  1. Try not to weight yourself every day, you will go mad!!! I am on day 10 of the liquid diet, I lost 5 lbs drastically in 2 days, and was the same weight for 8 days, until this morning the scale magically dropped 5 pounds overnight. Do not worry at all, the weight will continue to come off. Be patient, and also remember after surgery you WILL stall but don't let this discourage you! Just like our minds need to catch up to the new us (taking more time grocery shopping, looking for new sizes clothes shopping, etc) our body needs to catch up with itself, and all of the changes going on internally.
  2. Griffon, I am right there with you. I had my Gastric Sleeve 6/22/18 and I lost 15 lbs on the pre-op diet and then was 300 lbs day of surgery. I came home and I had gained to 309 from fluids because I was so sick from anesthesia and morphine. At my 2 weeks post op I weighed 285 (down 24 lbs.) I have been at 285 for 2 weeks. Yesterday I seen my surgeon for my 1 month appointment and he was very happy. He stated it is very normal for your body to stall like everyone is saying after a large amount of weight is lost right after surgery. Your body will stall and then acclimate and then begin to lose. I have not had any junk food or carbs, I am stickily eating protein or protein shake with my miralax and walking. He said I should start to see about 10-15 lbs a month after the initial weight loss. Believe it or not this morning I was 283. Best of luck and try not to get frustrated.

Where I am right now on August 14

Today I spent hours going through the binder of information given to me by the bariatric team. I am one of those super organized, Type A personalities, so it was necessary for my peace of mind to have dividers and tabs and plastic sheaths for the important papers. Kinda crazy, I suppose, but that's me! Next I went through all my diabetic magazines and clipped the yummiest sounding recipes. :-) So far on this journey toward surgery-- 1. I established the insurance requirements (a complicated story I may share at another time) and got the preliminary clearance. That was a relief! 2. I discussed my desire with my personal physician, a fabulous doctor and man I respect greatly who has been my GP since moving to KY 3 years ago. His approval and support was not a deal breaker, necessarily, as I was 80-90% sure surgery was my best course, but it was important to me for him to be on board. It was a relief when he not only didn't disagree but also confirmed the positive reports I had read about the local surgeon and bariatric program. 3. I (and my husband) attended the informational seminar offered by the Bariatric Weight Loss Program here in my home town. The surgeon was at the meeting, as well as others on the team, and the info was very thorough. So far nothing to give me pause! I filled out the request form, then waited.... 4. The wait wasn't too long. Gayle, the program coordinator, called me about a week later to set up my first appointment with the surgeon Dr. Farrell. 5. August 4 was my appointment with Dr. Farrell. Before meeting him I also had brief meetings with the dietician and again with Gayle. A binder containing detailed information about the pre-approval process and appointments, the surgery itself and surgery prep, diet pre- and post-op, possible complications, exercise, recipes, and much more. VERY thorough! I even got a few samples of protein powder and shakes. 6. August 11 was my appointment with a cardiologist for "surgical clearance." I had seen this doctor just over a year ago, before my diagnosis of sleep apnea, to rule out any cardiac issues. Nothing had shown up at that time, and as a prior patient I was able to get in to see him quickly. Unfortunately, I have been very sick with bronchiolitis and possible pneumonia, on strong cough medicine and steroids. The latter (I'm convinced) is why my heart rate was high, and of course my chest wasn't as clear as it should have been. For this reason the doctor recommended a follow up ECHO and treadmill test to be sure all was well before surgery. As an RN, I could not argue the logic even if it adds more to the process. Better safe than sorry! 7. Gayle called the next day to give me dates for all the various appointments: Psych Eval, Support Group meetings, endoscopy, Nutritional Eval, Exercise Eval, and a Healthy Lifestyle Class. These, along with the cardio followup, are scheduled over the next month, beginning tomorrow. No set surgery date as yet. The initial estimate was early November, but it seems to me mid to late October makes more sense. My birthday is on October 26, and while it doesn't sound like too much fun to spend one's birthday in the hospital, in pain, and unable to eat at least a small piece of cake, I am willing to make the sacrifice if it means getting the rest of my better-health-and-skinnier-life started! I'm ready!

2ND FILL ~ Possible over fill?????

A fill can take up to 1 week to feel the full affect so If you can stay with liquids for 1-2 days then mushies 1-2 days and then try solids....if after that you still have a hard time eating and drinking and it includes throwing up, sliming or PB'ing then I would consider and unfil...Good Luck

Hello. I am new to the group. Last week my wife and I went to an informational meeting with a surgeon. The doctor recommended we have the gastric sleeve. Our first one on one meeting is next Friday. I am so nervous. I have been obese my entire life and morbidly obese for the past 8 years. We are in Ohio and have united health care insurance through state medicaid. I have called the insurance and they do cover bariatric surgery. I am anxious to get started on the 6 months diet or whatever the surgeon requests. I just wanted to say hello.

    Weight loss

One week out and down 5lbs. Most people are still up pounds from the IV water weight. Seems like your ahead. Follow your plan and try not to obsess on the scale. Easier said than done I know. Be prepared for the dreaded 4 week stall. You might as well set your mind on that now. Follow your plan the weight will come off!

    The pre-op diet STINKS.

Ok, I haven't gotten my surgery date yet, but it will probably be in about 2 weeks. So, I thought, why not go ahead and start my pre-op diet early!?! OMGosh. I have had a headache ALL STINKIN' DAY and I'm so tired. Please tell me it gets better!! I can already tell that I'm going to be BURNT OUT on sweet pretty quickly. I can and will do it, but no one said I had to enjoy it! LOL! I see my surgeon on Wednesday (weather permitting) and will get my surgery date. The sooner, the better I say!

