    Dr. Alvarez

In order to hold ur date it is $1000 deposit, which also gets deducted off the total of $8750. It holds ur place and you can change it at anytime, it's also non refundable. I'm not worried about the border because I've crossed the border before , not this border but the tx/matamoros border, and nothing happened. He's a little more costly but I went with my feeling and how he treated me and always responds to my messages and calls. Susan his assistant will answer all ur questions too. If you go to his website you can try out financing on his website . I got approved but it fell through because he's not certified here in the USA. He has done about 4200 sleeves and his leak rate is very low. The leaks happened only 5-6 times and it was either a revision on someone eating a sandwich or something while healing. Their fault not his. I'm happy with my decision and look forward to his help each day.

    Lap Band Attaching To Muscle/Organs

The adhesions were found by exploratory laparoscopy the first time. The second time was when I had the revision to the sleeve. It took about 3 times longer than most revisions due to the horrible adhesions that I had. The adhesions were pretty much anywhere any part of the band, port, and tubing touched. If you read all my previous postings, you will see what all happened during the time I had my band. DO NOT ever let any bariatric surgeon convince you that you are having problems from being non-compliant. I followed all the band "rules" to a "T". Nothing you will ever do will control formation of adhesions. It is not because you aren't eating like you should, not following the rules of chew, chew, chewing, etc. This is a condition called "band intolerance". There isn't alot of information on it (or at least when I was researching it). There may be more info now as more and more people are developing the same problems. I haven't read/done much with the band as I had the revision to sleeve in 12/09. Good luck and I hope you get some answers soon.

Let's Get The Duodenal Switch People Together

That's great to hear!! Your success is truly motivating. I am one week post op a rny to ds revision and am pushing, or trying to push through this liquid diet. I'm still sore, can't wait to feel more like myself. What are some things that keep you maintained for years? Sent from my LM-Q710(FGN) using BariatricPal mobile app

Are We All Doing This Too Soon?

To be fair, you're mostly asking people who've already had it done, so they probably didn't think it was too soon. The first Duodenal (which I'm assuming would have included the first VSG) switch was performed in 1988. Prior to that - gastrectomies had been in use for a very long time, just not for weightloss. The first gastrectomy for cancer was done in 1881 (Billroth - and not a "sleeve" per se, but still gastrectomy). Removal of the greater curvature of the stomach for reasons other than weightloss really aren't new at all. It's just the "as a bariatric procedure" that's new (well, if you count having been performed for > 20 years as new). I think this is majority true, but certainly has exceptions (your use of "typically" is well noted). For those not familiar with these or the difference, Billroth I connects to the duodenum, Billroth II connects to the jejunum - which is performed depends on how much/exactly what has to be removed. When I was first researching the sleeve (with the help of a friend who is a very good surgeon and an even better researcher), removal of the fundus and greater curvature of the stomach was done for gastric cancer (retaining the pylorus and pyloric valve, removing the fundus and some amount of the greater curvature) around 1950. I think cancers of the gastric fundus are generally treated through a sleeve procedure, unless the cardia is also affected (but by no means am I sure). I'm a band revision, and honestly - I never believed it would be with me forever. I was banded earlier than most, and even then I knew that chances were it would come out at one point. I hoped it might, but never trusted. Even 6 or 7 years ago it was very carefully stated that it was intended to be a permanent implant, but... And the band isn't causing a high rate of physical complications (things like erosion are still fairly low stats), it's just mechanically failing a lot. It's also one of the only procedures out there that can mechanically fail. With what's available right now, my firm opinion is that the VSG is the way to go IF you are a personality that can be responsible for a restrictive procedure. Maybe it's too soon, I guess more time can always tell something new. But I think it has been used long enough to be a calculated, well-researched risk. A much better risk than sitting around waiting for the next greatest thing, which probably will be brand new, so then you'd be waiting another 10 - 20 years to start seeingthe mid-long term research coming out...

