    Feeling hungry....

Congrats on your weight loss! I am only 3 months post op, so I cannot comment directly on your experience, however, I’ve always been a big snacker so I thought I’d share the information my dietician discussed with me. She told me some people have an easier time eating 5-6 small “meals” throughout the day versus 3 regular meals. She told me it’s okay if I eat a snack or two - as long as it is protein focused or a vegetable. So things like cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, cheese sticks, etc are good snack options. The other thing I’m curious about is if you are counting your calories or logging your intake in some way? That has always helped me to see what I’ve eaten and make sure I stay within my calorie limit. Anyway, I hope you can get some answers. Keep us posted ☺️

    That time of the month....

I am constantly hungry during PMS but during TOM I am not hungry and my band is tighter and I can't eat much. I tend to lose weight during TOM.
  3. I had surgery almost 2 years ago. I have gained back 20 of the pounds I originally lost. I now officially have only lost about 15lbs from the day I had surgery. I did better on my own with the motivation of getting surgery. I actually lost over 40lbs on my own so that I could get surgery. I am filled 7.5 cc in my 10 cc band. I have no restriction and my Dr. does not want to fill my band any more until I lose more weight. I have heard if I try liquids for a week or so it will help me get some restriction back. Does any one know if this is true? If so would it be clear liquids as well as full liquids? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    2 weeks post op

I'm 10 days post op and I'm starving... I'm hoping once I get my first few fills this will subside... Also does anyone with polycystic ovaries still have a hard time losing the weight? That was always my problem and the medication that was given to me for this is also suppose to help lose weight becuz of the insulin resistance but this medication has awful side effects and I hate taking it... Ugh I hope there's light at the end of my tunnel.....

    Post op

I was 242 and am down to 229 and sleeved the same day as you. I am taking in between 50-60 grams of Protein through fairlife milk, nsa carnation instant Breakfast, yogurt, and a little soup. Walking 5 miles per day and can really tell weight loss in my face and waist. I start puréed foods on Tuesday. Dr. won't let me back into the gym for another month. I can't wait to get there!! 6. I had my band surgery in 2 years ago. Not even 2 months after surgery, I transferred from Northern California to Southern California for my job. A month and a half after my move, I found out I was pregnant. Never had a fill and decided not to since I have blood clots and other things to worry about with my pregnancy. My 2nd official day of maternity leave and one day before going into labor, my company sold and 2 months after returning to work, I was laid off. Losing my medical benefits after already having a hard time finding a surgeon willing to take me on since I was hours from my original surgeon, I haven't been able to get a fill. I'm feel like I have started my journey by having my band but haven't used it and feel I'm going no where. I'm making a special trip up north to see my surgeon and HOPEFULLY get my first fill! I'm scared, excited, nervous! I'll be so upset if I can't get a fill. I'm ready to lose some weight! With all of this craziness, I thank God for my beautiful band baby who turned 1 on May 23rd. What a blessing! Wish me luck! Any advice?

    Hello!

I have been thinking about Lap-banding for the past couple of months. A friend of mine had it in October and has had amazing results. Its not been a magic fix for her but with hard work she is making the band work. A little bit about me... I have been overweight since I was 8 years old, but it wasn't until after high school that I put on the most weight. Freshmen 15- uh no I put on 4o#. In the past I have been able to lose weight usually with no problem, but I can never keep it off and I end up gaining it all back plus more. So next week I am starting my journey and going to the seminar. Right now I am about 5# under my insurances requirement of a 40bmi. Should I try to gain the 5# to get the approval? I do not have any comorbidities.
  8. Alexandra

My Insurance letter has been sent.....how many....

