  1. Hello everyone, I’m a little more than 3 years post VGS. I lost 125 pounds. Went from a size 24 to size 6 and have managed to maintain within a 5-8 pound window for the past 2 years. I’m a health care worker, so needless to say I’ve been a bit busy for the last 2 years. I’ve managed to save up for the plastics I want since my VGS ( 2 straight years of all the overtime I could work helped) and I’m now about 6 weeks away from the magic date. Me and my PS have decided on a TT with flank lipo, and a thigh lift. I’m a bit nervous about doing all of this at once, but I’ve only got one shot at getting the time off of work so it all has to be one surgery. I’m 5’7”, about 142-147, size 6-8 and in relatively good shape for a 53yo. Anyone else with my size range do this ? I’d love some tips and pointers. Oh yeah, because I can never do anything the “easy way” I will be in a walking boot due to some foot surgery I will be having 3 weeks prior to the plastics. The foot surgery is the only reason I will be able to be off work so it has to piggy-back off of that.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Hello February 2019 peeps! I’m doing okay. Gained 15 back from my all-time low, but maintaining within a 5-ish pound window now for about the last 15 months. Some days I wonder if I should try to get back into the 130’s ( I dropped all the way down to 133 at one point) but I’m hanging in the upper 140’s and feel like this is maintainable. For me, 2022 has been dubbed “The Year of the Foot” as I’ve already had one bunionectomy and will be having my left foot done next month. I was very happy to only gain 2 pounds in the 7 weeks I laid on my butt all day long with foot elevated. So here is me at 147 at my daughters wedding reception on March 5th. I was rocking a size small dress and- of course- my walking boot. I’m super excited to say that on May 10th I will be having plastics!! I’ve saved up and will be having a TT with flank lipo and a thigh lift. We are going to piggy-back it 3 weeks after foot surgery so I can minimize my time off work. Hope everyone is well. I miss you guys.

Congrats on having a surgery date. I have to do next week's stress test, and then hopefully I will have a date. Hoping for 4/11-ish. This entire process should count as one.big.stress.test! 🤒

    Any pre op smokers

I did not smoke immediately pre op but I was a past smoker. I just wanted to say that if you do want to quit and are able to quit for a couple of weeks for the surgery it gets much easier to choose to remain that way. You have to want to do it but if you do, don’t sell yourself short just because it’s hard in the beginning. For me it got easier every day I went without.

Did you lose your tummy fat last?

A few things: 1. You are about six weeks out of surgery. At six weeks, I had lost some weight and a few people noticed, but not many. I had lost about 10% of my starting body weight at six weeks (according to your sidebar, you've lost close to 15%). I am at the seven month mark and I am finally around the point where random co-workers have really noticed my weight loss. Keep it up and the before and after photos will come (my before/after looks pretty shocking). 2. Even though I have a shocking before/after, I still don't see it in the mirror. Really. Truly. If I went solely off the mirror, I would say that my face looks a little thinner, but not much else. I didn't understand how a non-insane person could have body dysmorphia until I had this surgery. I have way more sympathy for people who are anorexic after this experience.

    3 years post op

Hi, I just had surgery 2 weeks ago, so I don't have the best advice for you. But I do think you'd probably benefit from using the If It Fits Your Macros calculator to determine your protein, carb, and fat goals. https://www.iifym.com/macro-calculator/

Did you lose your tummy fat last?

Thanks and congratulations on your progress, I am sure you still looked cute in your big suit. I may be too focused on the before and after pictures and videos that I see online. The differences are so obvious and I start dreaming but then I see myself and ... oh!! sad reality!. I must be patient and hope that all this discomfort pays up some day. I do not complain I have never lost 35 pounds in 6 weeks before and I tried a lot harder than this.

    food addict I'm not sure

I think we have seen a number of posts from you in the past couple weeks that indicate you are really struggling with some mental/emotional issues that need to be addressed if you are going to be successful in your weight loss journey. The struggle is not only having the surgery and the weight loss begins but the mental aspect of it. You have to be mentally committed to getting it done and be able to resist temptation. In addition to the eating portion in a physical sense, if you are not mentally OK with your life and your situation, you are not going to be successful. I urge you to get some counselling ASAP if you are going to go on this weight loss journey.

What products did you buy for your 3 week liquid diet? Any you like the best?
  12. Good morning I had my surgery on the 18 th yesterday I thought I was hungry because stomach was gurgling but I had a few sips of coconut water and I went for a little walk and I was fine . I thought I’d be dragging butt but I have energy I’ve basically been living off those premier protein shakes zero fat yogurt zero fat ice pops and water and my energy level feels better then it ever did . I’m looking forward to being able to start purée in about 2 weeks I purchased a purée cookbook and after reading through it the thought of purée foods was no longer that bad I wish everyone the best of luck keep your goals in front of your face read each morning and remover Why your doing all this to ourselves and positive thinking is the strongest tool we could have . God bless check in later

