My dietician said Bariatric weight loss was like a staircase. Drops then plateaus and drops and plateaus. I am in the 2nd of week of my 2nd stall. I always keep tabs of what I eat, just for my own peace of mind. It will break

Wow, you guys! Thank you a MILLION TIMES for all of the advice and support!! This certainly has been a life-changing journey, and ultimately, I’m just so glad I did it. All my blood work and vital signs have improved drastically since the surgery, with the exception of the hypoglycemia and the low BP. I probably am being a bit too strict with my goals - I still have to work on accepting that I don’t have the same body that I had when I was 23 and working out five days/week, before all the spine stuff started. I will take all of your suggestions to heart and will definitely discuss all options with my surgical team next month. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! ❤️ -
Food Before and After Photos
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I keep telling myself “I’ll post that later” and then never do but I take the pictures. 🤦♀️ Anyway, my stomach has been on a “let’s eat Asian” kick the past couple weeks so I’ve been making mostly Korean food. Hot and sour soup (Chinese) bulgogi (Korean marinated beef) tteokbokki (SPICY Korean rice cakes, I bought these because I can also, they’re a lot of work in a home kitchen) 😂 kani (Japanese cucumber and imitation crab/surimi salad) that I’ve made twice because a teenager ate most of the first batch without me! oi muchim (Korean cucumber salad) Musaengchae (Korean daikon radish salad) Chadol doenjang jjigae (Korean- it’s a beef stew of sorts-light on the beef and has zucchini, potatoes, and tofu) I’ve also made some daikon kimchi but it’s not fermented enough yet to eat 😩, some pickled red onions, simmering roasted beef marrow for bone broth, and last night made roasted Cornish hen with potatoes, carrots, and onions that my youngest refused to eat because the “chicken” wasn’t breaded. 🤦♀️ -
You’re ok. Stalls are very common & part of the process of weight loss. We all talk about the a stall at around the 3 week mark but they can occur any number of times while you are losing. They tend to last 1-3 weeks. Think of them as your body needing to take a breath & getting used to the changes. If it persists for more than a month, chat with your dietician. You may need a small tweak to your diet or activity.

Looooong stall - Almost two months out
LouLouM replied to LouLouM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh my gosh. I just posted AGAIN about another 3 week stall! 🤪 I did a search and found my own post. Anyway, hearing I am again, in another 3 week stall. -
I had gastric sleeve on November 29th and have been the same weight for 3 weeks. Just want to either hear, Yes, that's normal, or if perhaps I need to reevaluate what I'm eating. Thanks!

First, congratulations on your weight loss & that you are feeling stronger & are able to be more active. How great is that! As @MiniGastricBypassDude said you don’t get to choose your body weight set point. Yes, you might be in or close to maintenance or in a prolonged stall. Yes, building muscles could contribute to the weight loss pause but also the more muscle you have the more calories you burn so you may need a calorie increase to compensate. Certain medications can also hamper weight loss. But logging your food & speaking with your dietician is always a good place to start. It can be easy to get a little complacent with portion sizes, etc., not meet protein goals or there maybe something missing in your diet. Sometimes a small tweak is all that is needed. The low blood pressure many experience after surgery is usually caused by an initial lack of nutrients from the restricted diet & dehydration. It’s why it’s usually a temporary experience. The same for the hypoglycaemic episodes you may have experienced. (Unfortunately I experienced them both before surgery & still do now almost three years post surgery. The low blood pressure is worse & occurs every day. Carrying my old weight actually used to help because it raised my BP to a normal 120/80 with just occasional drops. Didn’t expect that!) They get better as nutrition & portion sizes increase & fluid levels are maintained. You mentioned you have your annual check soon. How often do you see your surgeon or their team? How frequently do you have blood tests? I still see my surgeon’s colleague every three months & have a 3 monthly blood test so it always surprises me when people have follow ups much less frequently. All the best. -
First time with foamies/frothing

I read a study online which stated that many bariatric patients have difficulty with red meat forever. Interesting that you are allowed regular meat already. I think most programs allow soft, moist foods at 4 weeks. -