What's your BMI currently? If it's over 40 you may not "need" any co-morbidities at all. However, I didn't think I had any either except for borderline high blood pressure, but my PCP's letter had a list of things that would be improved by weight loss. I didn't know I was that sick! Good luck!!
  9. Hi everybody, I am new on this site. I am 55 y.o and need to lose 75 pounds. I have been on a diet all my life since the age of 18 , and my weight increased each time ... well you know the story... I am planning to have the Lap band Surgery but I am not sure if I should follow another diet before (you know the last chance diet). If someone could answer my questions it would help me a lot to take the good decision: 1. With the lap band installed, does that mean that I will need to be on a diet anyway? 800 cal, extra small portions...and will my body react against the privation (compulsive eating, always thinking about food...?) as it happens with a regular diet? 2. Will I suffer from hunger all my life? 3. How do you justify your portions size when you are invited to a dinner and want to keep that operation confidential? 4. After my weight goal achievement, will I be able to eat "normal" food to maintain the weight? Is there any food I must forget forever? Please help me ! I feel undecided and uncomfortable. Yes or no? Don't know what to do! Alliana
  10. Hi, I'm new to this forum and have been busy reading a lot of the different threads. I'm starting down this journey and am a bit nervous but I know I'm doing the right thing. I'm currently waiting through all of the pre-insurance items to be completed before my insurance approval is submitted. Per my carrier, the only requirement is to have a BMI over 40, which I'm at 44.5. I've been overweight every since graduating college. I'm looking forward to eventually getting back down to a reasonable weight, keeping up with my kids, enjoying my hobbies again, and being able to sit in any chair without thinking of how much of my bum is sticking out from the sides :smile2: I decided to go down the lapband route because I felt it was more realistic to have the weight come off slower than RNY patients. Plus, I really was afraid of having such a drastic surgery. Thanks to all who have posted in the past week or so as I'm been eagerly reading thru the threads. I'm an Analyst during the day so I'm big into gathering the info and facts. It makes me feel better about my decision. My family is behind me and supporting me. My mom, well, she says I should try Weight Watchers - which I have - many times - loosing weight and then regaining it again. My friend says the same thing - she doesn't even realize that her words hurt. So, besides 2 other friends who support me, I haven't told anyone else - not even my brother - as I'm just not wanting to have to defend my choice. thanks! Laura

    Looking for Advice with UHC

I called Dr. Chiasson's office just this last week, because I had heard from others about the 6 month supervised diet plan also. I was not told anything about this in the beginning, so I wanted to call and make sure that I had my facts straight. Tracy (Dr. Chiasson's advocate that works with me) once again reassured me that UHC (for MY particular plan does NOT require the 6 month wait, as long as I have a letter from my PCP that I have had a 5 year documented history of morbid obesity. I have had my physicals every year, so I have no problem with that area. I (in the last 3 weeks) have gone through: 1. Labwork 2. Psychiatric visit and clearance 3. Endogastroscopy 4. 2 (yes 2 !!!) sleep studies (I was diagnosed with sleep apnea with the first visit and had to go back for another one...YUK) 5. a visit with my cardiologist (he also wants me to do a nuclear stress test next Wednesday before he will write my clearance letter. 6. a clearance letter from my PCP (with documented weight of the last 5 years) 7. and also on Wednesday, I will be meeting with the nutritionist. So Wednesday, hopefully will be all my appointments needed by UHC. I have just had to make and go to the appointments...the bariatric surgeons office has done the footwork with UHC (cause they know EXACTLY who to ask for and what to ask for). In the past years, (before I knew about VSG) I have tried on my own, and got nowhere and only frustrated to the point of giving up. I feel very fortunate that the 'digging for the criteria' has been done for me this time. I have never gotten this far before, and feel wonderfully excited. Hope this helps you, and hope that things can be easier for you...Prayers are with you.... Pat:001_rolleyes:

    Does this band work!??

Has your doctor ever checked w/ an xray to confirm placement. Sometimes if there is a slip the only symptom people experience is increased appetite and gaining weight. Not to imply this is the problem, but it seems that your band is otherwise intact as there is no apparent leak. Like lulu mentioned, some of us require no fills and others require max fills for that green zone. Unfortunately there are some that the band does not work for at all. For us with effective bands, it's hard to relate, but this is a hard truth. Also, just so everyone knows that the band is an option for lower than 40 BMI or self pay and for other countries. I converse w/ a quite a few foreign bandsters who are in BMI of 30s. I know it's hard for us to wrap our heads around getting the band for a mere <50 lb loss but the band does not only allow us to lose but also to maintain and long term 50lb overweight people struggle with that aspect just as much. Back to topic, I have no idea what your daily menu looks like..maybe you can type one up super quick and it'll give us an idea as to what and how much you are eating.
  16. Have any of you watched the advertised documentary? I found it terribly depressing. I felt it to be sad that several of the young women were trying to convince themselves that being obese was a good thing. Also, so many were having the lap band and my surgeon will not even consider doing the band any more, feeling it did not offer the chance of success that the sleeve and by-pass surgeries provide . I can't pinpoint what else bothered me, but I need to read or watch something light and positive after watching that! Any thoughts???

    back after baby

Congratulations on not gaining anything extra. It will be so much easier to get back on track again. Will you be going in for a fill?

