    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

TESS - congrats on the NSV, new scrubs for work and a few sized smaller.. I know we all probably had our OOPS moments over this past weekend, but I agree Today is a new day..!! I have not been on the scale since last tuesday and am dreading it this morning, but have to do it for my own mental check in. Hope I at least remain the same with no gain!! I'll know soon.

    Wow! Nsv!

I am three weeks post-op and have been noticing my clothes fitting looser and a flattening of my tummy, stuff like that, BUT..... Today I was woke up and my wedding ring (which is close to 100 years old and is a family heirloom) was hanging on the end of my finger over the edge of the bed! It is sooooo loose! I had to put another smaller band on over it just to keep it on my finger! I will take it up and have it resized later but will stick with this method for now since I hope to continue to lose weight. In nearly 100 years, it has never been resized. I am almost afraid to do it but want to continue to wear this set.

    Thanksgiving Week Review...and a NSV!

11-30-08 I went shopping yesterday. My jeans are getting big. I went to Lane Bryant and I tried on a 5P. They were loose....very comfortable if this was the weight I was staying at. I tried on a 4P and they fit! Then I thought I was trying on a size 22 coat. (I usually would look for a 24 or 26.) I thought it was okay.....just a little tiny bit small, but something I could definitely wear and I could grow into it through the winter. I looked at the tag again and realized that I couldn't afford it...then I realized it was actually a size 18-20! I couldn't believe it! Then I went to JC Penny's and the 2x was too small...:glare:...Oh well I think I'll focus on my NSV at Lane Bryant. I used to love that store and now I can't wait until I can't shop there anymore!!! I only lost a pound for the last week. I shouldn’t complain about only losing 1 pound because I couldn’t go to the gym since last Tuesday and I had Thanksgiving and a trip with “the girls” to the dinner theatre last night. I also can eat anything I want. What I am doing now I am doing almost on my own. I can tell if eat really big bites really fast, but I can eat SO MUCH! I know I shouldn’t. I am eating healthy food and sticking to my calories and such. I am still getting too much protein. I don’t understand why when I called the office and said that I was getting hungry about 3 hours after meals they asked if I was drinking protein shakes. They recommend to drink shakes between meals. I really don’t understand that. I’ll have to ask about in 4 days when I go in for my first fill. I am hoping for restriction just like everyone does, but I know the odds are against that I will get much with the first fill. I’ll let you know how it goes.

    Christmas Goals

Hi everyone - I just had my 9 month visit today, and I'm officially down 50 pounds in the last year (10 were before banding). I am completely excited. With that 50 pounds, I have a new NSV - bought a dress at banana Republic...yes...me?!?!?! I couldn't believe it. It's a purple XL knit dress with a fold-over neck and I look terrific in it. I don't think I've ever been able to wear a dress from that shop before!!! But just buying it keeps me motivated! I'm going to wear it to a Christmas concert in the cathedral on Dec. 11th. That brings me to this thread. Today I weighted 203 lbs. Down 50 and halfway to my final goal of 153. My goal for Christmas is to weigh less than 200 lbs. Does anyone else have Christmas goals that they are shooting for? Anna

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Happy Belated Thanksgiving Everyone! Sounds as if everyone had a great day! With my family, a holiday is never just one day but a multiple, this time a three day feast! I did ok, wt up 2 lbs yesterday and already 1 of those is gone, so thinking some was just water. I had a nsv too. I had cleaned out my closet and taken the clothes that were too large for me. I had intended to give them to my mother and sister who have always been about the same size as me. I was pleasantly surprised to find that most were too small for them and fit my neice (22). I'm glad someone can use them regardless. And they are out of my closet never to return! Good luck So and Joanne on your upcoming surgeries! Hope everyone has a great day! Hugs, Pat

HUGE NSV for me today! I had the energy to climb up and down the ladder 10,000 times to hang Christmas lights outside!!!!! My house looks so festive for the first time in YEARS!!!!!!!!!!

