  1. Wow, your post made me laugh and then sigh! No, normal sized people (even ones that want to lose 40 pounds) have no idea how desperate you can become. Or how each failure piles onto the last one until you've got your own Mt. Kilimanjaro to climb. My mother (never had a weight problem, died of COPD) strongly encouraged me to take up smoking. Really! And, no, I didn't go there.

    New to all

Hello, I am new to not only lap band surgery scheduled for June 30th, but also to a forum. I am 326lbs and I am so excited to have the surgery. I do have a question that I am having a hard time finding out an answer too. I have PCOS and that makes it hard to lose weight, believe after months of following strict diets and only losing 3 or 4 lbs is very flustrating. Does anyone have PCOS and banded and how are you doing on the weight loss? Thank you for helping. I have learned alot already just reading other threads.
  3. finally got official approval from insurance last week. go next week for my pre-op. not sure how much weight i've lost on the no-fun pre-op diet, but i've still got two more weeks to get that liver small. the last couple of days i've been having pain on my right side under my ribs. my PCP says it might be my gallbladder, so i'm doing a hida scan on saturday. isn't that ironic that i'm eating the healthiest in my entire life, and now i might have gallbladder problems. even more ironic, it's the Protein shakes that are giving me the attacks. ah well. i'm hoping if it is a gallbladder issue that the doc will play nice and do both at the same time. my PCP says sometimes insurance won't pay for both if you do both at the same time, so docs are hesitant. but i really don't want to go under the knife twice, and i read somewhere that a pretty high percentage of LB patients end up with gallbladder problems, so better to get it out now, i suppose. all in all, my spirits remain pretty high. i've been putting most of my focus into what foods i'm eating, even logging everything at livestrong.com (cool website, btw.) now i'm on a personal Quest to find the "perfect combo" of protein, carbs, and fat for my weight loss goals. thanks to everyone for their surgery stories. while some of them have made me even more nervous about what COULD happen, it's helped me in another way really get mentally prepared for this huge event in my life.
  4. @@AvaFern I have 71 pounds to lose until I hit the "normal" weight. But my personal goal is 90 or maybe 100 (but that's pushing it). I have lost only 10 pounds pre-op but I hope that I will be as successful as you with the surgery. Congratulations on your accomplishments! I hope you reach your final goal soon! ????

    July27th down 90lbs

Ok...90 lbs loss is not failing!!! So you have a set back - it's easy to let old habits sneak back in. Try going back to basics. I also recommend counseling/therapy to deal with emotional eating. I'm doing it pre-op and surprised at how much it seems to be helping. You should be proud of your success so far and don't self sabotage!!! Here's a good article and also a 5 day reset you should try. Stay strong! http://www.helpguide.org/articles/diet-weight-loss/emotional-eating.htm
  6. When I first started posting on this forum in August 2013, I loved, and still do love, reading the stories of people who had hit certain goals. My surgery was in September 2013, and I knew the three postings that I wanted to make....the one year surgiversary post, the 100 pounds lost post (which is the exact pound that puts me into the normal BMI range), and of course, the day I reached my final goal weight. My one year surgiversary was in September, so knocked that one out, but as of today I have lost 100 pounds and I am finally in the "normal" range on a BMI chart! In the past I have lost 80-90 pounds a few times, but never 100, and I am now 1 pound thinner than I have ever been over the age of 21. Also, 137 is the cut-off for my height between "normal" and "overweight", so technically my entire adult life I have been classified as "overweight" according to the evil BMI chart, and as of this morning, I am normal!! Thirteen months ago I was sitting at my computer reading through all of these posts wondering if I should risk my life (surgery freaks me out) in the hope that maybe I could lose weight with a sleeve. I am now totally in the group of people that can say that the only thing I regret is that I didn't do it sooner. I have 8 pounds to my original goal and 18 pounds to 119 which was always my goal when I was younger. Fingers-crossed I will get to make my third posting sometime soon! Thanks to everyone for all of their postings over the last year- it has been nice to not feel alone on the sleeve journey!

