  1. @@Queen P It very well could be. Thank goodness you have those weeks off! Hope you feel better soon
  2. In short, I had my surgery on 11/3. I Was in the hospital for two days, I haven't had any issues really. I have great restriction and no hunger still so I Track all my food to make sure I get all the protein and fluids I need in a day. I still only eat about 800 calories a day max. My carbs are low because of all the protein I may get 12 carbs a day. It's a work in progress. My surgeon would like me to eat 1100-1200 calories and more carbs but I do what I can. I've lost almost 40 lbs now and I feel great. I am also diligent about taking all my vitamins. It's been a smooth (learning) process so far. I went into this knowing that it was going to be quit a change so I try to stay stress free, I took measurements before surgery with my weight, I only weigh once every couple weeks. I try to stay off the scale. I know I'm not "cheating" I eat clean so I just allow my body to do its thing. It took me years to get as big as I was so I figure it's going to take some time to get it off. I've enjoyed the change! I'm still amazed at the fact that I'm not hungry all the time anymore. I love that my life is no longer focused around food constantly. It's been lovely.

What are you eating post op?

I am 5.5 weeks post op (every day matters!). I am back to work and can eat a little bit of anything although raw veggies like baby carrots is not good. I am still relying on a protein drink of some sort to get in easy protein but yogurt, eggs, and chicken are my mains. For breakfast I had 1 egg and half a piece of toast. Lunch and snack will be yogurt. I have had no slime incidents, but, came close with the carrots!!

    Frustrated

you can do it!!! I ended up throwing most of my kids candy out!! I am two weeks post banded and had the pleasure of doing my liquid diet while on vacation with my kids, very very difficult, but we keep our mind on the finish line and power through....staying busy helps! good luck!

    July/Aug 2010 Banders!?

Well when I hit a stand still its for a few weeks and I start picking up my workout routine, than I have to turn back to the band rules...protein first, chew, chew chew, eat small bites and drink LOTS of water...once I do that for a week or so the scale normally moves again...my weight loss stands still for a few weeks than I may lose 2-3lbs and start the whole cycle again...its really starting to slow down now though ...so I have to work harder and it feels like as time goes on I sway away from the band rules more and more so I have to re focus....your doing a great job....glad you have such a great practice..Im debating on if I should get another fill or not, I have an appt next week. part of me thinks I could use just a little more but than Im scared of being too tight and miserable! its harder than I thought to find just that right spot..I have a feeling I may have to get overfilled in order to really know where I need to be! Good luck!
  6. I know I have read and even posted about the stalls...but I am becoming depressed. I lost 20ish pounds and even endured a 2nd week stall but I am going up on the scale these last few weeks. I am struggling with eating soft foods so I backed up and went back to runny, liquid and/or mushy foods. Doing better eating but still very depressed when looking at the weight itself. I walk several miles a day and eat my Protein...I also drink my Water. I am not eating any sugary foods, no sweets (can't with the sugar dump I get right away) and hardly any carbs. Last weds I weighed 179, this week I weigh 182 :-( I just want all these issues I am having to seem worthwhile. Eating difficulties, pain, small portions etc. TIA everyone...for letting me vent. J
  7. It's been nearly 9 weeks since my surgery and a couple weeks since my first fill. The surgery went really smooth, BUT...I have been having left side pain in my belly since about a week after surgery. It is not in my port area, but between my belly button and rib cage on the left. It seems to happen when I stand up after sitting for a while. It's like a crampy feeling, but sharper. My doc says it's probably muscle pain, but I wanted to see if anyone had a second opinion....Please help...
  8. It is not just you. I've been a hot mess for weeks now; I thought it was just me :-\
  9. Gentyl thanks for your response. The center just called and I have a nurse phone appointment next week to go over all my information. They said if everything went smoothly it would be about 4 months as I am going through my insurance. At least I know a time frame for the next thing on the docket! Your surgery isn't far off... you must be excited! bambam

    Emotions....

