Good to know the first 3 days are the worst, as today was day 3 for me. Actually days 1 and 2 were fine. But we've had over a foot of snow so I did a lot of shoveling today. Thankfully mine is not 100% liquid. I had my premier shake and my Greek yogurt snsck together, before going out to shovel. I still ended up feeling slightly lightheaded until after I ate dinner. I also used the snow day to make my own chicken broth. Much better than store bought. So much so that I drank a mug while moving the Soup from the pot to Containers, and ended up not eating the vegetables I was allowed at dinner. Jess, mom to Ysabel, 6 and Maggie, 3

Pinkgirl1234 replied to Cutwater's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I went to the vitamin Shoppe and bought a 200 billion probiotic....it is refrigerated...any of the 50 billion and up will work.I open up the capsule and drop it in a teaspoon of Greek yogurt.I also bought acidophilus from Amazon.Tastes like spoiled yogurt. -
What about snacking. For those who are post op RNY, do you find the you do snack or not at all? Also, when I say snack, I am referring to healthy choices such as raw almonds, apples with peanut butter, low fat yogurt? Etc....

Awful smelling stool and gas
Less_Is_More replied to Pamela Raab Campbell's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
LOL I know the feeling! I was legendary BEFORE my DS... now I can clear the entire house in 10 seconds flat sometimes. Mostly it's when I've eaten carbs so I am under 30 carbs a day and that's really helped. I also added Probiotics and I eat at least a cup of yogurt a day and that's made it a lot more bearable too. Devrom helps some people too... I've not tried it yet, but I'm planning to try some because I have a cruise scheduled and I'm sharing a cabin with someone I don't really know. I suppose it would be nice to NOT gas them out Also, probiotics have helped me out somewhat. Poo pourri in the toilet bowl helps, as does an air freshener spray called m9. Just remember, poop stinks and the people complaining are probably perfectly capable of opening a window or spraying some air freshener. It's not like you are doing it on purpose. -
Any Jan 26,2016 gastric sleevers out there?
Meg55 replied to pammyg7's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I continue to be amazed at the variance in pre-op diets...mine is strictly liquids, no meat, salads, yogurt, or SF fudge pops Only 48 hours to go, however...yikes! -
You have my sympathies. My period began two hours after surgery, and the cramps were exacerbated by it. Fortunately, though, other than severe cramps my recovery wasn't that intense. My first regular period post-surgery was much like what the OP described. I felt very nauseous, had debilitating fatigue, and my back throbbed. It was far more intense than normal. It coincided with the first week I could eat soft foods after nearly a month of liquids, and I think that was a factor. I also started having stomach issues, and ahem, had to rush to the bathroom far too often. It made me feel a bit like a hermit for a while because I was reluctant to be out of the house for any longer than necessary. I have PCOS, and I do think hormonal changes contributed to the problems. I would take very long baths because the heat helped to soothe my stomach and my back. I actually got a little easel that I put my iPad on and set it up on the counter so I could watch Netflix while in the tub. I normally wouldn't waste Water, but it truly was so helpful. When I was out of the tub, heating pads were godsends. During that time simply staying hydrated was my main concern. I never drink Gatorade when well, but it was beneficial then because I needed fluids and calories and many other drinks were causing my stomach to be more upset. I stopped using Protein powders then because I read that whey protein can contribute to stomach issues in some people, and instead would make smoothies with Fage yogurt or plain kefir, and berries. Peppermint tea helped me, too. Eventually I was able to begin eating more without there being any stomach issues. I'm five months out now, and my other periods have not been dramatic. They've also been very regular. I track them with an app, and they've come right on time. The only problem I've experienced with them was an unusual acne breakout one month. I think that was due in part to my period but also because I'd added a B-12 supplement. I've since read articles about how excess B-12 can cause adult acne. Once I stopped taking it my skin cleared up and has not broken out again since. Hopefully you'll start to feel better soon, Kelly, and your future periods won't be as brutal.

Thanks for the great response, Alex! I have been good about getting my protein directly before and after. I did not know about the carbs. I am still struggling with the fact good carbs are ok. I probably get less than 150g of carbs a day. I eat a 20g Protein Bar before a workout and then a 20oz. Bottle of Isopure with 40g protein, but zero carb. Then maybe some yogurt and granola or eggs and cheese about an hour later. I will try adding the bread and peanut butter. That is a good idea. That will also help with Fiber too. My loss has slowed down dramatically but my body is still changing size and structure. I appreciate the kind words of encouragement.