    Question for the ladies

Yes, your hormones change a lot when losing a lot of weight. My periods have actually become regular and now because of my changing hormones, I am having cramps I haven't had since I was really young. I agree I would notify your DR.

5 Weeks of a New Life

Amazing weight loss! I was 5 weeks out yesterday (Wednesday) our stories sound so similar. I have alarms set for everything lol. I'm bad about drinking shakes over eating tho. I'm working on that. I drink the slim fast advanced nutrition mocha shake, for breakfast, and the chocolate advanced nutrition slim fast brand. Thier gluten, & lactose free. Good luck with your journey! Here if you ever need an ear!! Having a amazing support system makes all the difference! Sent from my SM-N900V using BariatricPal mobile app
  9. The only dr I could find from the last 2 years was 18 months ago and he did not write down the weight the first time I visited him (even though we talked about it) and the second time he wrote "250+! Weight needs to go down!" I was 256 or so the first time I saw him, exactly 40%. Second time, I guess 254 or so. Grrrr. How can the ins companies expect me to get a good record if #1 I hate going to the dr because he weighs me (I had hurt my foot) and #2 if the dr doesn't keep good records!
  10. Im on reg foods now and i gained 2lbs! I read that until the first fill most people gain weight but its very discouraging! I feel like im doing something wrong.

1.5 Months till my 1st Band Birthday!

Well it has been some time since I posted to my blog. It probably has something to do with consistant loss of weight since then. Well I should say until recently. I guess I have alot to be happy about, but can't seem to be at this time. I guess gaining 4 pounds seems like alot at this point in time and it is impossible not to feel discouraged. I was filled to 7.6cc but had reflux and heartburn so I went back to the doctor and he took out a whole 1.0cc. I guess I should be thankful he didn't take the whole fill out:scared2:. Since then I have been so hungry it is driving me crazy, nothing seems to fill me up, or at least not before everything comes back up. I NEED HELP!!! My next fill is not for 16 more days, I am worried I will have gained 20 pounds by then if not more. I am trying to stay positive but it has been frustrating. I guess I should be focusing on the 70+ pounds I have lost, but I just can't seem to get past this hopeless feeling. I really had hoped to be down at least 10 more pounds than I am right now. I just need to refocus. Good luck to all on their journey. I am hoping this blog can help me put things into prospective.

Two Surgeons but one choice = Dilemma

I had the band out and 4 months later had a sleeve. Everyone gains weight while the band is out. I think surgeon number 2 is the way to go. It is harder to lose weight after a revision so why gain it and have to lose it again.

    Sleeve with a band...?

I saw where you were only eating 800 calories in February. You didn't lose weight eating that little? Are you still eating that way? If so, then another surgery won't really help. I don't know your stats, but maybe it'd be good to look at what you are doing to see if a non-surgical solution is your best bet..

    Is This "normal"

Chunkychick....sometimes we think the less we can take in the better, but for health purposes its not true, the sooner you can get 64 oz of liquid and 75-80 grams of protein in the better, you are perfectly managing your intake at about 600-700 calories. My body loses in steps, I stay the same for awhile and then boom, I'm down another 5 pounds. This isn't a race and when we read posts about crazy huge losses really fast there are so many factors including male or female, starting weight, how much exercise, heredity....I always had stalls before my sleeve, and I still do but I am close to 100 pounds thinner since starting the weight loss journey last summer 2011. I was on a mandatory 12 week pre-op program and lost 28 pounds on a low calorie diet before having surgery in April 2012. This has changed my life, I lose slow and easy, but I feel healthy and finally enjoying shopping in regular stores not the big girl stores. Good luck, I am happy to give you any support that I can.

