  1. I haven't tried the torani sf syrups yet, what flavor have you tried with yogurt? Never thought about the sf jello I need to try it!
  2. I have been feeling very bloated ever since I started on thick liquids. Gonna try cutting out the mio and just drink plain water. Also gonna try more soups and adding protein to increase my calories as opposed to drinking two premier protein shakes a day. Will have one for breakfast and then do soups for lunch and dinner, and try and fit in a Greek yogurt or 1/2 cup of pudding which I've also added protein to either before or after dinner. My calories have been around 500, protein 60+. Thinking if I increase my calories more the scale might start moving. Haven't weighed myself since last Thursday but I don't feel like I've lost anything and my clothes aren't any looser. Was planning to wait until end of the month before I step on the scale. Is it too much if I can already get in 700 or 800 calories at two and a half weeks out???

Post sleeve comfort foods -roll call!

Yo, ProYo! JohnZ54, is there any soy in this treat? I am EXTREMELY allergic to soy and the damn stuff is in just about everything. Thank YOU. Valentina Hello, it's a lil off topic but what is your reaction if you consume soy? My 8 year daughter is also extremely allergic to soy. She has vomiting and diarrhea. On another note, Healthy Choice also has a Greek frozen yogurt. I've found in the frozen foods section with the Healthy Choice section.

  5. Greek yogurt is good mixed with Torani SF syrups or try SF jello. ❤️????
  6. I got my sleeve on January 13th, a friend and I got it on the same day. Anyways we are on the liquid stage and I just don't get full. She says with a couple of spoon fulls she feels like she ate a huge burger. I, on the other hand, just don't feel full?! I feel like the surgery failed and I hate it. How am I suppose to learn how much to eat if I don't have that restriction everyone gets? Has anyone else experienced this? Please help! I don't want to have to go through all this for nothing. I don't want to stretch my sleeve but so far all I eat is yogurt, water, and occasionally some soggy cereal!

Great tip* as I mention before I changed the Greek yogurt I was eating, I now eat Fage total 0% Greek yogurt and honestly it doesn't taste that great, however today while I was drinking my Crystal light drink I started thinking what about if I add some of the crystal light powder to the yogurt to make it sweet. I have the fruit punch crystal light and oh my I was in heaven I absolutely love it!! This will be my dessert from now on. The nutrition facts on this Greek yogurt are awesome!! That one cup serving could be for my mid snack and afternoon snack, just that 1 cup will be 23 grams of protein????

okay you northerners.. WE actually got snow flurries here in Sunny Florida.. You know we were freaking out. but they didn't close schools or interstates.. I am not a cold weather person, that is why I live here. I feel bad for you all when it gets to the point of closing cities and transportation. We have had that problem with hurricanes. I like the comments about what to stock up on.. I think I would have to do yogurt, cheese, eggs and definitely coffee.. p.s. Debbie your son is very handsome, I know you are proud of him .

