  1. I don't want to discourage, but cravings are super hard to get rid of! It's like in your stage, you want what you can't have! I was really hungry too. Here's what I did. I bought a whole chicken, an onion, carrots, celery and made some chicken broth by cooking it all together. Then I took the meat off one thigh, a small amount of the veggies and blended them really well and stirred them back into the broth. It made the broth soooo yummy! About 2 weeks post op I added a little instant potatoes until they were super runny and ate it with a fork so I only got what stayed on the tines. It saved me! PS... I added unflavored protein powder too!

    Alcohol & the Sleeve

I noticed that with 1-2 glasses of wine nursed over 2 plus hours I feel tipsy and I normally can clear 3-4 glasses of wine and feel absolutely fine! I am drinking very limited amounts but for special occasions i will have some. I feel for my partner he is a social creature and has been stuck at home with me by his choice but I know it is hard for him no to go out and socialize with our friends and it sucks to take me out right now since I am the most boring date and not on solids yet.

    Very Excited about my journey!

I have so much going on besides waiting to have my surgery in November. I don't want to wish my life away but I am a little impatient. We have a Disney trip the end of October so I guess that could be my "Last Supper" time before getting banded. I have to get thru psch evalution, dietician, and the other slu of tests. The next couple of weeks will be slammin'. Life is good...

  5. Well if I cant get the procedure done while i'm out of school whats the likely hood of having the surgery done and going back to school in 4 days? I am pretty reslient with the right ammount of drugs in me hah. jk, but c'mon for those who've had c-sections you have your baby, then 2 or 3 days later you are getting up and down all night and holding your baby walking around ect, and the c-section has to be much more painful, right? thats a doozy of an area stapled up. So yes or no, 4 days post op, walking around doing hair at cosmetology school, yay or nay?

    Recovery time?

I was not one of those people who bounced right back and went out shopping two days after surgery, although after everything I read I thought I would be able to do just that. In reality I had some pretty major pain going on. I was scheduled to take only three days off work and had to make it a full week. I work at a school and I had to do two lunch duties in a row. After an hour standing on my feet and wiping tables I would be in so much pain..It would take everything I had to walk back down the hallway to my classroom without crying. That lasted a couple of weeks. Now, everything is fine and I am thrilled with my decision to be banded. Talk with your instructors up front, ask them what will happen if you need to take time out and get off your feet. Do you have to do manicures as well? Perhaps you can do that while you are recovering.
  7. Congrats! if there is 1 peice of advice I can offer (taking with a grain of salt of course) don't get yourself worked up or obsess on fixating on a specific weight you want to be at this time. From personal experience- Your surgeon knows what's best for you and your body type- You cannot go by the charts in doctor's offices.. Take 1 day at a time and take into consideration all of the inches, healthier choices you are making, smaller clothes, NSV's (non scale victories) etc. I did not set out with a certain poundage in mind- NEVER owned a scale until after my procedure and am very happy with my results. I have surpassed my surgeon's goal for 1st year out and am continuing to loose and feel so much better about it, my other goals and where I want to be in a year, 2, 3 etc... Good luck! you wont regret it!!
  8. I had the sleeve done April 3 and lost 50lb so far. Now I'm only 3 months out and pregnant by accident. I'm scared I don't know what to do...anyone know anything?
  9. Going to do another lab this week since the test numbers were off the chart. Doctor was not concerned at all with the low BUN/Creat Ratio.

    Surgery Date finally!

That is great - good for you!!! I have my medical evaluation followup and psych eval appts next week, I am hoping to have a surgery date for the beginning of May sometime. I get more nervous/excited everytime I get one of my appts out of the way!! Keep us posted with how the Optifast goes!

    6 Month Post Op Bloodwork

My blood pressure and blood sugar was fine all week so I'm off those medications
  12. Ok, So I am 3 days post op and NOW I have all these worries. I had no questions or concerns pre-op but now I am freaking out a little!! So ..how easy is it to cause a leak in my new tummy? I sip, sip, sip all day because I don't want to get dehydrated, but I worry about causing a leak if I sip too much or eat jello or hiccup or burp too hard or cough or ANYTHING! How soft and sensitive is my tummy?

    Dairy reaction

I was strictly told to avoid caffeine for at least 6 months after surgery. I've been having a yogurt almost daily for over a week, no issues. Hope it gets better for you!
  14. It is quite confusing to not count calories when the sites like fitness pal and spark people calculate your calories then your doc says not to count. Then on top of that people on this site talk about how many calories they consume in each stage. Whew! I must say that I have done the same thing by eating too many calories while consuming Protein first and no bread. What it sounds like to me is that you are eating over a longer period of time. It is called grazing which is a habit as well. It is easy to eat more calories that way, so get back to plan and eat Breakfast, lunch, and dinner in 30 minutes. Snack only 2-3 times per day with protein and drink your Water. Make a commitment with yourself that whatever meal you eat, you will sit down and eat for 30 minutes only. Good luck!
  15. I was sleeved Sept. 17 and my total weight loss is 42, I am pleased with that, BUT looking at my MFP I have only lost 7 pound this entire month. I feel that is a little low for only my second month out- I will lose one pound and stay there a week and then lose another. Blood work looks good, I am eating 800 - 1200 calories a day. I am not getting in all of my water. Could this be it? I am going to be diligent today and this week and get my water in and see if this will help. Any thoughts? Thank you!
  16. I am beyond stressing! My surgery was approved and scheduled for 9/29. I had my medical clearance appointment this past weekend. My doctor never sent the script for a spleen ultrasound he wants done because on existing issue I have with my platelets. Fine. That's now scheduled for the Tuesday before the surgery. I had the ekg, blood work, and chest X-ray. The nurse at the hospital said it has to be sent over to my primary doctor for the clearance but everything looks great. I get to my primary today and he reviews it and says there is a problem with my ekg and he wants to repeat it. He does and the problem is still there. Inverted t waves. Said I need a stress test before he can clear me. I go to schedule it and nothing free until mid October. They are going to try and fit me in Monday. I go home and Google inverted t waves and now think I am about to have a heart attack any second! Im so nervous about my heart and I don't think the surgery is going to happen next week! Just venting. Thanks for getting this far lol. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  17. Woke up this morning and did my daily weigh-in and was excited (and relieved) to finally be under 200lbs! I've been bouncing around the 200 mark for over a week. Weight is now 199.6...just barely in there, but I'll take it! lol. Getting below 200 was my first major goal since having surgery on Jan. 11 (down from 243 day of surgery). I've also gone from a 38-40 in pants size, down to a 34 inch waist. Really glad I had this surgery!