    Is This "normal"

Count yourselves lucky that you can get your fluids in easily...I was the same way and my surgeon said everyone is different and some have less swelling and inflammation. Stalls are a normal part of losing weight...your body is adjusting, just keep it up and you'll see that you lose the weight sometimes slow but surely. Don't worry...you'll feel the REAL restriction when you get to solids.
  17. Well I had got the lap band 10/24/10. My biggest weight was 285 pounds. I lost weight throughout having my bad but at a very slow process. Throughout the years I regret getting the lap band. This year in March I was diagnosed with diabetes and my hypertension returned. My doctor and I decided to remove the band and go for a the sleeve. April 30, 2013 I was 202.8 lbs when I had my procedure done. It's now been six days and I just had my post op appointment. Since the surgery this is no sign of the diabetes and I am now 194 lbs. I'm happy with my choice so far. The recovery is so much better than getting the band. This is a long journey to a healthier new life and a new me. I have not been under 200 pounds since I had my 3rd child. This is a blessing. I struggled a little with the liquids and taking in my protein but I will get better. I even got thrush. These are just little bumps and I will keep you posted with my updates.

    August bypass friends

My RNY on August 17th went very well, and I seem to be healing with no complications. Highest weight: 443 Day of surgery: 387 Current weight: 349
  19. I was banded April 7 and have lost 74 pounds since I started my preop diet. I am off my Nexium, off my diabetes meds, off half my cholesterol meds and down from a size 22 to a size 14. My A1C went form 6.8 to 5.9. Suddenly I am having trouble with getting stuck a lot, vomiting up meats and foods I should eat. I am suddenly eating a lot of slider foods and not losing. I get stuck on the first bite or two. I do not eat slowly enough or small enough bites sometimes, but I have pretty violent vomiting 2-3 times per week. It is violent enough that I get petechia around my eyes. I have not gained, but I am not making progress either. I spoke with the surgeon's office and they said to have only liquids until next Thursday when they can see me. I have done two days of liquids. I have pains in my lower stomach and intestinal area and a LOT of gas. Maybe the liquids? I wonder if I am over restricted and need an unfill. Any insight?

Getting Back In The Gym... :)

I do a lot of free weights and core exercises with my trainer. I also try to do 1 class a week whether it be yoga, trx, strength etc. and then on Sundays I spend most of my time on the treadmill and elliptical. I am trying to get up the courage to do the spin class.

    Is my FEAR founded?

Eating more will probably increase your weight loss.

    Failing and depressed.

Paron me while I whine. I'm at my 1 year anniversary since starting my supervised pre-op diet, and have dropped around 70lbs total (30 pre-surgery/40 post-surgery). However, I haven't lost anything since the first of the year, and have actually put on 8lbs since then. It's entirely my fault too. After the holidays I got into a bit of a funk, and between that and the horrible weather, didn't get enough excersize in, and began eating badly. I'm still in the funk, and can't seem to get myself out of this cycle. Next week I have a doctors appointment, and get to explain why i've put on weight. I feel like I went through a lot to get this surgery, and did so well for the first 4 months, but since then have completely lost the will, and motivation to continue with it. The worst part is that I KNOW what needs to be done, and have the tools to do it. Unfortunately, I also know that it's so much easier to just eat a pint of Ben & Jerry's and sleep for 14 hours. Bleh.

    Drinking alcohol ?

My doc didn't ban alcohol...he just said stay away from the carbonated beverages like beer and champagne because it can stretch the pouch, gas, bloating, etc. and count those liquid calories because too many of them and you will be starving and not losing weight. I'm not much of a drinker either, but I do like to bust out a Daily's frozen pomegranate margarita pouch during the summer sometimes. :-)

How Much Fluid In Each Fill?!?

That's awesome news!!! I think .05 would be just enough for me because I feel a little restriction but I can still eat breads and pasta and rice when I'm chewing properly and I can get more than a cup but I still get things stuck sometimes like meat. I have been at a stand still on the scale for 3 long months I've been 188-184 I can't get off of it and I'm about to go crazy!!! 3 months is too long for no weight loss! Ugh! But this gives me hope!!! Thank you!!!!!
  25. So ladies....have you noticed that when your tom comes you are able to eat more? I have been sleeved for 8 months now and every time it comes I am able to eat more, and find myself craving junk food more. I really have a hard time saying no to the little voice in my head that say's come on lets eat some junk. Right after I am done with it I lose a ton of weight, and it doesnt come back....so that is good, but I am just wondering if it is all in my head, or are there other women out there like me?
