Tall Women, Tell Me Your Story!

I'm 5'9.5". My start weight was 278 in June 2015, my goal was 175lbs. Now I'm sitting at 169lbs. I'm pretty happy with where I'm at (size 10 on the bottom, medium on top), but I have revised my goal to 165lbs because I fear the "bounce" of regain! This is the lowest weight I've been since my teens and I couldn't be happier. I'm still at the upper end of my BMI, but happy to be "normal"

    Any FEBRUARY sleevers?!

I'm Feb 16th too, band to sleeve revision, in New Orleans.
  3. I have been researching the sleeve surgery for over a year. I had made my decision to have the sleeve and then I started reading "deeper" research into the sleeve. The one thing that concerns me is that some in the medical community are stating there is not enough long term data on the sleeve and for what they do have, there are a large number that require a revision to a gastric bypass. Has anyone else heard or read this? I'm just afraid of having 85% of my stomach taken out and then years later requiring the gastric bypass which is what I don't want. Then, if there are complications after that, then what? I read where one woman had to have her entire stomach removed. Granted I'm sure that doesn't happen very often, but still...hmmmm. I just don't know. I thought I was all set, but now I guess I have more thinking to do. Just looking for thoughts from others. Thanks!

    October List of Surgery's

It's not as fast as I thought it would be, but being a revision patient I was told it would be slower. Plus I really can't complain about 40lbs in 12 weeks!
  5. I had revision from sleeve to RNY in Oct. my GERD is still here. My surgeon said with the more weight I lose it will hopefully go away. There is no guarentee. I have had no complications and I was scared! I am happy my decision.

    Fustrated!

I'm having a really hard time getting approved for my revision - I've had the lap band since 2008 and I've lost at most 60 lbs, I would get sick often, and haven't been able to afford a fill adjustment in awhile because I did not have insurance. Now that I have it - I find out about the sleeve and I really want to switch to it as I've weighed the pros and cons - but my insurance won't approve the revision unless I can prove medically necessary. I have some port pain, but I have a very high tolerance for pain, so I can ignore it most times... When I finally went for my band adjustment last July - they showed that the band had slipped a bit and that my pouch was enlarged. They unfilled it a bit and that is when I started doing research and found out about the sleeve. So many people were talking about all the issues they had with the band and not being able to be comfortable about going out to eat because you have to case the place basically to make sure you know where the restroom is and how quickly you can get to it, how some days I could eat a lil bit but then the next day its Soups or nothing kinda day... I thought - hey I could do the sleeve and I wouldn't have to worry about stuck food anymore and I would still have a restriction that would keep me from overdoing it - I was very careful about not overdoing it. I've done all the requirements for it and have met them all - I keep reading about all of you that have had the revision done and I'm starting to get really fustrated and upset because it seems like I'm trying to do this before I get really sick with any of the overweight caused diseases - I am right now at around 270 - because I gained back 20lbs ( i admit - I regained because I was suddenly able to eat all the things I hadn't been able to eat in the past 8 years, like bread, brocoli(sp), vegetables, steak, actual pizza, pasta - I do not eat junk like candy or processed bakery stuff and am a rather 'healthy' eater - I just over do it because I never feel full) after I got my band unfilled in preparation for surgery, atm I still do not have real health issues other then my joints are getting older and having a harder time at the gym because of the weight gain - I still go to the gym at least 1 - 2 times a week and work on the treadmill. Last week I went back to my surgeon and his assistant has put me on a liquid diet to help me lose some of the weight I gained back, and because my EDG and swallow study came back normal - they weren't able to prove that its medically necessary to remove the band - so we're trying for intolerance since I was getting sick before when it was filled. So, we agreed to get my band filled again with 2 ccs - I went for the appointment that was set up with the hospial and when I got there the lady that was supposed to do my fill was almost like she didn't want to do it because she was confused as to why I was there - she said I was telling her the wrong things - that because I told her I don't want to gain anymore weight and that I want to prove to the insurance that the band wasn't working for me, so I have to get it refilled and go back through everything I was going through before. She almost didn't fill it and as it is - I don't believe she put the whole 2ccs in either. I'm waiting until this week is done on the liquid diet, I still have port pain and it hurts sometimes like a bad stitch and sharp pain - but apparently that's not enough I'm not giving up - but I can't afford this as a self pay, my credit is really horrible, so I am unable to get approved for a loan to pay for the removal of the band. Please excuse any incorrect grammer and the fact that I skip from topic to topic - I'm not sure what its called but I type and talk in random sometimes jumping from topic to topic as my mind grabs a thought. I try to go back and edit, but if I missed something... I've done 7 nutrition visits now, provided my gym check ins, did all the requirements for a normal just getting the sleeve done as well as doing the requirements for getting a revision done - I just want to get this done, so I can get started... I don't understand how some people are getting approved for revisions or getting the sleeve done when they have so much less to lose then I do, and I'm having such difficulty - what am I doing wrong?! even my surgeon's assistant is at a loss, but she is trying to help me and hopefully we can prove intolerance... I feel almost as if I'm being pushed into self paying for it - which I can't afford to do...

