    I just realized...

Of all the NSV's this is the best. You made me Boo Hoo!! I love the innocence of precious children. From what my mom tells me, grandkids are pretty awesome!! I loved the stairs NSV also. Just tonight I ran upstairs (our pc's are down) to call my bro and went right to the phone. After my SIL answered, I said, "You know, I too fat to run up the stairs and start talking on the phone". We both had a good laugh b/c it's the truth for both of us. :heh:

  3. I've been working out for many years, while trying to lose weight. But for a long time I've always felt, blah I guess I'll go to the gym. I mean I enjoyed listening to music and stuff while on the elliptical and stuff, but didn't love it. I've now gotten to the point, that I enjoy working out and find that if I don't work out I feel crappy and tired all day. I just feel lazy. On Friday, I took the day off, I usually take off Tuesday because I work in the morning and I get exhausted after work, though this past Tuesday I went to the gym, since I recently joined one that is open later. And on Friday since I didn't go, I slept in, and felt so lazy, and at work I just felt so tired and stuff. Today the gym and kickboxing were closed due to hurricane Irene so I couldn't go, and I've been feeling kind of lazy, and even took a short nap, so even though it was still drizzling and quite windy I went for an about hour long walk and just looked around to see if there was any damage and stuff. It made me much more awake. So for those of you who just feel obligated to work out, keep at it eventually you may do it just to feel better and you'll enjoy it!
  4. Tomorrow starts the one year mark for many of us! I hope everyone has had a great year, enjoyed your NSVs as well as your weight loss! Good luck in the coming year! Last week: 189 This week: 188 Down 1lb and I am sooo happy, the scale seems to be moving after that really long plateau!:crying:

    What Is Your Latest NSV?

My latest NSV was when I had to take in the band on my shoes (two holes smaller round my toe area and three holes smaller on the instep). These are shoes I wear every day for work and it was only when my hubby said I was wearing them like lose flip flops, that I tightened them. I was VERY shocked. How can you lose so much on your feet in the space of a few short weeks??!!

    My Victory!

    Yea NSV!!!!!
  7. I use my food diary to keep myself accountable. I'm sure most people don't review their food diary like I do, but I started my food diary because I wanted to be healthier, not just skinnier. I can look at my calories count and my macro-nutrients and know whether or not the scale will move. Initially it took time, but now it's a few seconds typically once in the morning and once at night. I learned how to balance my sodium, sugars and carbs and how it would effect my body. I was also able to identify food allergies and intolerances that were showing up on allergy testing. Once I figured out how to balance these things I felt better, had fewer allergy attacks and tons more energy. Like @@Kindle said NSV's mean so much more than the numbers on the scale for me.

Okay, now I'm confused. Got on the scale again today and it showed a 1 pound LOSS from last week. It was even after lunch and having water. I don't get this. Maybe I'd actually retained water in vegas because of the heat. My intern got another job today making more than me. I'd actually referred him to this fella that calls me all the time about jobs. I usually turn him down because these jobs are "contract to permanent" with no benefits and I'm all about stability with my band loans and all. But I usually can refer him to someone in the field who's looking so he keeps calling. Anyhow, Dustin told me he was interviewing the other day and today (during the shoot) he got the call that he had, in fact, gotten the job. He'll be making 53k a year. I suppose that's not more than me if you count benefits and retirement. I'm glad for him. This will help his wife and kids out, not to mention he can go to school at UVSC and get a better education for his field than he's getting at Weber. I think I'll stay where I am for awhile while I go back for my P.A. degree. May as well as long as I get free tuition and fees. SCALE: 233.5 at upstairs gym (what the heck???) (230 at doctor's office) EXERCISE: Length: 52 minutes (30 minutes Arc trainer, 22 minutes treadmill) Time: 7:00 PM (entered gym) to 8:00 PM (left gym) Intensity: Steady State Activity: Arc Trainer & Treadmill Calories burned start to finish: ~382 Calories burned 1 hour after activity: 201 (but I fixed the lawn mower and made dinner) FOOD: BF: None (woke up early for shoot and left w/o breakfast) L: Tropical Chicken Salad "sandwich" on cabbage D: Grilled Pork Souvlaki, loaded salad w/ egg & homemade dressing S: Wendy's fix 'n mix frosty CALORIES BURNED: 2,964 CALORIES CONSUMED: 1,079 CALORIE DEFECIT: 1,885 NSV: Co-worker told me when I came in today that I looked like a movie star and like "totally skinny". She said she didn't even know it was me coming through the door. What a sweetie.
  9. I finally have some NSV's I thought I'd share with you guys:- 1. After a year I can finally wear my wedding and engagement rings again. My fingers swelled up last summer and so I took them off. I thought all would be well again after the summer, but it wasn't just swelling...it was fat and I couldn't get them on again! Now they twist around and it's just nice to see them there again. 2. I actually stood to do my laundry today. I have a top loader washing machine and when I want to put clothes on the airer I always had to sit down because my back ached so much. Twice today I did laundry and only when I finished the second lot did I realise there wasn't a chair in sight. 3. My sugar levels are in normal levels for the whole day. For someone who couldn't get her levels down no matter what she did this thing in itself is worth having the band for. 4. I threw away the extension belt hubby bought me for the car when I realised I could open the glove compartment without undoing my belt. 5. There is no-more belt to fasten on my tie-belt pants and they are still loose. 6. I can leave food on my plate without obsessing about it for hours later. Things are changing regularly now and I am really beginning to feel good about myself and about what I am doing to help myself and that hasn't happened for the longest time. There are some things I'm looking forward to, like actually needing clothes in a smaller size because even with elastication they are falling off but I now believe it can happen and that too is a definite victory. :biggrin1:

"doin the dirty" is sooo much better now!

I have found that I can orgasm now from oral stimulation. Ok, like many others said TMI but...on topic. I never was able to " get there" before, although I still enjoyed the effort. Now I can reach climax in minutes! It amazed me and my partner. ( who has been around before the weight loss) Another NSV that I REALLY like!!! LOL
  11. NSV's around on this post! Yea!Karen

What a lovely nsv and one of the best!

    A crazy NSV

Haha that's kind of funny and amazing too, that it's only taken you 6 months for that huge of a change. If you were bigger for a long time I think it's kinda natural for it to take a while for people to adjust to a smaller frame on you. Try to see it as a positive nsv, cuz they still love you. I have heard of a lot of ppl catching glimpses of themselves in a window and realizing it was them and not someone else too. Thats both strange and funny. Post-op must be a wild trip!! I can hardly wait for the ride.

    Scared...gastric Sleeve Surgery

I think it's totally normal. I am having mine a day after you and while I am not terrified, I am alternating between nervousness, fear of complications, fear of losing my food, and excitement and thinking about hopeful NSVs. Then I have the thought that I will be like the ONE person for whom this doesn't work... Just keeps rotating, I feel really self-absorbed!!!
  16. Unreasonable expectations are the ultimate downfall of so many bariatric patients. This author is fortunate that all the misconceptions did not ultimately sabotage her weight loss success. I also agree that the non-scale struggles, such as relationships, are minimized, and that the NSV's are often overemphasized in support groups, blogs, and in other places. At the end of the day, if weight is the only thing that changes, it is still a great thing to have had done, but people need to be prepared for the fact that, just as with the weight loss itself, if the patient doesn't make a conscious effort to change the game, it is perfectly foreseeable that nothing else will change.
  17. wow! these nsv stories are better than hearing about pounds! these are wonderful!!! we can all relate to them and omg you guys make me laugh!! i'm getting banded tomorrow at 8 am. i should of read some of these a long time ago, just what i needed to here. lisa6
  18. I had my first true NSV yesterday. I made a small road trip out of town to visit an old friend. I was trying to figure out what to wear, and decided to break open my under-the-bed storage bin with my "skinny" clothes on the small chance that something might fit. I was able to fit into one of my most favorite outfits ever, and it fit me perfectly. I haven't been able to wear this outfit since I graduated college in 2006. I was so happy!!

