That's probably it, lifting the puppy, because you're not supposed to lift anything more than 10 pounds for about six weeks.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Hi, all. Day 10 after surgery, and things are going extremely well. I have no more pain, I haven't vomited or had food come back up or have it get "stuck" as some of you have mentioned. I'm on purees now and am cheating a bit in the sense that I'm having soft foods and chewing them really, really well. Once this week I ate more than I should have, but there was no dumping. It was just discomfort as if I had eaten too much before I had surgery. I always feel full and am still having trouble getting all the protein and water every day, but I'm getting closer. I have two big issues that remain. I'm still extremely dizzy and disoriented at times, especially when I stand up. I got up to go the bathroom last night and got very confused and crashed into a standing mirror that is nowhere near the bathroom. Thankfully, my wonderful partner jumped up and saved me. The other thing is that taking ground-up pills is disgusting! I have tried many different ways, and I've found that the best thing is to just throw all the powder into my mouth followed by some water, which gets it over with quickly. (I'm on quite a few meds and it amounts to about a tablespoon.) I can't wait until I can swallow pills whole again!

    February 2019 weight loss buds

I went out for lunch today for the first time. I was with my husband, so there wasn't any weirdness about me not eating. He ordered lettuce wraps, so yes, Sheri I too ate some "salad". I took one bite, then I remembered being told that was the hardest thing to digest, or one of the hardest - lettuce. I ate about 2 tablespoons (if that) of the chicken tofu filling. I ate slow for once so I didn't get level 10 overstuffed but I did get nauseated so I know I pushed it eating a heavily seasoned filling, even though, as per usual, I chewed it to mush. I too miss veggies. I have had some canned green beans, but I miss the real deal!

    Before and After Pics

I still see me as fat. I'm so self conscious of any pudge lol. I've lost more than I was told was my max loss but it's because I'm still on liquids and soft foods 10 months later.

    Non Scale Victories

Today is my 10-year wedding anniversary. Yesterday I went shopping for a cocktail dress for a special weekend we have planned. When I was in high school, my friends and I would go to the mall and try on prom dresses in the department store junior section, just for fun. The largest size they ever had was a 14. I would ask my friends to try to zip the dress up, and it wouldn't zip, ever. I blamed my boobs or my large frame (shoulders/ribs too wide..) but the truth was, I was just too heavy. It still makes me feel shame, even 20 years later. Well, yesterday, I found a beautiful cocktail dress in a size 12. I decided to try it on, despite having flashbacks to high school. It was tight and I couldn't reach to zip it myself, so I stepped out to ask an attendant to zip it for me. Y'all - it fit, with space to spare. I feel like Carrie Bradshaw in this damn dress, and I bought a pair of sky-high heels to match. And the best part? This normally $298 dress was on clearance at Nordstrom Rack for $35!
  12. Thanks so much for the input. Okay, so I’m going to continue to follow this thread and see what y’all are doing, and when I feel the time is right (once I’ve lost most of my weight and feel as if I’m truly hitting a plateau) I’ll start playing around with IF to maybe get the last 10-15% off that I’m sure won’t come off easily.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

One thing I’ve been regressing on this week is I think I’m probably eating too many veggies too fast. Weirdly enough, one of my favorite all-time things is salad. Cobb salad, Greek salad, Asian salad, wedge salad... I love them all. My husband has always said that I should’ve probably published a salad cookbook because I could have that as the main course for dinner every night and it wouldn’t get boring. And my salads have a minimum of 10-12 ingredients. Lol, in my fave Cobb that I used to make, I had TWO different kinds of bacon and 3 types of cheeses before I would even start with the rest of the stuff. Sigh..... I miss salad. That being said, I miss it so much that I’ve been sneaking salad into my dinner meal and my protein levels are suffering. I also had part of an avocado yesterday, which I think breaks the record for the longest time I’ve ever gone without avocado. I’m so scared that I’m going to overstretch my sleeve, but I’m seriously having veg cravings. I’ve gone over my journal and I’ve taken vitamins every day and I’m eating clean as far as limiting sugars and I’ve had zero artificial sugars because any kind of artificial sweetener cranks up my food cravings into overdrive. It’s weird..... I could care less about eating any carbs, but I’m obsessing over vegetables, which I can’t really eat because I don’t have the space. Anyone else going through this right now?