    Protein & Water Concerns

Isn't it ironic that I could drink a 2 litre of Pepsi with a meal and another at bedtime (with chips or pizza) but I had to train myself to drink that much Water in a 24 hour period? My routine now is to drink a 10 oz cup of green tea (with ginger, tumeric and lemon) with my morning meds and supplements. That takes me about twenty minutes. Then I drink 10 oz. of water before my morning exercise. After exercise I drink 10 ounces of a Protein shake. If I use milk and a little yogurt, that is 30+ grams of protein right there. When that is finished, I wait 1/2 hour and eat Breakfast. Even just one egg with a little cheese on it is 10 grams of protein. Often I make a one egg omelet with some sauteed peppers, onions and mushrooms. Between breakfast and lunch I have a piece of fruit and another 10 oz of water. So far, that is 40 ounces of Fluid and 40 grams of protein, and it's only lunch time. If I have a cup of chili with Beans and cheese for lunch that's 20 grams of protein. Between lunch and dinner, I will have 10 oz of water or sugar free cranberry juice. If I want a snack between those two meals, I might have a handful if nuts or a boiled egg for another 7 grams of protein. For dinner, I will have 2 ounces of meat and later have another 10 oz of water, tea, or Crystal Lite Lemonade. If I feel the need for a bedtime snack, I might have carrot and celery sticks with some yogurt ranch dip, which will give me another 3 grams of protein. Sometimes its a tablespoon of Peanut Butter and 1/3 of a banana. Before I go to bed, I will have another 10 oz of water or a cup of sugar-free hot chocolate. I keep two 10 oz bottles of water by the bed, so that if I wake up to go to the bathroom, I will sip so long as I am up anyway. If I get unbearably hungry, I eat some sugar-free Jello which I keep made up in the fridge. So, within a 24 hour period, this example totals 84 grams of protein and 90 ounces of fluids. Plus the Jello counts as a fluid. 10 oz is my measure because that is how much is in our water bottles and it's also the size of my tea cup. It can be done, but yes, it does take some preparation and effort to juggle it all

    Protein & Water Concerns

@@christinems4280 genpro changed their formulation about 4 months ago and IMHO not like it used to be. I use PipingRock.com for unflavored (for coffee/yogurt)...half the price, low calorie to Protein. I use GNC's no sugar chocolate. Don't try unflavored protein Water. Not recommended by anyone. Stop by GNC and try some of the Isopure flavored drinks. 40g of protein. I like them, but certainly not to everyone's taste. but has advantage of liquids and protein. The green tea flavor has been my favorite.

    Protein & Water Concerns

I supplement everyday. I use some Protein powder in my coffee and with my yogurt (either chocolate or unflavored). With the Water I like the 0 calorie Wyler's lemonade flavor powder. But I'm good with sipping plain water too. It does get easier thanks to good habits being developed over time. Congrats on the loss to date.

    Protein & Water Concerns

Hi Everyone! I'm new here. Joined back in August 2015 after my initial consultation with my surgeon. My surgery date was November 23, 2015. Been lurking awhile, but this is my first post. All in all, I think I'm doing pretty well. I've lost 61lbs. I tolerate most foods well. I haven't experienced much nausea or vomiting (that only happened once thankfully!). I do have some concerns and I'm hoping the lovely people here can offer some tips. I feel like my life revolves around food now. I feel like I'm constantly eating all day to get my required Protein in (my doctor recommends 65-80 grams per day). Water is a whole other beast (64oz). It seems I just don't have the space for the volume of food and water necessary to meet these requirements. I know once we are able to eat solid foods, we should be getting most of our Proteins that way. I do okay maybe half the week and the other half I'm still using shakes to supplement. Should I not be doing that? I almost feel like Protein Shakes will be something that's part of my life forever, but there's a lot of people who disagree with that feeling. While I'm not vegan or vegetarian by any stretch of the imagination, I CANNOT just eat meat and nothing else all day long. I eat veggies and dairy products as well. I don't eat much fruit due to the sugar content. If I have any at all it's blended in a shake or 1/2 a teaspoon is added to my Greek yogurt to take the tang out. To make matters all the more awesome, I was never a big water drinker. If I had 8 cups of water in a month, that was a lot. So to go from that to 8 cups PER DAY is really difficult for me. I get maybe half. My doctor is aware and it's something I'm working on. He'd like me to get it increased, and quickly at that. So. Any tips to ensure I get as much protein packed into a single meal WITHOUT using shakes? Or is it okay to supplement with them as long as I need to? Tips for water consumption would be awesome, too. Thanks for reading! Sorry if I rambled
  13. I talked to my doctor about it also at my follow up appointment. I've decided I'm just going to take it slowly and continue liquids for my own healing; however, I will start having Greek yogurt. I'm down 3lbs so it's slowly coming off! Which I prefer it to come off slowly. Besides that, I'm feeling ok. Still struggling with water intake and I know I'm dehydrated. I get weak and my back hurts. Started back working today, so hopefully I can get into a routine and find balance!

