Chili Avocado Turkey meatballs with ricotta cheese If I want something sweet I take Yoplait greek whipped yogurt and pop it in the freezer. It's heavenly but not for all the time as the sugar is a little high. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk -
Any shift workers, how do you schedule your meals?
meganliz0824 replied to ididit34's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used to work this shift and my eating times were 1:00 when I woke up. Then 6ish when I got lunch at work. Then when I got home I would eat something small like greek yogurt or string cheese or a couple turkey meatballs. Since you're staying up so late I would eat when you got home then maybe a small snack before you go to bed. Make sure you get in protien. Maybe take a shake to work and sip on that throughout the shift. Also stay hydrated as well. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk -
Low BMI slow losing encouragement welcome!
Clementine Sky replied to itstimealready's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As of this week it's been five months since my surgery, and I've lost just under 50 pounds. I've gone from squeezing into a size 14 to comfortably wearing an 8 or a 10, so I am pleased though I'd definitely still like to lose some more. My weight loss has been comparatively slow and not very steady. I was twice sick for around three weeks, and believe that contributed to my weight loss halting for those time periods. As many on here have written, the seeming paradox of not eating enough calories leading to a stall or slower weight loss has been very true for me. I lost no weight when I was sick, despite only being able to take in under 600 calories or thereabouts. Even when I was feeling healthy, MyFitnessPal informed me every day that I wasn't consuming enough calories for healthy weight loss. By the holidays my appetite had become more robust, though still unquestionably restricted, and I also wasn't being as diligent about what I was eating. I actually lost five pounds, even with daily frozen yogurt treats I enjoyed with visiting relatives (always a small size, but nevertheless), and other little indulges. I haven't gained those pounds back. This month I've tried to be more mindful about getting in more calories, but healthier ones, because I see more progress on the scale when I've gotten at least 1000. My weight has fluctuated, with a couple more pounds being lost and then being gained again. I have PCOS and this has been the pattern for me for years, though it was far more dramatic than just a couple of pounds. I haven't exercised as much as I'd resolved to yet, so that's something I'm definitely going to try to work on. -
How about dairy? You can try Greek yogurt and if mix Protein powder with it, you can up the protein. I also eat a lot of cheese. How about eggs? If you can stomach those (some can't), maybe try scrambled or hard boiled? For jerky, try the Krave brand. it is very tender and easier to tolerate.

Oh there's a whole thread on it been very active recently... If you search you will get better info, but basically--- I scoop Protein powder (one that has egg albumen as part of the protein works best like Syntrax Matrix) 1/4 tsp baking powder liquid to make the consistency of thick concrete Microwave in mug for about 45 sec I am at goal so I like to add about 1/3 of a ripe banana for most of the moisture... Or 2T pumpkin purée (not the pie mix, just straight pumpkin) plus pie spice and vanilla... Or applesauce and cinnamon... And I use fairlife milk but lots of options are discussed on the thread. SF whip cream or plain fage 0% Greek yogurt on top is awesome! Yes chili! Def a comfort food for me too -

I recently discovered ProYo where I shop. It's a high protein frozen yogurt pushup treat. They're too high in sugar to have every day but they are a great occasional treat. -
Yes what @@cindyw41 said. Limit yourself to eating no more than 30 minutes. (I did 20 minutes in the beginning but as I could eat more, I went to 30.) Sometimes (even still at 7 1/2 months post-op), I feel some fullness after only a few bites but it is nowhere near enough for me to get enough nutrition and if I wait about 5 minutes, that feeling goes away and then I can continue - just not more than 30 minutes! I could not eat a whole yogurt or pudding in the beginning. I would portion out half of the yogurt and add 1/2 a scoop of vanilla Protein powder (or 1/2 scoop of chocolate Protein Powder to the chocolate pudding). It makes it kind of runny, but it got more protein in and tasted pretty good.

