginning to wonder if I would be ready. Anyway, after being sick a few days and not running, I went to the YMCA today and ran. I ran for 30 minutes straight....about 2.3 miles! No way I could have done that without my band. Now I finally believe that I can be ready for the run! I finally feel like my hard work is beginning to pay off! Have a great weekend everyone!
  17. That is so funny and soooo encouraging! I went out Monday to the mall and wasn't going to buy anything - just browsing & waiting on my glasses to get fixed. So, I cruised through Carson's plus size dept and decided I would ease over to the misses section - just to check. I tried on four size 16 tops and two of them fit snug, but I thought to myself... if my belly goes down - I can wear these. So, I got them! They were on clearance & oh, so cute! Could have never found that in my 20/22 blouses. I'm amazed. Now that I'm getting ready to go back to work Monday, I've tried on a few of my business suits because I know I'll need to alter a bit. Well, the pants I can easily do, but the jackets look a mess on me and that's certainly a NSV for me! So, yesterday I politely clipped all of the 20% off coupons off for Carson's and if I can find some really, really discount prices this weekend - I think I've found an excuse for at least 2 new outfits to mix and match for work!

    I'd like to help someone

Hi April410, Thanks for your post. Good to hear from you. You have done so much already towards your weight loss in terms of preparation, which is great. Let's talk about motivation. I'll tell you what motivated me. I couldn't get up the stairs without being out of breath. Ordinary things were a real bind - even putting on my own socks was difficult. But more than anything else, I was scared. I could see my life just drifting away. I am mortal, and this is where I met my mortality. I knew I had to do something, not just tinker at the edges. I had to be radical. That's where the lapband came in. The pre-op diet isn't a sexy thing. It's a necessary step to take for the surgery to have more of a chance to be successful. Sometimes, I just had to grind it out. Grit my teeth and ask myself 'how much do I want this?' I realised I wanted it a lot. That's what kept up the motivation then. When I started to lose the weight, I started to see NSVs. Clothes fitted better, then not at all. I needed a new smaller belt. Then someone would ask 'have you lost weight?'. Then, I could exercise a little longer. All of these steps kept me motivated. In the next two months, you can start doing exercise. Slowly at first - just do a minute each day for a few days. Then two minutes and so on. You don't have to starve yourself, just eat sensible foods and get rid of the junk. Eat slower - take your time to enjoy your food. The disappointment in not getting your surgery earlier is over. Look to the future and try to attain a positive outlook. Look forward to a new exciting future that weight loss can help bring. Above all, enjoy the experience. Don't look for negativity or ask 'what happens if' questions. The next period of your life is set to be one of great achievement and people will be so proud of you. Just make sure that no one is more proud of you - than you. Please keep in touch, either email, PM or this forum. Best of luck for your journey - you can and will do it I'm sure.
  19. This is a great forum! I am embarrassed sometimes to post on the other places because my results are depressing. but its my own fault, I accept that. I stupidly told friends when I got the lap band so now they are asking what's up. It does take discipline and commitment, willpower, etc. All those things a traditional diet requires. The good thing; however, is with the lap band, you really should not be physically hungry and I'm not! I fight head hunger. It is a struggle to exercise regularly. For what ever reason, my weight has always and will continue to be a battle. So I will take your advice on the protein. I will celebrate every fraction of a pound that I lose even if it is not comparable to others. I will ignore the short term reactions from my friends and look forward to the long term rewards. And I will recognize all of the NSV and keep my chin up. thanks guys. I need a good slapping around sometimes.
  20. It sure has been quite in here. I wonder what has happen to everyone over the past couple of years? Anyone heard from MS DAD and others? Here is an NSV/Update It is hard to beleive that it has been 13 months since I have been banded. A lot of things have happen since being banded and I will do that in another post.In June of 2007 I went in for a sleep study and found out that I did indeed have sleep apena. I was put on a CPAP machine in August 07 and did ok with it. I was banded in September of 2007. After being banded I was having some issues with the CPAP machine, in regards to being bloated all the time and taking the mask off at night. I talked with my doctor about this and he had the machine set to the lowest settings. He also suggested that I look into getting a dental applaince. I went and meet with the dentist who deals in sleep apnea and she said it would not be a problem and so it took about 4 months to get it approved by insurance. I was fitted with the herbest retainer in February, 2008. I went back to my doctor who handles the sleep apnea in August and he was real pleased with the way I looked and the amount of weight lost. So the doctor order a new sleep study. I had the sleep study on year to the date of being banded. I will say that the band can help people get away from using the CPAP. Keep in mind that everyone is differant and what works for one might not work for the other person. Here is the results of the study:Per BandOriginal study (pre weight loss) Weight 250 BMI 40Breathing event per hour: 68Total breathing cessation per hour: 49Lowest recorded oxygen level: 70%BandedNew Study: post weight lossWeight 186 BMI 29.1 Breathing events per hour: 19.4Total breathing cessation per hour: 19.4Lowest recorded oxygen level: 91%With the Herbst Retainer Dental Device:Breathing events per hour: 4.6 (counting little bitty ones 6.2)Total breathing cessation per hour: 4Lowest oxygen level: 92%It turns out that with the Herbst, you are worst when you lie on your left side. Then you have 8.3 events per hour. In dream sleep, you have 10.2 events per hour.I went to the sleep doctor this week to review this study and he said that I could stop using the CPAP Machine and continue with the Herbst Retainer. He also said that my numbers were low enough that even if I did not use the retainer that I could do away with the CPAP. He also felt the numbers would go down lower with more weight loss. My goal range is between 165-175. He also said that I did not need to come back and see him unless I feel that Iam having problems. He said that I can just go back to the dentist and get a new herbest retainer when this one wears out in a few years. Also I no longer have any snoring issues either. So as you can see here proof is in the pudding about the band and how it can help everyone out. It just takes a lot of time and effort to make it all happen. It does not happen overnight.Chris