It's been 9 years. Here's my story DON'T HESITATE TO GET THE SLEEVE
Rick Green posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
When I started this in 2013 weighing 258 lbs. The most I ever weighed and after diets worked (I was down to 175 in 2008 for a little over a year) they never were permanent. I'm going to burst a lot of bubbles now, neither is the sleeve BUT IT IS WHY I CAN NOW KEEP THE WEIGHT OFF. Let me explain. It is now 8 1/2 years later and I am down to 178 for well over a year now. A year before that I was up to almost 230 again. Not because of how much I ate, but what I ate. I was a carbohydrate addict. I've been living 2 1/2 years on Keto. I have NEVER CHEATED even on vacations, and we take a lot. It is so easy these days to be on Keto and eat what you want since just about everything is made low carb with the exception of good bread, my favorite. Now, here's how the sleeve comes in to this. Many ways. First, I was pre-diabetic and all my family, parents, siblings and uncles are, or were diabetic. The 20 lbs just after I took on this adventure at least kept me out of diabetes. The best thing was that it kept me from eating too much at a time. I could eat all day but not a lot at a time. I have had no problems eating anything I was told that I could never eat again before the surgery. Now, I was actually fluctuating from 230 down to 200 but would eventually get back up to the 230. Here's the thing. I have an eating disorder, didn't know it until a year ago. It's called Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID). My symptoms are that I've NEVER tasted or eaten, poultry, seafood, most vegetables and no steak, pork chops, in fact the ONLY meats I eat are sausages and cured meats. I will not eat a sausage unless I know that it's only made with beef or pork or both together. I love pizza and pasta and of course bread, so those are the hardest things that I have to avoid with Keto, but here's how I do it. I will order a pizza and always say extra sauce because I'm not going to eat the crust and need to scrape the toppings off the top (so it doesn't cook into the bread). Here's the thing, the crust flavor bakes into the pizza, so I never really miss the crust other than with my eyes. Anyway, 2 1/2 years later I live with it and like I said I don't cheat and the urge to cheat is driven away with this thought. Everyone tells me you have to have a cheat day once in awhile. You know you've told yourself that on each of your diets. Here's the problem with that. Next week I'll think, I didn't gain weight on the last cheat day, I can do it again, and so on. I still truly live for food, but now it's 90% sausage (good hot dogs) or ham, bacon and salami. Just think, you guys can have all the chicken, fish and steaks you want. Load them up with butter. Since I limit myself to 40-50 carbs a day, I eat a dinner roll at a restaurant and load it with butter. Anyway, here are photos of before and after. I'm now 71, very healthy OH, and because of the sleeve and Keto (and some pills) my blood numbers have all been perfect for the last two years. I mean perfect when my Cholesterol and Triglycerides were always high. My glucose is 94 and A1C is always around 5.4. -
4 days post op and I'm so hungry!
Making_changes replied to RedHookRaven's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am about 4 weeks post op. I thought I was super hungry the first week, but I think it was head hunger. When I started eating food with substance, I got sick. It is okay to eat often. You just can't eat alot. Opt for those thicker shakes. Oh and eat cream of wheat if you can. It helps with BM. -

Everyone is different and it sounds like you have come a VERY long way- so congratulations!! Seriously, 177 is great! I only chime in because I am the same age & height. I’m not sure what you do for diet but, I keep track of my calories, protein, carbs & fat. I stay under 1200 cal/day (was closer to 800-1000/day first 6mo) & min 70g protein per day. TBH there are days where I feel like I didn’t eat a lot but my calories are high because of seemingly healthy choices that were higher cal and I need to adjust how/if/when I eat certain foods. If I didn’t track I would have no idea this was happening. I’m now WNL but that last ONE POUND took 6 weeks to lose. Lol. Notably, I don’t exercise a lot but am trying to increase. -
meal kits for bariatrics?
Sleeve_Me_Alone replied to Cutenchubby's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
https://www.baribox.org/ - I've never tried it, but have heard good reviews. My family uses Dinnerly a few times a week. I just stick to protein & veggie heavy meals and split my portion into 2-3 meals. -

all I can say is that the last 20 lbs were a bear for me to lose. We're talking like two lbs a month, despite the fact I was really working at it. And after being down there for a few months, those 20 lbs came back on - and here I sit. I do know that it's very common to have a 10-20 lb rebound after one hits their lowest weight - but in my case, I also wonder if maybe where I am now is where my body really wants to be (my set point). That's not to say I couldn't lose it again, but that would involve dropping back on my calories, and having to fight to get down there again - and then continue to struggle to keep it there. of course, you could also just be in a long stall, too. Mine tended to last longer the closer I got to a normal BMI. Or...yes - it could be that you're building muscle. long story short - it's hard to tell. It really could be any of these things. That's a good idea to run it by your team next time you see them. In the mean time, just keep up with the good eating and exercise habits....sounds like you've done really well so far! -
I tried to be a big dog-- wound up on the porch!
Making_changes replied to oldandtired's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been Introducing solids for the past 2 weeks. Constantly overeat and dread the following 2-3 hours. Today my meal was tasting so good. I had about five bites and literally, out loud said, "girl, you do not want another bite. You will regret it!" Lol- so I put it away. -