    Band Slippage Blues

I had my lapband placed in 2009. Lost almost all of my weight (111 lbs) and then it slipped. They defilled me to see if it would fix itself. It didn't. I was told it wasn't surgical and that "it was all up to me" now - the lapband was done with it's job. After a year, and 30 extra lbs, I decided to revise to the sleeve. My insurance paid for it cuz it was a lapband complication. Had my sleeve revision in July. It took my dr an extra 30 minutes to dig my band outa my stomach. Not sure what would've happened if it had stayed in there any longer. So happy with my sleeve. It's going pretty slow (lost 22 lbs in 3 mths). I knew it would come off slower cuz I started lower (174), and I'm only 23 lbs from my goal of 130. I've only vomited once since being sleeved (vs almost everyday- even while totally unfilled with the band) No more pain while eating either. My dr doesn't recommend the band to anyone anymore. He fixes more complication than sees those with none. While I'm thankful that my band allowed me to lose over 100 lbs, I'm also thankful that its out and I'm on my way back down. Good luck with ur decision! Marci

    Gastric Band Revision To Sleeve

I had GERD and a hiatal hernia for about 15 years. When I started to think about weight loss surgery and do my research, I decided gastric bypass with hiatal hernia repair was the right choice for me. I know I am not a revision like you, but I decided getting rid of GERD forever, and not taking the chance of having to revise later, was very important to me. I am almost 3 weeks post op now. The first two weeks I had a bit of regurgitation, but that has gone away. I will continue my proton pump inhibitors for another month or so while I finish healing per the recommendation of my surgeon and then get to drop them from my meds. Yay! My recovery has not been perfect. I have had three separate incidents of vomiting, likely due to the hernia repair, but I was able to go back to work full time last Monday after two weeks off. I actually feel great and have plenty of energy. I have not tried to eat anything with processed sugars yet, just some fruit, so no dumping at this point. I am glad to have the potential for dumping as a deterrent to eating processed sugars. I do plan to try a small piece of dark chocolate soon, just to settle that craving. At some point I will try a glass of dry white or red wine too, but it is still too soon in my healing process. I hope you come to a decision that is right for you. Consider what you are willing to tolerate in the future. Possible dumping vs. possible GERD and another revision. Best thoughts coming out to you!
  7. Have been visiting my Bariatric clinic initially for undergoing the Sleeve procedure, however with my last surgeon visit, he said he recommends that I get the Bypass. With the increase of GERD after Sleeve, and the numerous revisions from Sleeve to Bypass...he says if you'd like to avoid this in the future and save a surgery then it would be better just to do Bypass. WHOAH! Bypass seems to me like the most drastic procedure for the most severe cases (IDK, I get that sensation). My question to Sleevers: If you could do it again, would you choose Bypass? Does GERD really get that bad?
  8. Travelmego

    Site a little confusing?

Are the sleevers former lap banders who had revision, by any chance?
  9. I've pretty much decided on the bypass. I've read too many posts of people having problems with the band and a lot of band to bypass revisions. I am so excited to begin the process.

    Weight gain

Alcohol ended up becoming a major obstacle to my loss. My social life involved regular beer drinking. After getting sleeved I knew I was not supposed to drink carbonated beverages, however my desire to hang out with my friends caused me to learn how to overcome that obstacle and drink beer. I think this is the major reason I never hit my weight loss goal and then gained some back. What worked for me recently was to use a time restricted feeding program along with a Keto based diet. I ate mostly Keto and only had two meals, lunch at Noon and dinner around 5-6pm. This came from, the insulin control diet programs recommended by Dr. Jason Fung. Given that my sleeve kept me from feeling really hungry it worked well and I dropped the 20 pounds I gained during the pandemic restrictions. Now I have major issues with hiatal hernia and GERD, so a revision to RNY is scheduled for tomorrow. I've decided since I have been given a second chance I am going to make the most of it. I have determined that alcohol no longer has a place in my life, and neither do snacks and slider foods.