How about a taco Soup? I brown lean ground beef in a pan and add taco seasoning. Then dump the meat in a CrockPot with a can of corn, can of Rotel Tomatoes, can of pinto Beans, can of chicken broth and a package of dry Ranch Dressing Seasoning mix. Alternatively, I have used shredded rotisserie chicken and just added the taco seasoning to the soup. And another suggestion is Skinny Buffalo Chicken Dip. (I don't remember all the ingredients but I can find it if you want it.) it is shredded rotisserie chicken, greek yogurt, low fat cream cheese, Franks Red Hot, lite Mozzarella cheese and package of dry Ranch Dressing Seasoning Mix. You can serve it as a casserole or a dip. With a dip, you can take cut up veggies and some tortilla chips or crackers. My last suggestion would be just a big pot of Pinto Beans (or your other favorite). Take cut up onions and jalapenos to add. (Can you tell I am from Texas? ) Good luck!

How much is enough
on the fence 2 replied to Tweety40's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
take it slow. i was also able to eat a whole chobani yogurt or an entire italian ice. once i started on purees like a crushed meatball with sauce you will definetly know what full is. some early signs are pressure possibly hiccups.reading in this forum it seems like there are alot of different feelings to what full is. i will tell you this chicken breast for me was a killer. i felt like a had a golf ball stuck in my chest not a pleasant feeling. its strange some things are no problem at all and then others seem to be troublesome. i just have to remind myself take small bites and eat slow, that seems to be the key. its hard when i have always been a fast eater. -
I am 4 weeks post op today and one of those little sugar free puddings is too much. I can't eat an entire yogurt either. I did eat an entire pudding one time and felt like crap afterwards, so I didn't do that again. When I try something new I always go slow and steady and watch my portion. My eyes are always bigger than my stomach...

For Those at Least 8 Weeks Out - How Much Food is Your Sleeve Holding?
Emilie.Lancaster replied to Pea523's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in week 7 and I have about 800 calories per day and 80 grams of protein. Today I ate a yogurt, a half cup of school baked beans, a protein bar (zone perfects melt in the mouth as you eat them. I eat half, then the other half) sashimi and some spinach Souffle with nutritional yeast. I'm short a bit for protein today. May sip some isopure here in a bit. I can get about an egg sized amount of food in me in the morning, and maybe a 1/2 cup at lunch. The beans today I know we're only a half cup scoop. I ate that whole thing and was full. I think my stomach is swollen still. It ebbs and flows, some days are better than others. -