Making Lists! - Things you wished you had in the hospital or at home after surgery!
Kindle replied to Jenkins's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All I brought was my iphone, iPad, Chargers and toothbrush/toothpaste. Didn't need anything else that the hospital didn't provide. Wore the same clothes home that I came in, including a hat so I didn't have to worry about brushing my hair. All postop meds were dispensed to me before I left. I actually went shopping for drinkable yogurt, pedialyte, Lifewater, decaf herbal tea and GasX strips on my drive home from the hospital. Already had Protein shakes, unflavored Protein powder and broth at home. -
@@dlappjr, Nutritionally, you can speed muscle recovery and glycogen (fuel) replenishment if you take in some nutrients within 15 to 60 minutes after finishing your workout. The goal is 4 grams of carbs for every gram of Protein. If it’s just a snack, you can aim for about 10 grams of protein plus 40 grams of carbs. For a meal, you can go for about 80 grams of carbs and 20 grams of protein. You could have Peanut Butter and whole grain toast, or whole grain cereal/oatmeal with milk, or a shake with Protein powder and fruit, or a sweet potato and Greek yogurt… As for the actual workouts: if you’re super sore, it could mean you worked super hard. Soreness peaks at 48 hours (2 days) post workout, so if you’re aiming to work the same muscles two days later, you’re probably still going to be sore. What you could do is switch up the muscle groups and workouts, so you’re not hitting the same muscles as hard until they’ve recovered more. You could also do cardio on your off days to get the blood flowing (and burn calories). Another thought is that you could be overtraining. If you’re really that sore, maybe your body just isn’t used to those kinds of workouts yet. That would mean either be patient until your body gets used to them (like take the extra day of recovery if you need it), or scale back on the workouts until your body is ready to hit it that hard without needing so much recovery. Anyway, good for you for working so hard! You will see great results if you keep it up!

Milk and bread? What? French toast? Protein drinks and bars and yogurt and string cheese. Coffee and wine no doubt. I could get by for awhile. Ok, chicken, broccoli and asparagus too!

Starting Over is Always Scary but Worth It !
Julie norton replied to DeborahDav's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I keep my band on the looser side. It makes ME struggle more. That is what makes me want to not give up. Keep on with the protein drinks, bars, jerkey, string cheese, yogurt, a few nuts ( like us) chicken thighs in liquid. And artichokes, bananas, salad etc. Throw in a new potatoe occasionally, chili, refried beans and avocado and there is my plan for many moons. Seems to work, but I gotta work at it !! -
I am almost through my first week of pre-op 6 months supervised diet. For me the dr calls it a sandwich diet. One week high Protein /low carb and two weeks clear liquid alternating. I found unflavored hemp protein to try but was wondering if anyone else has food allergies? I am allergic to caseins in dairy and eggs. Many protein drinks have egg albumin and of course whey is out. So many high protein suggestions are hard boiled eggs , yogurt , cottage cheese but I can't eat any of it. I feel like this is going to be a bigger challenge for me .

I was very restricted and literally a couple of bites would fill me. With dense Protein like chicken I still can only eat a few bites and I am full. If it is something really soft like yogurt I could maybe eat 1/4 cup and further down the road I was able to eat 1/2 cup. Even now 16 months later 1/2 cup cottage cheese will fill me or 2 to 3 oz. of meat. What you are experiencing is normal.

I cannot tolerate meat, so I tend to eat the same thing(s) every day. For lunch I either have a greek yogurt, babybel cheese, 1/2C cottage cheese, 1/4C cashews, Protein bar (Quest, atkins, etc.) or some type of Soup.

Pregnant 8 months post op
Kathy Coop replied to MaDz Al Hammadi's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
No problems. No morning sickness. Took my Prenatals in the gummy form because I couldn't swallow this big pills. I focused on getting as much protein down as I could have a little bit of dehydration because I couldn't drink large amounts and I live in a place that hits 113 degrees in the summer. Lots of swimming. Because of my surgery I did have a lot of extra appointments but everything was great. For me yogurts and a cheese went down best I put protein powder in my coffee (I am a vegetarian) taco Bell pintos and cheese was a serious lifesaver!!! The doctor explained to me kind of weird he said babies are like a tumor or like cancer they'll take what they want from you. They can thrive in crack whores!!! I was like.... Ok lol -