    Minor NSV!!!!

Congrats to you both!!! Big or small NSV's they ALL count!!! I have found that for some strange reason---if the scale sticks, that is when the inches dropped off! I took measurements, in the beginning, and have lost lots more inches overall than the 70" I claim. The 70" is my Curves measurements, and they don't measure things like your neck---I lost 2 inches around my neck! And another 2 off of each calf! It is such a boost when the scale gets stuck to actually see the inches dropping!!! Keep up the good work!!! Kat

    Your Journey

Hey Girlfriends, I had surgery 29 Aug. I have had one fill of 0.7cc. Not feeling too much restriction but trying my best to stay on track. It's a hard thing to do. I've lost 39 lbs. I've hired a personal trainer who has put 5lbs of muscle on me which is good. From 23 Sept to now, I've lost 2 1/2 inches off my waist and 1 inch off each thigh! Now, I'm learning to appreciate NSV (non-scale victories). I'm grateful to God that He allowed me to take this path. Let's hear some more updates!

    Non Lapband Victory.... Woot!

Ok, so I don't have many nsv or nlbv or nsurgicalv or anything like that... but today - I had a great NSV/NLBV/NSGV I recently (last week) "adopted" four feral kittens that were roaming the neighborhood. They have had no human contact are are about 8-10wks old. So I set a trap and caught em. All four. Then I put them in a cage in my bathroom where I was determined to tame them so I could get them good homes. For the first 2-3 days they were confined to the cage where I changed their bedding, litter, Water, food daily and sometimes more than once per day as needed. By day 3 one kitten would come up to my hand and let me pet him for about 3 seconds. After those first few days in confinement, I let them have free range in my bathroom with access to their cage as needed/as they wanted. That went on for about 2 days - then the boys (two male kittens) were sweet enough to let me pet them a bunch so they got free range of the house. Now those two boys are the biggest babies. One especially who is my newest little baby. I will be keeping him for sure. He is so jealous and wants me all to himself. It is so cute. So the girls were still in the bathroom because they would hiss and through a fit if anyone came in the bathroom. They almost seemed hopeless. But now that we are one week and one day into the "Taming Project"... the scared little girls came up to me today and let me love on them. They purred like crazy. There is hope yet!!!! I am soo stoked because I am pressed for taming time because we are moving on Saturday and would have to give them to the pound Friday. I know those two little girls would get a fast track to the euthanizia if they didn't turn around and now they are seeming to really come around. I am sooooooo happy!!! Just had to share that because I don't have anyone else to share that story with, so yall are the first I am sharing it with. Soooo happy!!!! Yeah. I will post pictures later..
