Bored with eating?
14isabella replied to 14isabella's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks,Shirley! Question: Where would be the best place to buy in bulk? I get my current supply from costco, but they only have RTD in 8.25 oz (and they're light-but with 3 grams sugar-when the others I see are diet with no sugar grams..)and only chocolate. I love the portability of the RTD's,but there are SOOOO many different formulations, it's maddening! I LOVE the 14 0z lights, but can't find them in bulk!! Help!..lol..Are you mixing or drinking RTD's? Thanks again! -
For those past the 2 week post-op liquid diet
TKW replied to ms.lady's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Haven't taken even a sip of a protien drink since 2 weeks after surgery. I don't have trouble getting in my protien (most days). A lot of people drink them on a regular basis. I don't care for them... Also, it is liquid calories that don't fill you up because it goes right through your band. Good source of protien though. Good luck to you! -

Here is a current pic of me, taken at Disney...
piercedqt78 replied to piercedqt78's topic in The Lounge
I was activly updating my avatar as the messages were posted. Disney is my second home, we try to go twice a year. When our plane lands in Orlando my heart is racing and I am giddy like a kid at Christmas time. I grew up in Jacksonville Beach so Florida is really my home. We spent 10 glorious days in the sun and I am already planning our Oct trip. I am either in Disney or planning to be there. It was nice to be there and feel like I was thin enough to take pictures and not be ashamed. I was a very good girl, I made sure to get in my water and as much protein as I could each day. I fell in love with the rotissery chicken kids meals and the dessert was sugar-free applesauce. I had that and a splenda sweetned tea just about everyday. I managed to maintain my weight while there, that is a first for me ever. I actually lost 3 inches at my waist and around my thighs, I think I walked off those inches. I am hoping that my pictures of me smiling and living life will inspire, new and hopeful bandsters. ~Mandy -

Mandy, you look GREAT!! My last trip to Disney World was 2 weeks before my surgery & I was MISERABLE!! I was so big, hot & uncomfortable. One of my goals is to go back there as a thin person & actually ENJOY it. Your pictures have inspired me!! THANK YOU!!!! -

DANCING ON THE CEILING!! INSURANCE APPROVED!!
ButterflyM posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah!! I'm so excited, just learned that my insurance approved me on Thursday!! I must say it was a VERY QUICK process for me. I attended the information session on April 6, Met with the Psych Dr on May 10, attended a mandatory support group May 11; Had my last PCP visit May 20 (insurance required 3 documented visits within a 12 month period). I faxed all my paperwork from my PCP's office Friday May 20 to the surgeon's office... and Thursday May 26 was approved. 7 weeks and 1 day! I was a bit confused when I rec'd the call from the Case Manager from my insurance company yesterday asking me all these questions, going over my health history and what to expect during and after surgery. She was acutally the one that told me that I was approved!!! Will be getting my surgery date on Tues when the office reopens. I think what really helped me to get approved so quickly was going over the information package that I rec'd after I attended the information session. I made my PCP Dr appointments the day after the information session- I begged the office to squeeze me in at the end of the day because I needed a visit for the month- they did April 29 last appointment. I also scheduled an appointment for 3 weeks later. And I used my appointment from last year as the 1st documented visit. So that was my 3 visits. I will send the Dr's office bagels. They REALLY worked with me. My PCP actually dictated& printed my last visit while i was still there so that i could have it faxed over. She usually does not dictate until 2- 3 week later!! She knew I needed is like yesterday! I was hoping for end of June date but will take what I can get a this point! I'm on my way to BANDSTER LAND!!! YEAH!!! Wish me Luck! -
My Emotional & Mental Fight with Upcoming Surgery Date
bander11 replied to Cynsayshun's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know the feeling - in pondering dates I keep saying nope can't have that one it's too close to my daughters B'Day 10/2 - she passed away 12/2004. Then there is 10/14 - nope that's when my daddy died but I still have a couple clearances to go through so were shooting for 10/26 or 11/3 don't thing I have any issues with either of those dates. But it's funny how we let dates control us. My daughter did it too - she was scheduled for a Csection on 10/14 (this has been a few years ago) she was exited about having a date for her son to be born - but then she got home and was telling me the date - it hit her - she said oh mom, I can't do that date - she jumped right on the phone and requested the day before or after - so my grandson was born 10/13/2004. I agree with the poster above that you hearing your song was a sign...He's watching over you and I am sure supporting you - he will be there holding your hand until you wake up - Take care and let us know how you are doing... -

