  1. I just signed up for my first 5K race (on Mother's Day!) and suddenly I'm so emotional that I'm shaking. I've done several 5Ks in the past, both before and after my lapband in 2013 (lost 95 lbs, got pg then gained it all back plus more), but I just can't believe I'm back and going to be able to do this again! I'm in tears thinking about how much I've changed in the past year (sleeved on 3/26/21), and I'm so proud that I'm bursting. I'm half way through week 4 of Couch to 5K and things are going awesomely. I'm scared too, though, because I have fears that I'll tear something or get injured. And anyone who did C25K before knows the dreaded 20 min run is next week. I'm trying to be super careful and methodical about my stretching before and after training so I can continue running. It makes me feel invincible.

    Update On Me (Surgery: 5/19/21)

UPDATE: I go in this week for another regular check up with my family doc and so today he had me get my cholesterol and my A1C done again. My LDL was 137 which is weird cause it was 135 in September. I would think it would have improved and gone down more. NOT go up.....even if it isn't up by much. My A1C was 5.6 down from 5.8 in September. I would have thought that would have gone down more too. Especially since last March it was 6.7 and went to 5.8 in September last year. BIG difference in just 6 months. So why was this last 6 months not so good? Also been stalled for about that same amount of time. These things make me think even more that maybe I should have stayed at my normal Metformin dose so I'll definitely be talking about that this week with my doctor. As much as I wanted to come off the meds it just may have been too soon. EDITED TO ADD: So even though I have an appointment with him this week he called me to go over the results already. He said my sugar numbers are excellent and responding well but the cholesterol isn't responding as well but it isn't terrible. Anyway, he mentioned Metformin and my weight loss and stuff and then I briefly said that I wanted to discuss it and why and he then mentioned that there are better medications than Metformin that accomplish the same stuff for my sugars but also help with weight loss so we'll talk about that this week too. Not sure what medication he is thinking about but I guess I'll see.

    How long for incision pain?

I had RNY on 3/3, so I'm two days behind you, but -- yeah, I still have plenty of abdominal pain, which seems to be both internal and external. It's major surgery, and I didn't expect healing to be complete in a week. If you're not having any other symptoms of trouble, just take your meds, the most important one being a healthy dose of Tincture of Time. Good luck!
  5. Hello! I love coming back to this thread and reading all the ways ya'll are experiencing life anew post-surgery. Life is bananas for me and all the shares here are a great reminder of the many reasons I had this surgery at a time when I am often too busy to do much of my own reflection. So...thank you to everyone that has taken time to share the wonderful and weird ways you are experiencing life post WLS. My latest NSV is an emotional/psychological win around internalized food and body shame. I have owned a food scale for years and for all those years I felt ashamed about using it, judging myself as so "out of control" that I couldn't manage healthy portions on my own. Rather than a simple tool, I viewed it as a symbol of a failed out-of-control relationship to food. I had a hard time using the food scale because I was embarrassed to keep it in sight or use it in front of anyone. Fast forward to last week...when I got so fed up with other people in my household putting my food scale deep in the cupboard that I taped a sign to it and wrote in bold sharpie "I USE THIS, PLEASE LEAVE ON THE COUNTER FOR ME". Felt zero shame or hesitancy in doing this, just happy to solve the annoying problem of one of my essential tools being hidden away from me. This feels like one of my most important NSVs.
  6. I think 22lb is great. Well done! Are you still losing? Are you enjoying your life? Remember, if you lose 1lb a week, that's your goal weight by next summer. Relax, smile, have a cookie.
  7. Vegetables also have carbs, so do dairy and lentils/beans. So it really depends. Plus, like few others mentioned, even my program isn't restrictive on carbs or fats or calories. My protein and carbs content more or less align in numbers. So you shouldn't get too bogged down with numbers unless you're eating heavy load of calories. I feel your workout sessions are heavy 1-3 hrs starting in about 5 weeks in. Though your program recommendation may be different. With such heavy workout, you also have to take into account muscle mass which may be replacing your fat loss. Hence slower weight loss. Personally speaking, such exhausting workout, only a month after surgery, sounds a bit too much for me. But if it's working out for you, might as well.

