    Breast implants- considering them

I have the gummy bear implants too. I can't compare to the alternatives but they look natural. I was at first disappointed that they didn't feel more natural, but my lover at the time told me I had just forgotten how young breasts felt, but he hasn't, and reported they felt great, natural and not hard. I always laugh when I think about that remark. My scars are invisible I did have to have a revision on one, but that was caused by trauma and unrelated to the type - breast implant revisions are way more common than I realized (for a variety of reasons). They have been great in terms of making my body feel normal again, but do your research. My implants are quite small, but what it gives me is the upper fullness that I lost with age, weight loss etc.
  2. @@prez You write about failure, but you can't fail unless you give up. Since you wrote on this forum maybe that means you might not be ready to give up yet. I could ask you all the obvious questions, but I'm not going to. I'll ask this one though, have you considered a revision from sleeve to bypass? Would that be an option you would be interested in?
  3. What percentage is the "large number " requiring revision. To bypass? Frankly, although it is much safer now, ANY WLS should scare the crap out of you. It's just that the alternative (over 300 and gaining, lifetime of trying to control my weight) was like 100 percent chance of early death with a side trip through disability. Post sleeve, maintaining a 150# plus weight loss for 3 years now I have a chance at a much better life. I was in turmoil for a solid year over revising from the failed band because of all these concerns. Bypass is a good procedure too, but has its own set of risks and issues. I think the soul searching I did during that time had contributed to my success with the sleeve. Lots to say about that, but it boils down to - do I choose living to eat, or eating to live. I choose living a full life, for as long as I am blessed with that chance.
  4. My starting weight was 303 on my scale. I had the gastric sleeve done on 8-22-2013. My weight the day before surgery was 259, a loss of 44 pounds in 4 months pre-op. Over the next 5 months or so I lost about 33 pounds & then I stalled. Nothing would break the stall. I did lose another 5 pounds over the next 10 months. On 12-8-2014 I had a panniculectomy where my surgeon removed 15 pounds (!) of excess skin & fat. This was covered by insurance since I had documentation of recurring severe rashes under the "apron." I did hit a low of 201 pounds about two months after the panniculectomy but that was very briefly & I have gradually regained to a weight of 218. My BMI was still just over 35 & I still have the co-morbidities, although markedly improved, that I did when I started. I can’t say the sleeve didn’t work. After all, I was down 84 pounds from my starting weight & 95 pounds from my highest weight. When they say patients lose an average of 65% of their excess weight, there are many on both sides of that average. I’m just one of the lower percentage people. So, after much consideration I decided to have the duodenal switch as my surgeon originally suggested. The major malabsorption of the classic duodenal switch still scares me so I had decided to ask Dr Srikanth if he would do a longer common channel when I learned of the single anastomosis duodenal switch, AKA loop DS or SIPS, which has an even longer common channel. He & I agreed on a 300 cm common channel which I am comfortable with. I got insurance approval one week after I completed the pre-op testing. On December 29, 2015, I had a revision of the sleeve, the loop DS & an hiatal hernia repair. Recovery has been a bit rocky. A week & a half ago I spent the afternoon & early evening in the ER getting IV fluids & a CT scan because I was having difficulty getting my fluids & Protein in & was vomiting quite a bit - four times just that morning. Two days later I had a repeat upper endoscopy & my surgeon dilated two strictures in my sleeve. There was still a lot of edema in the stomach but I'm doing much better now. I do wish there was a way to speed up resolution of the edema. I still feel a lot more restriction, especially in the afternoon & evening, than I ever did with the initial sleeve.

    Curious

I love reading everyone's stories and realizing I am not alone! I was a self pay band back in 2006 and now weigh about 40 lbs more than when I was banded. I am currently trying to get insurance to cover revision to gastric bypass. I'm scared I will fail with this surgery too! What was the biggest difference you noticed after getting bypass?