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

I hope Tess and Harley are back to feeling 100% - this is hardly the time of year to be feeling unwell! Well, it looks as if I was the one who let the team down T-day! I probably took in a good 2000 cals, but because of my weight, that was hardly the end of the world, and I have no doubt I lost on the day. I do have some restriction now, something I've been reminded of twice in the last couple of days. Friday I wolfed down a piece of leftover turkey with white bread and a bit of mayo - apparently not enough mayo because it got stuck and was rejected. And last night I was in Madison Square Park (a public garden, not an arena) and went to the shake Shack (a kind of trendy, high quality take-out place in the park) where I got a hot dog. Which also got stuck - luckily it was dark and cold, and no one saw me sending it back the other way into the garbage. I'm slowly coming to terms with this thing, and that I can't gulp stuff down like a gannet! I actually have to follow the guidelines if I want to continue to thrive. I'm losing weight - I had to tighten my belt another notch yesterday (small NSV!). I'll weigh in tomorrow morning at my office, then tomorrow night I get on a plane, and will be in Paris until Xmas day. And we shall just SEE how I do there. I think I'll do quite well - I mentioned I'd met someone online, and we're going to meet for the first time on the 26th or 27th, when she'll be visiting NYC. It'll be interesting to see which is stronger, the allure of the perfect pastry, or the possibility of love! I don't know how often I'll be on for the next few weeks - I haven't yet had internet service installed in my apartment. I have to finish writing this damn thing, and I didn't want to be distracted by anything. Now I'm thinking I don't want to be isolated over the holidays, so... we shall see!

Belated Happy Thanksgiving to all. I haven't been on in a couple of days. I too just ate a little bit of what I wanted and a sliver of pumpkin pie. It was way less than I usually eat on the holiday. Tess I hope you feel better and Harley you too. You both had some great NSV's. Harley I love the dress and you only paid what???? I had 3 pairs of pants in the closet that I bought at a sale 4 years ago and never got to wear them cause the weight was going up and now they fit perfectly. Ah such a good feeling. Have a good weekend everyone.

Harley - WOW what a beautiful dress and dirt cheap too. You will be smokin hot at your Christmas party. Fenton - Buy some clothes that fit. I know I look a bit dumpy in bigger clothes now. I know it is hard being in this in-between stage. I may wear a shirt that fits and a pair of pants that are to big. It drives me crazy. I am getting ready to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade with my DS. It is a tradition with us. I would love to actually go to NY and see it one day. I will be at my DH family for lunch and then to my parents for dinner. I will see family that I have not seen for quite a while at both places. (I will definetly wear clothes that fit) NSV - We took my DS and some of his friends to Dollywood (Dolly Parton's amusement park in TN) for DS birthday. I was able to ride all the rides. WOOT!!! I even rode an upside down roller coaster. (although I may never ride one again:ohmy:) Have a great turkey day. I know there are many things to be thankful for, but my band is way up there on the list.

Hi Everyone, I know what everyone means when people say that you are getting skinny. It is now happening to me on a daily basis. It is wierd to hear all of the positive statements. I am learning to say thank you. My NSV is that I am now also into an 18 and that is getting too big. Now that I am down 82 pounds since 3/27/08 I am finally believing that I can accomplish my goals.

NSV - sizes are always a great scale... down to a size 12 in pants and almost in shirts. Feel great. My wardrobe budget has taken a hit, but enjoy shopping now and even trying things on in the stores..and don't forget, getting those compliments from friends and family are great too. GOBBLE, GOBBLE..enjoy everyone

Tess--congrats on wearing the sweater! I am sure your friend is just as happy for you as we all are! Sorry about you having to work the holiday, too! harleygirl--WOW! That dress is beautiful! Where did you buy it from? Not that I could wear it now, or even ever in a size 12, but it is really beautiful! My NSV was heading "home" to Toledo last week for the birth on my niece and having people who have not seen me in a while say things like "wow, you look really great. The last few pounds have really made a difference!" People at work are talking about it too. I laugh when they call me skinny. I am a size 18! But compared to where I was last year, I must look that way!

