Protein Shakes...
Parker's Dad replied to sid_n_reagans_mommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have tried several. Muscle milk, muscle milk lite, oh yeah, body fortress (wal mart), and a couple others I can't think of right off. I really like the Body Fortress stuff. I have no issues with it at all. I mix with milk though, not so hot with plain Water unless you mix strong. I have the chocolate and vanilla. Love the chocolate, awesome with some Peanut Butter. I am not even a big vanilla fan but I like this. I mix it with Dannon greek yogurt and it's great. I even throw in some peanuts or cashews to add some Fiber and even extra Protein and it gives it some texture. It's not that expensive and may be worth a try if you have not tried it yet. -
I have been told I am allowed full liquids with no bits in. So that's anything that would tip out of a glass or bowl, nothing like yogurt or custard. I am in the Uk so don't have access to all the protein supplants that you do in the US. I am trying something called Complan if you have heard of that, it is meant to be nourishing and used after periods of illness that's going down ok

I was sleeved on Aug 21st after having the lap band removed. Had my first post op appt today and I'm down exactly 15lbs. It's great motivation to get me through the next week of all liquid diet. I'm excited about soon adding yogurt to the mix. Crossed fingers its tolerated well.

I'm in the same boat. Not sure exactly what you guys are approved for, but I'm allowed greek yogurt and unsweetened applesauce. That helped a little bit today. I also got a cookbook of smoothies so that I can mix it up a little bit. Looking forward to what others say.... Let's hang in there!

I'm in the same boat and so glad I found this thread! Had my surgery 12/2013 at 229 and went down to 130. 4.5 years post-op and I'd kept my weight down until last year. For some reason, last year my sugar levels got out of whack (now I know it was because of carbs!) so all the starch I was eating made me hungry every hour. Over the last year I gained back 20 lbs and I'm so discouraged. I finally admitted defeat and visited my surgeon 2 weeks ago. He gave me the original post-op food plan and now I'm hoping to get back on track. I use the myfitnesspal app to track my foods and I'm staying away from starch big time. I've lost 2 lbs since then but it's going so much slower than the first time around. It's so frustrating to get on the scale and not see progress!!! I can't figure out how to eliminate sugar completely since everything I eat has some in it (yogurt, even fruit!). He told me to eat high-fiber foods but Fiber One cereal is a starch and spinach leaves isn't helping any so now I'm totally confused. I'll keep checking this thread because I can use the encouragement as well.

Awesome! You seem to be doing well! I'm still on the full liquid so I've only be eating cottage cheese, different low fat/low sodium Soups (no potato allowed, my fav????), and yogurt. It's going down well I haven't gotten sick once since surgery, just some discomfort when I swallow anything, I need to ask my doctor about that on my 2 week post op on Wednesday. That's when I'm hoping to get advanced to the soft foods stage! I have yet to really use the bathroom but once and it was uncomfortable to say the least. I also have a hard time consuming all the Water requirements, & sometime I can't get all my Protein in either!???? Since moving from clear liquid to full liquid i have yet to loose another pound, & some days I've gained one or two! Another thing to ask my doctor on Wednesday! Other than that it's been an easier recovery that I expected!!

Food Question
iwannabslim replied to latinmami0511's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For the yogurt, I purchased plain greek yogurt. That has only 9 g sugar compared to the kind with fruit. I was actually told to avoid the kind with fruit in it because of the skins, seeds, and fruit chunks. I put a couple of splenda packets in the plain along with a splash of some flavor extract (I've been using almond extract and cherry flavored extract). -
Back On Antibiotics - Bleck!
medicmommy replied to LosingItForMe2011's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Suggestion.... Get the yogurt with the probiotics add some reg pumpkin it helps with the loose stools. Might help a little ! -
I did not like it much. I know it is supposed to be fruity, but it still had the powdered taste to me. I really like the UNJURY protein drinks. Sometimes I put a no- or low- fat yogurt in it (like strawberry yogurt in the strawberry) and it makes it even better. Also it adds some more protein.