    A crazy NSV

"Ok I'm a loser...what does NSV stand for????" ________________ I was right there with you fatBgone! I had no idea what NSV stood for in this forum. I knew it probably was not: ----- Non Scalpel Vasectomy NullSoft Streaming Video - a popular codec in my geek world Net Sales Value The NSV 12.7mm a Soviet made heavy machine gun or Non Specific Vaginitis: which I suppose could be crazy (especially since I have no Vagina) but didn't seem to fit the message. Non scale Victory works for me... --- Speaking of scales, I have a GREAT scale I bought from Amazon that weighs accurately up to 500 lbs...I will post a link to it in another topic. Only problem is it will tell you (in a really loud voice) how much one weighs...
  20. So true. I lost ALOT of weight on MANY of the diets I tried. I could lose, just not for long. And what I lost in 3 months could be gained back in a week, no joke! Among those I've tried: Jenny Craig ... Grew tired of the packaged food quickly, and was discouraged by the very slow losses. New Direction and Optifast ... These worked great, as they were liquids only; gained it all back as soon as I went back to work. The Diet Center ... I did this plan a couple of times. It worked extremely well the first time (back in the late 80's) and I thought I could stick with the new eating lifestyle forever; I couldn't. Atkins ... Also worked well, but same issue as above. Diet pills ... They were ok when I was younger; less tolerance for them and less results as I got older. Plus I would get too snappy. Hcg ... Actually would work well, just could never stick with it long enough to get to goal. Nutrisystem .... See Jenny Craig above, The Beverly Hills Diet ... Does anyone remember that one? Or am I giving away my age? Lol. Anyway, I fainted and gave up on that. Those are just my majors, lol. I had tried probably every diet out there before being saved by the band. My biggest NSV with the band is the freedom of mind from the dieting mentality I lived with every day since my teens.
  21. Have you ever picked out a piece of clothing or whole outfit that was not your size, but you liked it so much you bought it for when you can finally wear it? I found this ordinary shirt at Dicks Sporting Goods while shopping for a few things. I was going from a 5xl to a 4xl and looking for Under Armor stuff for working out. I ended up not finding anything online, but while in their store, I found a 2XL Reebok 2 snap henley that, for whatever reason, just struck me as a great looking shirt. So I did what anybody would do when they find a shirt they love but don't make in their size. I bought it. It's still folded with its tags on in my dresser, waiting for the day I fit it. so, have you done something similar?
  22. For the past couple of years as weight has piled on I have not been able to wear most shoes. Most shoes cut into my foot and cause me much pain. I have resulted to wearing soft leather loafers. In fact, I finally found a pair of Michael Kors loafers that I could wear comfortable and bought every color. So, they have been my shoe collection this fall and winter. Christmas of 2011, my mother bought me a beautiful pair of black leather ankle boots. I could never fit them. They just sat in my closet on the shelf. I threw away most of my other shoes thinking I would never wear "regular" shoes again. Anyway, I tried on the ankle boots this morning and WHAM they fit! My foot fit right in!! In less than 2 weeks, this very significant part of my life has changed! So off I go! Shoe shopping!!!

My FIRST Before/After Pic (May Sleever)

You look fabulous! And you're wearing your ID badge on your waist. That's something I've been secretly craving to do forever! That right there is a major NSV! In fact, I'm putting it on my post op bucket list right now! Congratulations!
  24. Hello! I just thought maybe I could share some of my post VSG surgery, with some of the NSVs that I've had so far in three months..! 1. I cannot believe how many jeans I can no longer use because they just don't fit me! They keep hanging and not even wearing a belt helps me much because it simply looks way oversized... I'm so glad that it means that I've been clearly losing weight, but now I have to buy many pair of jeans..! hahah 2. I used to be traumatized with my arms because I thought they looked too big and unflattering.. But thanks to the weight loss, I don't feel scared to use a sleeveless shirt or dress anymore.., even a sort of skin rash I used to have is now gone!<3 3. Huge confidence boost? I know I don't look like my very thin friends, but I feel so comfortable in my skin that I cannot help but to be so happy and optimistic! I will keep losing weight and hopefully I will eventually accept how my new me looks like and move on from the idea that I still look like old me.. I am so delighted with my results.. Hopefully more NSVs will keep arriving<3
  25. Yes you read that right. I've had to go through my closet and bag up suits. At least 3 huge black garbage bags full of them. I am on a biz trip now and we were trying on my smaller suits. After creating enough for one more garbage bag, my husband and I celebrated every time we found one that was still too TIGHT because I could at least save that and count on being able to wear it soon! How WEIRD is that??! In the old days I would have been so depressed that they were tight, but now they're my insurance that I don't have to go shop quite yet (unless it's for books, electronics, or gadgets, I HATE shopping). Side note, my husband's life has changed too. My son and he were joking about getting hookers to come over while I was traveling. I reminded him that these days, his version of naughty was going to be ordering a pizza :-D It wouldn't be so funny if it weren't also true. Anyway, happy about my clothes! What are your NSVs of things that might have made you sad but now make you happy? Another for me is not eating cake. Would have made me sad, but now it makes me happy.