I tried to be a big dog-found out I was still just a pup! I am about 10 weeks post-op. I was out and about this weekend, and stopped at a stir-fry restaurant. I did order a lot of protein, but it (of course) comes with rice and you have to have baby corn, water chestnuts, etc., etc.. I ate a little, it was so good, ate another bite. (Can you see what coming??) By the time I left, I was sweating, and it's a 30 minute ride home. I was fortunate I had a plastic shopping bag... It was the first time I got the foamies. I would drive a little, then find a place where I could pull over and retch til my toes curled up.. Go a little further...repeat... Back to soft food, and no more stir-fry for a long time!. -

I really empathize with this, but - ! - you unfortunately don't get to set your new weight set point at surgery. Your body may decide this is where you're good, and fighting it too hard could lead to a new cycle of overeating --> restrictive dieting --> more overeating ... Is there not a chance you could be happy where you are now? (And if not, why?) I'm BMI 26.8. Heck, last week I was BMI 28 for a while. I am well within a healthy weight range by any account but the BMI scale. -

As we get closer to a normal BMI weight loss does slow down. For me it slower about 20, but Now I am 9 pounds from “normal” and I am stuck!! I don’t do a lot of exercise either other than walking. It is possible it’s just a long stall but if it doesn’t break soon you will have to explore the possibility that you have put yourself into maintenance. At that point you will have to log and see exactly how many calories you are currently eating and consider cutting them by a bit to start the loss again. You say you eat three small meals and don’t snack much but you would be surprised how much the calories can vary based on that. Maybe before cutting calories speak to your dietician because of the low BP and blood sugar (I am not experienced with those). -
weight plateau and energy loss
ShoppGirl replied to Rachael101's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I agree it’s probably just a typical stall. Your lucky because most have them around three weeks out. Im sure the anemia is depleting your energy as you said. Hopefully adding a supplement will fix that fairly quick. Just keep sticking to your clinics plan and your loss will start again. -

Hallo, luek je te ontmoeten. Yes as the others said its a stall. Very frustrating. I felt very weak for the first 2 to 3 months. I put it down to my age and extreme nausea. Once I got my calories in the 800- 1000 a day range and sorted my vitamins, things improved hugely. I can now clean the house without problems and have started walking. It will get better. Good luck -
Hi, everyone! I’m 11 months post-op from VSG and I have a bit of a dilemma. I have not been losing any weight as of about 6 weeks ago. I’m 38, 5’5”, and currently yo-yoing between 177 and 178 during every weekly weigh-in. I still want to lose about 30 more pounds to put me in a healthy weight class. Nothing has changed with my eating habits - I still eat very small portions, mostly solid protein, and do not snack much during the day. Since the surgery, I have had some issues with orthostatic hypotension (dizziness from low blood pressure) and hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), so I would be very surprised if my diet needed any adjustment right now. I should mention that I am coming off of ten years of disability for early onset degenerative disc disease, so other than twice-weekly physical therapy, exercise has been completely foreign for me, hence the excessive weight gain. I’ve had four neck surgeries and countless back injections and procedures. At my heaviest, I couldn’t stand for more than 10 minutes without excruciating pain in my lower back. However, in the last month, I’ve been feeling well enough to start seeing a personal trainer once a week and easing into a light workout routine (dynamic stretching, light free weights, strength training, etc.). I’m also walking more frequently and for longer distances. My question is this: could the lack of weight loss be due to rebuilding muscle from my new exercise regimen? Or should I try to adjust my food intake again and see what happens? I have my one year checkup with my gastric surgery team coming up next month and I plan to talk to them about this issue, but I wanted to seek out any advice on here, too. Thanks so much in advance!!

I’m about 5 weeks out from rny gastric bypass and I’m starting to get back to a more “normal” diet. Are there any meal kits out there that anyone knows of? a couple years ago I was in a ldr and my bf used to order 3-4 meals a week. When I visited, it was enough for two and when I was not there, he always had leftovers since they are designed for 2. Since I’m obviously not eating as much as I did pre op, one kit would probably be 4 or 5 meals and that seems so wasteful because I can’t imagine eating the same thing 4 meals in a row. Are there meal kits out there that make smaller portions?