How many tacos one year out?

I'm at one year revision to RNY, lately I've been into eating one taco (~69g), mixing it with a serving of lettuce, and maybe a tablespoon of fat free sour cream, pouring hot sauce on it as dressing (zero cals). It's really good and filling too. I think I could probably eat 2 small tacos but I prefer using extra lettuce to fill up.
  12. I have done my cardiac testing for the revision from the lapband to the bypass. I called my primary doctor's office and had them to fax my results to my surgeon.now i am waiting on them to contact me and set up my consultation with my surgeon.I am still a self pay.yes i wasted 20k, yes I am very unhappy with the results.but I know that this is my life and I need to be happy with me, credit card ready, here i come.hopefully this will bring me joy in that this is a major step in redefining me ang being satisfied with me.
  13. Hi all. I am almost a year out from band to bypass revision. I set my goal weight before getting banded in 2012 at 185 because I wanted to say I’d lost 100 lb from my surgery weight. I hit that goal but am not satisfied at how I look so I have a new goal of 175. I think the numbers mcipanda quoted at the beginning are unrealistic numbers in the first place. Better to be flexible about the goal and when it feels right then you’re there, imo. Congrats to all of you on ryes chat to have made the decision to improve your health!
  14. Awesome thus far! It's exciting when we come to terms to have weight loss surgery because it's not easy. In my case I am revision patient from and gastric bypass to DS. My bypass was done in 6/06 and I was pregnant in 2/07 I gained 42lbs back got pregnant again so that was a total of 4 can sections , gallbladder removal and a spinal fusion. My starting weight was 219 day of surgery today I am 211 I really have NO PAIN I walked every hour 10 times in the hospital and drank water which help with my bowl movement the second day and release of gas as well so the pca was gone that day I only had liquid pain meds. I also had so much scar tissue that more of my intestine had to be removed because it was attached to my abdominal wall. I am having problems with room temperature and cold water and suggestions
  15. Hello All, Hoping someone who has gone through a gastric band revision to a gastric sleeve can help me. I got the band 10 years ago and for awhile it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I lost 100 pounds and I was working out every day and life was good. Then the reflux started. So bad I spent months sleeping in a chair because lying in bed made me choke with all the stomach acid coming up. They took all the fluid out of my band and now I'm on track to get the band removed and get a gastric sleeve. Very worried about going to a hospital in the middle of the pandemic, but I'm going to be 60 soon and they're telling me that it's pretty much now or never. I'm hoping someone here who has had the experience with a band conversion to a sleeve can give me some advice about how different it is, or if it's similar and how much harder it is than the initial surgery. If there is no one on here who has had a conversion I'd also like to hear from people who got the sleeve and if they'd do it again. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Am I really gonna lose weight?

I had the lapband in 2009 and due to complications had to get it removed and got the bypass all fairly quickly and I had the revision on 12/15. I struggled with post op diet until this week when I started to eat some puréed foods but I am just not losing weight. Emotionally really frustrating that I went through all this and not seeing results.
  17. I just bought a box of patches. I've only used a few days so don't know yet how effective they are but they sure are easy to use Lap band 2009 Sw 200/lw 161/cw 214 Sleeve revision booked 17 May
  18. Just curious; is nobody suggesting the mini gastric bypass (or other primarily malabsorptive procedures like BPD-DS, SADI-S etc.) for revisions? Results in scientific studies are very promising specifically on revisions.
  19. Good morning Kai You should be feeling much better this morning. The first 24 hours are the worst. It sounds like you know what you are doing, walk, rest, walk!!! It is so important to keep moving, you will heal so much faster. I just re-read your posts, you are a revision so yes you know what you are doing!! Just keep moving and you will be fine! I wish you a pain free recovery and quick weight loss!!
  20. No revision for me... this sleeve is my first WLS! Today, Day 2, was a little rougher than yesterday but not too bad at all. I had crazy nausea & dry heaves, only to find out it was due to my IV not working properly. Once they changed the site & after a little rest I was good to go! I'm peeing normal (yay for me, but maybe TMI for some!) and just had a shower & put my own pjs on... feels much better! Drinking the blue apple juice wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, it just seemed like a lot of liquid all at once for the first time... but no leaks, so it was all worth it. I'm now sipping normal apple juice & tea. It's a different feeling to get used to, but I'm hoping that'll change quick. The staff have been amazing. I've never had a medical team that explained their processes so much or checked in on me so often. I'm glad to have read so many positive reports on Dr Aceves, as this experience has been nothing short of positive so far. Glad to be on the other side, hope it just gets easier from here!

