  1. Well, each type of plane is has different size seatbelts and differently sized seats. So, what fits on an A321 might not fit on a 777. In general, small planes have smaller seats and seatbelts, so those were the only ones I really needed extenders on at about 260. Now at 199.8 (!) I can fit in any seatbelt on any type of plane I've flown on since about 260 lbs. However, I haven't flown on any really small planes since I was about 250 (before I gained the last 30 lbs during the first part of the pandemic that led me to seek surgery).
  2. Hello All, I’m scheduled for surgery on December 10th. My surgery will be in Mexico because my insurance will not cover weight loss surgery. Today, I got a call from my pastors wife and she expressed her concerns about me going to Mexico. I’ve done my research and my weight is emotionally and physically taking a toll on me and I’ve been so excited but since talking to her, I no longer feel confident and I feel like negative thoughts have been projected on me. I was happy but now I’m feeling like this was too good to be true and maybe I shouldn’t go. This is why I should’ve kept tho to myself. I tried to be open about it and I’m getting negative feedback and it’s got my anxiety way up which is something I do not need right now. Any thoughts? I could use some encouragement. Thanks 😏

    Constipation

Program fluids: 3-5 shakes plus at least 64 oz. of clear fluids. After surgery, the 64 oz is bare minimum, and often people return to the hospital with dehydration if that’s all they can drink. Recommended guidelines are 1/2 to 1 full oz of fluid per lb of body weight. The reason psyllium husks are allowed is because they are not like other fibers which will add carbs/calories.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Had a bad day. I feel like I really wanted to eat too much. I didn't feel the same fullness today for some reason. That has me scared. I've been stuck at the same weight for 2 weeks. I know I need to trust the process, but at the moment, I'm wondering if this is going to work for me.
  5. I had a gastric bypass on 11/15. I lost 1 lb at my 2 week check up. Now I'm panicking that something is wrong. I'm eating very little and it is most disappointing, Any advice?
  6. Honestly don't worry LadyH - trust your procedure, the weight will come off when you've recovered from the surgery itself. 5lbs in 5 days is amazing actually! I am 18 days post sleeve and have lost 4lbs only. I know it's disappointing because we compare ourselves to others who sometimes seem to have lost lots more. Keep the faith, drink your water and get your protein - you'll be fine!
  7. Your body is still healing, it has inflammation, you are likely still carrying a bit of fluid weight from the surgery. By the way there is nothing only about 5lb especially post op day 5. You may need to reset your expectations.

    Aquatic Exercise

I noticed after losing over 200 lbs that I actually SANK instead of floated! I've gained about 20 lbs back since then so I'm not a sinker anymore, but on the other hand, it takes a lot more effort to tread water than it did when I weighed almost 400 lbs! I think swimming is the only exercise where it's actually easier to do when you're carrying around extra fat!
  9. Inspiring! I do aquatic cardio workouts 5 hours a week now pre-surgery. As soon as I'm cleared post-surgery for weight lifting, I'm going to get a personal trainer at the YMCA and begin strength training. My bariatric clinic includes sessions with a personal trainer, but the affiliated gym is 75 miles away so the local YMCA is where I'll go. I think that shrinking my excess skin is probably hopeless, but I'm going to do as much as I can before considering plastic surgery.
  10. I’m under the same I instructions. I started on Friday and have lost 7 pounds as of this morning. Definitely good amount of water weight to lose. Surgery is on Friday!!
  11. I am so happy to hear some of you guys have lost so much weight on the liquid diet, my dietitians said, I can have soup and protein shake, she also said, I can use Atkins or keto meal replacement. I am on keto shakes and soup. Jello and vitamin water. It’s working well. Good luck to everyone.
  12. Sorry for the unpleasant topic title. I'm on day 5 of the all liquid (shakes and clear fluids only + SF Jello, SF popsicles, broth) diet. I'm doing fine, no real hunger, etc. BUT... Even taking the 2 Dulcolax tabs per day as allowed, I am getting more and more constipated. I drink well over 200 oz of fluids per day. This seems insane to me. I take 3 grams of psyllium husk (allowed) in addition to the approximate 3 grams of fiber in each shake, but nothing is helping. The Dulcolax worked well the first couple days (when on regular foods) I used it, but now it seems like it's working against me. I feel super bloated, and the first few days on the liquid diet, I was constantly going to the bathroom and losing water weight, but now, even with all the fluids I'm drinking, that's no longer happening, either. I also have continuous, extreme cotton mouth--and that's a big part of why I'm drinking so much. Help?!!
  13. Do you remember at what weight you stopped needing extender? I can’t wait to hit this point.