    Just Ate Solid Food

For the first time. Banded 4 weeks ago today. So I chose a small chili from Wendy's. it tasted so good I almost cried! Can a small chili really only be 210 calories?!! That is supposedly right but it tasted so good and now i feel guilty. Like i cheated! I am going to
  19. fwd leap, I think you should be eating bt 4-6 oz of food or 1/2cup to 3/4 cup.

    Sleeved on thursday

I was sleeved monday and my stomach is still bloated and swollen. When I had the band done it took a few weeks for mine to go down. It is uncomfortable but I walk, take Gas X, and still mine is big. Hang in there.
  21. I'm not a frequent poster...actually have been so busy I'm not even a frequent viewer lately. But it occurred to me today that yesterday was my 3 month mark, so I thought I'd check in. Crazy how time flies. I started my journey at 244, and am now down to 193, total of 51 pounds. Weight loss has definitely slowed down, but I'm eating differently now than I was right after surgery, so it's not surprising. Generally losing about 2 lbs a week, though. Still no regrets and no problems. I was in India in late September for a business trip. I'd generally stick with Protein shakes and bars during the day, then would have some local food for dinner with my coworkers. I tried to be smart...nothing too spicy or crazy, mostly chicken. A couple nights we went to buffets and our hosts would bring plates of a variety of things to try. I tried everything, to not be rude, but in very small bites. Actually lost 5 lbs that week. We also just got back from Italy last week...too many carbs and not enough Protein, but it was a special trip with my husband to Celebrate my 40th birthday, so I tried to just enjoy it...with very small portions. Several times, my husband and I shared a dish, and I ate about 1/4 of it, and he'd eat the rest. Only lost a pound, but that's better than most of my previous vacations. I've been very blessed in that I'm not ever gotten sick, and have tried a multitude of foods and had no issues. Water is always a challenge, sometimes I just don't think of it. But I've also learned pretty quickly that I feel lousy if I don't stay hydrated, so I'm getting better about it. I'm about another 50-60 lbs from my goal...weight training and running are the next things on my "do list" which will help me get there sooner. My son wants to do a Spartan race with me on the Spring, so I guess that's my next milestone. So zero regrets and zero problems, I'm thrilled I did this. Don't get me wrong, I hate that I had let myself get to where I was...5'4" and 244 isn't a good place to be. 262 was my highest weight during one of my pregnancies a couple of years ago...so I'm not proud of where I was. But I'm proud of where I am now and of the courage it took to do this. And I'm proud of where my life is heading...I made the right decision for my health, my family and my future. Cheers. No matter where you are on your journey, I hope you're on your way to getting healthier and happier for all the right reasons...starting with you.
  22. It is still less than you use to eat, right? Keep moving forward, everybody trips and falls sometime. You have to define yourself as how you get up and get back to it. I at two bites of chocolate last week and this week I have lost 7 pounds. Shrug it off and move forward, you can't do anything about the past anyways!

    No drinking with meals?

I'm with luluc on this one. I avoid drinking 2-3 glasses of water with a meal, as was my previous habit, but I don't stick strictly to the no drinks 30 min before/1hr after rule either. I like the restriction level I have, which is fairly subtle and allows me to eat whatever I want but stops overeating. If I finding myself feeling hungry soon after meals, I will be a little more strict on it, but mostly I'll sip a half glass or so throughout a meal, just to keep my mouth wet. When I go out for dinner, I'll nurse a half glass of wine throughout the meal and it doesn't seem to make me overeat, as I only order an appetiser meal anyway.
  24. My weight loss has been officially noticed by the women I work with (from about 2 months post-op) and by my students, but not really from anyone else. Some of my students from 3-4 years back often don't recognise me at first, and do a double-take when they realise it's me. It is heartwarming to hear my students call me "slim" now, even though I'm not, as I'm still obese, and even if and when I get to a normal BMI I will still be considered big by Japanese standards (as I was when I first came here many years ago). The men I know haven't said anything to me unless I bring it up first.

    Bile?

My experience may not be the same but I have the same waking up choking on Fluid that burns terribly. I have been taking an antacid once daily for a week or so and it hasn't happened since. I will follow this post. Its definitely a nasty way to wake up! Also I never had acid coming up before my surgery. If anyone knows if there is a connection maybe to our new small pouch?