Post Surgery Foods You Can't Tolerate But Wish You Could
Cutwater replied to Cutwater's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm still on a pretty heavy Protein kick. I "front load" a lot of my protein early in the day with Greek yogurt (and a scoop of high quality protein) and either a Protein shake or Quest Protein Bar. I haven't found a ready made protein shake I can tolerate, so I mix my own with unsweetened almond milk. The one food group I'm enjoying more of is fresh fruit, but it has to be cold and I keep the portion size very reasonable. -

I had a huge waist too. I'm also at a 36 now. The only Greek yogurt I can eat is oikos triple zero. Yes nuts are the devil. I have issues with just eating away like it's nothing with them too. Glad your getting back on track. I weighed in at 193 today. -
I always have some almonds handy, but I like a good Quest protein bar or some Greek yogurt with a scoop of vanilla protein.

Another reason not to drink while eating is the liquid can empty the sleeve sooner and you will not stay full as long. Same reason they ask you to not get too comfortable in the soft food stage. Yogurts and applesauce will just slide right through your sleeve. You can do it! ????

Advice that makes you crazy.
Cari Dickenson replied to RoscoColetrain's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I lost 28 pounds on my pre op liquid diet ( only solids were cottage cheese and yogurt) It was pretty cool actually... Learn how to season... and Protein meat... best low carb low fat you can eat and its not horrible to just eat meat Its whats helping me kick fats butt right now Since surgery I have to use condiments.... For my meats... so be prepared for that... Cos even the slightest not moist meat will give you trouble. You got this!! Rock it! -
Will anything ever taste good again?
theladyslipper posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 2 weeks post sleeve and am mostly having premier protein shakes and a creamed of chicken protein soup when I'm feeling like something "savory." Every yogurt tastes very artificial and the puréed soup that I've made with protein powder (I like UnJury chicken soup protein powder) & liquified just tastes kind of terrible. Now I prayed that sugar would taste terrible to me post-op b/c I love sweets, but savory vegetable purées taste quite bad too. Has anyone else had this problem?? Does it ever go away?? -
Letty's journey post-op
Rdsegobia replied to Rdsegobia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well just wanted to give a quick update I'm up 2lbs from last time I weight on 1/10 - today I'm 189 lbs little disappointed, but I just think I need to change things since my weight is been stuck for couple of weeks. I will keep up with my 3 mile walks every day, however I will start doing 40 min workout during my lunch hour at work. I believe tomorrow is spinning will see how it goes. My eating have been good, I put in all the protein needed between 70-90 grams, water between 70-80 oz however I do see carbs have increase to 60-70 grams, but they are usually from beans, vegetables , yogurt and flaxseed. I'm going to stop eating beans at least for a while cause I been eating them with every meal, I used to have 1/4 cup per meal but now is closer to 1/2 cup. I also changed the yogurt which now has more carbs I should have never tried those in the first place cause now I want them, but they are the yoplait whips 100 calorie ones. I'm going back to chobani 100 calories or I'm going to look for the fage Greek yogurt. Other thing is the nuts of course those are my weakness but I will stop completely eating them since I cannot control the portion that I'm eating. I just know this is stopping the weight loss. Well on the bright side: I did not took measurements when I started my journey with the exception of my waist.... Well when I started my journey I had a HUGE waist of 52in and as of today is 36!!! that just makes my day ???????????? -
The truth is, I failed
A New KK replied to AmyFromCincy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hated the Protein shakes but managed to gag them down anyway. That is until someone posted about GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder. I mix it into sugar free pudding, sugar free hot cocoa etc. I've mixed in cottage cheese or yogurt into the Protein Shakes with a little sugar free jam and it turns out like a fruit milkshake. There are ways to get the protein in that is not so gross. I like ricotta cheese better than cottage cheese so I mix the protein powder into that and you can't even tell and 1 scoop adds 30 grams of protein. As hard as it is to eat, nothing tastes as good as thin feels. Buy yourself an nice outfit one size down and hang it on your bedroom door where you have to look at it several times a day. I find that a great motivating factor. I just go shopping in the back of my closet and decide what I want to fit in next. -
My dr does a 2 week pre op diet. 2 Meal Replacement shakes a day. 1 dairy snsck-Greek yogurt or cottage cheese. 2-3 cups vegetables and 3-4 ounces lean Protein, that can be split into 2 meals if desired. At the surgery class I think they said 1 hard boiled egg counts as 1 oz protein. Does this sound right? I bought a 2-pack of eggs at wawa this morning and it was 3 oz total. Thanks.