    Lactose Intolerant

I’m 4 weeks post op, I’m hoping it’s just my tummy being stubborn and it will mellow out once my nerves calm down. I was also thinking that maybe my gut bacteria is out of wack too but not sure if I would be able to drink Yakult or some other probiotics (I can’t do Kefir) I did pick up some Fairlife milk. My main concern is I’m not getting the required protein in per day but my water intake has gotten to be more each time.

    food addict I'm not sure

I came to the conclusion that I am a food addict after reading several books These books also tell one how to deal with the addiction. Boiled down to the basics: one must avoid trigger foods just as an alcoholic must abstain from alcohol. The usual trigger foods are are sugar, flour. white potatoes, rice, and processed food. "Processed food" is anything in a bag or box in the center aisles of the supermarket. Shop the exterior aisles where one finds fresh produce, meats, poultry, dairy, and frozen vegetables. There is a withdrawal period that is uncomfortable, but after a couple of weeks the cravings for the trigger foods diminish. Unless one of the trigger foods is sitting right In front of me, I no longer have difficulty avoiding them. I have lost 93 lbs by cutting out these things, 70 lbs prior to RNy revision surgery and another 23 lbs to date post surgery, I recommend these books Food Junkies: Recovery from Food Addiction by Vera Tarman Weight Loss Surgery Does Not Treat Food Addiction by Connie Stapleton Why Diets Fail (Because you're Addicted to Sugar) by Nicole Avena & John Talbott
  15. I'm 4 weeks out, have lost 15 pounds, now stalled. I know I need to believe in the process and stalls happen. All I can do is stick with the plan and wait it out. I've had hunger off and on since second week. It surprised me, as I thought the first 6-12 months people didn't get hungry. My surgery says its normal, some people experience no hunger, others fight it. I find when I feel this way, I try water first, then Bouillion Cube, sugar free popsicles (but these have carbs, be careful!) If I'm still hungry I have 1/2 shake or 1/4 - 1/2 cup of chicken and vegetables, which does the job. Good luck everyone!

    Stalled for 3 Weeks

Absolutely normal, sounds like a stall and should be over soon. 🤗
  17. I’m 7 almost 8 weeks post op down 55lbs and into 38 size pants and 2xl shirts are just a hair to big. I have the same dilemma but I will start donating once I start buying new clothes to replace the old. Problem is I’m not done losing yet so I don’t want to have to buy new then buy new again!! So the baggy fit it is for another couple of months!!!!!

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

I had my revision to bypass 3 weeks ago. I've been cleared to eat soft foods but can eat only very small amounts at a time and things like ground beef and tuna are not agreeing with me at all. I did discover last night that about 2 oz of deli meat agrees with me as long as I don't try to eat or drink anything else for about an hour after. My favorite thing so far has been refried beans with taco sauce and a bit of melted shredded cheese. I'm getting most of my protein from drinking Fairlife skim milk. I'm down almost 14 pounds which blows my mind because it took me almost 2 months to lose that when I had my sleeve 7 years ago. I didn't do this for weight loss but it's been a welcomed bonus. No more heart burn or reflux either. Sent from my Z5157V using BariatricPal mobile app

Did you lose your tummy fat last?

Well this is a bummer to hear about. My belly is where I started carrying most of my weight when I turned 50. I would pay money to lose my belly weight first! It makes me look pregnant. Ugh, this is not encouraging news. I wonder if we can do AB crunches and other abdominal workouts after surgery. This is probably a good question for my exercise physiologist who I will see two weeks after my surgery.

    psych eval

That is bullshit that you have to find a psychologist on your own! My bariatric center has a therapist that they use and he knows how urgent it is to schedule within a short amount of time. I saw him three days after my consultation. I am frustrated for you because this is putting a wrench in your progress.

    Binge eating

It took me two years of outpatient treatment to overcome my binge eating disorder (BED). Intense weekly therapy called EMDR, a BED support group once a week, and meeting with a dietitian once a week. Sometimes it felt like a job because I spent so much time at the treatment center, but that’s what it takes. It is a serious disorder and something that you cannot cure on your own. I encourage you to look into treatment or at least see a therapist who specializes in BED. YOU CAN DO THIS!

Anxiety about calories in pureed food

im so glad to meet you. I have fear of calories from day one. i am 20 weeks post op and my fear keeps me under 600 cals this day. i told my dietician i cant make my numbers cause i am terrified of weight regain. Today i had one scrambled egg and two bites of mashed red beans and im done for the day. if im hungry i ignore it or drink water till it goes away. im crazy obsessing over failure. Plus i had family members tell me before surgery i would fail. And im gonna show them, not me, this is where my problem comes from. Sent from my SM-G973U using BariatricPal mobile app

Anxiety about calories in pureed food

My goodness, I think I would've gnawed my hand off if they had asked me to eat 500-800 cals as purées for 4 weeks Seriously, if you get hungry, call them and ask for alternative guidance.

Anxiety about calories in pureed food

I just had my video appointment follow-up with my dietician. She said I should be aiming for 500-800 calories during puree phase - which lasts 4 weeks for me.
