  1. Sw:275 Cw: 185 I'm eating very healthy foods..no carbonation, no alcohol, veggies, minimal meat. Im.not losing weight nearly at the rate I was. I do have a larger apetite but it's still pretty small. My question is if I go to absolutely no carbs do you think I could lost it faster? Is it normal for weight loss to be slower at 7 months?? Thanks for your responses!! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using the BariatricPal App

    Drinking?!?

I still have my vodka and juice, I have just substituted the sugarery juices with Crystal Light. This way my calories are limited to the alcohol only. I also have not noticed it affecting me anymore than wtihout the band.

    Drinking?!?

In my support group last week alcoholism was brought up; evidently a lot of successful bandsters become heavy drinkers. This has to do with addicitive behaviors. That surprised me but it makes sense.
  4. Hey everyone. I have a quick question that I have not been able to get a clear yes or no from anyone... I know that drinking alcohol is waasted calories and wasted room once banded, but I was just wondering if I will ever be able to go out and a drink with my friends ever again? I am very serious about this procedure so please don't think that I am not. I just am curious if I will be able to have a drink at my wedding one day you know? Cassie :confused2::cool2::smile2::w00t:

    Drinking?!?

I have drank several time. lol I try to stick to drinking clear liqour like Diabetics. I am from San Diego, lol where they know how to party. I usually get some kind of fruit juice and make one drink. That usually lasts me the whole night and keeps me on a nice straight buzz. I would not try to chance it with beer though. NO SHOTS either. Oh my gosh no shots. I took one once and when i burped some alcohol came back up with it and I was throwing up so bad. Everyone else is right, it hits you harder and much faster. Good luck

    Alcohol

I don't drink beer (no carbonation). I don't tolerate red wine anymore. Liquor gives me ferocious heartburn. Postop all I can have is white wine. However, alcohol has plenty of carbs and I am on carb restriction for life so I have to budget my carbs if I'm going to have wine.
  7. My husband has this and when he is overly tired or had lots to drink (alcohol) it makes it worse.
  8. I have a question... how long did everyone wait before they had their first alcoholic drink after the band and what do you ya'll prefer to drink? I think more than food I am missing a nice ice cold beer... ahh I know I won't be having that again, so I am wondering what everyone else now drinks.

    6 months post op

Thanks. It's been such a good journey. I'm in work today but did finally splash out on clothes last weekend. Felt so good!!! Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App What all have you done with your sleeve to help lose? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using the BariatricPal App Tbh I've just followed my food plan to the letter. I keep my calories under 1000 a day but I don't count carbs or Protein. I just have a varied diet. I still eat small portions and eat until I'm satisfied rather than full. I get around 2.5 litres of Fluid a day. I lost my sweet tooth and have had no alcohol. I admit I haven't yet done any exercise apart from walks with my dogs. I plan to start soon as I know the weight loss will slow down from now. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App

My surgeon says alcohol is not allowed at the 15 day mark. Your stomach is healing plus it's empty calories. Ask your doctor and your NUT
  12. Wow ... Do I really want to get married? Do I really want to get divorced? Do I really want to spend $XX thousand dollars on a new home? These and many more life altering decisions can ultimately only be answered by yourself. I think it is very unfair to yourself to put it out on an internet forum like this. Now, I understand the need to just put it out there so you can read it to help you mull it over, but take everyone's response with a grain of salt. I needed to take responsibility for my morbidly obese life and I had to make the decision to make a fundamental change with my relationship with food. I turned to the sleeve to get help to do this. I made this decision. At some point in this journey, it has been my experience from reading the boards for 3 years, that almost everyone at some point has the, "OMG, WTF did I just do to my body! This is an irreversible procedure and my life is RUINED!!" The quickest way for me to get out of this stinking thinking was to remember that this was MY decision to make a change in my life and I was committed to see this through. If a person has the ability to blame someone or something else for their predicament, then I believe it will be even more so to climb out of the abyss of self-pity. Only you know your history. Only you know your demons as it relates to whether or not you abused food. Don't let anyone else make this decision for you. Talk to your doctors and even a therapist if you are struggling with this decision. Guess what answer an alcoholic would receive if they walked into a bar and asked if they should have a drink? You'll get the same kind of answers here. Of course we all think VSG is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but we all have arrived at this decision on our own, and so must you. Good luck. Keep reading and asking questions. PM me if you have a direct question.

    Alcohol

I abstained for about 9 months (my 6 month pre-op diet program and 3 months post-op). Now, I have some red wine or whiskey and Water occasionally. It hasn't hampered my progress in the least bit. I talked with my NP about it before I had any alcohol. On days where I know I will have drinks, I usually have Protein shakes to meet my protein goal while keeping the calories low to accommodate the alcohol. I don't like not eating, so I don't do this often. Right now, we are in the middle of carnival in New Orleans, so I'm having a little more, but I've still lost half a pound since Thursday, so everything is going as it should. Good luck!