    Breast implants- considering them

I have gummy bear implants and I really like them. I actually need a revisions though. Not because there's anything wrong with the implants, but because I gained 80 pounds after I got them and then lost 100 pounds. That did a number on the little breast tissue I'd had when I originally got the implants and now I have pretty much NO real breast tissue and the implants can be seen below my skin. I am going to have to have new pockets created and the implants re-positioned. But the actual feel, texture, weight, and movement of the gummybear implants is awesome! PS: Get a boob job. DO IT! I cannot tell you how happy I have been with that decision (even with my need for a revision now). I would say that decision ranks right up there with my decision to have gastric sleeve in terms of "best decisions I've ever made".
  7. I was banded in 2011. After a couple port replacements, the band came out the end of 2013 due to infection. I was successful at losing weight with the band (about a 90lb loss). However, that weight (and then some) came on with a vengeance over the past 2 years. I am nearing the end of my pre-op requirements for the Sleeve. All I have left is a pre-op class February 8, and then we submit to insurance. I am hoping to have a February or March surgery date ????. I have the usual apprehensions about the actual surgery, however, I am more concerned that surgery won't be possible because of scar tissue I have accumulated over the past abdominal surgeries. My surgeon said that he will only know once I'm on the table and he goes inside. I'm freaked out that I will wake up without having the VSG performed. I trust my surgeon and know he is extremely competent and familiar with revisions. So I'm hoping for the best. I regret not documenting my lapband journey, so I have decided to document my sleeve journey on YouTube. It's mostly for myself, but I love learning from other people in the community going through the same things. If you want to check it out, search: Jenn's band to sleeve journey on YouTube. If you have a channel, I'd love to follow you as well...subscribe and we can follow each other.

    excess skin?

That is for sure! Dr. Nowzaradan is a bariatric surgeon. WTF is he doing performing plastic surgery? I have never in my life, through all of my research of plastics and bariatric surgery heard of a surgeon that was doing both. They are both very highly specialized fields! I would never let a bariatric surgeon perform plastics on me or vice versa. It's insane! And the two younger doctors on the show... what is up with them doing tummy tucks with no muscle repair? That's pretty useless! No muscle repair, no lipo, everyone of their patients have a shelf and a terrible scar. Well, I'll cut them a little slack with the scar, because we aren't really seeing the patients a year or more out, when scars will really start to fade. But the no muscle repair or lipo makes it truly just "skin removal" surgery, which is not what most people think when they think of a tummy tuck. It will definitely require later revision with muscle repair for anyone to get the "flat stomach" they are hoping for.

    excess skin?

The good news is, there are lots of amazing plastic surgeons in this world. I was thrilled with mine and plan to go back to her for a thigh lift eventually. My tummy tuck looks AMAZING. If I'd ended up with something like what I've seen on that show, I would be very disappointed! Definitely hope the show is footing the bill for those surgeries and the revisions that are certain to be needed down the road!
  11. Hello all! I'm researching getting the VSG surgery but I don't have my gallbladder. I had it removed about 4 years ago. While watching some YouTube videos I noticed a few people that were having complications simply because they no longer had their gallbladders. If I remember correctly, it was something about bile getting into their sleeves I think. It was giving them complications and some were told their only option was to have a revision to Gastric Bypass. Just wondering if those were just isolated events or rare events even. Has anyone who has had the VSG surgery after having their gallbladders removed either have/had complications as a result of that or haven't had any complications at all due to that? Thanks so much! mallymaven
  12. I have too read there's not any long term data, but it can be concluded on your own. They remove a large portion of your stomach. This gives the individual an opportunity at a fresh and jumpstart. It give an opportunity to reset the body while producing drastic results in the beginning. If you choose to avoid being serious with lifestyle changes you will have to start over and go to the last resort of bypass. If you feel that strongly long term results, effects, and possible revision its up to you to make the changes stick and be successful.

    Update

I had revision to bypass ....the first week you feel like you were literally run over by a car.It will slowly get better..,Revisions from the lapband is beyond tough! The surgery is much tougher than others...just the removal of the band is extremely tough.,,scar tissue etc.Thats why some surgeons won't do it all at once.I know your pain...please note the pain killers als cause headaches so don't be surprised.Hang in there....