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

We’re surgery twins! Uncomfortable best describes the feeling, for sure. I weighed in on the day of surgery at 267 and today I’m 260. Yesterday I was able to get all my protein in before 2pm. Hoping to do the same today. It definitely takes focus and intention to reach the prescribed numbers. This isn’t exactly a walk in the park, is it?! Do you have trapped air like I do - around the collarbone/shoulders/neck? It’s a little better today but not gone. I’m so excited to get to the 2 week mark - I think most discomfort will subside by then. I’m content right now with the full liquid diet. Have you been taking pain meds? I can’t sleep without them yet. I was doing fine on the IV Tylenol in the hospital but being home I’m taking the 5mg Oxy and 500mg oral Tylenol every 6 hours. What did they give you for pain? Have you had a bm yet? My incisions have been itchy, which is a good sign of healing but annoying at the same time.

    6 month over

Dear all, IT has been 6 month and 2 weeks after my gastric sleeve. I lost 28 kg and I am looking and feeling great. I fit in very tiny outfit and I can wear whatever I want. I went from size 50 to size 36. Please trust this surgery, take your suplements and dare to change your life around. Sent from my CLT-L29 using BariatricPal mobile app
  11. 3 week stall is what we call it out here, you can search for it on the forum. Majority of us have gone through it. So have I. I lost weight a week after surgery when I was clear fluids, but 3 weeks nada. I stalled for 3 weeks with no weight changes and thereafter it started coming down. Even after the first month, your weight comes down in steps than a constant decline. So you’ll have those phases when you won’t see much movement on the scale.
  12. I'm 7 weeks out now and have travelled absolutely perfectly (and will do so tomorrow too). Don't plan on any big meals. Although...ever really.

    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

I spent a lot of time today looking for the vitamins I will be taking after the surgery. I was reading the packet I got from my surgeon and there was a lot of details I needed to go over to make those decisions. I had started a vitamin regimen based on some YouTube videos I watched, but after getting into the nitty gritty of it I realized I was going to need much higher dosages than what was recommended. It took me some time to balance out what I needed for the amount of money it will cost me every month. As I was doing this it made me feel much better about the care I am going to give myself after the surgery which greatly reduced any anxieties I was having. I’ve got about 3 weeks to go (My surgery is April 4th) and I’m planning on concentrating on preparing for my post-op needs.
  14. After years of consideration I am going to gave gastric bypass surgery. I have a great doctor and will discuss this with her in a few weeks. I have very good insurance and the freedom to choose from a wide variety of surgeons. I am grateful. Is anyone from the San Diego area who can give a recommendation on a bariatric surgeon? I know my doctor will have info but I’d really love to hear from GP patients as well. Thanks
  15. My classmate had his hernia on his navel operated on. And he then refrained from using CBD oil two weeks before the operation. He wasn't sure that the use of cannabis was prohibited before the operation in which he'd be given general anesthesia. He just stopped using it just in case it didn't cause any complications. Best Oklahoma dispensaries where he buys CBD oil supplies products to many people. I think good pharmacists are working in this company. So you can ask them a question on the hotline if you're very interested or worried about it! Good luck. I hope everything will be fine.
  16. I am a year out so I eat more at a time than I did when I was three months out but I eat on the same schedule. I eat breakfast at 9, lunch at 12, snack at 3, dinner at 6 And snack at 9. That way I am eating every three hours. And yes i do feel hungry in between but usually I am able to wait the hour and a half or whatever since I know what time I will be eating next.
  17. I had no energy issues after about 3 weeks post-VSG. Have fun!