    The Three Month Mark

I'm so glad I found this thread- I was worried I hadn't lost enough because I'm only losing roughly a kilo a week and it didn't seem like quite enough. So good to hear its pretty normal!

    Protein Shakes....Oh Boy

Met with surgeon today to sign all paperwork and set up pre-op testing for next week. I had to pay for 2 weeks of protein shakes out of pocket...$250.00...not covered by insurance. Supposedly that fee also covers membership to a monthly support group for this surgeons patients. I went to Walmart today and bought 2 mini blenders. One for work and one for home. I got gallon jugs of water, diet ice tea, and crystal light mix. I made dinner for the rest of the family and went to cvs while they ate to get photos developed. I'm going to have my first shake sometime soon. I wanted to wait until the hunger kicked in. Hopefully it will be good. I am to drink one for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. In between I can only have non-calorie drinks. The surgeon said he wants me to lose some weight before surgery. Hmmmm....I couldn't for the last 10 yrs and now it's supposed to because I'm told to? This is gonna be tough....real tough for a binger like me.
  13. I was banded 4-14-08 and am getting my fifth fill tomorrow. I still have no restriction and I'm pretty sure my weigh-in tomorrow will show a gain. I've been gaining and losing the same 3 or 4 pounds for the last 5 or 6 weeks now. I know it can take several fills to reach good restriction, but I'm getting a bit weary. I can eat WAY more than I should, and I know I have to work at this, but if my self-control were all that good, I wouldn't have needed surgery in the first place. Thanks in advance for prayers and support. I'm glad this forum is here. Jan from KY

    My First Fill

Finally, I get to have my first fill tomorrow. My doctor called me yesterday checking to see how I was doing. I told him I was hungry alot of the time and he said that shouldn't be so he scheduled me to come in a week early. Now I am alittle nervous about the actual procedure. He explained it all to me but I am still chicken.:paranoid

I need opinions and i need them FAST!!

Nicolerose, Maybe you need to start taking in a few more calories for awhile, sometimes that helps a plateau in weight loss - and only weigh yourself once a week. As far as the fill - do you feel like you are at your sweet spot or is it a lot of self control on your part to eat so little? I would at least go in to talk to your Dr. let them know what you're doing and see what they recommend. Good luck - you are doing awesome!!

    **DO NOT CRUSH**

I take various Rx meds every morning. (about 10 pills total) When I was preparing to get banded, I was told to get a pill crusher which I did. I used it one week after surgery. One of the meds I take is Lovaza, which is basically a fish oil capsule that can't be crushed. I take 4 of these, and they are very large. Make a long story short, I take all my meds whole, I don't need to crush them even though I have a tight band.
  17. Did anyone have any issues with their pancreas or gallbladder after surgery.

    Officially sleaved

The bad feelings are only temporary.... you will be better week by week. Welcome to the ranks of the Sleeved.
  21. My experience was very much like yours. I had a lot of pain post-op and my surgeon had to up my pain meds to get it under control. I also had that intense pain immediately after drinking something. My pain was a little farther down than yours (lower chest instead of middle) but it hit about 1.5 seconds after taking a sip of anything. I had to take super tiny sips and even then it hurt for about 10 days. Overall, my first couple of weeks were just generally awful - I couldn't eat anything and didn't want to. I basically lived by sipping clear protein drinks (not shakes) all day for the first 10-12 days and then I started to rapidly get better. Sorry it's difficult right now, hopefully you will turn the corner soon.

    Pain Left Side Under Rib

I am almost 5 weeks out now and didn't start to get the discomfort under my ribcage until around the 2-3 week mark when I was back to my normal routine. My doc said it was normal and it really only lasted about 10 days. He said that if I felt ok in the morning when I woke up and I got sore as the day progressed that it was just me working the muscles in the area he had to muck around in to get to the stomach and it should clear up in a few days. If it is really bad though, I would say that you need to call your surgeon just to make sure everything is normal.
  23. joatsaint

    normal?

I didn't worry about how much Water or food I was taking in during the 1st and 2nd week. My sleeve was still swollen and there wasn't much room. I was eating about 1/2 popsicle and whatever water I could take in per day, the 1st week. On the 2nd week, I was eating about 1/2 can of Cream of Mushroom Soup per day and whatever water I could take in. It wasn't till about week 4 that I was able to get in the recommended daily Protein and water. Keep pimpin that sleeve!
  24. Its definitely true. I for one have a cast Iron stomach, I never vomit, even when everyone else around me is dying of food poisoning and i ate the same meal. I knew going into this surgery I would not be a vomiter. I just had the feeling. I could easily have been wrong, I guess, but I wasnt. My stomach is just very very non sensitive. I can take fills and dont need to do liquids to mushies to solids, I have of course pb'd but I can eat again straight away, I dont swell or react to fills appreciably (other than getting a bit more restriction, which takes about a week to really kick in). I have 3cc in a 4cc band and am not tight and can eat bread etc. My doc made the point he chose the 9cm 4cc band for me becuase I had a smallish stomach and at a BMI of 36, not a lot of internal fat - I sat on most of my weight problem, lol. I never got morning sickness either, lol. Other people just cannot cope with the same sorts of treatment I can throw at my band. Its just the luck of the draw. Or, I call myself lucky but some people would be in despair at being able to eat bread, its all how you look at it.
  25. People are just different. My friend was banded 2 weeks before me by the same surgeon. She has had numerous fills and unfills (now at 8ccs), while I have only had 2 small fills, each only 1cc. She even kept her entire fill during her pregnancy and is going in on Thursday for another! My stomach is just sensitive. I get a little tighter if I have any stress at all and then have to be careful when I eat. I do, however, think I am ready for a very small fill now.