    Update

Hello My friends! I had my lapband removal and sleeve revision done on Monday around noon. I have been home since yesterday afternoon and sadly am not one of you who has been pain free. I was hoping I was going to be pretty "ok" especially since I have a high pain tolerance, am younger and felt like I really prepared myself. I feel like absolute death! Sometimes it hurts to sip, hurts to breath, hurts to move, hurts to just be.... I know this will all pass, but I am just discouraged with the amount of pain I am in. I was sent home with liquid Hydrocodone and am allowed to take 10 ml every 6 hours... I have been using gas X pills as well. They seems to help (a little) when first taken, but definitely only about 1-2 hours long out of the 6 hour time frame. Hope everyone is well. Just focusing on getting myself better

    Emotional Cocktail

Thank you for your post! I am having a band-to-bypass revision Feb. 11, and am experiencing the same flood of emotions as you described - I just couldn't put it into words. Yes, it is a wonderful thing, to know we are on the road to health. I know there's a lot of work ahead, but I'm ready for the challenge, as I'm sure you are. Good luck to you on the 12th - you'll do just fine!
  16. Low BMI Band to Sleeve Revision 10/16/15. HW 184 SW 154 down to 136.5. I am 5'1 and my goal is 128 - Hope to reach it soon. Revision to the sleeve is the best thing I could have done. I still eat a little but I can eat healthy stuff like protein some veggies and hardly any carbs, the difference now is whatever I eat stays in. No more throwing up or getting stuck, it's a true blessing.

    Tacos

I found experimentation to be the best thing. An egg mixes well with tuna and makes a nice patty with a little olive oil. Sprinkle some salt on it and u have a crispy tuna patty - tons of protein too. Maybe some crab meat? Shrimp sautéed in a little butter and seasoned well? Salmon patties? Chicken salad? It's not the meat that won't sit well, it's the DRY meat. Add some moisture with butter, gravy, etc. make it more medium than well done. The point behind no corn or enriched flower the first couple months in the more successful programs is because our bodies NEED protein and theirs ZERO need for enriched flour and corn. Some of these programs around are nothing more than herding fat people thru a turnstile and knowing they will be back for revisions. Do some research. Don't eat enriched flour or corn. Don't drink alcohol, etc etc. Make smart decisions.
  18. I am a revision. I was banded for 9 years... but it was empty for the last several years due to repeated slips and scar tissue. I am having success with the Sleeve. I am losing slowly, but it is coming off. I have lost 65 lbs, which puts me exactly at 65% to goal. I have no regrets in choosing Sleeve.
  19. Hello, so I am 1 day post op, surgeon said everything went well, I didn't speak to him, he spoke to my husband and said he took a lot of stomach out, I dunno what that means since this was a revision, have to wait till I see him feb 3, I feel fine except am really bloated, like really a lot of gas, and very sore, don't remember all this from the sleeve on 2012.

    Back at it again.

@@ojibway, this is good news. Please provide some info, as I've gotten the impression that most medical plans don't pay or a second WLS. I'm banded and may have to have my band removed, in which case I'd like sleeve. What was your first surgery and, if you weren't covered then, what is different now? What makes a revision necessary? I realize you may have been without coverage at the time of your first WLS, which may or may not invalidate my questions. Thanks.
  21. Mommytoethan - My story is about the same as yours as well. it's been a miserable year for me. And I was just approved to get the band out and revision to sleeve. Thanks to everyone with all the great information posted here. It's helpful. I'm so looking forward to getting this band out. My sister had the sleeve 2 years ago and has been very successful and hasn't had any complications. Unless you count acid reflux - which she had before surgery. I've never had an issue with that so hoping it won't be become a problem for me.
  22. I was just approved for revision from band to sleeve. I've never had a problem with GERD or reflux (except when the band is too tight). Reading this thread is making me a little bit afraid of the sleeve! Yikes. I don't want to have that kind of problem all the time.
  23. This is a big question of "WHY" to me as well. The lapband is causing damage and the amount of revisions to sleeve or bypass is astounding. The lapband has caused me alot of organ injury. My esophagus is messed up and so is my teeth from vomiting .Its amazing the years I put up with the band suffering and trying to make it work....if there ever becomes a civil class action lawsuit I am in...
  24. I didn't have a revision, but I had the sleeve done with a bmi of 29. Best thing I have ever done for myself! I am 13 lbs from my goal weight.
  25. Hi everyone! I'm still pretty new to this site. I love reading about everyones WLS journey! My name is Donna. I live in Michigan. I was banded in 2008, had a slippage/repair in 2013, and am now in the process of meeting the requirements for 6 months of appointments to have the band removed and revision to the sleeve. (Should have an August surgery date) While at my first appointment, the Dr. at the Beaumont Weight Control Center said that there is a higher success rate for band to bypass, than band to sleeve patients. I do not feel comfortable about the idea of having a bypass. Please share your band to sleeve success stories with me. I gained all but 10# back from my 55# loss with the band, currently at 250/5'6 tall. Thank you!