    Alcohol

I didn't wait as long as a probably should have. Maybe 2-3 months. I usually do vodka and water or rum and water. I'm at a point where I can have a beer if I take it kind of slow, but it doesn't really sit right and I don't enjoy it anyway. It's odd to me, but I don't feel any more sensitive to alcohol now than I did before surgery. It doesn't hit faster or last longer. Maybe it balanced out because I don't mix it with caffeine anymore. I don't know.
  15. I am 2 years post-op on RNY. I asked the question to my nutritionist "Why do people lose a lot of weight after surgery only to gain it back?" She said it is because they graze (snack). So I guess if I was going to give some advice to someone who is 7 years post-op, it would be 1) continue to follow the Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements of the program. 2) If you are going to graze, graze on protein and fats. Fats have the ability to stop hunger. Stay away from carb Snacks. Also stay away from processed sugars. I use imitation sweeteners like Splenda, low calorie natural sugars like Stevia and natural sugars (fruits and milk). When it comes to snacks I rely on Adkin's treats (sugar alcohol). I also make my own whipping cream using Splenda and place a heaping spoon of it on a cup of coffee each day. Its is a good way to add a little fat to my diet. I have lost 110 pounds and my weight has been very stable. In meals, keep a good balance between protein, carbs and fats.

Marchin into the holidays: Dec 08

Did yoi do better today, Jeni?? My day today was good. Tomorrow will be TOUGH!!! I have to take a client to lunch (I dont like eating out because I cant control my calories well) and I have happy hour with the team in the evening. My challenge for tomorrow is: a) Stay within 1500 calories by checking the calories of the food at the restaurants in Advance :cursing: Dont drink Alcohol at Happy Hour c) Work out - Tae Kwondo - I know, LOFTY goals - wish me luck!!!!!!!!!!!!1
  17. That does suck - it seems like my worst acid issues were in the 2-4 month timeframe. Make sure you are eating only very small meals, maybe 5 to 6 times a day. Cut out anything that might upset your stomach - for example I literally can't eat bread without a bubbling cauldron happening after, so I don't eat it anymore. Cut back on coffee, alcohol, juice, anything acidic that may be making it worse. I hope you find some relief soon! BTW - omeprazole should be sufficient, but there are lots of different variations that could be more affective. I took Zegerid for a while and it helped and then switched back to the regular omeprazole. Good luck--

    Therapy is a good thing!

totally get this fear… lots of alcoholism in my family. i have always been cautious with alcohol because of that but realized and that my weight came from using food to mask sadness, depression and anxiety… just another addiction! so important to do the emotional work. half the battle is acknowledging it… great for you in getting a therapist to help you work it out.

    Alcohol

I've had three glasses of wine ( on three separate occasions) since surgery. I am in the losing phase and want to keep losing so I have limited my alcohol. I would be very careful of how many drinks at one time, as someone pointed out you do not want to vomit and fewer drinks will get to you much quicker. I will be on going on a vacation soon and I plan to "enjoy" but in a limted way. Remember it's not just extra calories from the alcohol but also extra food on vacation.

    At The Casino!

No, you should not have a cocktail. Why would you take in calories through liquid. Besides, alcohol and gambling Is a bad combination!

    At The Casino!

You have been banded a month. Why would you sabatoge all the work you have done this month? Besides the fact that alcohol has no redeeming nutritional value...it has empty calories, why not save it for when you reach a mini goal in a few months? I made my goal 100 lbs which was about half way. It was good but honestly... Not worth the calories. Now that I am almost to goal I will be a lot less strict with myself but still find I don't want to waste the calories.... this from a girl that enjoyed happy hour a few times a week with friends and family.... Not a drunk by any means but it wasn't uncommon to have 2 cocktails 3x a week in social situations. Now I just order Water with a twist or a glass of wine and sip it for 2 hrs.

    Alcohol When?

Every doctor is different. The general rule of thumb is no less then 3 months, to allow the stomach to heal properly. Beyond that, every doctor is different. Some say 6 months, some say a year, and some say never. There's a lot of reasons for this. Alcohol is absorbed differently after surgery - you get drunk faster on less alcohol. In fact, it's more than double the rate of someone without surgery. So, it can be dangerous to drink. Alcohol won't fill you up, and only provides empty calories. There's also a chance that you could transfer a food addiction to an alcohol addiction - very bad. Most doctors, however, will clear you in that 6-12 month window for no more than 2 standard bar size drinks per day, and aim for only drinking on special occasions.
  25. Thank yall so much for the encouraging words! It makes me feel so much better about everything. Are yall able to drink carbonated drinks as well? What about alcohol? My doctor will not do a fill until 40-50 lbs are lost. I've lost a total of 20lbs already. Have yall tried bread or meat yet? I have no problem with chicken...