    Do You Log Your Food?

I'm 25 months out. Reached my lowest weight (12 pounds below goal) about 9 months post and have maintained within 4-5 pounds of that low weight for 16 months. Other than keeping a rough tally of Protein and fluids in my head, I have never measured or tracked my food. Despite it being recommended, I knew it was something I would never do. Didn't like it with conventional diets and certainly didn't want to do it for the rest of my life. For me, I had surgery so I wouldn't have to. The closest thing to tracking I do is my weekly pill dispenser so I remember to take my supplements every day. I eat certain things every day....quest bar, Protein shake and Greek yogurt with ground flax seed and apple pectin for the Fiber. Other than that I eat a variety of veggies, fruit, grains and different protein sources every day....pretty much whatever I'm in the mood for. Eat just until satiated, never full, and after two years I can eyeball my portions pretty well.

    Diarrhea

Most certainly normal. I had loose stools until I started incorporating greek yogurt daily. It finally brought things back to a mostly solid form. Either probiotics or yogurt with live active cultures will benefit more than you realize.
  16. It can vary. Now, most of the time, I have vomited up most of my meal prior to consuming something, so it is replacing calories (thankfully, Protein usually stays down, and other than anemia, my malnutrition panels come back great). I used to have one glass of milk, but when I switched from 1% to skim, that stopped working. A few ounces of yogurt will work too, but again, it has to contain some fat. So I switched to saltines. At maximum, it's maybe 10 saltines per day, although that's not the norm. But since my weight loss has stalled, I'm wondering if the nutritional content is a factor - saltines are empty, useless calories. Do you think switching back to low fat milk/yogurt/cheese would be better than saltines? I'm beginning to think so. I've also been just eating more carbs in general, because they don't trigger the phantom hunger. In addition, if I eat out (at a family meal, those are weekly, or just on the go), the phantom hunger is REALLY bad - I can't carry my carafate around since it is liquid (trust me, I've tried). But I hear that Gaviscon, which functions similarly to Carafate, comes in tablets I could keep in my purse. So now that I know what is going on (and psychologically speaking, knowing really is half the battle), I'm hoping I can use tricks to keep the hunger from happening (and it really is severe and miserable). I can go back to less-carby meals. Do you think lowfat dairy is the better option? I just need a little kick in the metabolism and then I can start losing again - and keeping it off.
  17. Forgot to mention, I do a shake similar to his set point smoothie. Here's what I do: 1 veg (kale or spinach has the least flavor and tons of nutrition, but I love arugula for the kick) 1 fruit (preferably frozen; berries are very low cal, but anything works) plain Greek yogurt or Protein powder flavored Omega oil supplement (I use Barlean's) Water optional: herb: I love cilantro and parsley, but I've heard mint and ginger are also good fat: a few nuts, a little avacado, nut butter other: chia seeds, wheatgrass, or other sweetener: stevia, Splenda, Torani sugar-free syrup (if you use berries, you may need a little sweetener, otherwise skip it) ice

    Feb. 1st Surgery Date!

My daughter is 15 months old so she's eating mostly oatmeal, white rice with butter, sausage, yogurt and applesauce. Not much cooking. Plus my husband fends for himself. He's a great cook - most firefighters are lol so he's holding it down on that end. Maybe prep some stuff that is easy to cook. Do you have a crock pot? If you can put a bunch of ingredients in the crock pot you might be able to make great meals without much food handling. There are so many quick crock pot recipes that you can google - I would probably be doing that if I had to cook full meals.

