    Couch to 5k.....come join me!!

Luluc... thanks for the suggestion. It did help a bit at lunch today. Sugar... great NSV! I love to hear everyones NSV's. Afterall, it isn't the scale that we did this for... its the real life changes. Glad the fill is working! Whosya... thanks for popping in. Hope the training is going well! Ok, so the strange thing with my fill is that I can eat food (very small amounts) but liquid seems to back up and not pass. For example, I had chicken soup with broccoli. I ate about 1/2 cup of food, and drank some peppermint tea. It all went down, slowly, but it did pass. Dinner I had a small bowl of chili. Then I had some water, and then some tea, and it all came back up... more than an hour later... it just wouldn't pass. This is very strange. Well, I'm out of town for a few days, so will talk to you on Tues. Good luck everyone!
  3. Hello, I sure missed you guys. We went to Richmond Friday evening for a baby shower. Our niece and her husband adopted a baby and they had a huge gathering to show him off. We ended up spending the night at hubby's sisters. We had a good time. Came home and stayed in my jammies all day and in my chair. Just felt a cold coming on and I wanted to fight it off. Today I was wanting to go to the Mall and get some shopping done. I took Abby and that was a mistake. We had a ball but ai couldn't get any shopping done. However I did have a huge NSV. Abby decided that she wanted to ride the huge merry-go-round. Not just ride it but to go up on the second floor and ride the pony up there. I actually had to go up there with her and ride. Yup, that was me up there on the merr-go-round. It was a lot of fun but after awhile I was getting dizzy. We had a wonderful day today and she wore me out. I'm all for the chocoholic trip. Maybe next year we could have the group get-together there. I will just have to not tell my sis I'm going. I just go and then tell her after I get back. LOL. Have a great evening

    Happy 6 Month Bandiversary!!!

my six months isn't until the 23rd. i've lost 39lbs since my surgery day. i'm very happy with the loss that i've had and my MANY NSV's!!!! too may of those to list. in shirts, i've gone from a 3x to a extra large, even at times just a plain ol' large. in my pants/jeans, ive gone from a snug 22 to a getting a bit loose 18. my knees, ankles, and lower back don't hurt anymore. i've hit a bad plateau, but im hoping to be at 215 by NYE...got a fill yesterday, we'll see what happens!!!
  5. I decided to go to the mall and get some new clothes as my last set of new clothes is getting saggy baggy. I was in Macy's (great sale) and found some really cute work and casual clothes in the "regular" women's section. I had to go to another floor to look for pajamas and walked through the plus size section. I teared up when it hit me that I do not have to shop in the plus size department anymore. I tried to explain this to my DH and bless his heart he smiled and said that was great but I don't think he got it. Just wanted to share my little NSV with people who would understand.

    N.S.V = size 16 jeans!!!!!!

That's brilliant Ann. Well done. You see, success isn't just a number on a scale, it's all those NSVs that come along as well. Just flaunt it now!!

    NSV for ME!

My husband and I went to TGI Friday's for lunch today...and not only did I eat something healthy (chicken and broccoli, and only ate ONE piece of chicken and brought the other one home for dinner) but I resisted having a bite of dessert my husband ordered. Yea, I feel good. Also, I did 35 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of weight training bright and early this morning! Good band day! :rolleyes2:

    Share your NSVs!

What? No NSVs since August??? I know we've had some - come on and share, guys! It helps to keep me motivated, too! But here's MINE for today. I went shopping at Target for some new jeans because mine are hanging off my butt (14s). I thought I'd put on some 12s and have them be tight, but at least I'd be a 12. I put them on REALLY easily. It was strange because I thought, "These seem a little loose - they're not going to last me very long. Maybe I'll just get 10s instead so that I'm not wasting money." So I grabbed some 10s and tried them on, thinking I'd be struggling and sucking in and pulling really hard. OMG...NO...the things went on really easy. Buttoned and very comfortable! I'm a freaking 10! I'm almost positive I was not a 10 this early in the game the last time I lost weight down to this size!!! So then I thought it had to just be the designer of the jeans - fudging me on the size to make people feel better. So I went over and grabbed some 30s in men's (I wear men's pants for work) because I need some new work pants. They went on, too! They were a little bit more snug in the butt than the women's jeans were. I guess, because we all know, men don't have booties. LOL But I bet by next weekend I'll be proudly sporting my 30's to work! OMG...either clothes have gotten bigger, or my body is proportioned a lot differently than it was when I was 17. I SWEAR I did not get into 10's until I was in the 150's. And I KNOW I'm still in the 170's. I'm just so excited. :rolleyes2: I'm REALLY starting to feel skinny again. I love it. I'm so excited to get to wear my jeans somewhere. Funny thing is, I bet by the time I go out to see my family in December, I might have to go buy some 8's!!