    Spouse support

My boyfriend was supportive but also nervous. I asked him to come to one of the hospital support groups that focused on the role of family in this change. He got a little... defensive about how my changes would effect him. Since then it's gotten better, we talk about surgery as a concrete thing, since it's scheduled for 3 weeks from now. We both started eating low carb about 10 months ago, so it's just been a process. Don't take it too personally if the initial reaction is not what you hoped.. It's a major life change that will affect your spouse, and they have no control over your choice or the outcome.

    adding in your "addiction foods"

How intense and the duration of exercise are you doing? All dieticians and trainers are different. Most contradict each other. When you add 100grams of complex carbs, keep an eye on the scale. You can always dial them back or change your diet if you gain. I hope their suggestions work for you. I'm almost 5 years out. I run and weight lift. I do a small helping of low glycemic carbs post workout for recovery. My carb range is still low while in weight loss mode. I don’t increase my carbs (carb load) unless I am running over 10 miles to a full marathon. Carbs are my vice but a necessary evil to fuel my training. I still have to keep them in check or I gain weight.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Honestly I’m having the same problem. It’s probably the biggest issue I’m having other than not being able to eat my vitamins. Just last week I walked by and picked up some leftovers off my child’s plate and just ate them like I normally would prior to surgery. I did not throw up but I was in incredible discomfort. I didn’t even chew them thoroughly and I was only two weeks out at that point. I’m thinking slowing down is the key. Sometimes I just blindly forget that I just had a surgical procedure that will limit the capacity I can eat. Also I found this online. It’s not that helpful for me because I am rushing through eating but as I have had pain I am becoming more aware and slowing down. This list is to encourage thinking about how you feel while eating instead of mindlessly consuming an entire measured amount or focusing on cleaning your plate. Think about these levels as you eat and soon you will be able to stop right where you need to be. Hungry level 1 – weak, headache, confusion, slow movements, low blood sugar level 2 – very uncomfortable, light headed, irritable, unable to concentrate level 3 – uncomfortable hollow feeling, stomach rumbling level 4 – slightly uncomfortable, just beginning to become aware of and feel hunger level 5 – comfortable, you are satisfied but could eat a little more level 6 – happily comfortable, satisfied. Many emit a signal, usually a hiccup, sniffle or sneeze at the back edge before moving to level 7 level 7 – full and feeling that you don’t really want another bite. This is just a little beyond where you want to be level 8 – not wanting to swallow the chewed food in your mouth where you must spit it out, uncomfortable level 9 – overfull, very uncomfortable, regret in having eaten too much, pouch pain, hoping to regurgitate for relief. Feeling this way normally initiated by foods that go down easily but swell such as rice, pasta, bread level 10 – stomach pain, chills, regurgitating of food, followed by intense fatigue Overfull
  20. I had my vsg done on 2/20/19. The first week I lost 15 pounds. The second week I lost 5 lbs. the third week was only 2 lbs. I’m still only taking in a protein drink and soup. Is this normal or should I be worried?
  21. Sheribear68

    Yup. I regret this.

Lol, not gonna lie... I wish my NUT would tell me to eat 100 gm carbs daily. Heck, my guys tell me not to go over 40 and I’m walking on my treadmill 10 miles weekly and doing Pilates 3x weekly. 😂😂😂 Maybe I can bribe your guys to talk to mine and I can have more carbs...

    THREE MONTH checkup

Oh wow, you've lost 92 pounds in 3 months? How?! I had surgery same day you did and have only lost 35 pounds. I have my 3-month check up at 4 months, I guess, scheduled for 4/2/19. Will they do labs then? I thought it was just a follow-up from surgery. I'd be curious to know my cholesterol and other labs now that I've lost a little weight. CONGRATS TO YOU!
  23. I am 19 days post op and last night i started having left flank pain that kinda radiates up to my left shoulder... anyone have anything like this ?

    Solid food progression

I'm almost 3 years out. Here's what my day looks like: Breakfast - shake with 1 cup of Fairlife Skim Milk, protein powder and frozen fruit of my choice and coffee (35-ish grams of protein) Morning snack - Skyr Icelandic provision yogurt and a piece of fruit (10g protein) Lunch - Mixed green salad with 4 ounces of chicken and 1 tb of balsamic vinaigrette (31g protein) Afternoon snack - cheese (1.5 ounces) and grapes or another small fruit (10 g) Dinner - 3-5 ounces protein, small salad and small veg (asparagus, broccoli, etc.) 20+ grams of protein depending on the meat at dinner. I usually add another shake in and some carbs, but that's because I work out for about 1.5 hours each day burning anywhere from 700-1000 calories in a workout and I can't go into that much of a deficit or my body will eat muscle instead of fat. I'm training for a major competition. Hope this helps.
