  1. Hey! Are you having bypass in February? We are starting a closed/secret group on Facebook and would LOVE to have you join us. 2 years ago I had a sleeve done, but due to complications they are revising me from sleeve to bypass. I had an AMAZING group on Facebook that all had the same surgery that month. We were going through the same things whether it was venting one day, sharing milestones, and made lasting friendships! Since it's a secret group there is some hoops to go through to get added (sorry, Facebook makes it harder) The good thing is that it's completely secret meaning none of your friends can know see posts or ever know you're in it This makes it a safe place for us because I know for some it's not something they want to share. Here's how to join: 1. Go to https://www.facebook.com/lanaepetersen and send me a friend request 2. I will accept the friend request, then send you an invite to the group. 3. 11. Status: (Liz5012) Hi All, I haven't been on for awhile but where else can I go for a little guidance? My weight has gone up from 142 to 155 lbs in the last four months. I had a hip revision on October 1, 2015. A revision is when they have to remove one artificial hip that has failed and replace it with a new one. The damage was more than expected, due to complications it required repair of areas including my muscles, tissue and quad. For the first three and a half months I was resting 23 out of 24 hours a day. I have been at my husband's mercy for four months with my food. No matter what I ask for he buys what he wants. He thinks he is being nice, but no matter what I say nothing works. I have been having food that I would not normally buy...prepared, breaded, minimal veggies, no sugar free, etc. I think my stomach may have stretched too. All of a sudden I can eat a full apple when I used to be able to eat a third of a regular size. My mobility has been minimal as my hip is not healing as fast as hoped. I go to Physical Therapy but am very limited. I am unable to walk great distances and am allowed to ride an exercise bike for ten minutes on level one. My gastric sleeve was done December 30, 2014 and everything was going great until this happened. I need advice how to start getting back on track with so little support. I was thinking of having Stop & Shop deliver as Whole Foods doesn't. Should I start back with liquids? I have been drinking my protein shake everyday. Any suggestions or advice would be welcome. Thanks!
  12. There are many revision people here. I actually did great with my band while it was working, but once it slipped and I was never able to keep a fill in it I gradually gained back every pound... I knew that I needed some help to lose and keep off the weight. I find the Sleeve to be everything I wanted, and I think you will be very happy with your decision. Search the forums and you can probably find numerous threads on recovery and results after revision! Good luck!
  13. I'm having a revision from the band to bypass. Focus on the two week pre-op diet. You will be amazed some of the weight and other changes during this period.

    Excessive weight regain

You should probably talk to your NUT and make a plan to get back on track. Sounds like you went off the rails somehow. Maybe it's food choices, or slacked off with exercise, or started taking a medication that is effecting your weight, but it's better to see the NUT now and not wait until everything has piled back on and your only choice is a revision of some sort.
  15. Hello! I saw that we started at the same weight 215 lbs day of surgery. I will be one week out tomorrow and am currently about 210lbs. How has your weight loss been since starting at a smaller weight then most? Just curious... I know everyone is different! I am also a lapband to sleeve revision, so I have been told my weight loss may be much slower. THANKS

  18. I am having a revision from sleeve to bypass due to severe acid reflux issue. When I had my sleeve, I was on a forum here and a girl introduced me to a closed/secret group on Facebook. All of the members on there had surgery the same month, so we all were going through the same things at the same time. As a result we have formed friendships in addition to support. Is there a group for Feb 2016 patients?
  19. I was revised from gastroplasty to sleeve December 2013. Lost 150. Sw 350 cw 200. Losing very slowly now, but still losing. I am using every tool in the toolbox. Counseling, trainer, gym, walking, water aerobics, monthly support groups, online support, and my personal support team of friends and family. I also call my surgeon's office when I have concerns. I have had many stalls. Some last a few days, weeks or a couple of months. Do not compare yourself to others. We all have different experiences. We did not gain over night, so do not expect to lose so quickly. Take your measurements. That is a better guide than the scale. Stalls are a good thing. Your body has to catch up with itself. Get your bloodwork checked. How is your thyroid? Are you taking your vitamins? Are you getting plenty of protein? Hang in there. Be patient. This is not a race.

Signs and Symptoms of Lap Band Slippage

Dr. Sowemimo, Thanks for this helpful article. We always hope that lap-band slippage won’t happen, but it is so important to know the signs and symptoms just in case it does, so we can get help as soon as possible. Since so many of the symptoms can happen for other reasons, too, I think it is important to also take home the message that it’s best to contact your surgeon or doctor whenever you have doubts, not just when you’re sure you have a serious problem! Thanks also for explaining the possibility of revision to a gastric bypass. Unfortunately, sometimes that’s necessary – but fortunately, it can be quite successful! I think a band can be revised to a sleeve, too.
  21. I am so so sorry for all that you are dealing with. And I know it can make you feel extremely lonely because no one has control of this except you, God and the Dr.s Your surgery date says December 2015, one year go. Is that correct? You began this complication one year later? Did staple or suture open up, or perhaps in that entire year was never closed properly? Did they do leak tests any time after the one time you had surgery? Like, a few months out? Did you have a Lap Band before or was this any kind of revision? When you have the energy I'd love to know, that way it helps all of us understand more if we know more, you might find someone who went through the exact thing. Years ago my ex had an RNY and for two years the poor man was in and out of the hospital. Nothing he did. He just had blood clotting issues, and it was a risk for him going in.

    RNY- 10+ Years Post Op?

Thank you Jelaine, for sharing this. This is a relief to hear from a malabsorbtion perspective. I am sorry you had to go through a revision. Do the docs say this is common having such tenure post op?
  23. The first few weeks are the hardest. And strangest! All of the wondering if it will really work and waiting for the scale to move. Next thing you know, your clothes will be falling off you and you will need to go shopping! I'm one year out. Started at 200 something with a band gone bad revision. Today. 135 and absolutely amazed!! Trying NOT to lose anymore because I'm on my third round of the clothes / shopping issue!

    RNY- 10+ Years Post Op?

Hello, I am 10yrs almost 11yrs. I was very anal about taking the vitamins required everyday. However just started running into complications with eating food and pouch not providing restrictions or Satiety so After 4 months working with my GBS Doctor and Gastroenterologist's the best thing to solve my issues was a revision surgery. So I am currently post-op a week. But to answer your question didn't notice major malabsorption issues because I used a lot of bariatric supplements consistently.

    Long term maintainers?

I had RNY in March of 2005. I lost a total of 110lbs and maintained that for about 5 yrs. then I noticed my weight increasing about 10lbs a year and at about year 8 I started noticing changes in my tolerance for food, IBS, and the ability to continually eat with no restrictions and also no Satiety from food. So at year 10 finally went to see what was going on and found out that I had an enlarged storms which was causing all the issues with my eating and weight gain. This is regardless of eating good or bad. So after about 4 months of tests with a Gastroenterologist's it was decided that I needed a revision. I am currently a little more than a week out from my revision. Bottom line follow the rules of the tool and pay attention to your body definitely follow up annually with Doctor.