For Those at Least 8 Weeks Out - How Much Food is Your Sleeve Holding?
cbrr replied to Pea523's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 9 weeks out and I'm eating a Protein shake with a banana blended in for breakfast, about a 1/3cup of some kind of protein for lunch, and the same for dinner. I'll usually have an 80 cal yogurt for a snack or maybe some pieces of cheese. I've just started trying to get in some veggies like green Beans or broccoli. I also put some cheese on top of my chicken or whatever to add more protein. I have some low fat swiss that's carb free and only 50 cals. Something else I've been doing is broth with powdered Gelatin in it. That's 10 more grams of protein and 50cals. What I'm wondering is....how many calories were people consuming at this point out? I average about 780/day. I also am not losing weight. I went up a pound last week then finally lost that today but it's been stalled at 243 for about 1 1/2 week. Argggh! Also, sorry to post this in here but I haven't figured out how to start a thread and ask these questions. -
Travel a few months following surgery
Dawn306 replied to CanadaLoser's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You should be fine. As long as you can find yogurt, you will have something to eat. And make sure you take your Protein shake powders with you. I have travelled with my shake powders and snack bars, and had no problem at customs. At the airport, they wanted to open my shake powder container and they put their "sniffer" in there to make sure it was what I said it was. Other than that - no problems whatsoever. -
What can I do with...Avocado?
Miss Mac replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
Avocado - chocolate Mousse from Rachel Ray http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/giada-de-laurentiis/chocolate-avocado-mousse-recipe.html OK, don't laugh. I tried this and wish that I had known about this in my puree-soft stages. What I did differently: Used artificial sweetener instead of agave, cocoa powder instead of chocolate chips, a scoop of chocolate Protein powder, and I added some plain Greek Yogurt to keep it smooth after adding the Protein Powder. I did not have any raspberries, so I ate it like a parfait layered with lite whip cream. I just threw it together from what was on hand. You could serve this to your unsupportive friends and family, and they would NEVER know the difference if you did not tell them -
For Those at Least 8 Weeks Out - How Much Food is Your Sleeve Holding?
stacyrg1 replied to Pea523's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 20 months out now so my capacity is greater. However looking back at my food logs at 8 weeks I was eating 90% protein. Protein shakes, 2 oz beef, 2-2.5 oz chicken, 3 oz fish or shrimp, Greek yogurt (the majority of a 5.3 oz container), beans, etc. on the rare occasion I had room, I would add in some softer veggies like broccoli or cauliflower. At that point for breakfast I was eating protein shakes and lunches were usually egg salad, tuna salad, chicken salad, etc. 2-2.5 oz. Hope that helps -
Post Surgery Foods You Can't Tolerate But Wish You Could
Spiceyfrog replied to Cutwater's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only food that I really cannot tolerate now (seven months post-op) is meat. Sometimes I do miss it, but most of the time I do not. I can eat turkey burger and some pork, but pretty much everything else is off limits for me. I, like you, am still able to enjoy things in much smaller quantities. Some people stick to their plan like glue, but I am a firm believer that "if" you can control what you eat, there is no harm. For example, when we go to McDonald's, my son orders what he wants and I order a fruit and yogurt parfait (no matter what time of day). I will eat 3-5 of his french fires, which satisfies my craving and have not done any harm in my eyes. Last week, we went to Logan's Roadhouse (they are famous for their dinner rolls). I ordered Soup and had two bites of a dinner roll and was satisfied. It's fine if people want to follow their diet to a tee, but I find that if I just have a little of something, my craving is satisfied and I am done with it. -
You might want to increase those carbs. Your body may be holding onto those pounds as a reaction to the workout. Carbs re not evil. Processed carbs are. Good carbs come from beans, dark green veg, rolled oats, yogurts, quinoa, sweet potatoes and nuts to name just a few. Are you fueling your workouts? A protein shake before and an ounce of nuts after might provide the protein and healthy carbs your body needs.