15 grams of carbs/500 or fewer calories a day until I lose 100 pounds?
bearman99 replied to Mel1071's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I believe what you are seeing is a changing of the philosophy from high carbs are good for you to carbs are non-essential. Yes, this means Atkins was right all along and the entire medical establishment was wrong. So you see old information mixed with new information out there. Also, the one size fits all on calories and Protein is just plain wrong. If one person has 200lb lean body mass and another female has 120lb lean body mass why is the protein intake the same recommendation in order to preserve lean body mass? This is highly flawed. If you eat 3(-4oz @2+ months) protein first there will likely not be much room for anything else. Carbohydrates are not necessary for the human body. Water, protein, micronutrients and fat are daily requirements. The latest and greatest best studies pretty much backup for best fat loss (not just weight loss) low carb is the optimal way to lose the fat. It is funny to me to watch the transition in the minds of the medical community - people sure do resist change even in the face of very compelling evidence. All of us has to find what works best for all of us individually. Ideally you get your body fat measured and use that as your guide to weight loss. Losing lean body mass, organs, bones is NOT healthy. Nutritionists are just parrots. They seldom are able to do research and really think for themselves. Whatever the latest medical dogma is will be what they tell you. Therefore, do your own research and do your own experiment on yourself carefully. It is your life, your health. I started a new thread to see what other members doc's are recommending just b/c there are soooooo many variances from doctor to doctor. I had to dig out my pre op nutrition class materials but I posted what my surgeon post op recommendations are and they are sooooo drastically different than yours. It's like... how can that be? I mean.. shouldn't this be kind of standard. I am so confused! I am becoming a bit disenchanted with my WLS clinic. I'm losing at a decent rate (down 35 pounds since surgery 7 weeks ago). What I am not happy about is my clinic's mandate that I follow a diet that has me eating no more than 15g of carbs a day, less than 500 calories a day. Plus, this diet should be in place until I lose 75% of my excess weight loss (which, for me, is 100 pounds - or 65 now) I met with the dietician yesterday and came out of the meeting very frustrated. She didn't like the fact that I ate a yogurt that has 80 calories, 0g fat, and 12g of protein - why? It has 8 carbs. "You shouldn't be eating more than 5 carbs per meal" was her reply. Mind you, when I eat that yogurt I'm not going over 15 for the day - but no, it's not good because it's more than 5 carbs for the meal. And it's because I'm going over 5 carbs a meal that my weight loss isn't as fast as other people's. I also mentioned that I'm a little tired of depending on Miralax on a weekly/biweekly basis and that I was concerned my constipation is being caused by a lack of fiber. She said no, it's not a lack of fiber and that I just need to up my water intake. Um, I'm already getting between 64-80 a day! And to say fiber isn't an issue is utter BS in my opinion. It's not just the NUT who says this - it's in the clinic's aftercare manual. I am really tempted to find some other doctor/clinic's aftercare suggestions and follow those for a bit and see what happens. -
JUST GOT MY SURGERY DATE 1/30/18 looking for surgery buddies
BG24 replied to Cowgirl12's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm doing 3 protein shakes a day and a choice of 4 of the following Triple zero oikos yogurt, low sodium broth, sugar free jello, sugar free ice pops. There's some other things liek cream of wheat and 1% milk. I'm starving. Im lucky I only have to do 1 week. Some people have to do 2 to 3 weeks. I guess this is there version of low carb. -
my dietician didn't put me on a diet yet. She set goals for me like walking a mile every other day and to stop drinking caffeinated tea (I don't drink coffee or energy drinks) and to start working on yogurt or cottage cheese for breakfast. Basically she takes things slow and wants to work on habits. Every dietician is different though

Yogurt and heartburn ??
Enchanted replied to kitty1989's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are some foods that I just don't eat anymore. Yogurt isn't one of them for me, but maybe it's one that you won't be able to eat - at least for now. -
Yogurt and heartburn ??
Band_Groupie replied to kitty1989's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I started having problems with heartburn/reflux this week and did some research I was surprised that yogurt or any cultured/femented food is very high in acid (take a peek at my blog here on LBT-link in sig; from a few days ago for what I'm doing about it). I'd been eating a lot of Greek yogurt, but I'm putting that to a halt until this heals. Reflux with the band is the most common side effect (I've never had it before) and unless you get treatment it can result in some very serious issues. Just Google 'foods that are high in acid' and you'll find lots of lists...some of them really surprised me. -
Hi, I was banded on the 2nd October 2009, so im currently 3 weeks post op. Ever since i have had the band if i eat yogurt i get a feeling of heartburn/Indigestion. (this i never experience before i was banded). Does anyone else have this issue with yogurt? Is it a common problem that lots of people have ?