    OCT 29th anyone?

Whoohooo! Congrats on the NSV (Non Scale Victory)! I have had people tell me they could see a difference already also. It feels good. Well off to go walk before it starts to rain. Hope everyone is doing good today.

    Getting motivated....

Kick in the pants time. You should look to change your lifestyle, not just what you eat. That includes exercise. Sometimes, I don't feel like exercising, but I just grind it out, because I want to get fitter bad enough. How much do you want it? How determined are you? How much support do you get from your family and friends? Don't see exercise as a chore, but part of your normal activity. It's fun, and as you get better at it, the more fun it is. How much are you doing? Start small and slowly build up. I started with a minute a day. Look to NSVs to reinforce your progress. It's remarkable how much effect doing up your belt one more notch can have on your confidence. Come on, you can do this. Every minute you do is money in the bank.

    First Fill

So I FINALLY got my first fill on 10/21. It took forever because I switched aftercare docs cuz I moved, and went to see my sister for 2 weeks. I was a bit upset at my weigh in cuz I was 5lbs up, but I had been at my sisters and eating what they cooked. But then my nutritionist asked if I had been working out. Well I had been doing a LOT of walking while on vacation. She said she could tell because my muscle was way up, and fat down. I told her I seemed to drop a size in clothes and she explained that was why. Even thou the scale said I weighed more, it was because of the muscle gain somewhat. She said it was typical that some ppl will gain a bit before a fill after healing up too. So that made me feel MUCH BETTER! Another NSV! Last night I bought some size 24 pants from Avenue. I was estatic when I put them on and they fit even a bit loose. I had gotten up to 26 and even had a couple 28's! WOOHOO>>>it's working, it's working! Well I got my fill and like everyone says, it doesn't hurt. I was nervous cuz I'm not the best with needles, and my new doc does adjustments w/ fluroscopy. It was no biggie at all, they put in too much at first, and by drinking the barrium we could see it wasn't draining past the band at all. So the took out .5cc and it was perfect! I only got 1.5cc, but it's working. It's been about 2 weeks and I'm down 10lbs. I'm not eating super clean either. Pretty Protein heavy, but still having some carbs here and there. But I'm eating WAY cleaner than I used to. My mom and I were talking about it, and figured I'm not getting 300-1000 calories a day just from sodas. I used to drink A LOT of coke, so I'm sure that's helping quite a bit. Anyway...things are going great! I'm eating sooooo much less than I was. The other night I had 6-8 small shrimp and some salad was was stuffed! That still just amazes me! Hope everyone else is making good progress too! I'm down a total of 26lbs. I feel like I'm making good progress, not sure how I'm doing compared to others. But I have hypothyroid and PCOS which both work against me, so just losing something is AWESOME to me! I can't remember the last time I was able to drop weight and keep it off.

I hate it when people post just to post.....

PJTP...I'm positively THRILLED with the outcome of the election! I've missed y'all - application processing has had me flat out and no time to visit LBT  I got a call from my PCP that my iron is low (28 versus his desired 32-34) and they might postpone my surgery  Now taking extra iron pills in an attempt to get my numbers up prior to surgery... NSV - all my pants are getting too big because of my walking, gym workouts and eating better. Now I just need my band...send good thoughts / prayers my way that I'll still get my band on the 17th!:w00t:

    UMass Medical Center Bandsters

Hello again Amanda, I understand how you feel (REALLY). However, the nutritionist, etc. are all appointments which are scheduled through UMASS and the order in which it all takes place is concrete. You meet with Dr. Gitkind then all of the other appointments are set in place. There is no deviation with that. What I would suggest is that you simply begin your improved eating. You know the basics, they just enhance all of that and put the WHY our weight issues are there in clearer forcus. The more good habits you can get into (i.e. exercise and eating), the easier all of the rest will be. Now that I am at the stage I am it is unreal how quickly it is going by. I to in August thought - six months! But now I see how it goes by. If you can begin getting those habits in check, it will aid you greatly. I know that from the time you meet with Dr. Gitkind until the schduling of your surgery, they do require a pattern of some kind of weight loss. From the time that I first went to UMASS until I met with Dr. Gitkind I lost 13 pounds, BUT since that time, nothing. So, I am actually behind in what they like to see. Hopefully, when I go today for my first weigh-in in the skills group phase (last Wed. was my start), I will be down a few pounds. That would make me really happy since I have become a bit frustrated at the scale. I have also done what the nutritionist suggested and been cognizant of NSVs (non-scale victories). For instance, how my clothes fit, my added stamina, etc. I know I have lost inches and other people have noticed. My husband has made several comments about it. I had him measure me and will have him do so again on Friday. So, just hang in there. REMEMBER: NOTHING CAN OR SHOULD ECLIPSE YOUR WEDDING PREPARATIONS. While it can be stressful, it is the most wonderful time. Your surgery plans and goals are about you and your future life and health. Not just about your wedding day. Talk to you again soon. I will let you know how I make out at today's weigh-in.

    Happy 6 Month Bandiversary!!!

Shelly, Thanks for the post... you're doing great! I've learned that I am totally worth it and it feels good to do this. It has been life-changing, not only for myself, but for my family. My 2 teenagers are now actively exercising daily with me and I hope this will be a habit they will carry with them through adulthood -- thereby (I hope) keeping them from traveling the road that got me here. I love all the NSVs that I have gained from the loss -- the ones I can mention: 5 clothes sizes down, outrunning my kids, being able to reach my derriere ; the others, well, use your imagination! Most of all, I love the self-confidence this has given me. I CAN do it, I AM worth it and I will ALWAYS be grateful for my band.

    NSV (Non Scale Victory!!!)

These NSV victories are the best! I have started a pile in my close and I called it the too big. Nothing feels better than to put something on and have to change because it is too baggie!!!! I am not use to that ... it use to be because it is too tight! Way to go everyone I love to see and read everyone's success. Definately makes you feel at home. Have a great weekend!

    Fenton vs. PRCowboy Challenge

I was banded July 29th, so it has been right around 3 months. I am wearing clothes that I had refused to throw away years ago that now fit so that is a big NSV for me and I can actually use a belt now. I often wear shorts, those strechy cotton slip on things that are so comfortable, most of them fall off now and I have had to buy new ones, even wear them in the winter whenever I work nights and can wear whatever I want to. Down to about 20degrees out I wear them while hiking also. In fact heading out now for my weekend jaunt with the dogs, will weigh in the end of this week, good luck to us all----

    Fenton vs. PRCowboy Challenge

I have those moments where I don't lose (usually weeks) as well bigrick. In fact, I gained a pound this week - even though I ate well and exercised regularly. Like you, I'm not giving up and at this point, I don't let it bother me. Slow and steady is fine with me. I'm really starting to enjoy the NSV's at this point as well - I donated a large bag of clothes to my church that don't even come close to fitting anymore !!

    Calling all April Bandsters!!!!

Hey guys! Hope you are having a wonderful Halloween Friday! I have an NSV and wanted to share. I had a great run today and I finished my 5K in 38:30. I've improved by about 6 1/2 minutes in 6 weeks. Not bad! I know I could do a lot better because I made that time doing my jog/sprint routine. If only I would push myself everyday to do better! Anyway, I'm happy with it for now! I'm going to shower and go find a face painting kit for myself for tonight. I'm feeling flashy today, so I think I'll go with something glittery! Have fun everyone and be safe!!!

Trick or Treat!!! I think the Trick has been on me.

Here it is almost 3 months out and I haven't lost any weight since coming home from the surgery... So today I sit and wonder if the trick isn't really on me.:mad2: I have been walking and trying to watch what I eat and have been concentrationg on how I chew and make sure to never drink during meals. It is very frustrating to not see the scale move and not have any NSV. The worst part of it all is when people ask how much weight I have lost. I go in for my 3rd fill on 11/7/08 and I am hoping to feel some restriction. I really would be happy with at least loosing 1 pound a week. I guess I should be happy about not gaining, but I can't help but being frustrated. My first fill was on 9/12/08 for 3.4cc's( I have a 10 cc standard band), my 2nd fill was 2cc's for a total of 5.4cc's. I am trying to stay positive as the nurse stated that most people start to really see results with 6-8cc's. I hope I am almost there!!! I hope this is the last Halloween I have to feel like a stuffed pumpkin. Happy Halloween to All!