Hello everyone. My name is Tabitha and I am 27 years of age. I will be banded on August 24th. I am feeling so many emotions as the days go by. I feel excitement, worry, tears, and joy. Today my emotions took a turn for the worse. My husband told me to call my insurance company to make sure everything is going to be paid for by my insurance. When I called the man said the most out of pocket cost I would have is 1,000. I told my husband and he said that he could not help me pay for that 1,000 since we are in a financial strain as it is. My husband works and I only have 2 weeks left of unemployment. Though its not much what I get I am grateful for it. Well as soon as my husband told me this I started to cry. I truly felt all alone in my own situation. I texted my good friend kde who has been banded for only a week. She advised me to call my patient care rep Angela, which I did. I was all tears. Angela put me in a conference call with the billing department. They said all I would pay is a deductible of 300 dollars. Without me mentioning it Angela said I could come in the office tomorrow and fill out some paper work to have the deductible paid by them since I am having financial hardship. I felt so blessed and relieved. I was literary not going to pursue the surgery if I had an out of pocket cost of 1,000. So tomorrow I fill out that paper work. I am really happy with my life right now. I think this surgery is just icing on the cake. I am a newly wed with a wonderful husband. In 2 years we plan to try to start a family. This surgery will surely make that possible. I guess I want to say no matter the emotions you just have to push them to the side and persevere. God is good and he will never let you down.
  11. Hello, I am new to the forum, but I have had my band for almost 9 months now. I think I have pretty good restriction overall, I had my last fill in early May. For the last week I have been starving and eating more than I usually do. Normally I get full on small amounts of food. I am trying to figure out is my restriction slowly going away or is because of hormonal changes such as my monthly cycle due. I am currently pretty tight in the mornings, I usually gurgle mornings, but this morning I was able to eat food, like a couple slices of bacon and 1 egg and small portions of grits, I was starving...normally I don't do Breakfast...and yesterday I was able to eat about 2 pieces of baked chicken and a small portion of sweet potatoes and creamed spinach for dinner....by the way I don't PB, I do get the stuck feeling sometimes if I eat too quick, so I am wondering if I am due for another tweak in my current fill....any thoughts , I have never been overfilled and I want to avoid it, if possible...

    pain around the band

I've been getting alot of pain around my band after I swallow, when fluids or any food reach the band it really hurts as it goes through, has anyone else experienced this? I healed great and have been passing food the 6 weeks with no problems. I've been banded only three months I have had no fill yet. Two thoughts on what is causing this. 1) I ate a piece of really dry chicken I sipped hot Water to get it to pass but it hurt as it went through. This was 6 days ago, would that still hurt? 2) at the same time I came down with an alergy or slight sinus infection. Could the infection cause pressure around the band? I going to call my DR tomorrow and see if I can speak to him. Any suggestions?
  13. I am one week away from surgery and looking for a buddy in my area! Send me a message if you want to talk or meet up. I don't necessarily need a vet. bander. Just someone who knows what I am going through. Thanks!
  14. i have noticed my cycle is all over the place since surgery. It is starting to settle down but i was almost two weeks late in my second month.

Happy banding ann. Day to me!

Today it has been one month. It has been an eventful month. The last week has been a challenge, I eat what I want. - i hurt sometimes when I eat. I don't eat anywhere close to the foods or the amount of food I use to - I just haven't lost anymore weight. The other thing is I am not getting full. - Hint from reading blogs I think I need a fill. I go back to the dr. in 2 weeks, it isn't going to come soon enough. Some days are hard, everyone knows I have had this surgery and they are expecting the pounds to just pile off I guess. I have increased my physial activity - so maybe we will get it all figured out - one month out - i feel good- just wanting to see some results for putting myself through this and my family. I am still excited, and will continue down this path until my goals have been conquered.
  16. Hi Nikki Sorry I didn't see this until today. I had the band for almost 10 years and after about 7 years, I started having lots of complications. I always had difficulty with fills and unfills because my port flipped almost immediately after surgery. I did fairly well with the band and lost about 100 pounds. However, I regained almost all of that weight after 2 children, 5 months of bed rest and an injury from running. I started looking into revision mid-2010 and was given the choice of RNY (which I found out I couldn't have due to my severe anemia) or sleeve. I wasn't happy with either of those choices so after about 6 months of research I found out about the plication. I was going to go to Mexico but ended up finding a doctor here in Southern California who had just started doing plication. I was his very first banded plication patient, which was scary but somebody's gotta be first!! Anyway - I've lost a bit over 42 pounds in 15 weeks. I'd like to lose about another 50-60 pounds. I started at 283 and am now at 240.5. I am actually surprised that I've lost as much weight as I have considering I'm a revision patient. I track my food but not religiously. I ensure that I eat 50-70 grams of Protein and drink about 60-80 oz. of Water. I do exercise almost everyday and walk/jog about 2-3 miles per workout. I completed my first 5K a few weeks ago and am planning on wogging (walk/jogging) a 10K July 23. I have averaged about 10 pounds per month and have lost 42% of my EWL (excess weight loss). I've gone from a 22/24 (26 top) to loose 20s and almost fitting into 18s! My goal is to be around 170-180ish which for me is a size 12/14. I don't want to be much smaller than that as I prefer that size on me and so does my husband! PS-I have not had any fills in my band and I plan on leaving it completely empty.
  17. Give it time. I wasn't feeling full then I made the mistake of eating solids 6 days out and I can't believe I did that. Because now I'm two weeks out and just eating mashed Beans at 2oz a sitting is hard. Sent from my SM-G530T using the BariatricPal App I think maybe ur body and mind needs time to adjust Sent from my SM-G530T using the BariatricPal App Nvm. 18. I was required to provide three years worth of weight history for approval from my insurance. I said to the surgeon when I met with him that my biggest concern is that I will be rejected because I have been such a yo yo dieter and depending on the time I weighed in at the doctors my weight could be over 40 BMI or under 40 BMI. I just received my history from my doctors and three years ago I was at a BMI of 37 and two years ago at 39-- under the required 40 BMI that I am at now. I have no co-morbidities. Just a question- have any of you had this be your situation and how did it work with insurance? The surgeon said that he may need to fight with the insurance company, but that what he is looking for in a surgery candidate is someone who has been overweight for an extended period of time and not someone who just happened to gain weight after having a baby etc. Unfortunately, I don't know if insurance will care. Thoughts?