What did you buy for liquid n soft food ?
Bari_KS replied to avm1014's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Liquids: Protein2O, Poweraide zero, Fatorade zero, Crystal light, Fairlife milk, sf jello, Tropical popsicles, cream of mushroom soup strained with added milk. Pureed: baby food, Greek yogurt Oikos triple zero, Fage 0%, refried beans, Progresso lentil and split soups, PB Fit powder and dried milk powder to make smoothies with protein powder. Soft: mashed cauliflower, avocado, banana. Canned tuna, salmon, chicken to mix with light mayo, egg salad, sweet potatoes. Cooked a lot of chicken and turkey breast cutlets in crockpot and froze it to eat later. -
I haven't had surgery yet, but just from past diets, when I have cravings I just try to make a healthy version of that food. A few examples Tater Tots- Baked Cauliflower Tots (A lot of the recipes have bread crumbs and cheese- I just use egg whites to bind and and garlic and herbs to season) Cheesecake- Greek Yogurt cheese Cake with an Almond or Hazelnut Crust - Basic quantity for a simple greek yogurt cheesecake is 1 cup greek yogurt to 1 egg- I usually split this in half or fourths. Bake for 40 min @ 350. For the crust just blend up some nuts and or rolled oats in a food processor. Cheeseburger - use lean meat- mushroom for bun For ice cream- use almond milk and make a "frosty" Things like that!

Constant Grazing...is It A Problem?
twoolley replied to WLTrainee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Proudgrammy pretty much hit the nail on the head. Grazing throughout the day is not a good way to utilize the sleeve. The sleeve is useful only if you're using it to restrict the amount of food you can take in during your meals and then keeps you satiated longer. If you're "tricking" the sleeve by taking in more food only over a longer period of time then you're still getting high calories you're just eating all the time. Which is what you're noticing... you're eating constantly. My surgeon has me on a normal 3 meals a day with a snack or 2 if necessary. Snacks are yogurt, cheese stick, beef Jerky, etc. Low cal high Protein things. chocolate doesn't fit in to that category. I can't find any chocolate to eat (even sugar free) that is under 50 calories per piece. Try replacing those chocolates with sugar free mints or hard candies like Werthers. Like other posters have said, we're working to change the old habits. For me that included putting food in my mouth all day whenever I wanted. Now I eat 3 times a day like normal healthy people do, and I only eat during those times if I am hungry. I know it's probably not what you wanted to hear, but our goal is to help each other be successful losers. We've gone to an extreme length to drop the weight so sometimes a little tough love is sobering. -
Were you sleeved during the first two weeks of December?
Gettingsexyback replied to Blondiee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks! I so appreciate y'all sharing your menus with me! I had 2 thin slices of ham lunch meat with cheese rolled inside for breakfast and 2 cubes of chicken for lunch and the meat off a chicken leg for supper with a bite of mashed potatoes. Snack was Greek yogurt w/fruit ... I cannot get much in at all without hurting bad and to nearly threw up after the chicken. I am going to try to do better tomorrow. I never get more than 50 oz of water in a day as hard as I can and never succeed! Lol -

Cant Stop Losing/passing Out After Overeating?
cookies replied to lolli's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
In a cruel twist of fate, my brother has always had issues keeping weight on, so I've seen all his tricks. Some suggestions: Add fat to your diet. Butter on veggies, cook in healthy olive oil, cheese in your morning eggs, etc. It doesn't take up much more volume in your tummy, but will add calories. Drink some calories. Again, not suggested for most banders, but every day my brother drinks milk, juices, and even has an occasional milkshake. Again, all in an effort to get in calories. He also does soda, but we can't do that, I don't think, with the sleeve. Add Protein powder to everything. He scoops it in oatmeal or yogurt in the morning, generally, but it can be hidden in a lot of places. There are protein powders that are specifically for people that are trying to put on weight. HIgh quality Snacks - He eats a lot of nuts or nutbutters on apples, etc. and cheese sticks for snacks. I'm not sure if you can fit those in, but it might be easier to eat more often. Passing out after eating is odd, though. Low blood sugar would mean passing out, but after eating, your sugar should be higher. I'd have that checked. -
Ginger Lim, your new life is just beginning. It will be so worth it! My last food indulgence was a large size bowl of soft frozen yogurt with hot fudge sauce. Haven't missed it since being sleeved!