    back after baby

I'm planning on going in for my first fill after the baby on monday so hopefully the weight loss can continue.
  19. I'm 34 weighing in at 252 lbs. I've struggled with my weight my entire life. I've finally had enough, the day I could no longer strap into my favorite roller coaster was the day I started looking into weight loss surgery. I've decided on the gastric sleeve and am currently waiting to schedule my sleep study and attend the mandatory seminar for qualifications for my insurance. This is an amazing place to read information and I'm grateful to you all!!! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using the BariatricPal App
  20. This may have been discussed before but for anyone covered by CIGNA or one of its affiliated companies, they have abandoned their prior formal requirement of a specific duration (e.g. 3 months) in favor of this language: • A statement from a physician/physician’s assistant/nurse practitioner/registered dietician (i.e., other than the requesting surgeon) that the individual has failed previous attempts to achieve and maintain weight loss by medical management. This is the old language: • Medical management including evidence of active participation within the last 12 months in a weight-management program that is supervised either by a physician/physician’s assistant/nurse practitioner or a registered dietician for a minimum of three consecutive months ((i.e., ≥ 89 days). The weight-management program must include monthly documentation of ALL of the following components:  weight  current dietary program  physical activity (e.g., exercise program) Programs such as Weight Watchers®, Jenny Craig® and Optifast® are acceptable alternatives if done in conjunction with the supervision of a physician/physician’s assistant/nurse practitioner or registered dietician and detailed documentation of participation is available for review. However, physician-supervised programs consisting exclusively of pharmacological management are not sufficient to meet this requirement. Anyone covered by CIGNA now and going through a mandatory weight loss program under the old medical policy should request their surgeon/bariatric program to submit their request for approval NOW and not wait to finish the supervised diet. You might get some push-back from crusty bariatric practices or surgeons, but hopefully they will help you. The new policy is more favorable to patients, and because it is the medical policy in effect for anyone having surgery after October 9th, we take the position this is the operative medical policy - NOT the policy at a patient's "starting point". Call us at 1-877-992-7732 if you have questions about this or are in need of any information about what you need to do if you have been denied by your insurer - whether it is CIGNA or any other payer. Good luck to all! CIGNA medical policy effective October 9 2018.pdf

    Looking for Advice with UHC

I have UHC EPO and am in Arizona. I went through my surgeons office (Dr. Chiasson) and they talked directly to the UHC representative and was told that they cover VSG and Lapband. I have started my criteria that was given to me by Dr. Chiasson's office: letter from PCP with 5 years documented weight, and all weight related health issues. Psychiatric evaluation Cardiac evaluation and release letter Nutritional counseling Labwork (blood draws) sleep evaluation (sleep study) Endogastroscopy Yes, I haven't been officially guaranteed that they will pay for MY procedure, but I wasn't led to believe from Dr. Chaisson's office that there would not be any other criteria to be met.... Hope this is true......prayerfully awaiting.....:thumbup1:

    Looking for Advice with UHC

My husbands company just switched to UHC (thank God cause they are one of the few that cover the sleeve) my policy requires 6 months supervised weight loss....the staff of the hospital where I'm having my surgery have UHC and they only have to complete 3 months and some don't have to complete any which I hope is the case for you.....I'm finishing up my 6 months and let me tell you, it's like watching paint dry, seriously!!! Let us know how it works out 4 u....will be praying for favor for you in this process.
  24. I was banded 2/7 and have lost about 30lbs so far. I am supposed to be on protein shakes, broth, non-cal drinks/jello etc. but occasionally I crave something salty. So once in a while I have a thin slice of cheddar that I chew to mush, or (you'll) laugh I go to the fridge with a teaspoon and have a spoonful of mustard or some condiment or sald dressing, just to get the taste. Has not been a problem and I don't think its impacting my weight loss.

    Not feeling full?

My experience is that if I eat correctly (a BIG if) I can stop before full. Correctly means slowly and chewed thoroughly and tiny bites of Protein. Not carbs. Protein. Slow. Chewed well. Tiny. Slow. Chewed well. If I don't eat correctly and I'm eating protein, I get stuck. If I do eat correctly, I can then feel a soft stop. A soft stop is a signal that I've had enough. Eating more would be eating too much. My soft stops are: a sigh or deep breath, burp or a hiccup. Other people report that their nose starts to run. I have had good hunger satiety since surgery. Hungry at mealtime. I haven't felt full in 20 months. I sure don't miss that full feeling. I've eaten too much (always carbs) but not to the point of being full. Eating too much or eating carbs has stopped my weight loss. Removing those from my diet will return me to weight loss. I'm working on it.