    Made to Crave (book)

Woot woot! Finally something I can post about! (I've been lurking for weeks and am waiting for a call back for my first appointment!) I purchased the book and the daily devotions. It's taken me months, but I've read most of it. It's eye opening, and makes me cry almost every time I read it. (Which is why it's taken me so long. Self reflection sucks most times.) I'd recommend it to anyone who is battling food issues and needs to know they are worthy of God's love, and to love yourself!

    Weight gain

First of all, you lost 59 pounds in 2 months? That is insane, I have never heard of anyone losing that quickly. You do realize there is no way you can keep losing at that rate, especially since you weren't super heavy when you started. Lots of things can make your weight fluctuate: hormones being number one. Do you still have a cycle? Is it now or coming soon? Also, things like sodium intake, etc. Everyone experiences fluctuations and stalls along this journey. It is normal to go weeks without losing even if you ARE doing everything by the book. Some men will reach their goal in 6 months, women usually take 9 months to a year, with those having less to lose losing more slowly. But wow, you have lost a pound a day and you are complaining? I wish I had your problems
  21. OMGOMGOMGOMG - it's a day and a half away!! I'm getting banded on Thursday (March 20th) @ 8:00 am in Austin. TX by Dr. Faulkenberry! I can't wait, but I'm a little freaked out so it's this bizarre obsessive compulsive mixure of excitement, fear, and happiness. Did/does anyone else feel like this? In a day and half I feel like my WHOLE life is going to change. The only way I can describe the journey is like getting on the rollar coaster, buckling in, and the cart has begun to move. At this point in time, there's no getting off the ride, I just have to suck it up and enjoy it. I can't wait to shed pounds and keep them off! A coworker of mine had the surgery in November and is down about 40 pounds! Since beginning the preop diet Wed, March 5th, I've lost about 7 pounds (and gained 3). Did anyone cheat on their post op? I had done really good and lost 7 pounds - and then broke down and fell off the proverbial wagon and gained 3 pounds back (grrr). I hope to loose those 3 pounds again before surgery. I'm kind of nervous about the post ops 2.5 weeks of liquids (wish me luck). OK I'm done ranting and raving *grin* :biggrin2: thanks for listening to my neverending babble. TTFN -
  22. Anybody banded locally? I have another week for mines. Sent while fleeing from naughty food.

    Bleah again

Morning weight is 181.7. Still feel that golf ball in my throat and am going to just sip water or crystal light today and not try and get hot cocoa down like yesterday. If I am still this tight on Monday I will schedule to have some taken out. I am frustrated because it seems that it's such a crapshoot with fills. If I am overfilled, I have to realize it within 72 hours or I pay another freaking 250 bucks, when it takes about a week for my body (and for many) for the swelling to go down and see where you are really at. I have had this level of fill before and it wasn't enough. I wish there was a week or 2 week window for adjustments. I really cannot know for sure until a good week after the fill and it's frustrating as heck to be .2cc's too much or too little and then I get to spend another buttload of money. Today I am feeling annoyed with myself for going so off the wagon last month, but I really was in a rut and I was living on milk duds. I remember being told that as long as I can get saliva down, I am okay, but it seems like right now that's all I can get down. I have kept a few sips of water down this morning, I am always tight in the mornings but yesterday I stayed super tight all day. I need to not think about it too much or the stress will make me even tighter. Bleah again.

Getting my band back together :)

Just a quick update. I had surgery to replace my band on Friday, 12/21 (supposed Doomsday.... ). Everything went well. I stayed at the hospital overnight and was released early Saturday. So far, recovery seems easier than the first time around. Some pain, but not the bad shoulder pain that I had the first time around. Perhaps part of it was that I knew what to expect. The hardest part is returning to "banders hell" over Christmas with all of the great foods around. liquids only this week and then onto mushys. The good news is that I have already lost 10 lbs of the almost 20 that I gained while unbanded. Truth be told, I wasn't overly tempted anyway. One thing that I learned while without my band is that I have adjusted mentally to this lifestyle.... I kept portion sizes small and, with a few exceptions, ate food that was good for me. Thanks again to all that wished me well.