    New to this group

My per op is Jan 29 surgery Feb 11 , my doctor didn't say anything about a liquid diet. I'm having a revision from my first surgery in 1993 I have band erosion and it's bad . So they the only option for me is bypass.

    My own experience

@@2016NewMe I was a revision from a Lapband. I had the Surgery last March. I have felt great and been very happy living with this. I have lost at a very slow rate, but am thrilled to be out of plus sizes and feeling and looking so good.
  9. I had my band removed in late October, at which I weighed in at 294. My surgeon requires that I re-start the approval process for the revision to sleeve, he also requires 6 months between surgeries to make sure the stomach heals and a 10% weight loss prior to surgery. I go in for my first psych consult and dietician appointment on Monday and I have gained 10 lbs since my surgery. I am not making any excuses. I know why. I am struggling to hear my body's "full" cue as it was so used to the band and feeling severe discomfort. I also think I'm struggling with "last supper" syndrome knowing that I went years with things I couldn't eat/caused pain, days of not being able to eat, etc. And ultimately, fear of the same thing happening again...that I when I am eating I get stuck in "EAT IT ALL". Again, not making excuses, I know why I have gained weight. I am seeing a therapist regularly already to work through all these, and other issues. I am stressing MAJORLY about the weight gain and worrying how the office/surgeon/psychologist will react. Has anyone had this experience and how did your programs respond?

West burbs here too. I was originally banded in Nebraska 5 years ago and when I moved to the cities 2 years ago sought out the Unity Bariatric program and have been a patient of Dr. Baker. I had my band removed in October of 2015 and looking to do a revision to the sleeve. I have tons of respect for Dr. Baker and the entire team. Did any of you struggle to lose the pre-op weight? I know Dr. Baker wants to see me lose 10% prior to surgery and after having the band removed I'm struggling to maintain my weight, let alone lose. I no longer know my own satiety signals after having the band so long. I don't have a date yet as Dr. Baker requires 6 months between removal and new surgery to ensure my stomach has healed properly, and requires revisions to go through entire pre-op approval process (which I think is a good thing). I'm stressing over my next appointment because I have gained 7 pounds in the last 2 months since my surgery.

    Lap band - heartburn

I experienced bad acid reflux when my band was fill and unfilled.I had revision to bypass. No reflux ,no sliming,no vomiting up.
  12. Nobody should be judging anyone here. What works for one person may not work for another. I personally would rather use medical marijuana than a prescription drug any day. I've been using it for a while, and more so after my revision and couldn't put weight on even with tpn. After my reversal not too long ago, I was diagnosed with gastroparesis and I still use it. It helps me more than a few other meds they prescribed without all the side effects. The comments about people smoking in their teens and having a large appetite makes me laugh. We are not teens anymore, things will effect us differently and as I mentioned before, you need to find the strain that works for you. I find that indica works best for me. I get a relaxing body high, and not a cloudy head high with the hunger. It helps my stomach relax for the gastroparesis, and helps with some of the chronic pain. You can also use the oil/tincture without the high, but great results. They use this a lot for children, and it's amazing. Please do your research! It can work wonders for so many. I feel fortunate to live in CA where it's not a big deal. I walk in the pharmacy/dispensary and it's like walking in cvs to get a prescription. No big thing:)
  13. Hello my name is jeanell and back in March of 2005 I had RNY surgery in Denver, CO. My doctor was Michael A. Snyder. I lost a total of 110lbs but gradually started gaining 5yrs post op. I started noticing that food was causing digestive issues no matter if it was healthy or not and I was getting no Satiety with food. The symptoms got worse and exercise and diet was not stopping my weight gain. I finally decided to go back to my surgeon 10yrs pot-op and after gaining 60lbs. I found out that I definitely had issues with my stoma being enlarged and that a revision would be necessary. It has been 5 days since my revision surgery and I hope and pray I get back on track. I will definitely make sure that I follow all the rules of the tool and pay attention to my body. I actually had a hernia that required repairing during the revision surgery. My plan is to get as much support as I can because this procedure and journey is very exhausting mentally, emotionally and physically. I am excited that they have apps and forums like this to assist with this journey. I look forward to discussing my journey. Regards, Jeanell
  14. Hello everyone! I am having a lapband to sleeve revision this upcoming Monday 1/25. I have two children ages 2.5 and 1 years old. The one year old does not currently walk. My mom will have them at her house for a week after the surgery. (7 days) After that she is unavailable to help. My question is for people specifically with little kids/babies. How long after sugery could you start to do things? I am very nervous and anxious as to what will happen. Thanks
  15. Make sure dad goes to the most experienced surgeon. He needs to talk to his dr.Do the research and get it done.I had revision to bypass and I am so happy.