Has Anyone Had a Second Sleeve?

Hi SoCal, I'm sorry you're having issues, and you already answered your own dilemma! You're eating the wrong foods. Surgeons have done study after study and find the pouch does not stretch over time, but what happens is the hormones change, signaling your brain you can eat more. It's normal to feel you can eat more, and very expected. You did nothing wrong, and did not stretch out your pouch. A revision is possible but any doctor will let you know that a revision won't help you in the long run, but changing your habits will. You need to eat many more veggies and fruit, legumes and nuts. Steer clear of beef, beef has fat hormones. Chicken a tough on digestion. Eat fish, it's high in protein and gentle on the tummy. The Mediterranean Diet, basically. Don't regress back to the diet you were on initially (liquid)- that will harm your metabolism. If you cannot kick your bad habits, I suggest a support group for food addiction or a therapist, which may help you alleviate some of your issues with eating the foods you seem drawn to eating/or are addicted to by addressing the reason why you eat those. The surgery is a one time deal, really, to address those issues before hand and try to curb the tendencies that helped us put on on weight in the first place. Many people find themselves in your predicament and are hard on themselves, when really the solution is to simply change your eating and exercise habits to what they need to be for the rest of your life. I also suggest working out. The best exercises are some you can do outside a gym and in your home, push ups, squats, anything you use your own body weight. These reduce injury and burn a lot as you get cardio and weight in simultaneously. Wishing you absolute success! I think you can do this!

Has Anyone Had a Second Sleeve?

I had my sleeve last August, 2016. While there another patient was there for a "sleeve revision". Perhaps you could have your doctor do a barium test on your sleeve to see if it has enlarged. I know some doctors will do a revision and repair. Good luck.

    Surgery postponed due to Covid

If you have met all of your insurance pre-op requirements can you check with other surgeons who may still be performing surgeries? I totally understand the out of pocket max thing. We took a more expensive bi-weekly premium plan this year to get the lower out of pocket max, but I still paid 5500 out of pocket, and I wouldn’t want to do it again for the same procedure unless it was a revision etc. Right now my surgeon is still performing surgeries, at least as of last week, but I’m in Georgia, but I would be one that definitely would be calling around all my neighboring states programs and seeing if there was a surgeon who could get me in. They know it’s expensive, so I’d tell any one of them who would listen about your situation and see if they could get you in. My center had a 4 week fast track program, and that was for people just starting the journey, so I bet there is some place that could get you in!! Good luck!!!!!

    Sleeve to RNY

I'm not a revision, but an eight year "vet" on here. Most people don't lose weight nearly as fast after a revision as they do after a "virgin" surgery. And also, you do have some control over that. You probably won't be able to eat much for the first few weeks after the surgery because of the swelling and healing, but once you're through that, you do have some control over how many calories you're taking in. You can always bump them up a bit if you think you're starting to lose too much weight
  25. Hey please know you got this. I have been beating myself up for needing a revision. Had leave to bypass may 19. I am outpacing my first weight loss by a lot. I’m wiser now. Every single day is a choice and you will be successful if you make good choices more days than not.