    UK friends

Hi all! I'm looking for some UK-based friends, but other bases are fine too! A little about me: I am pre-surgery, 23 years old, and based in the East of England. I love music, gaming and animals. My favourite bands are Muse, Radiohead, Placebo and My Chemical Romance. As for gaming I'm a PC gamer and it is my main hobby. I have plenty of pets, and I love them all dearly. I have chronic pain from a variety of conditions but my PCOS, IBS, Fibro and Hypermobility are the main ones. I'm studying to be a midwife but I'm currently on a gap year due to mental health and the pandemic. I don't mind having friends younger or older than me, pre-surgery, post-surgery or just losing/maintaining weight. Anything is fine by me! Just people to related with, discuss weight loss and recipies and all the other nice things. I have no friends who understand what I'm going through, and I know friends and connections are important for support during these difficult times. Let's make some friends! 😛

Liver Shrinkage Diet (No weight loss)

That's a very good point, I never thought about a stall! It could well be that indeed. I will see my loss next week and if it isn't anything brilliant I will inform my bariatric team that I successfully did the 2 week period but didn't have a big loss. I suspect the actual pre-surgery one will be more liquids than solid meals, so that might have more of a success. I have downloaded a UK-based calorie counter to make my life a bit easier so I can track things better too. Fingers crossed! Honestly thank you so much, I find it hard to lose weight because of my PCOS so I should give myself more credit than I do. Congrats on your 36 pounds! I hope you hit that target weight! X
  16. I should be cooking for my husband, who is not on any weight loss plan (but should be!)), but I'm rarely able to figure that out. It is a lot of hard decisions about what to eat. I have some good ideas from this post. I have an added problem of not enjoying many foods people suggest, not sure how to change that. Thank you so much for your reply.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Just checking in again today my sweets. Still stuck at a 4lb loss 18 days post op and really needing my whoosh now! Am taking in about 600 calories a day and around 60g protein. Pain is getting better every day - the only time I notice it now is when I straighten up too quickly after bending over, or when I try to sleep on my side at night. Hunger was less noticeable yesterday - it has been hard, so nice to see it subsiding at last. All in all, everything going the right way, kind of apart from the weight, which has to come soon, right?? Just about to start a big Sunday roast here, which I will puree for myself. Also boiling ham for lunches (everyone else) during the week so I will use the stock to make some 'ham', lentil and veg soup for my own lunches! How has everyone's weekend been so far?

    Bariatric Therapy

I've continued seeing my normal therapist throughout the process and she does not specialize in anything food/body related, and still found a lot of value in it. I'm trying to put my finger on what the takeaways were, but I think the things I'm processing the most that are helpful are a) body shame and b) dealing with people's reactions to my weight loss. If you can, I would probably recommend a therapist even if you can't find one that directly specializes in this area. It helps just to have someone to talk to! Something I did on my own that was really helpful: in the couple of weeks leading up to the liver reduction diet, and I had my moment where I was just eating "whatever I wanted" "for the last time," I wrote down what favorite comfort food I ate, and then briefly journaled about how I felt physically after eating it. That helped me process losing access these foods, because I realized that they would often make my stomach hurt/make me feel physically terrible right after eating all of that. It took away from the emotional power those foods had for me.
  19. Very helpful list, Thanks And amazing weight loss!

Liver Shrinkage Diet (No weight loss)

Thank you so much for making me feel normal. I really was wonder if something was wrong with me. I'm considering dropping soup, and upping my protein intake. I will ask my team for a specific amount of carb and protein I should be having. I feel so hungry all the time, does a larger protein intake help with this? I will be starting from tomorrow, and hopefully see more than 1kg loss in 2 weeks time! Thank you, it has been hard but any loss is a good loss. It's hard to remember that. I'm trying to find like minded people to chat with too. I have no plus size friends who understand the hard realities of losing weight and Bsurgery. X

Liver Shrinkage Diet (No weight loss)

Hi @xKirstenx , I was loosing weight with “normal” food, not shakes before the pre-op diet. I lost 73lb, 33 kg. I lost nothing during the pre-op diet! So, don’t beat yourself up about the shake stage. Talk with your dietitian. We found the shakes had too much carb for me. That’s just me. I agree with gabbykittyvsg about protein. My usual real food, before and after surgery consists of 60-90 grams of protein per day. I suggest checking in with your bariatric center to review your personal nutrition plan because each person has a different protein/carb/fat goal based upon your gender, height, and build. And congratulations on your big loosing successes!

Liver Shrinkage Diet (No weight loss)

You should setup an appointment with a nutritionist. The nutritionist can direct you to the proper foods which will help shrink your liver and losing weight. Good luck to you.

Liver Shrinkage Diet (No weight loss)

Yes I'm roughly having 800 cals a day! I lost 5 percent of my weight just prior to this diet so yeah I get what you mean. I'm really hoping next week I will see a result but if not I'm concerned. I guess it is slightly brutal but I will do anything to get that surgery! Thanks for replying x