    Wouldn't it be nice

I know I didn't say anything wrong but to be told I don't have a right to post here because it wasn't supportive to weight loss (duh, in one of the singles type forums) is just a bit much. Don't you ever get tired of it? I don't mean tired of answering the same questions repeatedly. .. I mean tired of the general level of "get offended as the first option"? It happen on the gofundme thread - person asked question, many replied it wasn't likely to work, suggested other options. OP found other options and the thread helped her look into those - yeah! She has a realistic way to afford surgery! Then the thread degenerates into totally different people being all upset that we dared to tell her the freaking honest truth. Most of the time I just stop reading the ridiculous, but don't you ever get tired of people taking offense where none was intended and the dang thing wasn't even about them anyway? That is just one example, but it happens over and over. Like, what is wrong with people that they look for insult that just isn't there? So, I am recovering from breast revision, mole removal and cheek. Injection but decided to do a teeny bit more whilst I was under that turned into alot more than planned (for very valid reason but related to thighs). It's been a tough week. I am fine, doc thinks I will have good results but sometimes things don't go as planned and I am here 2x as long as planned, on bedrest and my passport got lost during the bad day... guess how long it takes to get an appointment for a replacement? Do you suppose being on bed rest is a reason you are exempt from printing out forms from the internet (damn forgot to pack a printer), getting passport photos taken etc? Awesome, my new passport photo will have visible stitches where I had moles removed and small bruises from the fat injection. Good news my new full cheeks look youthful! I have a photo copy of my passport and other ID to corroborate but they can't just print up the one from before.... So, BP has been a good distraction and a place to write out my thoughts and I appreciate my friends here ALOT. I appreciate the excited newbies thrilled with their future possibilities. I appreciate the different points of view and ideas. I like the fun banter about life, the support, the real life tribulations . Not thrilled with the anger and I frankly don't even understand it. So that is a bit more context of why I wish there was a place to talk about real life stuff without all that negative people who don't even know me from the last 5 years I have been posting here.. And in the meantime Breakfast is 20 minutes late and I am hungry! Surgery recovery makes me starve even though I am laying in bed all day. I am pals with the chef and he takes good care of me. Back to my original point, I sure like the people here in Monterrey! !
  17. Ouch! I'm not sure what I'd do if I were I were in your shoes. I have thought about it quite a bit. Not sure if I'd get another Lap-Band if I had issues with it or revise to another procedure. What is your surgeon suggesting?I meet with him Wednesday... We will see... If he does not agree with revision I will find someone who will... Glad your doing so well.. I was told "you have a failed surgery in you" by my thyroid Dr...
  18. I wasn't s revision, but I was sleeved 20 month ago. I did not suffer from Acid reflux pre surgery but have had a serious case of it post. I take protonix in the morning, dexilant at night before dinner and a Zantac before bed. If I skip a pill or eat the wrong foods I've been known to wake up gagging on stomach acid. It's pretty miserable. If I had a gerd problem pre surgery I would definitely have considered bypass. Oh, I had a hiatal hernia repaired at the time of my sleeve so that's not the cause of my problems. Good luck!

    update on my breast fixing

@@liannatx 25"a it's fixed, initial results are promising but revisions are always less certain in terms of out one. There is more to the whole story, but I happy to be "even" again.
  21. It has slipped and I have a leak and my port has flipped.. I want a revision to the sleeve...
  22. 2goldengirl Have you heard of insurance covering a revision from lap band to sleeve due to too many issues even with bmi being 32 not 35
  23. I am not certain, maybe it depends on the surgeon? I had the incisions from Lapband surgery and when I had it removed they used the same incisions sites... when I had it revised to sleeve he used the same incisions areas again plus one tiny new one. These would be good questions to ask your surgeon.
  24. Has anyone else gone this route and did you have to fight the insurance company? I had one insurance when I had the sleeve and now I have a different one. Has anyone else revised from sleeve to bypass and been successful?