    ~2 Week Liquid Diet~

Good to know the first 3 days are the worst, as today was day 3 for me. Actually days 1 and 2 were fine. But we've had over a foot of snow so I did a lot of shoveling today. Thankfully mine is not 100% liquid. I had my premier shake and my Greek yogurt snsck together, before going out to shovel. I still ended up feeling slightly lightheaded until after I ate dinner. I also used the snow day to make my own chicken broth. Much better than store bought. So much so that I drank a mug while moving the Soup from the pot to Containers, and ended up not eating the vegetables I was allowed at dinner. Jess, mom to Ysabel, 6 and Maggie, 3

    Is it worth it?

What about snacking. For those who are post op RNY, do you find the you do snack or not at all? Also, when I say snack, I am referring to healthy choices such as raw almonds, apples with peanut butter, low fat yogurt? Etc....

    Awful smelling stool and gas

LOL I know the feeling! I was legendary BEFORE my DS... now I can clear the entire house in 10 seconds flat sometimes. Mostly it's when I've eaten carbs so I am under 30 carbs a day and that's really helped. I also added Probiotics and I eat at least a cup of yogurt a day and that's made it a lot more bearable too. Devrom helps some people too... I've not tried it yet, but I'm planning to try some because I have a cruise scheduled and I'm sharing a cabin with someone I don't really know. I suppose it would be nice to NOT gas them out Also, probiotics have helped me out somewhat. Poo pourri in the toilet bowl helps, as does an air freshener spray called m9. Just remember, poop stinks and the people complaining are probably perfectly capable of opening a window or spraying some air freshener. It's not like you are doing it on purpose.
  23. I continue to be amazed at the variance in pre-op diets...mine is strictly liquids, no meat, salads, yogurt, or SF fudge pops Only 48 hours to go, however...yikes!

    **Question for Women**

You have my sympathies. My period began two hours after surgery, and the cramps were exacerbated by it. Fortunately, though, other than severe cramps my recovery wasn't that intense. My first regular period post-surgery was much like what the OP described. I felt very nauseous, had debilitating fatigue, and my back throbbed. It was far more intense than normal. It coincided with the first week I could eat soft foods after nearly a month of liquids, and I think that was a factor. I also started having stomach issues, and ahem, had to rush to the bathroom far too often. It made me feel a bit like a hermit for a while because I was reluctant to be out of the house for any longer than necessary. I have PCOS, and I do think hormonal changes contributed to the problems. I would take very long baths because the heat helped to soothe my stomach and my back. I actually got a little easel that I put my iPad on and set it up on the counter so I could watch Netflix while in the tub. I normally wouldn't waste Water, but it truly was so helpful. When I was out of the tub, heating pads were godsends. During that time simply staying hydrated was my main concern. I never drink Gatorade when well, but it was beneficial then because I needed fluids and calories and many other drinks were causing my stomach to be more upset. I stopped using Protein powders then because I read that whey protein can contribute to stomach issues in some people, and instead would make smoothies with Fage yogurt or plain kefir, and berries. Peppermint tea helped me, too. Eventually I was able to begin eating more without there being any stomach issues. I'm five months out now, and my other periods have not been dramatic. They've also been very regular. I track them with an app, and they've come right on time. The only problem I've experienced with them was an unusual acne breakout one month. I think that was due in part to my period but also because I'd added a B-12 supplement. I've since read articles about how excess B-12 can cause adult acne. Once I stopped taking it my skin cleared up and has not broken out again since. Hopefully you'll start to feel better soon, Kelly, and your future periods won't be as brutal.

    Post-Workout Recovery

Thanks for the great response, Alex! I have been good about getting my protein directly before and after. I did not know about the carbs. I am still struggling with the fact good carbs are ok. I probably get less than 150g of carbs a day. I eat a 20g Protein Bar before a workout and then a 20oz. Bottle of Isopure with 40g protein, but zero carb. Then maybe some yogurt and granola or eggs and cheese about an hour later. I will try adding the bread and peanut butter. That is a good idea. That will also help with Fiber too. My loss has slowed down dramatically but my body is still changing size and structure. I appreciate the kind words of encouragement.