Happy Thanksgiving to All!!! I am working Thursday and Friday....so, I don't think I'll get into too much trouble. Just me and my Lean Cuisine Turkey!!!!! My latest NSV ( just for you Fenton)- 3 years ago my best friend bought me a beautiful sweater and turtleneck set. I just loved it, and when I put it on I got it as far as over my head!!!! Actually, i stretched it so wide I barely could pull in down over my chest!!!! I come across it every few months when I get donation and garage sale things together, I just couldn't part with it.... I wanted to wear it because it was a perfect color for me!!!! So, I just kept it in storage. Last week, I went on a hunt and found it... got it out... put it on... NOT ONLY DOES IT FIT...IT IS LOOSE ON ME!!!! OMG!!! I am wearing it with pride!!! I even had to text my friend and tell her it fit!!!

Y'know, looking at people's tickers here, I have to say that I'm really impressed - you guys have done a FANTASTIC job! I started from a much higher weight than you, and lost quickly at first, then backslid, but you guys have just held steady, losing the weight. You've done amazingly well - but I'm sure you know that. I want to hear more NSV stories! Why the heck isn't that item hopping, women???

    Happy Bandiversary to me!!!

Well I am late to the party here but... Congratulations. We go into this with high hopes and expectations... But like me I kept it in the back of my mind that it may not happen like I hoped... Well it does for the most part and you have done a fabulous job. The best NSV's are the ones you listed about medication and how much your life has improved. I am sure you will make many more discoveries in the next year to come. Once again congrats and it's stories like yours that give all new bandsters hope
  20. I started seeing an endocrinologist in August 2004. I was diagnosed as Insulin Resistant Diabetic, type two. Which basically meant I had a real difficult form of diabetes to treat. There are just a few meds that help a Lot. And unfortunately they have awful side effects. And none are pregnancy safe. So when I was pregnant with the twins I was on HUGE doses of insulin to get my sugars down. Thankfully the twins were healthy in that respect. I have been on the shots since the boys were born in 2006. We tried metformin for about 2 months, and I was so sick. So I went on byetta. When I had the band placed they took me off it. I was told to try it. So I did. I have had some days that made me nervous. But I went to my regularly scheduled endocrinology appt. I've dropped 46 pounds (by my scales) since I last saw him. I had my band placed since I last saw him. I was a nervous wreck. I went in, with about a weeks worth of sugars. (I don't write them down that often). I was informed I can stop taking my sugars so often. I was also told I no longer need him. I have been released as a patient. However, if the need arises, he is there for me. But he thinks with all I'm doing, and how well the band is working for me, I will not need him again. So My NSV is I lost weight, and that caused me to loose my endocrinologist... whom I really liked. Teri:thumbup:

Weeell, I'm going to come right out and admit that I don't know what NSV stands for. When I see NSV, I think Nonsynonymous Variant. But - I think I get the point at least... two weeks ago someone at the gym started asking me questions, I realized a few minutes alter they mistook me for someone that worked there. Yes, I had a gym shirt on - thus the mistake - but a year ago theres no WAY that mistake could have happened. I can wear my life long skinnier than me friends' clothes. Another friend of mine, who joked about my weight for years, ran out of breath and had to stop 10 minutes into a run. I acted like it was ok, but ran an extra 20 just for good measure : P I can finally fight in the same weight class as people under 6'2. I ordered a water to drink from a restaurant and the waiter didn't visibly get the idea that he wasn't going to get a tip.

    Hello Missouri

It sure has been quite on here for a while. I guess everyone must be loosing and doing well. Iam down to 177 from my high of 250. Was a the doctor a week a ago and he says that I did not need a fill since Iam well and need not to come back for another 4-6 months. The wife is doing ok but is having some problems. She goes in this week to have her gall bladder checked. Dr. Minkin says that about 35-45% of his people that have not had there gall bladder out before surgery will have it taken out sometime after having the band due to the weight loss. So will know more in the next couple of weeks. Well it's about that time of the year again to start thinking about what you want to do for next year. I can say that out of the list we had made we did keep up with one item and that was to loose weight all year long. SO us us that is a great NSV and enjoying it. Well I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and Christams. Chris __________________