I’m 6 weeks from surgery and the wait is killing me! I decided to start lifting weights 🏋️‍♀️ so that I can start the healthy lifestyle process now.
  19. Hi all. I'm scheduled for VGS early May and have an overseas trip planned for end of July (11 weeks later). I'm concerned about my energy level, etc. Anyone care to share your 3 month post op travel experiences? Thanks in advance
  20. Wow. these pics and the info I'm learning about others' eating habits are quite educational, but this is also so frustrating for me!!! Everyone talks about how full they get... why don't I get full?????? Why can I eat a normal portion and no one else can? Isn't my stomach supposed to be miniscule??? You'd think I was this mega eater and weighed in at 500 lbs prior, but totally not. I was 220 before my pre-op diet, 210 at surgery (sleeve), and 200 a week later. and... drumroll... that's where I remain, 5 weeks later. I'm trying to be very careful with what I eat and I purposely give myself smaller portions, but even if I'm eating lean meats (chicken, tuna) and vegetables, I'm not getting full after 5 bites like every one else. I can't understand it. I should not be able to hold more than a 1/2 cup of food, right? It's a mystery to me (a REALLY frustrating one!).

WLS (sleeve) schedule for 4/26th 😁

Oh wow. I hate that you went thru that. I'm glad I'm choosing to take off 2 weeks instead of just one.

    7 weeks post surgery

I am 6 weeks post surgery and have struggled as well. Eating period has been difficult for me and I figured it was a result of my hiatal hernia repair. I am not able to eat much at all and have had a hard time with transitioning through the stages. I have not been able to successfully handle anything aside from yogurt, jello, soup, pudding or applesauce. People have suggested maybe it is dairy, maybe I am eating foods with too much acidity, eating too fast, etc. But Caloric intake was never discussed. I believe as long as you are getting your Protein and Liquid intake, you should be fine. Kay_G_B
  23. Hi , I am 7 weeks post surgery . The surgeon found I had a hiatus hernia which he fixed along with tightening the muscle . One day after surgery I got oesophageal spasms which was extremely painful so they knocked me out by a drip for 4 days until they got it under control. My sleeve seems to be successful but am often still have feelings of faintness , and tiredness. also am wondering if someone can share what and how much they eat during the day . I think I am only getting 400 to 500 calories . I am also suffering from head hunger at night and am nibbling at cashews to try and satisfy it . The weight loss has been good and to have loss this much weight without the sleeve would have been torture and been less than half the weight loss . I don’t regret doing this but sometimes feel it is quite hard .

    My experience… sleeved on 1/22/22

Hey all- sorry I have been MIA. I’m not gonna lie- I went to a dark place. This thread seemed to change from me well us sharing our experiences post sleeve to people complaining about the financial side or honesty telling me I was wrong and other pointed comments in my inbox. So I took a break. But there were quite a few of you who are so supportive and I’m sorry I ghosted. Here’s my update I’m almost two months (roughly a week shy of 2 months) out and down a total of 36 pounds. I go to the gym 3-5 times a week and do quite a bit of weight lifting and cardio. I feel so much better. I’m down two pant sizes which is fantastic. Lately I’ve been having odd soreness in my lower back and shoulders so I contacted my nurse- she thought it was that my body was still holding it’s self like I had those 36 pounds still. She recommended I get a massage- hey doctors orders I’m not gonna say no to a little pampering. But honestly it worked. No longer am I sore in odd places. I hope you all are doing well on your journey and remember every body is different with the loss. Listen to yours and your care team.

    Wendy’s salads

Okay I just tried it for lunch based on your recommendation and I agree. I usually don’t even like vinigarette dressings but I loved it and of course the little candied pecans are delicious too. I am interested to know how they figure it has 39 grams of protein though cause it didn’t seem like alot of chicken. I know nuts have protein too but still. I question that it was that much protein. I think I may take it home and weigh it next time out of curiosity. Maybe it’s cause it’s cut in cubes instead of strips it just doesn’t look like as much?? Or maybe because I ordered it without blue cheese and they made it in a hurry they put less chicken on? Ooh well either way it’s very good and only 10 minutes away from me so I’m sure I will be back. I’m thinking Parmesan Cesar next time. 👍. i just checked Walmart and Publix online and they don’t carry the dressing, Amazon does but you have to get three bottles. Idk why they do that.