The truth is, I failed
AnA92212 replied to AmyFromCincy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on April 27, 2015. First, Celebrate what you have accomplished. Next, you need to hit the re-set button. You haven't lost out yet. I don't do many Protein shakes myself. I use the powders sometimes in sugar free pudding or Greek yogurt though. My husband really likes the Premier Protein pre mixed shakes and that is what I drink when I do. I would see your nutritionist and come up with some foods that don't make you feel bad. I eat a very wide variety of foods. I've learned to embrace Beans as well. I NEVER ate them before surgery. Also, you need to exercise. It will help. I've been working out since 2 weeks after surgery. I now run 3 mornings a week, I walk 3 mornings a week, I do Zumba one night a week, and body pump 2 nights a week. Some people will say, "I don't have that much time." Well, I work full time, am in school to get my MBA, married, and have a 10 month old daughter. You don't have to do anything major...just get moving. I have had many stalls along this morning. My starting weight was 290-294. My surgery date weight was 260. Now I am 143. It's not easy, but it is so worth it!! Don't give up!! -
The truth is, I failed
Miss Mac replied to AmyFromCincy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Of all the different Protein powders I tried, I found that the Syntrax Nectars blend in better. As a matter of fact, their Grapefruit flavor mixed with Crystal Lite Lemonade tastes EXACTLY like Fresca Soda. I keep that one on hand. Also, I find that when mixed with low-fat milk or almond milk, the vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate flavors are more true. i got to thinkin' and wanted to ask you who prepares the food that you eat, and are they a good cook? When I was younger, I had anemia and anorexia. The doctor gave me a B12 shot once a month and insisted that I eat liver twice a week. The only way my mother knew how to cook it was to fry it in a pan with onions. I felt like I was eating my shoe. A Mexican neighbor came to the rescue and would mince the liver and put it in her taco meat and other highly spiced dishes. I could not taste the liver and did not care that it was there. This was all a matter of how the same food was fixed differently by two different cooks. Mother's range of cooking was limited with basic meat and potatoes, and anything made with noodles, bread or rice. She could make outstanding Desserts, but regular food - not so much. When I met my boyfriend in 2006, he introduced me to many foods that I had never had, and some I had never even heard of. What comes to mind is avocado, sunchokes, asparagus, Hollandaise sauce, crab, zucchini, eggplant, cheeses beside American, cheddar, and mozzarella, yogurt, pistachios....the list goes on and on. If the menu in your home is limited, then it is high time your branch out and explore what else is out there. If there is something you think you would like better if it were prepared differently, speak up. I have always thought that MUST have been some Israelite woman traveling 40 years in the desert with Moses who should have written a cookbook: 101 Ways to Fix Mannah. Men didn't ask for directions back then either! -
Protein shakes and nausea
stelsewhere replied to brindall's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I battled extreme nausea for the first 3 months of my recovery. I'm now 5 months out and it only happens a few times a month now, very rare. Flat ginger ale (clear with your doctor) and saltine crackers helped me. I'd literally eat half a saltine cracker and it helped a lot. I wasn't perfect in my recovery, but I do think my nausea is why I lost SO much weight so quickly (I lost 80 lbs in 5 months). It simply became not worth it to eat. But I'm so glad it's not happening anymore. I feel healthier now that I'm getting substantial nutrients in every day. The Iron in my Vitamins tends to nauseate me, so I always eat something first (like my Greek yogurt in the morning) and THEN take my Vitamin. I'll often have a bite or two of a saltine before I take my afternoon vitamin. Hope this helps. -
One trick that I've been doing is to make my own pita chips. I start by buying the thinnest ones I can find and cutting them into the skinniest little triangles possible. With any luck, each one ends up under 15 calories. Then I warm up some EVOO with crushed garlic and brush them lightly. Then top them with cracked pepper and sea salt. Bake at 350 and watch them until the edges get brown. You should try to bake them at the party and serve them hot. You can serve these with any healthy dip or humus and people will go crazy. I like the Greek yogurt dips which are low cal and have some Protein.

Breakfast.
NewSetOfCurves replied to Roberto Molina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is very difficult (well, my experience) initially post-op, because my sleeve was so tight (or swollen). Even though it got boring really fast, for those first couple of months breakfast consisted of Greek yogurt, eggs--I know you're tired of them, but nevertheless--with cheese (choose high Protein cheeses), Babybel or Laughing Cow soft cheeses, watered down cream of chicken, thinned oatmeal or malt-o-meal with unflavored Protein powder, and/or Protein shakes. Again, it was redundant and boring, but those are what worked for me and what gave the calories I needed just to get through the day without passing out. -

1 cup Almond milk, 1 scoop chocolate Protein powder, tablespoon of protein rich Peanut Butter, half a frozen banana, and some ice cubes. Tastes like a Reese's Cup and 30+ grams of protein depending on type of powder and peanut butter. 1 cup almond milk, half a cup greek yogurt, mandarin orange, vanilla protein powder, table spoon sugar free whip cream and ice. Tastes like a creamsicle and again 30+ grams of protein possible. These shakes have more calories than the recommended but will get you going and over the "yuck" feeling. Just eat light between and it will balance out. Of course someone will say talk to the nutritionist and that's fine just an option. -

Hello, My insurance required 90 days and all these test and weight management appointments. I used a group in NJ and they had everything right there. I'm done with everything my date has been set for 3 months and now I'm have my sleeve February 1, 2016. My Birthday is on the 10 so happy birthday to me. Currently on my doctors pre op diet which consist of soup with nothing in them, broths, yogurt, ice pops, fish, water and protein shakes. It's hard I can't lie, but I'm making it.