Pre Op diet/ post op eating/ and ugh!
honk replied to formykids2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It does get easier. Please remember however that it will take you several fills before you get restriction so this will be a will power diet to start. Regarding "being satisfied on a bite or two" my doctor would not agree with this statement. He does not approve of snacks. He would say to choose reasonable food choices; eat 3 oz of solid protein and some low fat veggies. So at Arbies they have roast beef right? So you'll be able to eat the meat but not the bun (I CAN eat bread just choose not to); and a side salad. Don't plan on being satisfied on 2 bites for dinner in reality you will be eating much more than that (3 oz of protein should take you way more than 2 bites.) -
To call or not to call, that is the question....
Penpen replied to donbie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have UHC also. I had my first appointment with my surgeon and thought they sent for ins. approval right away but found out later, that they sent it out a week later. They actually told me that when I called to check on it about 2 weeks after the visit. There must be some reason it takes them that long to send for approval. I was also told that legally the insurance company has 30 days to reply. But if I remember right, it took almost 3 weeks for approval. Also, I checked our UHC account online nearly dayly and nothing ever showed up. Things didn't start hitting our account (reports, claims, etc.) until after surgery. I'm 19 days post op. I hope this helps. I actually blogged my timeline if your interested in seeing it. My blog is right above my signature. -
Blue Shield PPO- do u need to wait 6 months for surgery?
5DogMa replied to bethk12@gmail.com's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have BCBS of Louisiana. They told me NO 6 month wait period 3 different times by 3 different people when I called in to verify coverage from the beginning to check on this. That was February of this year. Then when my WLS office called they said 6 months consecutive visits! My first WLS visit was in May, then I went in June, I didn't go in July because I was moving, but went in Aug, Sept, October. I have a pre-op Nov 17 and surgery penciled in for Dec 7th. There is a chance they will deny me coverage! Even after my WLS told me this I called them and again they said NO 6 month waiting period! This was in August.. Criteria was BMI 35+ with co/morb or BMI 40+. My BMI was 42. Then with all this testing they found 2 co/morbs so I could drop below 40. My co-worker had WLS 2 years ago and did not have a 6 month wait period. I am really upset about this. I have met my max out of pocket because of all this testing and if I have to wait until next year it will cost me another $4,000 out of pocket!!! This sucks out loud!! Anyone else have this kind of thing happen? If I had known this I would have went to that July appt between all the moving. My WLS is sending in for approval this next week. URGH!!!! -

26 Day Pre-OP?!?!?!
jennifer1 replied to pinknsassyemt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
wow 26 days!!!! guess i shouldn't complain about my 2 weeks. it is to shrink your liver, but every surgeon has their own protocol. As far as loosing weight and them not doing the surgery Ive never heard of that. I've been on my pre-op liquid diet for 6 days and have lost 10lbs. i shared this with a friend today and she was like wow see you dont need the surgery! ARE YOU SERIOUS! I've had nuthin but liquids so of course i'm gonna lose weight, but there is no way i can live off liquids only. i just kindly reminded her that i cant live on liquids. therefore i dont think a surgeon would ever say you lost too much weight to have the surgery. Now my surgeon does have a zero pound clause, meaning if you weigh more than you did when you started your pre-op's they can decide not to do the surgery! YIKES! but if you follow the pre-op rules dont see how that could happen. Best wishes to you! -

Weight loss during pre-op diet
faroutman replied to EzekielsMommy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on the liquid diet for 14 days. I am actually going 18 days. I had my mind set to start on a certain day before I got my surgery day, and my surgery day was 18 days from the day I wanted to start. I should have known better. But I'm in it now and there is no turning back. This is day 8 and I'm feeling better with the 14 pounds I've lost already. I'm shooting for 25. I'm not gellin' on the 2 weeks after surgery. A brother wants something solid. -
6 month weigh ins for insurance approval bc/bs of AL
JanetLynn posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi guys and gals, I'm a newbie and went to my first seminar 2 weeks ago. I was told I have to do the 6 month dr supervised diet/weigh in for bc/bs of AL. How long after your last weigh in does it take to get the approval letter? Thanks to all who respond! -
You could ask you doc about it. Just remember that your hormones are wacky with all the changes in your body, so your cycle is bound to change. If you're anemic, find out from you doc when you can start iron supplements. I was told week five, but every doc is different. The iron will make you feel much better!

Are Bandsters like Brides???
NJGirl32 replied to NJGirl32's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone- it's nice to know that I am not the only one totally obessed with the band Renne-thanks for sharing your journey with your husband. I hope I get lots more hugs and more affection too! Last night we wentto dinner - I told him this was my last meal for about 4-6 weeks (restuarant). We talked all about the band over dinner-it was really nice. He asked questions and was surprised at some things. He really didn't understand how the band worked so I explained itto him and said it's just a tool and I have to do my part too. He was really listening and it was a great night. I told him I won't be able to lift heavy things like food shopping and maybe laundry-he said for how long..3 years? LOL I said "Yep that's sounds about right!" So we had some serious discussions and a few laughs. But I am still a Bandzilla- -
I feel for you!! This happened to me 2 weeks out and I thought I might lose my mind for how awful I felt. a heating pad and sleep were my best friends and full sugar popsicles. You should call you doc about what to do for pain though. GOOD LUCK! ((((((hugs))))))
